bad experience from start to finish

Bad experience from start to finish!!! And I am not finished yet. I recently purchased a jacket from newport news. The websites's sizing information window wasn't working so I thought i'd be safe going up a size. When the jacket arrived it was two sizes smaller than it should have been so their specs are completely off from industry standards. There was no return label included and I was told they were changing their warehouse location and didn't have new printed labels. However, another customer service rep admitted they were in negotiations with ups on their contract with them. Different reps... Different stories. I went to ups and found out that the rates for an individual were so expensive that it would cost me 50% of what the jacket cost me to ship it back to them without their corporate rate. When I asked to speak to a manager (Which I found out there is only one!!!) I was told they would take my name and number and call me back... That was 4 days ago. I called several other times since then to no avail. Honestly this is a company that does not care about their customers. I do not trust them and plan to open a dispute with my bankcard company not to pay the bill I think they have really gone down the tubes... Never again... Beware.

dispute of charges!

I had the same experiences as everyone else, having to make numerous phone calls, being told that my account would be credited in two cycles, someone would contact me within 72 hours, endless waiting on phone and scripted information, given useless websites and numbers to file a claim.
Finally, In September I decided to contact my bank Chase to file a dispute and within a few hours they credited my bank account for both charges. I thought that was the end until in November I received a bill for the $300+ from Spiegel and NN stating that my account was 30 days past due!! I called the number indicated on the bill and it was non working so I called C.S for a new number, "Joy" stated that I'm being billed for Spiegel because they "did" credit my account on May 23, 2011 (even though I didn't purchase from them until June 7, 2011)?? she couldn't find the NN bill because their system hasn't updated the info yet!
I called my bank to see if this was true and they couldnt find a credit from either one. I called Spiegel AGAIN! and "Ciera" said Im being billed because Chase is billing them for not paying me! and that Spiegel/NN has been taken over by a new company and that the old company is protected due to bankruptcy from paying their debts including me.
I called Chase back and the banker couldnt believe how they were treating me, he asked if they have my social and I said I dont think they should. He said I should forward them my emaIl of my dispute that Chase sent me. I dont know what else to do!?! This is unfair and I do not feel I should have to pay this when they owed me!!

credit card charges not approved

I too was charged 14.95 on my credit card bill for an insider pass. I never even recieved this companies catalogue and was told I was getting travel discounts etc. This is complete fraud and when I contaced thier company via the phone and email they were rude and no response via email. There needs to be a large law suit against this company for complete credit card fraudulent charges. They cancelled my last charge but I want to be reimbursed for the previous charges as well. Check your credit card statements carefully!!!

I ordered over a hundred dolloars worth of merchandise and when I received the order I was not really pleased with any of the items. I sent the whole order back and followed all the instructions for returning items. My order date was 3/13/11. I sent everything back in a timely fashion as idicated to do so. It is July and I have still not received my credit. I called Newport with a runaround and they said they received my merchandise back but they were unable to credit my account. My purchase went on my Newport Credit card which now the bank that handles that credit card is calling me for payment and keeps adding finance charges to my credit account. I told them I don't think I should pay for merchandise I do not have. They said that they are not responsible for Newport's actions. I fought every month so far with the bank telling them that this has to be wrong for them to do. I finally got the real deal and that is Newport is in Bankruptcy and they are not honoring any credits or returns. I then asked the bank why they are still accepting credit card applications for Newport credit card. They did not answer me really. So if you open a Newport News credit card with this bank and you return your merchandise you will not get credit for it and the bank will charge you late fees and interest charges for merchandise you don't own. I think this needs to be taken to the Dept. of Consumer Affairs. On Newports website the "check your order status", Manage your account or contact costumer service hangs up and times out but if you want to purchase items or open a credit card account it opens right up. This is very wrong. I have since recieved a form to file with the United States Bankruptcy Court. The name Newport is filing Bankruptcy under is Signature Styles, LLC et al.

no refund

ordered a dress returned..never got refund..as was told...was told company in bankrupsy..but still charging me for the returned merchandise...so essentially have my merchandise and my money...have been leaving numerous messages but never getting a phone call back..i got to spk to cutomer service and was told 2 weeks ago a supervisor will contact me...i said i will be willing to make an exchange for another item and was told no...but i said u have my money..they said we have so many complaints and not enough people to handle them so buyer beware...they keep your money and bill u at the same time...

