Petco did not honor price match

When buying cat litter at Petco six weeks ago I checked the price of their Wellness Canned Cat Food, I typically bought 5 cases of Wellness at a local petstore which was about 5 miles from my home. I told the manager that I paid $36.99/case and the petco cost was $44.99. The manager called my local store and verified the price and told me he would match the price. I bought several cases of cat food by going to Petco and they matched the price. When I went to the store today, I was told that I needed to bring a receipt from my local store even though I had several receipts showing they had matched the price over the past six weeks or so. I told them that if I was to buy cases of Wellness from my local store, just to keep bringing them receipts, there was no point shopping at PEtco, I could could simply buy as I had from my local store. I told them I would call their corporate offices but when i looked could not find a way to contact them. I feel lied to and deceived -- essentially i was told they would price match and after six weeks they refused to continue doing so.

Upset and angry grandmother/upset at game stop 67, you do realize that this is a fake review right? This person is just trolling. In the same day we have had two reviews where a person complained that getting bad service made them want to beat their child, (walmart makes my blood boil and made me feel like hitting my son, and now this. I suspect it is the same person with multiple accounts, most likely Tasha and/or Kevin.

You are threatening innocent animals because you did not get your way. Seriously any loving pet owner would not do such a thing. You have a sick mind to be saying something like that.

It does not matter if you were willing to carry on with the threat or not, you can't just say things in public. They have every right to call the police on you for threat like that. You should be lucky that Petco did not ban you as well.

wifi8827 before you go around pretending to be smart, you should know that I was benned from my loco pet store.

Then I got angry and threatened to poison the pets in their store, I was only angry and would not carry through on this, they threatened to call the police on me if I did not leave.

...so do it? If you are unhappy with Petco, then go elsewhere. Why bother complaining to corporate if you already have a solution to the problem.

PetCo changes rules and managers like most people change their underwear. I found they don't care about the customers at all. They are an arrogant company. If you do get through to corp, they will ignore you.

Petco company shipping and return policy

I made an order for dog food with petco.com. Free shipping was marked on the website. Not until I printed out the order #- was shown super saver shipping - 5-7 business days! Totally unacceptable! We are dealing with dog food-my dog is starving and cannot wait at least a week. I called petco.com after speaking to a regular agent and refused to cancel-even though my order was not shipped out yet - I spoke to a supervisor who told me the order was sent to warehouse - and even though not shipped - I could not cancel. This company is horrible! I immediately went on line to wag.com - and received my dog food at same discount price - next day! Will never deal with this awful company again!

Petco dead fish

I purchased 3 fish from them a little over a week ago. Found one of my existing fish dead 2 days after their introduction to my well established (and breeding) tanks. Today, I pulled out 7 of my fish. I called the store and spoke to a manager who refused to believe that any of her Mollies could have caused it because they are all healthy at her store and they check their water daily. I have been breeding these fish for years and never had a problem until I added these fish. The manager was defensing, combative, and downright rude with her insistence and her interrupting me. I will never do business with this store, again, and hope more people follow suit. Customer service and satisfaction mean nothing to them...and apparently the welfare of their animals doesn't either.

Petco never take your dog for grooming

Never take your dog for grooming. I went to petco for training and grooming. I paid a 10 0 dollars in cash for training in glen fale heights location. Where the store is a dump I liked thw trainer until she stoled my money.the money I paid for training classrs they could not find. So they eould not reschedule. Then I paid 60 plus dollars for grooming because I fpund one guy I liked- dante. First cut fair but second cut great. Gave hom a 20 dollar tip for fluffy cut and sent a thankyou. Now went in for thirsd cut and dante said same fluffy cut?

