Andersen Windows & Doors Replacement of a broken window pane.

I am annoyed at the proliferation of Anderson Window advertisements on TV and the Internet that mislead the general public.

Case in point - My entire home is equipped with Anderson windows. Not too long ago, the glass of an Anderson window in our dining room simply cracked; for no apparent reason. Upon inquiry to Anderson Windows, I was a given a price of around $800 to replace a window glass of about 12" by 20". As exorbitant as such a cost seemed, I was further told that because the window was attached to a bay window, I would have to replace the entire unit (bay window and all) because the damaged window pane is part of the entire ensemble. I found this nauseating, as the cost of the whole ensemble could run into the thousands of dollars.

Apart from the overwhelming number of Anderson window advertisements to which one is subjected via TV and the Internet, one has to contend with the endless physical mailings that promote the company's activities. It is too much! It is about time that a pertinent regulatory organization investigate the activities of Anderson Windows, a company that seems a far cry from what it claims to be.

Andersen Windows & Doors Anderson casement windows

It's a July morning- 85° outside with 85% humidity and about 71° with air conditioning in my house. I woke up to exterior condensation on all three glass panels again. This happens in winter and summer. We put Anderson casements in our entire house (replaced some original to the house and added new ones) in 2010.

This only happens to some of them and I'm wondering if we got bad glass?

Andersen Windows & Doors Door Quality and then the inability to order parts.

My EMCO 400 Series Self-Storing Storm Door is a piece of trash. Particle board inner core that is not only heavy the short screws holding the door to the hinge is Poor design. Door came apart exposing the particle board core and they refused to discuss warranty.

Then as it continues to fail and happens to break, the part needed is not sold Separately. Although the Agent can't say separately of what?

Don't buy one of these. The quality of the construction is POOR and they don't/won't sell the parts needed to repair.

Desired outcome: Door replacement as Home Depot suggested.

Andersen Windows & Doors Waiting on Window

We have been waiting on a new window install since Oct 2021. Ordered all new windows in Feb 2021. The front window was ordered wrong by Home Depot. They ordered a new window in Oct 2021. Home depot states waiting on a trim piece to install new window. I have been waiting so long and little to no help at Home Depot. I just want a answer. Home Depot states no response from Andersen Windows

Andersen Windows & Doors Rotting of Anderson windows

We built our brick home in 1996. My husband was a finish carpenter out of the union. He bought only the best because it always pays off. Right, wrong not with Anderson windows.

We have the casement windows. 8 double, two with 4 units, one with 3 a a single. It was a lot of money then and now to replace these units with the new "better" windows since they realize their mistakes is only $65,000. That was given to us last week. We called numerous times when we were seeing damage. Never a rep then when they did come they would get an answer. 15 years of back and forth while the warranty ran out. In my opinion that is why they have started the Anderson Restoration company. Even though their window is for superior now what else can they possibly say. We purchased screens for all windows, wood dividers (tabs broke), and they were the tinted glass more money. Boy were we stupid. I am joining all of those with law suits and complaints. I think at 65,000 for replacement they should pay for ignoring the problem when it could have been warranted. Good luck to all.

Desired outcome: Reimbursement of some kind

Andersen Windows & Doors Anderson Windows mold/mildew no warranty

Built home in 2008 and purchased high quality Anderson Windows. After moving in, we experienced condensation on many of the windows. After contacting the builder and Anderson rep., they assured me that it was the house drying out and it will stop. After two winters of wiping windows, we tried to contact or builder but was told he retired. We contacted the supplier of the windows and was told they would get back to us. After many calls and no response, we began to be disappointed in Anderson Windows. We began to live with the mold and mildew growing on the windows. Every year, I tried to contact a rep. but no response. Started reading how mold is dangerous, contacted Anderson Corporate. Went through video conferencing and after two hours was told “Sorry”, no warranty. Not all of my windows have mold on them, some are in perfect condition. Corporate could not explain why but placed blame on poor house keeping. Poor service, poor customer service and good luck with that manufacturer warranty.