    I was also scammed by Spiegel! I returned a jacket in March 2011 and was told a credit was issued back to my credit card on 6-2-11. I waited for my credit card statement to arrive and still no credit even after they lied and told me the credit was issued. I called Spiegel customer service and they were very oh well, you will not be getting a refund and you have to file a claim because we filed for chaper 11. So, they have my merchandise and my money. They are stealing from me! How can they get away with keeping the merchandise and my money!!! This is over the top. I am so mad and every time I call this Epiq number that they gave me to file a claim the number is busy. I can not even get through to file a claim. I returned the jacket because the quality was poor and it was way over priced. Spiegel merchandise sucks!! No wonder the are going out of business. I did notice that they are still running their website and it looks like business as usual but do not order from them! They will keep your money if you have a return. They even have a section on their website about how easy it is to make a return with them. Easy for them, they get to keep their lousy merchandise and the consumers money. Buyer beware.

returns

Back in January 2011, I ordered about $130 worth of items from Newport News and I didn't like any of them, so I returned them the same week using the enclosed return label.
I had ordered them on my Newport News credit card.
Well, months go by, and still no credit shows up for the return. So each month I make the minimum payment because I don't want to end up with a big credit on my account when they FINALLY process the return.
I fianlly called in May to ask on the status of my credit and the customer service agent said "yea, I see it's taking a long time to process this return - and I see you've been paying interest on these items, so I'll credit your account for the interest as well"
I received my June credit card statement and they STILL haven't processed the return (although I do have a $9 credit for the interest I paid). I called today, and they tell me "Signature Styles filed for bankruptcy, so we are unable to process credits at this time". So basically, they told me even though I returned the items, I still have to pay for them, and I'll get information in the mail to add my name to the court documents for a refund!
I spoke to 4 people there (including a manager), and they were all unwilling to help me.

    I had ordered a pair of boots in October 2008, RECIEVED THEM 4 WEEKS LATER (sorry Newport News you were way too late, now I would not onsider having the boots.) ---- I found another pair elswhere that I had ordered after I oredered them and didn't need to get express shipping to get them way sooner than the slow Newport News' order came in. ---- So I returned them through UPS. I kept checking the tracking to see when they recieved my return. They recieved it on Novembr 20, 2008. I had wrote CS to see when I would be credited. They tell me 6 weeks. I asked why and could not get an answer. I was just told it takes 6 weeks with no explanation of why. Not very upfront honest or professional in my book. aI have had it with their not sending me email confirmations too. And when I have tried to log in to my account, at times, I couldn't even log in. They have changed since 2006. They must have been sold to some real loosers or something. My advice is don't order anything from Newport-News unless you know you will end up finding satisfaction with it and keep it, cause it's hard to get anything returned. And you'll have to call the 1-800 # to get a verbal order confiration, because they have a lie on the website somewhere that says you will get one email.

    I have been watiting for credit on a return since February. Made multiple calls to them. Today they tell me when I called that they are under BANKRUPTCY Protection. So although they said they will issue refunds in a couple of months after re-organizing ... I am not holding my breath! I wish I would have kept the clothes and at least used them for rags at least I would have something for my money and not wasted so much time!

    This Company is nothing but a shady place. To allow customers to continue purchasing products is pathetic and unethical. We have been waiting on a refund since April. But...any customers that return items after June 7th are now under a different return policy and will have no issues...or that is what they are saying..but I wouldn't believe them for one second.

    I have had a returned merchandise issue with Newport News for almost a year now. The bottom line is that they continue to charge interest and late charges on items I've returned, and bill me for same. They've also reported me to the credit bureaus as being late, even though I owe them nothing. I've contacted EVERYBODY -- Michael Pettipas, Newport News catalog president, Kimberly Bostic, Consumer Relations Specialist at World Financial Network National Bank. I've filed an internet fraud complaint, a postal fraud complaint, and a complaint with the FTC. On June 28, I filed a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. They promised to get back to me within 48 hours with an assigned case number. That hasn't happened, and it's been almost 96 hours. I'm now at the point where I'm waiting to see if WFNNB will haul me into small claims court. It will cost them more to file against me than they say I owe them. They don't have a leg to stand on, as I have a file 1 1/2 inches thick with all the supporting information. I have a complaint form to send to the Nebraska State Attorney's office, but I'm not willing to take the time to complete it if nobody is going to do anything.