I said yes gav e him a 50 dollar gift to ensure beat cut and it was awful. It only took 1 hour 45 min for a 3 hour process based on their info. I know someone else cut. His. My dog was bleeding in the anus, they cut his left paws but not hos rigjt, hios beard was to tje chin his tail as a [censored]zu has been cut by 3 inchers whicj is not his breed. Bottom line dante lied which he has no credibility nor does petco. I called two times at that dirty store in glen glrndale heifjts. In turn I have placed calls at corporate since I have contacts at corporate.

Please be advised my wife and I have been faithful customers of Petco for years. We have used them for almost three 3yrs. to nail trim our puppys.vice On this particular day she was not there and the groomer charged us $10.00 dollars more for the same service we have been getting for years with the primary groomer. When I questioned the cashier about the extra charge she was rude and disrespectful. As a senior every dollar counts and when hit with extra charges not expected it can hurt. I did not like not being informed about the extra fee, and I espically did not appreciate you cashiers attitude.

I will not return to that store as long as she is employeed there. She is very arguementive and not customer sauve at all.

Petco dangerous design

The Petco Bath Wipes brand has a very dangerous design where it is extremely hard to get the container open. The only way is to stick your finger in the teeth. The problem here is that these teeth are HARD teeth, not soft teeth, so if you put your finger in there you will have an extremely hard time getting it out. After 30 minutes of lots of pain and blood, I got my finger out, but I had lost a lot of circulation. Beware of this brand. There are no warnings on the container saying that you should not do this. A simple fix for this product would be to change the teeth from HARD to SOFT.

Petco bad management

A member of management at the Cheyenne, WY Petco has been verbally abusing her employees. This woman's name is Alisha Jump. Other employees, even employees before I was hired say that Alisha was a verbally abusive person. She only cares about herself and getting her way. She makes other members of management below her very upset and angry with her because she keeps belittling us as people. Alisha has made me and other employees very upset by using personal issues and personal information to embarrass us and get her way. She has embarrassed me in front of customers. She has talked about other employees personal lives way too much. This has to stop. She might be a nice person to customers, but she isn't to her employees. Even employees of management want to quit because of her. Every person I work with at Petco say that Alisha is this way and would agree with me on the spot.
So my advice to whomever reads this... Go to PetSmart instead. :)

Petco veriablly abuse gm (alisha jump)

Alsiha Jump has been veritably abusing associates at work. Wanting them to look bad. Saying if you don't do this and this and this and this then she really makes you look bad.You forget to do one thing and she makes you feel like the bad person but when she forgets to do something we cant say you forgot to do this. When she talks to you its not talking its more in a demanding tone. I understand she is a gm and all but it would be nice if she was more a person saying things not demanding them. Maybe if she learned to talk to her coworkers then things would get done. At this point she has a lot of her coworkers feeling like ### when she is working, Can anyone higher up help me?

Not true, I work with Shatsa. The truth is she only looks bad because she does not do her share of work and we have to cover for her. The only time that Alsiha has made her look bad was when she talked to her about her lack of performance. I also suepect unike_gretchen is another account created by her to make herself look innocent. Shatsa is in her 20's and has a problem with authority.

