I’ve been an American Express customer since 2014 and never have been late with any payments and out of the blue they lowered my available credit limit which will mess my credit score as I’m trying to buy a home.. I’m just going to pay them off and be done with them
When I emailed them they wanted me to allow them access to my bank account in order to reinstate my credit limit?! Umm no! That’s not necessary again my account is current.. why do they need access to my bank account?! They didn’t need access to it when I got approved back in 2014 something isn’t right!
Update 8/26/26 so I went and paid off American Express on 8/4/26 and closed my account..
today I got an email alert saying I owe them $6.34 for interest charges the billing cycle ended on the 19th and I paid them off in full August 4 so how do I owe them interest when I haven’t used the card as I closed my account and they were paid off in full before the billing cycle ended.. it’s only $6.00 but it’s the principle of being charged interest for an account that was closed I’m dumb founded.
Just happened to me and I’ve been with them for 31 years. This will probably screw up my consolidation loan opportunity. However, first thing I will do with consolidation loan is pay off AmEx and close out my card after 31 years with them. It’s ironic that the last paragraph on the “email” from them begins with the line,”we’re here for you.” Talk about joke!
I just had the same thing happen to me. I have two cards with American Express and both cards were lowered. I have never been late on payments with them or any other credit card. This is bad business. Both of my American Express cards are paid off and now I just want to close them.
