charge for movie I didn't rent
Was charged for a movie that I never rented. They took the charge off but my question is how could this happen and I can not trust them any more. Was good while it lasted.

constant charging for dvd returned
I thought Redbox would be wonderful. WEll, i was wrong! Every time I check my bank account, there is another charge from those people. When I call them, they claim they did not authorize any charges and blame the bank. The bank says they do not take out charges unless they are told to, meaning Redbox. Now my bank wants to charge me $26 to stop payment on a $1.07 charge! or I can just cancel my credit card and start over. Well my husband's paycheck is direct deposit to that card and that would be very inconvenient. All of this headache for $1.07 constantly being charged on our card. NEVER AGAIN. Redbox is not worth it. Go on line to Netflix and that place is super. Never once had any problems with them.

Idk I love redbox. Never had a problem with them before. And as to how they make money? They rent out the same DVD's thousands upon thousands of times to different customers. they really don't need to scam people, which is why they don't lol. Just do everything correctly and it'll be fine.
Same here, I won't be using Redbox again. They charged my card numerous times and they blamed the bank. They charged me today 2/24/2014 for a movie that I supposedly rented months ago. That's stupid because every time I'm charged anywhere else the money comes right out of my account so Redbox is full of [censored]. I can't speak for anyone else but I won't be renting from them again. Plus the person that I spoke with was very rude. He had the nerve to say I was blaming them for a bank error.
DON"T USE REDBOX
I'M ON THE PHONE WITH THE RED RIP OFFS NOW AND THEY TOOK 71.00 FROM ME... THEY INSULT ME WITH A REFUND OF 23.00... THIS IS GOING TO BE REPORTED...THEY SHOUL NOT BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS.. DON'T USE REDBOX
yep, this totally happened to me too, about a year ago. i turned two movies in together a few weeks later i had barely 30 bucks and it almost over drafted me, then i wasnt getting paid again for a week, and had planned on coasting o nthe 30, but had to coats on 5, with two kids! fun! not to mention, i returned my two rentals at the same time, on time, always on time, and they were charging me for one, then when i called them, they are like, oh yeah, we see where you turned them both in, sorry about that- the machine must have had an error, i wonder how many ppl that happens to that might not even notice it, say a guy about to deploy who cant check his statement for 3 months (maybe a submariner) or maybe someone who is just not attentive to their charges... or maybe has a little more money than the average person, therefore might not study their bill like we broke ppl do and 25 $ being noticeable, but you know, i never did rent from them again, and i tell everyone not to as well, if they keep renting from them, saying (its never happened to me!) then they are stupid as hell, bc obv it didnt happen to me until it did, so they are not untouchable either, when soemone is sitting there telling you how many other ppl its happened to, and you let it happen to yourself, if your that dang stupid, you obv deserve it!
same thing happened to me, rented one movie, returned it the next day (within the 24 hour window, and the following month $26 charge on my statement from Redbox.
I was wondering how they made money, Redbox =POS.
It has been almost over a month since i rented from RedBox and now they are deducting money fom my account for a movie that I turned in like I said almost over a month ago this charge is out of nowhere and I am wondering why they can do this and how I can stop it!
I am so pissed! rented a movie and returned next day. 3# weeks later I see $25 charged on my account)! called customer service and they only returned $10. So basicly I gave them $15 for a movie a returned and don't have in my hands. And the lady kept saying "i'm not saying you're lying ma'am but I can only return $10" WTF! not renting anymore from red box for sure.
I rented 4 movies on 10/22 and returned them on 10/24. they charged me today a total of 102.72. After being on the phone and talking to 4 different people, all of whom treated me like I was a [censor] decided to refund me $40.00 only, because since their magical machine didnt show as being returned I must have stolen them or something. I will NEVER use them again and will strongly urge people to either use Netflix or just buy the damn movies... REDBOX should be ashamed of themselves... damn thieves
I watch my DVD be return and it said successfully returned. Redbox charged me $52 dollars saying the DVD where not return and since I don't have an email saying they where returned I get nothing back. I will not rent from REDBOX ever again because of this. I would not even give the company 1 star.
Here's whats causing a lot of these problems: Someone is NEW to Redbox, they rent a movie and when they go to return it, they just walk up to the machine, Select Return, as soon as the screen pops up the insert their disk and immediately WALK AWAY from the machine.
Now, as soon as they walk away, the machine spits their disk back out because they inserted it backwards. Then someone else takes their disk and keeps it.
The problem is, people need to STAND THERE and MAKE SURE the machine accepts the disk back. You need to WAIT until you see a screen on the RedBox machine that says: Your DVD has been Successfully returned. Even then, WAIT about 2 seconds before you hit the CONTINUE button.
I have used Redbox for years and never had a problem BUT I've seen people using the RedBox machines make this mistake at least 20 times. They just walk up, hit return, push their disk in the slot and immediately walk away only to have the machine spit their disk back out after they have gone.
overcharging
I just discovered Redbox rentals in my town last week and thought I would try it out. I rented a movie, took it home and returned it the next day. I did this a few times over the last week and returned each movie on time. I thought it was odd that you don't get a receipt for your returns, and now I know why. I looked at my checking account statement online this morning and noticed all these charges for $2's and $4's from redbox. There were about 7 different charges on there. I haven't even rented 7 movies from them. I have been getting charged every night for the last few nights from these people so I have had to cancel my debit card and apply for a new one. I have tried contacting this company but no one answered . This company is a scam! I will never use them again.

