The Issue
On April 4th, at Ennis Smyths Toys Store the Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage item was clearly marked
on the shelf for €66.99 (Pictures taken). Due to a system error, I was
charged the "old" price of €81.99 at the till. I did not notice the
discrepancy until reviewing the receipt later. To confirm the error, I
returned to the store today and noted the shelf price remains at
€66.99.
Unacceptable Managerial Conduct
When I politely requested a refund for the €15.00 price difference,
the manager, Ross, was dismissive and aggressively rude. Despite me
providing photographic evidence of the shelf pricing and the original
receipt, he refused to acknowledge the store’s error.
Most concerningly:
He became confrontational and aggressive in front of my young son,
which left the child visibly shaken and scared.
He refused to process the price difference refund, stating that if I
"didn't like it," I should bring the toy back for a full
refund—completely ignoring the fact that the toy is already in use and
the error lies with the store's pricing display.
His lack of empathy and basic conflict-resolution skills represents
the worst customer service I have encountered in Smyths so far.
Recommendation: Triple check your price at the till before you pay as you may get surprised at home
NO is NOT the SAME as RUDE. GROW UP, CHILD.
If you cannot afford to pay the full price then he has a point. RETURN THE TOY.
You set a poor example for your son by mistaking no for rude.