refund

I finally scraped up enough money to buy a suit that I could wear because of sickness nd weight gasin, I order it from Newport news, first of April 2011. it was put on backorder twice, so I found another from ebay, no postage, and needed a suit as I have had a hip replacement and needed water theorpy and had no suit. I tryed to cancel suot from Newport News but then they sent out suit, I called and talked to a customer service Rep, Cale and she said just return and I would receive full refund infact she put returr postage in my account while I was speaking with her. I sent the suit right back, and it was received and signed for By Shafner on newportnews dock on the 12 of May, 2011, That same day I went for a mamogram, and received a bad report, and was called on friday and told I had to come back in and was told that I have calicum in my left breast, I need to go to the Doctor, and I need the refund for my copay, I have sent nunmerous emails and several phone call, to Newport News, and it is just like they do not hear me. I do not thind that Newport new will ever refund the money and my health is in harms way. They do not care, I have been told by some that it will be rush thru, some say two billing cycle, I have never heard from some of them, but, I wish that I had found and read this web site before I ordered. I will nor will my friends ever buy from Newport News again, I just do not understand them not helpong someone who is as afraid as I am and need the money so bad, , I did even try to get mean and threathen them with BBB and fraud and the FBI. and think that this should happen as they are cheating so many people from all the reviews I have since read, NO ONE SHOULD BUY FROM NEWPOT NEWS> They are rude and lie and will not do what they say.Today is the 27th and they have had this back since the 12th and I know that they can do electronic transfer as they did on return postage, They just will not refund my money. Can someone Help? What can we the, customer do?

fraudulent

Last fall someone obtained my credit card number and made a number of unathorized purchases. I notified the credit card company and they investigated and credited my account. Of all the vendors, Spiegel is the only who who has continued to send me a bill for the unathorized purchase. The credit card company has sent written notification to Spiegel twice about the fraudulent purchase; I have made numerous calls to Spiegel's customer serivce line and faxed them the credit card company's fraud report--twice! Each time I call I am treated rudely by their customer service people and given the runaround. To avoid being sent to collections and damaging my credit, I just paid the $100. I am thoroughly disgusted with this company. If someone were to give me a gift from Spiegel, I'd trash it.

refund - or lack thereof

I purchased a top and skirt online and was unhappy with the quality when I received it. Although it was pictured together online, implying it was a "set" - the fabrics were different types and colors and both were thin and of poor quality - more like cheap t-shirt material than a nice skirt set and since I paid over $80 for it, I wasn't impressed. I returned it promptly and it's now been over 2 1/2 monts and I STILL have not been credited the full amount for the purchase although I received a confirmation via email tha they received it and I have called and emailed them repeatedly to straighten this out, to no avail.

I will NEVER purchase from Spiegel again after this fiasco. In a world of computers, inventory management systems and a down economy, where retailers are vying for our dollars, they should know better. I honestly think they were hoping I would just forget about it. Shame on you, Spiegel - I have completely changed my mind about the type of company you really are. Yoru name used to be associated, in my mind, with quality. Now I associate it with low quality products, poor customer service and a general lack of concern about your customers and their perception of your company. #fail

no refund issued

In late May, ordered and received a blazer from Spiegel. Returned it the next day. Received confirmation of receipt from Spiegel. It is now August 31, and I still haven't received a refund. Spiegel has not notified my bank/credit card of refund due. Wrote to the Attorney General in Virginia. Will also write to Federal Trade Commission for fraud/theft on the part of Spiegel. WARNING!! If you purchase from Spiegel and return the purchase, be prepared, you will need to fight for your refund. Lesson learned. I will never purchase from Spiegel again.

    I ordered a jacket on February 2, 2011 and received it 10 days later. The jacket size was extremely off in sizing and returned February 16, 2011. 2 week later I called customer service and asked them to verify that they received the return, he said "yes" and it's in our system. That was a lie because I checked a month later and my account never showed a return. I called and they said they will bring this to the attention of the credit department. I still haven't a credit since 2 weeks ago (May 2, 2011).

refunds

Spiegel and Newport News have lost another customer. It has been approximately six weeks since I returned items to these companies. Though they acknowledge receipt of my items, as of today, I have not received a refund and their websites do not show them as being processed. Any email correspondence to them is responded to with a form letter. No real status update. In the meantime, they have the merchandise and my money. Never again will I order from the people. Their business practices and customer service SUCK!