Petco erroneous sales receipts

Closely examine your sales receipts from Petco. When you purchase the "oops" bags or use "free item" coupons/discount coupons or "buy a homeless pet dinner" cellophane bag (of that non-cost-effective trinket & food), your sales receipt may not accurately reflect your discount and/or have those cryptic discount line items that are difficult to match to your purchases. I have experienced this numerous times over the last couple of years, suspecting that I was possibly, overcharged after I left the store. And, it was too much trouble to return to the store to get correction. I finally got fed up with this repeated offense, a month ago when I was charged an $18 full price for an "oops" item that was supposed to be half price, as well as charged 60% of the price of an item that I had purchased, using a "free item" coupon printed on-line. I finally complained, on-line to Petco.com and my email was referred back to the store, where the manager left a phone message in response to my three complaints. Two weeks later, when I returned to the store, the manager was very friendly and nice and corrected that error and addressed another concern that I had about the store. After that encounter, I felt ok to continue shopping there. But, yesterday, again, the register rang up two "oops" items, not giving me the price that was clearly marked on the neon orange labels on the bags (that enticed me to buy them). A different "manager ?", Jessica was called up to the register to over-ride my order, two separate times, within the same sale, because the register would not post the correct discount prices. I could have let the matter go, ONCE again, but the acting "manager", Jessica was snotty and aloof when I expressed my concern over how often this has happened to me and how I had finally, gone on-line to complain about the last one. Jessica told me not to go on-line to complain because the email will just get referred back to the store, anyway, and that I should just talk to store staff. So, much for expressing concerns, directly to the store staff. Jessica was snotty and talked over me, when I tried to explain how I had just trusted that my items were being rung up correctly and discover issues after I leave. I don't feel like standing and scrutinizing and questioning their cryptic line items and holding up the sales line, and getting manager over-rides every time I make a purchase (because, from past experiences, it is clear that this will happen, most of the time). I was made to feel like the bad guy because I pointed out the register errrors. For some time, I have been wondering if these cash register overcharges via the cryptic discount lines, are by programming design, hoping that customers won't notice or try to figure out, (most store receipts have very clear line items and discount posts) or, like me, don't bother to challenge the receipts, not wanting to look ignorant. After feeling disturbed over this recent incident for the last 48 hours, thinking about how many times I (and, other customers) have been cheated via cash register programming errors (or, intent), and cryptic line items, and Jessica's snotty, condescending behavior toward me (a woman and doctor, old enough to be her grandmother), I am going to take a break from the Brooklyn Park, MN Petco store. (And, I am one of the people who also got screwed out of the PALS free bag of dogfood, when the program got changed.) Dr. C..R.

And, to Nananalloboosticyourheinaindodo (what-ever your ridiculous tag is)- to add to your response, this just shows the public as to what kind of people work at Petco and how they really view us, the public (who are responsible for your having jobs, in the first place). Now, we ALL see ! Clearly, my feelings were hurt while I was trying to do a good thing for helpless animals and allowed prior offenses to go, until I had had enough. And, this is your response to my pain? (Public, take note of this attitude of Petco employees. This is what they really think of us- those who ensure their jobs.) Of course, I am letting other members of our "No-Kill pet rescue" group know about how I was treated, as well as this Petco employee's response. By the way- all the women who volunteer our homes for this No-Kill rescue group, all happen to be female doctors (who are "full of ourselves"?). Maybe, you should stop "hating" and just try being a good person and show respect for your customers, who ensure your job. I had a right to complain, without being shown disrespect. Afterall, I had let this issue "slide", numerous times before I even said anything. Your comment reflects upon you and Petco. Not me. Bad move. (I buy those damaged "oops" bags of food to help us all out on our extra load of pet responsibilities. Now we know how you REALLY feel. And, so do the rest of the public, from your snotty, uninformed comments.) Let us see how often we patronize you, from now on, with our foster pet support.

Nanananalloboosticyourheadindodo- No, you are the snot and too fond of yourself, working at Petco and probably one of the ones screwing customers, there. I buy those "oops" bags for homeless pets that I volunteer to foster. I was treated that way, clearly because of what they saw when they look at me- a person of color, therefore, not deserving to be treated with respect. I add what I do for a living just to point out how some of you judge a book by its "color", literally, and feel entitled to treat certain customers with disrespect, not considering that that customer could be anyone, someone, who knows who. That is why I brought that up. And, I have worked in retail, 46 years ago, when I was a college student. And, many times, was disrespected, then, too. For the same reasons (there is not doubt in my mind). You need to check your grammar, you high school drop out, who is only able to work at Petco for a living. (When, one is typing fast, one can make errors.) You have much room for improvement, you Petco schlepper, you.

