At the counter I provided a copy of the Rental Voucher from Economy Booking, copy of the Full Coverage purchased from Economy Booking, copy of my personal car insurance detailing coverage/amounts for car rentals and a copy of rental car coverage from Royal Bank WestJet Elite Master Card.
The Customer Service Agent (Mike) reviewed the documents and said I was required to take out SLI (Civil Responsibility Complement) mandatory Insurance (with no explanation of what SLI is and what it covers) which would be $39.99 USD per day for 21 days $839.79 USD ($1,175.39 CAD).
I was shocked, thinking I had all insurance requirements covered with all the information I provided. I asked to speak to a manager, told by Mike, no Management there, asked if they could call Economy Booking, as I didn’t see any documentation during the purchasing of this service on Oct 11, 2025, that there would be a monitory insurance requiring payment at time of rental pick up of $1,175.39 CAD (more than the car rental) Mike said they don’t make calls.
After a discussion, I told Mike to charge my credit card for the mandatory insurance fee and I would call Economy Booking and my Bank later.
The other Customer Service Agent spoke up and said if I call my bank that would be fraud, shook my head, not sure what that was about, Mike said to me I cancelled your rental; you’ll have to go back to the airport.
