Business Response Dear ***, We certainly understand that it can be both concerning and alarming to find that you had an ongoing subscription with WorthPoint, and we apologize for the confusion. After investigating the account information, our records show that on 9/16/20, the account under the email address ***@xxxxl.com initiated the "Value It" subscription for $23.99 monthly. A subscription with WorthPoint provides monthly access to the price guide for as much or as little the user would like to search. Customers are free to use, or not use, their access as they wish until they cancel their subscription. Each subscriber receives a "Welcome to WorthPoint'' email that outlines the guidelines for the free trial, cancellation options, subscription information, as well as our contact information. The free trial is outlined as seven lookups or seven days, whichever comes first. If the subscription is not cancelled, the monthly subscription will begin. Your welcome email was sent on 9/16/20. Per our records, the subscription trial was completed 7 days after it was initiated on 9/23/20. We assume customers would like to continue their paid subscription if they do not cancel. Since the trial was not cancelled, a subscription charge started on 09/23/20, and continued to bill on the 23rd of each month until its cancellation on 8/15/21. Every cancellation is also followed with a confirmation email, which was sent on 8/15/21. We understand that it can be an inconvenience and we are always here to help by phone, email, or "Contact Us'' via the website. We have provided a complimentary 1-month refund to the account on file. We investigated your account and found that you created a subscription with the email address ***@xxxxl.com, on 8/17/21 for the Research It plan. It was cancelled on 8/17/21, and the All Access subscription was created on the same day, 8/17/21. The All Access subscription comes with a free trial, which is 7 lookups or 7 days, whichever comes first. The user must cancel before the free trial is complete to avoid charges. The free trial was completed on 8/24/21, and attempts at charging the card on file were made until 9/17/21. We see that the account was cancelled on 9/16/21, however the attempts at drafting continue until the charge is successful. Per our records, you created an account with the email address ***@xxxxxd.com on on 01/20/2021, at 7:57am PST. Our Terms and Conditions highlight that the free trial is 7 lookups or 7 days, whichever comes first. If your searches go beyond the 7 lookups, you *** be charged. We see that you went beyond the 7 lookups. Once you reach an 8th lookup, the system prompts you to affirm if you would like to continue and activate your subscription. We see that it was activated on 1/20/21, and you continued to utilize and lookup items. Following the searches on 1/20/21, you sent a request for a refund at 8:20 PST. It seems that you were under the impression that you would receive a 30 day trial. We understand that confusion can happen, and our team provided a one time refund. Since the free trial was complete, we cancelled your subscription. A cancellation request via your PayPal account was also sent to our teams on 1/22/21. We apologize for any confusion that you may have experienced and wanted to be sure that you know the free trial is 7 lookups or 7 days, and not 30 days. I was using your site to look up the price of some vintage case knives I have. I looked up 5 of them before you charged me. I literally have only sold 5 of them on EBay now because that's all I was able to look up and couldn't let myself sell the others because I couldn't find out an accurate price. Also I was not prompted to continue and "activate my subscription" I was just randomly charged. After I posted my 5th knife on EBay or as I was creating the post I got a notification from PayPal about a charge. Clearly something is wrong on your end. I realize technology isn't perfect and things mess up, but big companies like this have to be held accountable for what they do to their customers. The "Sell Similar Item on Ebay" feature is only available with a paid subscription, so when you selected it, the system activated your subscription. We apologize for any misunderstanding this caused. We immediately provided a refund from your initial request on 1/20/21. The subscription was cancelled because the maximum amount of lookups for the free trial is 7, and the number of lookups exceeded that amount. The free trial is not only 7 days, it is 7 lookups or 7 days, whichever comes first. If you utilize more than 7 lookups within one day, the trial is complete, and the free trial cannot be extended. Therefore the subscription was cancelled. Something is clearly wrong with your system and you need to fix it. But I'm sure you won't.

The Welcome emails share that customers are responsible for canceling their account in order to avoid subscription charges. Per our records, we see that your introductory email was sent on 10/03/2016 at 09:59 PM EST. We see that you conducted 2 searches on 10/04/2016, and never cancelled. Since the trial was never cancelled, a subscription started on 10/11/2016, and continued to bill on the 11th of each month until we cancelled the subscription 06/25/2021. Worthpoint succinctly pointed out that theirs is a "Negative response advertising " which is devious and should not be permitted. They did not explain why I was charged $39.99 per month while every other complainant mentioned $19.99 per month. They clearly stated I only used Worthpoint ONE time in 3 1/2 years and offered no compensation whatsoever. The other complainants' charges that were mentioned are associated with the Value It subscription. WorthPoint provides three levels of subscription, which is Value It, Research It, and All Access. The parameters of a customer's billing, as well as the free trial, and subscriptions, are outlined in the introductory "Welcome" email that is sent to all users. The "Welcome" email also provides details of cancellation options, and the breakdown of the monthly or annual recurring charge for the subscription that was chosen by the customer. If you decide WorthPoint is not for you, cancel before your 7 lookups within 7days free trial ends and you will not be charged. You may also cancel any time after your 7 lookups within 7 days free trial, any fees charged after the free trial period expires are considered fees for services rendered. You have admitted that the language of your initial "contract" was duplicitous and I am furious that I was inveigled. Your "one time courtesy refund" is an insult, and I am not going to drop this until at least 50% of what I have been charged is refunded. We share that in order to prevent charges, users must cancel before the free trial ends. All subscriptions can be cancelled via the WorthPoint account, emailing a request to ***@WorthPoint.com, or by calling XXX-XXX-XXXX. WorthPoint users also receive a "Welcome to WorthPoint" email that outlines the parameters of a customer's billing, subscription, as well as the free trial. I received an email from Worthpoint when my membership was cancelled. I never received any emails saying my card was being charged or any receipts for charges. You can see when I signed up and when I received emails. Can you see that I didn't use more than 7 lookups and that I also didn't use the service beyond the 7 day trial period? I didn't use this service beyond the trial period and I want a refund for the months I was charged. I'm unhappy with the lack of receipts from this company. There's a lack of transparency. Also, I don't understand why there are no employees in the chain of command who can give a refund beyond a single charge. I thought I had cancelled the trial and the company can see that I didn't use more than 7 lookups and I didn't use it beyond the 7 days. I was charged $39.99 for February, March, April, May, June, July and August. I was only given a refund for August and told to contact my credit card company. This situation has caused me aggravation and wasted my time. I want all my money back. The BBB has an alert on Worthpoint bc of this shady practice regarding the "free" trials. If so many people are having the same issue, it's the company's doing and not all these different consumers. Their response doesn't seem tailored to my specific complaint. They haven't addressed the pattern of charging customers who sign up for a free trial. They have shady business practices.