    I've had sort of a reverse situation with Spiegel. I returned merchandise to them and they continue to dun me for payment. I placed an order in May and when they confirmed the order by e-mail, they had not given me the promotional price which was the reason I placed my order. After a number of calls and their refusal to change the amount to be charged to my credit card, I asked to cancel the order and they refused that also, saying it was already being processed. I then told them I would refuse it. They warned me not to do that as their insurance was only in effect to the point of destination, not the return trip. I was told to accept and use the label provided for return. I did this. Six weeks later they e-mailed saying my Spiegel account was past due. I e-mailed back that I didn't have an account with them. At that point they sent an e-mail saying my charge card (Visa) had been charged on the day of the order and apologized for any inconvenience. Then in August, I was again dunned and e-mailed back and also called. I received an e-mail saying they were checking the matter and would be back to me within a day. The representative I talked with told me she would also get back to me. I never heard from them directly again. On November 12, I received a notice from a collection group, I.C. Systems. I called them on November 13 and was told I should pay the amount and then try to collect from Spiegel. Since Spiegel has shown no inclination to straighten this out since May, I have no faith in them refunding my money. However, the collection group says if I don't pay, it will be a negative entry on my credit record.
    Basically, first Spiegel refused to honor their promotional price for merchandise ordered and refused to cancel the order, then they kept trying to get payment for the returned merchandise and now are attempting to ruin my credit.

    I totally agree ... Newport News.com SUCKS!! I returned 2 items on 12/08/10 and verified that they were received at the Newport News warehouse on 12/13/10 and as of 12/28/10 ... the items are not even being shown as received by the company much less a refund being processed. When I inquired about their receipt of my returned items I got a form letter saying it may take up to 2 billing cycles to see my refund. They will not even acknowledge receiving the items! I will never order from them again and I will make sure everyone I know is aware of their horrible customer service!

    I was charged over $200 for $100 worth of merchandise, once interest, shipping charges, etc. were added to my account. I returned all but 2 items, it took over 2 months for them to acknowledge receipt - even though I had UPS receipts of proof of delivery. I am still fighting with them to remove the interest charges for items I returned.

    LOL. THE COMPANY FILED BANKRUPTCY... NO WONDER FOR THE RUN AROUND FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS... IM NOT SUPRISED... I GUESS WE WONT BE GETTING OUR REFUNDS...

    I agree completely. Returned merchandise over 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive a refund. have been told that they have no record of my return "in the system" and that it takes 4-6 weeks to process a refund (really? it didn't take that long to process my money). Have twice requested a supervisor to speak with and was told both times that it was worthless to speak to a supervisor as they would tell me the same thing! Nonetheless I have never heard back from a supervisor either time. Lack of answers when I requested a name to whom I may address these issues. I will now pursue this through any consumer and/or legal agencies that I have available to me. Will never do business with this company again and have posted on as many social networks available to get the word out.

credit card charges

Spiegel is the worst company to deal with; do not get their credit card; purchased a bathing suit in 10/2009, returned the item via usps and received a credit on spiegel credit card and closed the account. Fast forward to 04/2010, received a statement for $7.05; took 6+ phone calls to customer service (They hang up on you after you speak to a customer service rep for about a minute) to straighten out the issue of finance charges on supposedly $1. Xx owed for difference in issuance of credit for return of product?
They indicated the refund was not for the whole amount of the purchase and was about $1. Xx less; so after 6 months, about $6 worth of finance charges. This makes no sense/nonsensical and not to mention no statements for 6 months and being charged on an account after closing it and confirming there was a zero balance in 10/2009.

    Purchased a beautiful metallic platinum pantsa suit online from Spiegel. Wore to dinner one night. Took it to be drycleaned as the label instructed. NO METALLIC remained on the gray linen afater it was cleaned. The label instructions had no exceptions noted for specific solvents or chemicals. Spiegel schmegel refused to bal their fabric. Was told I could exchange - time for turn around of garments was to be 6 - 8 weeks.

    With no dry cleaning instructions noted, except "DRY CLEAN ONLY". Spiegel should back up their products.

can't get refund for returned merchandise

I ordered clothing, but when it came in, I found it was cheap and poorly made. So I returned it via UPS...