Redbox automation dvd charge me 89 dollars for 2 dvds that was two weeks late instead of charging me the proper rental fee for those nights I want my money back
My husband is currently dealing with this as well. This is unlegal for them to do.
76.00 on my credit card wth ?..this is the second time I've been ripped off from this company. This is getting to be a constant problem. I'm done .Class action should be started enough is enough .Ive read all of the complaints. Something should be done. My blood pressure can't take it anymore.
Redbox just overcharged me 14.00 for 2 movies I had for only 4-5 hrs and refuses to accept responsibility saying I did not return them for several days! Impossible as me and my kids watched and directly returned as we are one block from a Jewel/Osco could emailing the main office help?
I rented 5 movies from redbox. They were returned the very next day. Yesterday I got an email from them saying that the movies were never returned and I was billed $125.00. They said that after 21 days, the movie is yours for $25. I called customer service, told them there was an error and that the movies had, in fact been returned. I got NO WHERE! The lady said that my debit card would be charged, they would continue to process the transaction once a week until they got their money. I had to go to the bank, cancel my debit card and file a complaint. What a rip off! Since then I am hearing so many similar stories. One lady hadn't rented in 6 months and got a bogus charge of $75!
You Guys are stupid.. Ever heard of Pre-authorization. And go and check the statements, I bet you wont see those charges now.
I found this page when researching multiple Redbox charges happening on my debit/credit card. I rented two DVDs online today, the card was charged immediately, and I could not pick up the DVDs when the Redbox unit was not working. I was given two free credits. So, I go and use the "free" rental credits at another Redbox unit, and my card is STILL charged full price for the rentals. I know the charges will eventually be re-credited once the initial authorization expires, but this could put some peoples' accounts overdrawn. (It used to be that just a $1.00 authorization charge would be applied.)
I have also noticed before that a rental would be reserved online with the card being charged immediately, only to be re-charged again upon return, even if it's not late. Once again, the initial authorization will expire and be put back into the account, but this also could lead to overdraft.
After reading this page, it reminded me of months ago when my mother went to return one of my movies, and 21 days later I am charged about $27 for the movie and $32 for going overdraft in my account. We initially thought that the DVD must have popped back out and was stolen (and I fussed my mom and she paid me back what I lost, feeling the guilt), but now I'm not certain of this due to the above comments. Redbox should at least send a courtesy email out to customers when a movie is five or seven days past due to make sure the customer(s) know that the movie still registers as not having been returned, but I suppose that they don't do this so that they can get the maximum amount of money for their "cheap" service that they can get. (All I can think is, thank goodness that they don't charge $100 like video rental stores used to charge when a movie was never returned at all.)
I used to use REDBOX a lot, however now everytime I rent a movie they tend to either overcharge at the begining or delay the charges and almost always have double charged. I have spoken with their customer service department and they never, never, never, never accept responsibility, they always say they have 90 days to charge you, but since they don't provide receipts ( except via emial, which they will say the email only reflects that the movie was rented and not affect the charges...what?)...so I've had to dispute my card through Visa. The company has a great idea but either grew too fast or made a decision to operate on the fringe of honesty...I won't rent anymore movies again!...
I RENTED REDBOX MOVIES FOR MY DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY. WHICH WAS APRIL 8 TRIED TO RETURN THEM REDBOX WAS BROKEN. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID SHE WOULD TAKE THE CHARGES OFF. DIDNT HAPPEN. TODAY WENT TO BANK TO GET MONEY AND THEY HAD TAKEN OUT 72 DOLLARS FOR THE MOVIES, SO I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE SPOKE WITH ROBYN AND A SUPERVISOR TODD SAID COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ITS A BIG RIP-OFF. I DISCOURAGE ANY ONE FROM USING IT.
I have been renting from Redbox on ocassion for over 3 months, maybe 4 DVD's total in that time. One DVD was so scratched it would not play. They did refund my nights rental. Things happen. Now I am seeing on my credit card that they charge me for nights after I returned the movie, and after the date on my Redbox account says it was returned. I asked about in the My Account section, is the "date rented" the date it was reserved online, or when the DVD is removed from the Kiosk? The representative had no idea. So what that told me is they area easily charging people for an extra night. I had to call, wait on hold for a while, argue my situation and finally got the $1.09 credit. It's just not worth it. I spent over 20 min plus cell phone minutes to save a $1? I won't say to never rent from RedBox but if you do, be very careful, check for correct billing especially for online reservations and make sure to get a receipt for the return. Geez with all the driving to the kiosk to get the DVD then driving to return it, then dealing with billing issues, plus the actual rental fee it's costing about $3 a night to rent, just pay for On Demand from cable for $5 or join netflix. I don't know.
movie absent
I dont know if this is an affective way to let people know my complaints, but, on the redbox advertisment right next to the redbox machiene, it said " hell boy 2" and it specified the date in which it comes out "november 11" and it is november 22 right now, and yet the move, hellboy 2, is yet to be seen. I was really looking forward to watching that movie, and I am a good customer, i Come every week since the day redbox started.
"i Come every week since the day redbox started."
Because a big red machine takes that into consideration...
There are likely other redboxes in town, try them.
I rented a movie for a night and returned it the following day .
A month goes by and as I look over my credit card bill I notived a charge of $26.50.
This is the 3rd time it has happen to me.
REdbox let the first two go by and credited my account.
This time they say I have to pay and they will give me a credit of $10.00.
I'm pissed because I did return the DVD the following day, so now I have to pay $16.50.
I will never use redbox again
questionable business practices!
You may have noticed large red DVD rental kiosks in your local supermarket installed by a company called "RedBox." I was so excited as it seemed so convenient to rent a DVD this way, and it was "only" .99 per night. However, I've now paid the same price I'd pay at Blockbuster video for a new release, and I have not had any response to my request for assistance from RedBox (via their website OR their toll free number).
When I went to return the DVD the following day, their kiosk was down, which means you have NO WAY TO RETURN THE DVD, AND CHARGES CONTINUE TO ACCRUE TO YOUR CREDIT CARD THAT YOU SWIPED TO RENT IT. When I phoned them from the kiosk as instructed (using my cell phone which has a pay-as-you-go plan) I was on hold for 15-16 minutes, and repeatedly encouraged by a computer voice to leave a voicemail message for them, and that they would return the message in 24 hours. We are going on 120 hours, and counting...
So I sent them e-mails over the weekend requesting assistance. No response to those, either. And my card continues to be charged... DO NOT RENT A DVD FROM REDBOX! It is a consumer protection nightmare because you can't get a live person to help you. Just walk over to your nearest video rental store and rent your movies the old fashioned way.
The redbox in West Ashley, Charleston SC, will not take my return. I did record a video so I will be submitting that. I've used redbox for several years and never had a problem like this before.
This is literally a thieving scheme they've stolen $45 from me so far and my videos where returned. Do not ever trust them with your cc info they will charge and charge you with no way to contact them. Horrible criminals who hide behind a corrupt corporate veil. I hope a class action takes them down quickly

