Hello Amatul,
We're still looking for the Double up Billing & Adjustment... which has occurred again, now 2 months in a row... however, for us, this was only to get someone's attention at Reliance. The real issue(s) are this;
- We incurred Water, pipe and/or blown seals, damage to the house
- Reliance promised 5 separate times that the installation would be done... on 4 of those times, they missed the installation dates
- On Aug., 21, 2021 your Sales Rep. Reyna gave an estimate. It was identified by both of us, that 1 exhaust pipe would need to go up the existing exhaust chimney and Reyna gave us an Estimate reflecting the add'l cost.
- Aug., 23, 2021... Your crew was here, with all the equipment to do the install, however, this crew was uncomfortable doing the job and called to have a more experienced crew come in.
- Aug., 24, 2021... The more experienced crew arrived, again with all the equipment, but stated that the exhaust pipes should go up the existing exhaust chimney, and since this required a crew that works with heights, they'll reach out to the Installation Manager, to get in a crew that does work where heights/roofs are involved.
- Aug., 25, 2021... Even though 5 other homes within view, built at exactly the same time, clearly have the double pipes up the existing exhaust chimney, this third crew refused to do the work and wanted to call in a 'Specialist'
- Aug., 27, 2021... The 'Specialist' arrived and stated, "Here's the solution... we install an Electric Water Tank and eliminate 1 of the pipes... Problem solved!"
- Aug., 28, 2021... An Electric Hot Water Tank arrived, but no one could locate the Electrician, that was scheduled to arrive between 12:00-3:00 p.m. (he never arrived this day), so the Installation Technician did the plumbing required and got the water attached to the Water Tank, but of course, without the hydro, there would only be cold water... however, the installation crew said, that if nothing else, the Air Conditioning would be working before they left.. then, just before they left, they decided to test the furnace... not saying anything to me, it started getting hot in the house, plus they left the front door wide open, which let all the hot humid air into the house... I started having symptoms of Heat Stroke. This continued for over 30 minutes.. my son was getting ready to call 911... I decided to take a cold shower, to see if I could calm down the shaking... as soon as I lifted the handle to start the shower, there was a huge Bang!... I don't scare easily, but this got to me! Yes, I'm aware & expected the air bubble popping & gurgling that happens after the water main has been shut off.. but this was something else... so I slowly opened the tap to the sinks in the bathrooms & kitchen, to relieve the pressure... and also slowly turned on the shower... this time, everything was more of what I expected... although, the water pressure was only around 1/2... I just thought that maybe the Installer didn't fully open the main shut off...
- Aug., 30, 2021... We were told the Electrician would be there between noon and 2:00 p.m... I got a call from the electrician, somewhere around 3:30 p.m. that he's on his way, to hook up the hydro to the Hot Water Tank... about 10 mins. before he arrived, I went down to the basement and was greeted with over 1"of water in some areas... I called Reliance with an Emergency issue (yes, I turned off the water main...), to which Reyna said that someone would be sent out on Monday... nice Emergency Support!
The"Brand New"Hot Water Tank was defective... WTF!
The Electrician wasn't amused with all the water when he arrived... he proceeded to help mop it up... Call someone regarding the defective Hot Water Tank and that a replacement needed to be delivered... then he told us that he'd need to call in someone to drill all the holes required into the ceiling... which basically would make holes every 18" in our ceiling... seriously WHAT! We told him that there was no way that we would allow him or anyone else to put that many holes in our ceiling spanning from the Bar Room thru to the end of the Rec Room. So I came up with a solution, to which he got approval from his superior. Figuring all was finally in order, I needed to run an errand. About an hour later, I returned and asked my son how the hot water is... his reply was, "What Hot Water?" Common, what the hell? He proceeded to tell me, that the Electrician didn't show up with enough wire to do the job... Seriously? Just go to the Freak'in Home Depot and finish this!
Aug., 31, 2021... The electrician finally hooked up the "Replacement" Hot Water Tank... yay... After all this time, we were dirty, stinky, less than human feeling... My son was taking a shower upstairs and I was down in the Livingroom... I started to hear this, drip... drip.. drip. drip, drip, drip, drip... it got really bad... I told him to shut off the shower, we have a leak... he looked as to where the water was possibly coming from... then showed me, that more than 50% of the water was gushing out from behind the shower unit... This is stupid! I proceeded to try to get hold of anyone at Reliance... I tell you, good Freak'in Luck trying to get hold of any decision makers at this Company!