I ordered several bathing suits in May 2009 & returned them in June 2009 via UPS. I received a bill from Spiegel Catalog for the purchased items & in return called & inquired if they had received my returned items. They said "no" & to check back so I checked back in 10 days. They said they still had not received my returned items. In the meantime, I was still receiving monthly billing from Spiegel. In August 2009 they said they had finally received my returned items and by that time I had made several inquiries and they said they had received my return too late and would have to issue me a credit voucher for $156.00 & in the meantime would still have to pay on my credit account (a Spiegel credit card).
I tried to use my credit voucher on 11/23/09 & I received a notice in the mail that the order I placed with my credit voucher had been cancelled because World Financial Network National Network Bank was unable to approve the credit transaction & if I had any questions to contact them at PO Box 337006. Northglenn, CO [protected] or call [protected]. Meanwhile they would be happy to reprocess my order using another alternative method of payment or to charge my order on a different credit card to call [protected]. Of course they apologized for any inconvenience & looked forward to serving me in the near future. My Spiegel credit card has been paid off & closed, I tried to use my credit voucher & now they don't know if they can refund my $156.00 in a check form to me. I think I might expire from this lifetime before this is resolved. What they are doing is holding the returned items and telling the consumer they have not received the returns in a timely manner, the consumer is in the making payments on their credit card plus interest and SPIEGEL/NEWPORT NEWS is issuing a credit voucher less the interest the customer has paid. I WAS A CUSTOMER OF THIERS FOR 20 YEARS
NOT ANYMORE ALL I WANT IS MY 156.00 SOMETIME BEFORE I DIE. THIS IS A RIP OFF

    Do you have Proof? did you save your tracking #? did you send it back yourself and USPS misplaced it? Items are scanned in their warehouse and they have a screen that identifies returns. if they said they don't have it...they don't have it. Claiming a company is defrauding it's customers and lying about receiving merchandise without proof isn't fair.

    The bank and the catalog company aren't even owned by the same people. Why would they lie about your return just to get make you pay bank fees? They wouldn't.

charges, no customer service

I just paid $22.89 for stuff I didn't want and had returned to Spiegel's TWO MONTHS before they gave me a credit. In the meantime their evil bank partner WFNNB slapped a $25 late fee and finance charges onto my account. After 6, SIX!, phone calls I got the late fee and finance charges removed. I paid $15.94 for the original delivery (which I considered exorbitant since most companies are giving free delivery now) and $6.95 for the UPS return (which I intended to pay). It isn't the money. It's the INCOMPETENCE and INEFFICIENCY of their systems.

    You made a purchase with a credit card knowing delivery was not refundable and was sent to you via UPS with tracking. You mailed the merchandise back using their UPS return label which has a stated fee. You DON"T make a payment on your credit card bill knowing you at least owe SOmething, and you are complaining of the EVIL bank and catalog company being incompetent. If they say is takes up to 30 days to receive a credit, why are you not making your payment in the meantime? Didn't you read the policy page before you ordered? I guess not.

Well, where to begin. I am going to preface this complaint by saying that the only reason I can think of for the shoddy unprofessional customer service is the fact that they must be going out of business. Probably they were told to hold on to any refunds. I have talked to many people, so-called supervisors, csr's, sent dozens of emails, etc, all to no avail. I get the same response, mostly by monotone, flat voices that tell me to give it 'more time' and that they will make my case a 'priority'. I have been told a supervisor would call me within 72 hours so many times its not even funny. Every now and then I will talk to someone who will feign concern and change the octaves of their voice a few times to give me the impression that they are empathetic. Ah...it is so wearisome dealing with this company.
I have purchased many an item from this company. It goes unsaid that I never will again. Last June (yes) I purchased two dresses and a necklace. Within 2 weeks (July) I returned the items. OMG It is almost Halloween and I still have no sign of my refund. I was told that the items were received Aug.4, after being told they were received July 23. I was sternly chastised after each call and instructed to have patience and wait, as they 'have 4-6 weeks for something laughably called 'processing' and to just wait.' Well, it has been well over 6 weeks and still no refund to my credit card. What do I do? I have complained with the Better Business Bureau, called and emailed untold times, been promised 'by the end of the week' I will have my refund (6 times) and so not what? I really think either they wait so long that they are hoping that you forget that you are owed a refund, or that they HAVE TO BE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!!!What other possible reason could there be? No company could possibly be so inept, unprofessional, sloppy, incompetent, and unorganized. Any advice anyone? Sherry Briggs

    Truer words were never spoken, Sherry. It is a shame because this company has cute clothes for reasonable prices, but it is JUST NOT WORTH THE HASSLE. Hang in there, girl, stay on top of them.