I am a petco employee. It is true that the receipts can be difficult to read. The oops stickers I do believe overall are a good idea to keep from wasting good products as well as offering a chance for savings for the customer. Unfortunately the system has some pitfalls. Sticker placement as well as size and shape of the items. Large bags of dog food being one of the worst. If the sticker is on the front and the bag is placed face down the cashier will see the barcode to scan but not see the markdown sticker. The price change is for a single item and not the entire product line so the change is a manual override. We unfortunately rely heavily on the sticker being in view at the checkout or pointed out by the customer. I try to mitigate pricing issues by reading the original price followed by any discounts as each item is scanned. That way if a price is different from what the customer believed it to be I can solve any discrepancies before any charges are made. Also a non manager cannot override beyond 25% or for expiring dog or cat "food" specifically, 30%. Some managers will give override codes to trusted associates even though they aren't supposed to. Each petco store runs a little differently mostly based on the attitude of the general manager. My location is loyalty oriented and we care more about a customer leaving happy and wanting to come back rather than the total of the purchase the one time. Also, at my location, we give discounts regularly just to help people out. When a large fire broke out and people were displaced from their homes, not only did we donate thousands of dollars of product, but we also gave affected people at least 50 % their entire purchase. We also gave massive discounts to furloughed customers. We usually bump oopses to 50% for rescues and give discounts to people who foster. We have customers who regularly drive passed both petsmart and other petcos to support our location. Instead of writing off petco completely, I would call around to the other nearby locations and speak to the general manager. Ask if he would be willing to help a little with costs if your rescue and associated foster parents would frequent his specific location. If one says no the next might say yes, very manager dependant. As far as calling corporate goes, use employee names when you talk to customer service. The complaint will then be on that person's company record. We have a new guy that keeps pissing people off but since the complaints didn't contain his name we haven't been able to fire him yet. Long process... unless the person's name comes up multiple times in corporate calls. Then it is a short process. My location is half a country away but I would bet that one of the petcos near you will have the above and beyond attitude as well. Also corporate promised a huge upgrade to our archaic tech system so hopefully that will mean easier to read receipts and hopefully US based tech support and customer service. Good luck! :D

Looks like you are the snotty one. You should really try working retail so you know what it is like. PetCo's "oops" procedures are for special circumstances and will not automatically be discounted when rung up. This is needed at many other stores as well where bags could be ripped or expiring soon. I believe you use this site to vent because you are embarrassed that you don't understand. I'm glad it is available to you and that very few read it because you are so arrorgent and your opinion doesn't matter.

I partially agree with you that their receipts are more difficult than some to figure out and they do have problems with their lines and stuff sometimes. I think you are way too fond of yourself and the fact that you are a doctor though. I know a high school drop-out that has better grammar than you. Your title is irrelevant. Focus on the fact that they have room for improvement like you, me, and the rest of the world.

As a Petco manager both programs have their good and bad points. For customers who have smaller dogs that don't burn through the food as fast, the buy 10 program was useless. The people with larger dogs who buy tons of bags of food a year the buy 10 was a better deal. One of my customers who buys 5 bags a time every couple of months is now loosing out. 10 bags at roughly $40 a bag will only earn him $20 worth of rewards coupons where the old program would have gotten him a free $40 bag of food. It was a dumb move on petco's part to switch the program without giving notice or the option to stay with the old program. The new program doesn't work worth a ### anyways because the ###s at corporate who designed the system ###ed it all up. Customers information is getting mixed up or not actually being saved into the system. So you might not be getting credit for the purchases that you've made. Yes bag sizes are controlled by the manufacturer. Pricing is to a point. Petco has room to move on some of the pricing but they refuse to do so claiming that ”our exceptional customer service makes up for the slightly higher prices”. Exceptional customer service? Yes if you csn find a store that has plenty of payroll to staff itself, most stores are forced to run on s below skelton crew. but like I said the profit margin on a lot of the stuff we carry is quite high, on some products by as much as 80%, most of the dog food is in the 20-30% range and depending on the store and it's managers, if you question the prices they may discount it just to keep you as a customer. Oh and petco does price match with the exception of it's own online prices. Sorry for the long rant.