Afterwards, I told my son, about the loud bang that I encountered and now all this water gushing out from behind the shower unit, I suspected a blown seal or something... so we started using the basement shower... some how my son figured that the Water Falls setting on the upstairs shower was still ok... but it dispenses at least 3 times more water than the regular shower setting... so were wasting bucks of water...
In closing... as I spoke to someone last Monday, claiming to be from the Resolution Department, told that we'd hear back from her in a few days, we haven't heard a peep back since... she agreed that a Plumber needs to address our shower system issue and hopefully it's an easy fix, but it would be a Reliance Plumber, because if we contracted our own to fix it, good luck getting reimbursed. So I said, fine... please get someone in... 45 days later, we're still waiting! Then there's the water damage to our kitchen ceiling, to which we have a estimate, but we've also been told that it would need to be authorized by Reliance before commencing the repairs... otherwise we'd probably be out of luck to get reimbursed for that as well! What's wrong with this Company? Customer Service like this is just plain poor!... and not to mention... look up how hot it was during those days... it was brutal..!
We expected some sort of response in a timely fashion... Good Luck with that?... and this Company's Guarantee of $500.00 for missed Installation Dates... Total [censored]!... and then, to add insult to injury, these [censored]s Double Bill us, and yet, added the Billing of the Replaced Hot Water Tank within 3 days of the very next Billing Cycle! BRUTAL!
This Company is by far, the worst I've ever dealt with in my 52 yrs. of dealing with businesses.
Desired outcome: Restitution of Damages, Honour $2500.00 of missed Guaranteed Installation Dates, a Plumber fix the Shower Unit and either fix the Water Damage or give us add'l funds to cover the Estimate we've got to repair the Water Damage.
unauthorized lien
Three years ago, I signed a contract with Reliance for the rental of a central air conditioner. Recently, I learned that Reliance has put a lien for $6600 against my house. Nowhere in the contract is this action by Reliance mentioned. The salesman - Satish Beetan - never mentioned it either. I have tried to contact Reliance at [protected] to ask where they get the legal authority to do this and what actions I can take to have the lien removed. To date, no one at Reliance has returned my calls.
Desired outcome: removal of the lien
I would like to withdraw this complaint. Even though Beetan never mentioned a lien, I did find the reference to it in the contract. Shows that I should read ALL the fine print before signing anything. Live and learn.
We have been renting our furnace through reliance since Feb 2011. Over the past few years the outer shell of the furnace has been rusting. Our basement is dry and when a service technician came to inspect it he said it was probably cause from condensation from the furnace. The bottom plate is nearly rusted out, but he said it's safe. I called reliance to inquire about replacing the plate, they said they will not replace it and we either have to buy out the furnace or have a new one installed and agree to a new contract. We will be looking into having it removed, cancelling our contract and financing a new furnace through another company. Reliance will not get our business again. If they put a lien on our home we will take them to court.
It’s still very very dishonest. The sales people do not mention the lien on your property for the inflated value of their equipment. If they told you that a lien would be put in place for a value of three to four times what the equipment is worth that would be honest. But they do not because no one with even half a brain would agree to it. It’s in the fine print and doesn’t even mention the lien value. Should be against the law. It’s a giant scam
Rental of wall furnace
I purchased a small home in 2012, that the previous owners had a wall mounted gas space heater rented from Reliance Home Comfort. After possession of the home, I contacted the company requesting an account to be set up in my name. I continued to rent this heater and make the rental payments. This home was a rental property for me so this made sense at the time. In 2019 during a annual maintenance service, the technician advised that the firebox on the unit was cracked and a replacement was needed. This was done successfully. In August of 2021, the tenant advised that the CO2 detectors were going off in the home. I contacted Reliance for a service check. Again it was reported that unit had a cracked firebox. The technician explained that it will be an ongoing issue due to the way the unit was venting. It was best that I change the style and go with a direct vent furnace. I contacted Reliance and requested an upgrade to the furnace, understanding that the rental amount would increase as well that additional expenses for running the appropriate gas lines. After several attempts to follow up with Reliance to schedule when this could be completed, I received notice that the tenant was vacating the property at the end of September. (lack of heat) Anyway I called around to find a solution to obtain an adequate heating source for the home. I called Reliance, asking to cancel the new furnace upgrade request (which they had no record of ?) as well as requesting to close my account. I was told that this would be cancelling the contract early on my part and to do so I would have to pay them 6000.00. I then received a call from another source saying that it was reported to them that the damaged wall furnace is still in the unit and the gas feeding it was only turned off. The unit was not flagged /tagged as damaged and anyone could easily turn the gas back on and use the furnace. I was given notice that I could not rent out the home until all safety violations have been corrected. Since then I have reached out to Reliance by call and email requesting that their damaged equipment be removed from the property immediately. I have also requested that I be provided with a copy of the sign contract I have with them (which I dont) a copy of the terms and conditions that they feel I had agreed too, a copy of all the transcripts and voice recordings for every call that I made to them. I have yet to get a response. The damaged unit is still in the home.