Desired outcome: Replace molded windows

Update [protected]: a rep from Anderson come to the house and took many pictures. In addition, he took the humidity level in every room. Received a call from Anderson, the cause of the molding windows is high humidity in the house. For some reason our house has an average of 59%. This is with the addition of two dehumidifiers downstairs. I just don’t understand how some windows are like brand new but others are molding. Anderson stated it was my problem and sent me a document on humidity and windows. I guess we’ll be replacing on our windows.

I wanted windows replaced, and upon meeting with sales person I was introduced to doors. I had a storm door that had self storing screen. I asked for the same storm door. I was promised that I would received the same storm door. I was told it would take at least 6 months to have the door installed and the windows will be installed before the door. Well, to my surprised the entrance door and storm door was installed before the windows. The storm door that was installed was the one they wanted me to have not what you ordered. The storm door that was installed is outdated. All I want is the self storage screen. I have having a hard time with getting replacement. The door is not been used because the screen is off. The sales manager and installment manager came and saw the screen off and did nothing about it. I was told to remove the glass and store it and that was what a self storage door was. The glass almost fell on my 9 year old child when I asked her to open the glass and I was told by the installment manager, I should not have my child touch the glass. "You would not tell your child to drive your car," I was astonished. The customer service is beyond poor. The sales manager is rude and condescending. I believed these company is a operational scam. They are literally scammers.

The door may need to be adjusted to make a better seal. However, adjustments, inspections or water tests are not covered by the Andersen warranty.

If you need a new door gasket then I can get that for you but replacement labor is not covered by AW.

You may want to hire the local AW service provider to make adjustments or an inspection. If there are any warranty parts needed then he can get them or if adjustments need to be made then he may be able to do that as well.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am concerned the seal at the

top of the door is not seated correctly. I used the same hose and

rinsed the 12 yo. Anderson door and no water entered.

Importantly I kept the hose moving at all times and did not put

a jet on a small location for any duration.

I am concerned about what would occur in hurricane when the

rain is blowing sideways at 75 mph and there is high pressure

outside the window and low pressure inside.

Since the door is under warranty, I thought could have someone

check the top seal or do a water test to see if it meets specifications.

Thanks

Bill :)y

If the water came over the top of the door panel then that is not uncommon. It can happen naturally if wind drives the water up the panel and over or the hose could of squirted it over the panel. Since the door slides there is very little seal at the top or bottom of the door that is why there is a sill tank on the room side to allow water to drain out ( all sliders not just AW )

If water came between the glass and the wood stop then that could be an issue but I didn't see that in the video

I did not get the video.

Do you have a couple of pictures?

There may not be a problem. Water can be on the inside of the door, panel, sill, etc. It would depend on where it is

Hi Jeff, Tom

The Anderson patio door that was installed (approx. June 2021)

leaks. Yesterday I used a hose to wash off the door and noticed

there was water on the inside glass of the slider door. I have a video

demonstrating this but it is too large to email with AOL. I did

have success sending it from my gmail account. Looking forward

to both of you working together to solve this problem.

Dr Smiley

I too have leaking Andersen sliders on the coast of NC. I believe that senior execs of Andersen have made repeated false statements for years, apparently trying to duck the warranty.

I finally proved to them that their sills leak in one video, and in another video I proved that their secretely cracked vinyl jambs can leak like a sieve, rotting your floor.

Warranty door replacement is possible even after 10 years if your complaint has been documented. You have to be really persistent though.

Here's one of the videos. https://youtu.be/24Dz6GAg1dc Try a search on youtube for the other, it's even better.

You can email me at etbrown44 at the email service by google.

Andersen Windows & Doors Screen door 2500 series

I purchased my screen door from Home Depot. I had a contractor install it. One week after the hinge snapped and came off. I contacted customer service to send me the part and they told me that it wasn't part of the warranty. It's been hung for one week. I live in a condominium

and in a corner where there is no intense excessive winds - I live in southern Florida. Now I have paid over 450$ for a door that is hung and broken. I will try Home Depot for some support as Andersen was/ is no help. I warn you all please do not buy their products which are made poorly and to top it off you wait for hours on hold for Customer service which are not helpful at all .