It is a better deal with the 5% cash back then the buy 10 program.Only 4 or 5 percent of pals customers used the program. Now every thing you buy goes to the 5% cash back. And every time there is a gas hike the cost of dog food goes up and the quantity goes down.NOT PETCOS FOULT

Petco rip off

I purchased a $100 pet gate at the Orange CIty, FL PetCo . The gate didn't work for me so I took it back the next day and the clerk remembered me. However, I couldn't find my reciept so her manager refused to refund my money and gave me a gift card instead. I told her nope, it was on a credit card so it is easily tracked just refund my credit card. She refused with a little smirk and walked away. Oh and by the way, I found a better quality gate that actually works for under $50 at Home Depot. So, unless you want to be ripped off, pass by the Orange City, FL Pet Co.

Most item like dog doors and pet gates that are also available home depot are going to be cheaper, petco has a outrages mark up on a bunch of its products. Some of the stuff we sell is marked like 80% or higher. To get an idea find a product in store and then look up that same product on our online store, the online price is almost always lower than the store price and is about what petco actually paid for the product.

Petco poor customer service

Today I went to Petco in Coralville Iowa to purchase cat food. I have repeatedly requested cases of Royal Canin Adult Instinctive to be ordered. I will be told it will be order and available in 3-4 days. When I return there continues to be a very few cans on the shelf, and no ordered cases. Once again, I'll be promised it will be ordered and available in 3-4 days. This has been going on since February when I began introducing my 3 Persian kittens to adult food. I returned today, there were 12 cans on the shelf. I asked if the cases were order and told no. I asked to speak with the manager who identified herself as "Leslie" and refused to provide a last name. She was very rude. She display no concern for the repeated failed promises to make this product available as request/promised, excessive number of trips to the store only to find the product not order and available as promised. She in fact LIED directly to me stating she orders the food and I am at fault for not picking it up. I shared I can order the food online and have it delivered to my door but would prefer to support local business. "Leslie" didn't show any commitment to her local store nor employing company, she simply conveyed she can care less if she follows through on ordering requested products, offends customers or loses revenue for her store/company. Not once did she seem to acknowledge failure to follow through with making her store product unavailable impacts the nutrition of the pet which is suppose to be an area of strong commitment of Petco. This store has repeatedly shown incompetence at customer service in this area without regard I have been a regular customer purchasing $200-300 food at a time from this store when feeding kitten food. I am a pet parent who excessively overindulges my cats. Petco has been a beneficiary of this over indulgence. I have worked harder at keeping myself a customer of this Petco store than this manager attempted in 5 minutes of time. "Leslie" was without concern for business nor pet, let a very good customer leave with a commitment not to return. Additionally, I am a Marketing Billboard for the Coralville Petco and Petco in general. My Marketing Billboard message is: Irresponsible, Poor Communication, Lack of Commitment and follow through, Places Pets at Nutritional Risk by inconsistently making food products available even upon request.

I would say poor customer service times a million! They have an employee at one of their Austin locations with a shaved head. You tell me what his hair style means when he told my 58 year old mother to get of his store in front of my 8 year old nephew because she wanted ot buy him a fish to add to his fish tank, but not another fish tank. Does it seem like it's just one employee? So far no one including store manager, district manager, and main head quarters has addressed the issue. How would you feel if it happened to you? This guy seemed to have a problem with old middle eastern women, but I guarantee you go into one of their other stores and they don't' like you for another reason you will never get an apology or respect! Oh and go buy a small bird from them, they grab it by it's tail feathers and throw it into a card board box. They don't care about people or animals just money!

Most of the time when a product is ordered for a customer it falls on petcos distribution center as to wether or not it gets shipped. The stores have very little control over what happens after the order is placed, and the distribution center doesn't give a rats ### if it was meant for a customer. Sometimes when we order things it takes weeks to get it no matter how many times we place the order. Petco is like 2 different companies in 1, the store side and the corporate side, and unfortunately the corporate side does little to nothing to help the store side.