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GET ANYTHING FROM REDBOX. This is probably the shadiest company I ever had to deal with. My card is still being charged somehow when I been deleted my card and been returned the movies. So they keep your card information and slowly takes money from your account. Pathetic.
Every month for pass 6 mths redbox charges unauthorized charges to my card I want it to stop and I want all my money refunded...
Redbox hope y'all go out of business wait u want cause u take money from people for not Damn reason and nobody can do anything about it 🖕
I been charge 31 dollar's for a movie That i didn't get and i want my money put back on my Card
Redbox charged me $17.66 for returning a movie 10 days late, but I returned it the day after I watched it. No more Redbox movies for me - got no satisfaction from the company.
I go to rent a couple movies new years day 2017. I pick Bad Moms, Suicide Squad and Magnificent 7. It gives me my 3 cases and I get in my 18 wheeler and head on. Well I stop for the night and wanna chill and watch a movie. It gave me 2 bad moms and a freaking cartoon movie. U have no idea how pissd I was and there customer service is closed
I rented a movie yesterday and it started skipping about 30 minutes in.
Tried taking it out and cleaning it, but it did not cease skipping.
No, in fact, it skipped over half of the movie and now I'm starring at a frozen, unmoving screen.
Lovely.
Ps. It's scratched af

well, I tryed to rent 2 movies a couple of weeks back from the redbox & my debt card kept getting declined, so I called redbox & they told me that I could'nt rent from them because I kept 2 movies out for 16 days & owed them $35.00, So they told me the names of movies I had rented& the datethey where supposely rented on . I thought it was kind of funny because I own one of the movies already, and don't understand why I would have rented that one, so I called my bank & there was no transactions made on the date redbox claims. I get redbox & my bank on three way & the lady from the bank tells them I did not use my card on that date, they are not trying to hear that, so I go through all this crap for nothing, in the end redbox tells me I can rent from another debt card, Oh yeah these movies where supposed to have been rented feb 08' Why did they let me rent movies almost a year later ( jan 09" if I owed them money? THen the lady from my bank tells me she hears alot of bad stuff about redbox & would never rent from them. I think redbox sucks when it comes to customer service. They act like there machines cannot make errors, I been down there a few times & there machine would be out of service. Oh yeah the lady from the bank told me they double charged me for two movies before that I was not even aware of .
