Turkish Airlinesdamaged luggage

One of my luggage's got damaged during our flight to Montreal through Istanbul on Sep 6. I noticed it when I was unpacking at home. I contacted Turkish Airlines through their website and sent them pictures of the broken bag and my flight documents. They replied and asked how much is the price for the damaged bag. After sending the cost they replied that I must have reported in the airport so they will not pay for the damage. However their website clearly states that the damages should be reported in the airport or within 7 days of flight. They are not taking the responsibility.

    in order to get free advise without the request of the passport?