Petco animal abuse

I am writing to complain about your store in Vestal NY. They are victims of the floods up there, an area that sees flooding frequently. Does Petco not have a policy to move it's animals to a safer area in the event of a storm or other natural disaster? This store ended up flooding and no one made an attempt to have the animals fostered or sheltered so many died after being in the flood waters for days. There is already a call for boycotts for Petco but this, not making any attempt to get animals to safety takes the cake. Very sad. I will not be shopping at any Petco and will make sure that friends and family do not either. I am sure Petcos employees feel terrible about what happened but there should have been an emergency plan in place to foster and shelter animals when facing a natural disaster of any sort.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Do not take your pets to PetCo in Harker Heights for grooming services. I took my great pyreness mix there to get groomed. Those of you who are familiar with the breed, know they have very long (6-8 inch) curly hair. He used to love to be brushed, but after this encounter with the head groomer if you approach him with a brush or even brush your own hair in his presence, he tries to bite. Not a simple nip, to draw blood. While on a visit to PetCo after the incident with the groomer, to buy other products there, the head groomer walked toward him and he tried to bite her, and he doesn't bite, he likes everyone.
Now in order to have him groomed for about $70.00 is is costing me $176.00 because he has to be sedated. There lies another problem, because he could die from sedation. During the short time he is sedated he has to be shaved, because it is nearly impossible to try to brush him out in a short hour. The loss of hair on his body aslo requires us to put sunblock on him and not let him out during the day cause he could go blind.
Of course he no longer goes to PetCo and it would be wise for others not to use them either, god only knows what type of abuse your animals are going through. We believe she hit him with the brush. Three of my friends who have used PetCo have had similar experiences with their animals and no longer use PetCo. The manager said he refuses to fire her because he has got no other complaints. Below is a picture of my dog prior to being groomed and then one of what he looks like now since he cannot be brushed.

He doesn't look matted at all.
I'm guessing they mean he may go blind because they have to keep the fur trimmed on his face as well so he has no protection against the UV rays. Not sure how you missed that but all righty.

OP, hopefully your dog gets better with grooming. I recommend getting him used to the brush again. Take out the brush and treat him when he sees it (do this before he has a chance to nip or anything otherwise you would be rewarding his trying to bite). After he can see the brush without freaking just put it on him without brushing and treat him again. Continue along this path until he is used to being brushed again. It's a long and annoying process to undo trauma but it's worth it to have him comfortable again.

He doesn't even look like a Grt Pyr. His coat looks pelted in the picture too. Did you tell the groomer not to shave him even if he was pelted like that? Demating a dog can be very painful. She may have done nothing abusive but follow your instructions as best she could. Just throwing this out there cuz something doesn't sound right. Also, how do you figure shaving a dog can make him go blind? Now, that's a new one to me! LOL Any other groomers have input here? And let me tell ya, $70 for a grt pyr is dirt cheap!

Petco kitten

Recently I have purchased a kitten from Petco. He looked completely normal, and i paid 150$ to take him home. I took him to the vet within 24 hrs of purchasing, he had giardia and coccidia (worms) I was fine with paying for the medicine, but then a week later the kitten continued sneezing, and starting losing a patch of fur above his eye. I took him into the vet again, and after 150$ i was told he has a form of ringworm, ear mites, and slight upper respiratory infection. I am pissed. First of all, why is there not a disclosure that i might be taking home an extremely infectious pet? and Second, if the vet did a basic check up, what is the point of taking the kitten in? I have other pets that may be affected although i kept the kitten secluded, so far i have spent over 500$ on this. I am an animal lover, but i cant keep paying out of pocket for a pet, and for treatment for other pets. Please any help would be appreciated.