So my 1 star rating is actually 0. I strongly advise that consumers read the BBB reviews and complaints. I also advise every one to contact Reliance today and request the same so they understand what kind of contract Reliance has placed on their rental equipment. Then I advise all to get a lawyer. The BBB shows that some consumers have had liens placed on their homes by this company.
Desired outcome: Response and closure of account. Removal of unsafe equipment
Reliance Home Comfort Air Conditioner Rental
In 2017 I called Reliance Home Comfort for an air conditioner. The sales person came out and showed me my options. After talking with him he convinced me with going with a rental as opposed to financing because of the perks that come along with a rental. Now 4 years later I am refinancing my mortgage and have found out that there is a lien against my property for the equipment. Nowhere in the conversation did the sales representative say that this was condition to rental. These things need to be made aware to the consumer so that they can make an informative decision. The sales person should go through the contract and indicate section that are of importance instead of trying to make the quick sale. I am thinking that more commission comes with rental that is why he was so adamant about going with the rental option. To top it off I can't even get through to their legal department to get answers as to how to deal with this. their mailbox is full and no response to my email sent as well. DO NOT EVER USE RELIANCE HOME COMFORT FOR ANYTHING! The company is dishonest and they are crooks. How dare they mess with people's livelihood.
Desired outcome: I would like to have this lien taken off my property and pay what the depreciated value of the air conditioner is.

Quick guide to writing an effective complaint
We have a hot water tank from Reliance Home Comfort rented on a month to month basis. We had a contract with them for this service initiated on or about Dec of 2010. That contract EXPIRED IN 2016 . We did not renew the rental contract agreement with Reliance at that time and have paid for a hot water tank rental on a month to month basis for the last 5 years. On July 19 of this year 2021 we discussed with Reliance the status of our account and were informed that our contract had Expired as of 2016 with our rental agreement being on a month to month basis which we faithfully paid and never defaulted . Reliance verified this conversation with a reference number of [protected]. We now as of Sept 15, 2021 replaced their hot water tank and paid for the final billing on Sept 16, 2021 up to and including Sept 30 of 2021. Informed Reliance to come pick up THEIR HOT WATER TANK . We were told to cancel a contract we must pay $ 300. but since 2016 our contract Expired . Fact is we Do Not Have a Contract and are not obligated to pay any penalty to no longer use their services and have requested they remove their hot water tank from our premises. The tank was disconnected by qualified technicians then placed safely in our garage at street level ready for pick up . The subject now enters the area of Extortion as we never renewed, agreed, to nor signed a CONTRACT after the initial contract of Dec 2021 Expired. Since we were informed we are on a month to month rental agreement our only obligation is to pay for the last month usage which we have already do so .

Desired outcome: We request that Reliance come and pick up their hot water tank unit without delay with no further charges .
Rental Agreement / Billing & Charges
TERRIBLE & fraudulent company!
They should be ASHAMED of themselves!
Misleading & liars !
Desired outcome: Credit issued for over charging & buyout of contract.
Furnace Rental
I was told this was a great option as we could not afford a brand new furnace at the time. Now three years later I'm trying to refinance our mortgage and I have to have a temporary lean lifted from my property. This process take up to 3 week to complete! I was never told that this was the process. At the time I was told that I could call and the lean would be temporary lifted and It was not a difficult process.
First I have to have the bank, Have them draft a letter and email it in. Then I wait for the approval. Again this take up to 3 weeks! Then I can proceed with the mortgage business.
Just skip the furnace rental...
Desired outcome: Make this process quicker and less difficult. Make sure the buyer understands the process before renting a furnace
Phone calls
CONSTANTLY RECEIVING SALES CALLS! SOMETIMES 3 OR 4 PER HOUR. JUST WANT THEM TO STOP!

