I bought a car in July 2023 and paid off the loan in January 2024. I contacted finance to cancel gap and get a refund. He sent me the cancellation form and said I needed a payoff letter from the finance company. On January 30th I sent him both the filled out cancellation form and the payoff letter. When I didn't receive the refund by March 11th I called and asked what happened to it. The person I talked to looked it up and said the check was sent to the finance company. Why? He didn't know why, but my guess is that the person that processed it did not pay attention. It is now March 22nd and still do not have the refund check ($850). The finance company said they sent it on March 4th, so now it is lost in the mail and now they put a stop payment on the check and are sending a new one. This could have all been avoided if the person in accounting had done their job correctly. I would think some retraining on this procedure is needed at Tempe Honda.
