On paper, it sounds like they want to help you. I was given an offer to settle a debt for 30% of the total balance and felt they were doing me a huge favor. After setting up a payment plan, there were red flags all over the place.
The letter they sent me said debit was the payment method and the last 4 digits of the card did not match. I didn't use a debit card, I created a virtual card with a credit card specifically for RGS. I didn't think much of it at first because at a glance, the last 4 look similar. When I started getting letters saying payment failed, I dug up the first letter and noticed the mismatching information. No worries, I figured I'd make a manual payment. Wrong! If you tried to pay with a card, it was greyed out / disabled. But if you entered sensitive banking information, now the one-time payment option wants to work. It's so scummy.
I filed a complaint with my attorney general about this debt collectors deceptive practices. I will absolutely not give some 3rd party debt collector my checking and routing number. Other red flags included not showing the payment plan online, that section was conveniently blank. There's no transparency with this company. A huge waste of your time that's designed to set you up to fail.
Recommendation: Avoid at all costs. If they have a debt for you, file a complaint with your attorney general.