Desired outcome: Remove my number from list
hot water heater
I called them over a year ago to find out how to discontinue the water heater contract that came with the retirement house we bought the water heater was 15 or more years old they said no issue its to old for us to want peel the VIN sticker mail it to us and good to go.I did this and had the water heater replaced they kept billing us unbeknown to me my wife had kept paying not wanting issues when i found this out i said no more so now they are threatening a legal response for a water heater that is in the recycle yard terrible company will try and drain you for every dollar harass you at every turn non stop phone calls emails not ever will see another cent out of me.
Desired outcome: Pi## Off and leave us alone
If I don't get the problem I am having with this garbage company, there will be another negative comment about Reliance. I to am an old man of 78 years, and I agree with everything you wrote about this garbage company.
hot water tank
This is the most DYSFUNCTIONAL business i have ever come across!
They have no records and the attitude of the customer service is BAD!
I will not ever deal with thiese people again. how does businesses gat away with this?
Air Conditioner & Water Heater
My water heater is over a decade old it runs yellow water from the tap. My white clothes and even other clothing has discoloration. My air conditioner is 3 to 4 years old. It from the very start needed servicing. Every summer it has had a couple of service calls. Both these items need replacement. I have repeatedly asked for this but get no response. I am seriously looking into a legal avenue and new company. As I am sitting here now writing you I am waiting since 1pm for a service personnel to repair my air conditioner. This is terrible having to always wait 4 hour periods for servicing. My neighbors are noticing the company vehicles that are coming and how often.
Desired outcome: Replacement products that work
Don’t waste your time on these clowns
Had service scheduled, was at home sitting by the front door between 1 - 5 pm as agreed. Service person never showed. Instead, they reported that we weren't home.
No call. No heads up. Just an ambiguous email saying they service had been concluded… it had not.
Called in to inquire about the appointment. They person on the phone was courteous and helpful. She called back and as an individual went above and beyond and unsold us on a maintenance package.
All for not because here we are again - 2nd day in a row they didn't show.
They have no respect for you or your time. Obviously they are making enough money that they don't feel the need to…
Desired outcome: Reliance Home Comfort goes out of business
Fraudulent Billing
We are new tenants that moved into a retail location. A few months after taking over the lease we received 2 bills directed to our address from Reliance. The bill stated we owed them several hundreds of dollars for their water tank rental. I called to inform them that 1) we don't know who Reliance is and we have never called them to install any water tank and 2) they should come and pick up their water tank because we have no intention of doing business with them nor are we willing to assume any previous tenant's agreement with Reliance. A manager came on the phone and confirmed my concerns, apologized, asked if we were interested in renting their water tank to which I declined, and he finally said someone will call me to schedule a disconnect and pick up of their water tank. A few weeks later we receive another bill. I called again and asked to speak with a manager, the representative declined my request and said we must pay. I adamantly requested to speak to a manager and it was flat out refused and the man hung up on me. It has now been over a year since this has been going on. I have been telling them to come remove their tank from our premise which they decline. I request a manager - also declined. Due to the pandemic we were never able to open up for business but now we are opening in two weeks and are in the midst of installing all of our plumbing. We need a water tank and we refuse to use their water tank in case they say that we assumed the water tank once it is used. I am at a loss for words at how such a fraudulent corporation of their magnitude is not investigated by the media and the government for the scams they pull. I refuse to pay their bills, I refuse to use their water tank, and they refuse to get me a manager and they refuse to pick up their water tank. I will be left with no other alternative but to sue them for damages if they prevent us from opening up for business.
Desired outcome: Stop billing is and remove their water tank
Boiler
I moved into a property in Toronto in October last year and Reliance Home Comfort replaced the existing boiler with a tankless water heater and took the old boiler away. Yet I still got charged for renting the old boiler. I have made many phone calls and I was assured that the problem will be addressed and yet I just received a reminder that the bill is overdue. They just ignore my complaints and charge me for a service they do not provide to me.
Credit balance owing to me.
2 months have gone by since I moved and cancelled the water heater rental and that left the owing me money Several Phone calls and 2 months later I still don't have my money I guess they prefer to increase their profit by stealing from former customers Great organization to not do business with.
They told me 2 different times they sent a cheque which never showed up SCAM ARTISTS THATS WHAT THEY ARE
Desired outcome: deliver me cash in an envelope
Installation of furnace and air conditioner
Call on Reliance... STOP! Don't!
This company has to be the worst company in the country. They came to my late mother's house to install a furnace and a/c unit. They installed the items, however, did not complete the installation of the a/c unit. The rep said he could not finish the installation as he could not connect the power. He said he would need some other equipment and come back... he never did. The rep that did the installation also likes to take advantage of seniors, so please be aware. My mother asked questions about the unit and the contract and he skirted around the questions and moved to a different topic, repeatedly. He also never left a manual as to how to use the equipment or digital thermostat. As well, my brother was there and was my mom's caregiver and when he tried to talk to the rep he said he wouldn't talk to him as he's not on the contract.