Andersen Windows & Doors Big door architectural series

Review of Andersen Windows and Doors' "Big Door Architectural Collection" (https://www.andersenwindows.com/windows-and-doors/doors/big-doors).
We bought two Andersen "Big Doors" at a price of $24, 000 in June 2021. The doors finally arrived at the end of November. They are now installed and span most of the wall of our living room. They come with very narrow stiles, and we ordered ours with brushed-nickel hardware and maple wood finish. If you want a modern, minimalist look it's hard beat these doors!
Alas, they are not good doors. The most serious issue is that they leak. When it rains the water runs across the sill and underneath the doors to an inside channel, where we use a sponge to keep the water from reaching our new hardwood floors. The doors are actually designed this way. They sit on rollers that are raised from the floor, and water can flow to the inside. Andersen uses an aluminum threshold, called a "nose", to essentially cover up the water. The water supposedly runs off through weep holes, although on ours it stays for days at a time.
What do you do if water rises above the edge of the inside channel? Andersen's solution is a threshold with a 1.5" high edge or "lip" that literally functions as a dam. The lip of the nose protrudes about an inch above the bottom of the doors, so if water ever reached that level, the wood frame would get soaked and ruined. The rail is also a serious trip hazard because it sits right across the opening where you walk.
Needless to say, if water can run to the inside, the door is also not airtight. We live in Boston, and we can feel the draft of cold air coming through the bottom of the doors whenever there's a wind is against the doors. That's not quite as upsetting as the water, but it is also not exactly what you expect from a door at this price point.
Build quality is also surprisingly poor. Our doors came with a poly finish (which we paid extra for), but after two months it is already beginning to peel around the glass (we think from condensation water). We have asked Andersen to fix it under their "best in business" warranty (supposedly including 20 years on the finish), but our request has been ignored despite repeated tries.
This gets to the most frustrating part of the Andersen experience: it is almost impossible to communicate directly with Andersen. From deciding specs to handling installation issues, you can only deal with Andersen indirectly through the dealer, which in our case is National Lumber. Our point person in NL was nice enough, but he had no experience with these doors (very few do as we have discovered), and the technical support we needed from Andersen was never there. A local Andersen sales rep shared an installation video (it's actually a recorded webinar), but you can't talk to any Andersen person with technical knowledge. Attempts to contact them by us or by our contractor were resolutely ignored.
Long after the doors were installed a rep from Andersen showed up, but he essentially just confirmed that the doors are indeed leaky ("I didn't design them"), and he refused to answer any direct questions, including the one about fixing the peeling finish under warranty.
Andersen is marketing their Big Door Architectural Series as a high-end product, with prices to boot, but their service is decidedly bottom-end. The design of the doors, while aesthetically pleasing, is problematic. But the lack of support is infuriating. Perhaps Andersen's makes decent budget doors and windows that big-box outlets like Home Depot and Lowes can readily service; but Andersen is entirely unprepared to operate in the upscale market. We made a bad choice.

[Taglines: Andersen Windows and Doors complaint; Multiglide; Leaking and drafty doors; lack of Andersen service; tripping hazard; water problem; ignoring customer pleas for help; no service; will not honor warranty].

Andersen Windows & Doors Andersen Windows 400 series twin casement

In July of 2010 we hired a certified Andersen contractor to replace 11 older Andersen windows and doors with new ones. 1 awning casement, 4 twin casements, 2 panel gliders, 2 double hung, a picture window, an outswing French door and a sliding doorwall. ($21, 644) Andersen warranties the glass for 20 years, but the rest of the window structure is only warrantied for 10 years. This October we discovered that all 3 twin casement windows on the back of the house have a split in the outside cladding in the EXACT same location on each window. Additionally our custom picture window has had a separation in the inside of the wood frame, it's slid over almost a inch in the last 10 years time. In 2011 the French door had one panel of glass spontaneously shatter in a bizarre way (Andersen replaced that glass, no charge).
Although we made the discovery of the casement windows outside of the warranty time, this failure may have happened before then, since the windows are well above eye level. We feel that there is a clear manufacturing flaw going on because of the way the three windows have split in the same spot. Because they can hide behind their warranty date, Andersen has no reason to step up and replace these windows, so this is a 'buyer beware' posting. Pricey windows from a reputable company are still no guarantee of quality. They may look beautiful for a time, but they aren't really any better than other companies.

Andersen Windows & Doors Poor customer support

I purchased an Andersen 400 Series Patio Door and the locking mechanism did not work properly since day 1. I called customer service today and they told me the following:

1) I will need to review videos that they provided to debug the problem and the associated parts that need to be replaced.

2) I will then have to call back, provide my diagnostics, and then they will send me replacement parts for free but I will need to pay someone to install the parts.

My problem is two-fold: 1) I am not a door mechanic nor do I want to be responsible for the diagnosis. 2) They sold me a lemon and now I have to pay for someone to fix it?

Spent $4k on the door because I thought Andersen was a name you could count on. Evidently I was wrong. Never again!

Desired outcome: Send someone to my house and fix the door!!!!

My latch on the storm door has no striker plate, and Anderson people told me there is no need for one. The door is so sloppy that this morning after a snow fall the inside handle had snow on it. I am going to have to purchase a new door, but you can bet your next pay check, it won't be an Anderson. They told me when I purchased it, it was top of the line.

Andersen Windows & Doors Back door

The door was installed incorrectly from day one. It was shown to be the completely wrong door once someone other than installation looked at it. Andersen had been here over 10 times. Each time bringing an incorrect part or provided a fix that only lasted a matter of hours. The handle fell off the door within 48 hours of it being installed. The seal has been compromised since installation. It is not water tight or animal tight for that matter. We have had TWO lizards get in under the door while the door has been fully locked! Both deadbolt and 3point locked. They have replaced the door itself when the entire door and frame were supposed to be taken out and redone. Mind you, we have only had this door since October. I also have it in writing that water damage caused by their product would be corrected and they will no longer respond to me. Nothing has been done to correct the water damage. We were also made to start paying prior to the installation of the door even though we were told the first payment wouldn't be due until after installation. I have requested a refund and was told that would happen once they got the door back. I can't get a door installed until September but apparently I have to keep paying on this door anyways.

Desired outcome: Refund

Andersen Windows & Doors Service

I was referred to one of your representatives Michael Yannotti [protected]) to get an estimate on replacing my bay window. Mr Yannotti said it would be about $10K to $20K to replace - as it's a big job where he has to replace framing & molding. I said ok, I would like an estimate so I know how to move forward. He said would I be financing as most of his customers finance as it doesn't matter the area where you live. I listened. He proceeded to ask if I had $10K-$15K to replace the window. I explained again, I would like an estimate to replace the existing window. Are you asking me for $10K-15K before you come out to look at my window? He said ahhh yeah, these windows are expensive. He said I can go with a less expensive company but they won't give me a 10 yr warranty. I said if you are asking for money before looking at the job, no thank you! He was direct but his questioning about money was rude! Assuming I didn't have money to replace my window. I won't be making any purchase with your company because of him! He gives your company a BAD name.

Desired outcome: Definitely a Reprimand, worse case—>fired!

Andersen Windows & Doors 90748 andersen 3000 series ventilating storm d/36x80

We purchased this storm door and had it installed in May of 2019. The middle bar in the door (where the two glass panels meet) is all bent and looks awful. Plus, there is a piece of rubber on the bottom of the door that has come loose and is hanging there. We are very disappointed in the quality of this storm door, since it is just my husband and i that use it. I wasn't sure what your policy was for fixing this issue. Please let me know, so i can continue from here. Thank you.

Andersen Windows & Doors Storm door

After waiting 6 weeks, I finally received my Andersen door only to have the two closures to stop working after a week. Waited another 3 weeks for replacements and now wait for service to replace. I was informed the warranty on these doors is almost nonexistent because they are garbage. Sure wish I'd spent $500 on competitor's door.

Desired outcome: Will know after new closers have been in place, but I sure wish they’d take this garbage back and refund my money.