After a few months I contacted Reliance to cancel the contract to which they advised me that there is no way to cancel it. You either buy the contract out/equipment or if the house is for sale the new owners take over the contract. I was then sent to a customer solutions officer who opened a case for further investigation. She said she would look into the issue and would contact me with an end result. Again, never heard back from her.
Instead, she decided to put a lien against the house for the equipment that was installed although the a/c has no power and is unusable. No information was sent out to inform me of this amount. I am now in the process of looking to take Reliance to court as they are in violation of the Consumers Protection Act of 2002 (installation not completed within 30 days). As well have filed a complaint with the BBB. Don't trust this company or sign anything with them as the contract is like signing your sole away... no way out.
Desired outcome: Contract cancelled and equipment comped (no charge for equipment)
Air Conditioner with poor unacceptable customer service
Started May 15, 2021. My air conditioner stopped cooling. It is July 21, 2021 and still no resolve. I had to go out and purchase 3 portable units, 3 fans along with 3 neck fans. I have a brain injury that requires me to keep it cool. I have suffered extensively with this, through the neglect of Reliance. Why can't people call back instead of making false promises. The only suggestion thrown out to me was "you have to purchase a new unit" Telling a customer "you have to" is an unacceptable approach. Reliance first said my ducts were in the wrong place. Funny they've been fine for the last 9 years. I'm sure they haven't moved. Reluctantly they came out to say the unit had a leak. Attempted to fix, no solution. Then they advised the government has a ban on the fixing coolant. Apparently for some years. You would think Reliance could advise their regular paying protection plan customers of this instead of taking monthly fees for something they couldn't entertain a fix for. A form of fraud to me. Still waiting for a supervisor to call back since last week. A big disappointment, sheer ignorance really. The whole time being 67 days. Is there any one there that might care. Is there any one that knows what they're doing? Other than "you have to" (all c/s sessions stress never use the words "HAVE TO" We will have someone call you leaving me, the customer sitting at home listening for the door bell or the phone to ring. 67 days of my life taken from me.
The only thing I can say that has been right in the last 67 days is Reliance is able to send out my Protection Plan bill on time. Must say at 71 it was a treat hauling those portable a/c's upstairs. I could fill pages but there isn't enough space here
Desired outcome: SERVICE with follow through..
Lien placed on home
My rental tenants speak very poor english and was taken advantage of by a door-to-door sales man many years ago. This sales man explaining that they could sign the name of their landlord if they were planning to pay the monthly cost ("which was suuupppeer low and a good deal") for a new furnace and air conditioning unit.
When dealing with this matter, we were told that the contract was removed. We have all the supporting documents.
But they continued to put multiple leans on the property. We just found this out many years later after we have sold the property and are currently waiting to close. Now we can't seem to talk to anyone with any answers!
The contract was originally signed with ‘home comfort services' which was apparently bought out my reliance. Worst part about it. There is five leins. All with weird companies. When you call them. There is no live agent available. Or they have zero idea on how to help.
Thanks!
Desired outcome: Remove lein and deal with this sales man (we do have his name)
Hot water heater
No hot water for 3 days . Called 10 times for service and each time your East Indian call Center people say that the tech is running late but is on his way. My guess is that they have no idea wether the tech is on his way or not. Reliance should not be teaching such practice to this call Center. I need a local number to call . That of course is impossible since the company does not want to or does not know how to deal with customers. Stop billing me for a rental that is not working please . I'm looking for a response from a person of authority and not from a call Center third party person . And don't bother sending me an automated generic response. You guys are so disorganized, get your act together!
Its normal for reliance. They don't care. Even if you try to email to top management to complain they would not respond.
The only option is yo put pressure on the government to put more restrictions on such corporates to honor their false advertisements.
The media such as CBC outlet has a role to play the protect the consumers and raise such matters
No hot water
We have zero hot water. I called Reliance Home Comfort and was informed the earliest an engineer come come was in 12 days. On my water tank it states Reliance offer a premium service.
Hot water is a daily need, I've called every day for the last 3 days to see if they can come sooner. They just make excuses with no real explanation and nor do they care.
Date reported June 16th to Reliance Home Comfort
Photo attached showing Premium Service.
Desired outcome: Hot water within 24 hours