Petco injured pet

I seriously don’t get paid enough for my job. I work in the grooming department at Petco which isn’t so bad…until yesterday’s freak accident! This grungy, oily haired 40-something man comes into to the store to get his dog’s nails clipped. The dog looks like a black lab mixed with something, fairly normal sized. Well, turns out it was mixed with a rottweiler! Seriously…YOU try clipping this dog’s nails! It was going fine until I got to his back paws…I don’t know what I did, but the next thing I know, this dog has turned on me and taken a HARD bite on my left ear and jaw! Blood? Yes. Pain? Oh heck yes! Don’t worry…since it’s a part of my job, I CAN’T sue them…just gotta suck it up and look like Mike Tyson for a few weeks.

For future reference, PetCo will supply you with the "groomers helper". If you had used that and turned the feet back instead of clipping from the front, the dog would not have reached you. Also, always ask for help from another groomer or salon mgr when dealing with a dog like that. If you ever get a bad feeling about a dog, you have the right to refuse it. It is in the policies. I would suggest using a muzzle for added protection when you are unfamiliar with a dog that can do damage to you.

Did you go to the Dr? If not, you should. Here in Fl if the man couldn't show proof of rabies his dog would be held for ten days for your protection. You may not be able to sue them but that's why we pay into workman's comp...I hope you went to the Dr on there dime as you are entitled to it.
Oh I'm a groomer, too and my boss thinks she hired us as "independent contractors", which we aren't as she takes out for taxes and such . She also thinks if we are injured we are on our own but she is in for a big surprise if that happens
Please reply back as I am really interested in the outcome

Petco service

Every time I go into this store, you always have a problem getting help. I am a disable person and I have to limit my time standing especially in a store with no handicap cart. I was asked for help on entering, showed me that item and then disappeared off. The line was about three people and I neede help, I spoke loud that I needed help, I was ignored. As pain got worse in my leg and hip I started panicking and had to stream out loud again louder that I needed help. There was two offices to the left a gentlemen come running then but also some other man came out went to the other office I gather to talk about the incident when I streamed out and was laughing to some one in office. I think that was very rude the way handicap is treated.

I agree with the above commenter. Do you have access to mobility aids? If you require a personal shopper to help you, perhaps it would be a good idea to mention it when you walk in.

To be the devil's advocate, maybe the worker thought that you had what you needed and no longer needed help. Did the worker leave you to cash out customers who had been waiting longer?

Petco horrific experience

My little dog was taken to Petco in Seekonk, MA to be groomed. The usual groomer was not available so I booked the appointment with a different groomer for that day.

At pick-up time the groomer handed me my dog over the counter. My dog seemed extremely distressed crying and squirming in my arms. I asked the groomer what was wrong with my dog and the groomer replied: “She is such a Drama Queen!”

Upon arriving home my dog would not move from where she had been placed. I examined her more closely and found what looked to be an enormous dark bruise covering almost the entire left side of her tiny body!
I brought my dog to the vet but because of Petco’s failure to provide information as to what caused this horrific injury; the doctors and surgeons caring for my dog have had to guess at the best way to treat her wound.

(At first diagnosis the injury was thought to be caused by blunt force trauma, however the consensus leans towards a burn or even a combination of the two due to the large amount of skin death that has since occurred.)
My dog has undergone four surgeries in a few short weeks after being groomed at Petco. She will forever live with the physical scares and I will live with tremendous guilt for trusting Petco with my precious companion.

*The groomer is still employed at Petco. The insurance company representing Petco said that they will be investigating the incident to see whether or not Petco should be held responsible for my medical costs.

Even more troubling is to not know what happened to my little dog and could it happen again; Maybe to your pet?

Petco business ethics

I worked at the Mtn Home store for about 2 days. I was hired as a groomer. The first day was pretty hectic and unorganized, but I thought that was just because I was new. The second day, I came in to work and no other groomers were there. There was a bunch of customers waiting to pick up their dogs from grooming that hadn't even been done. I was also expected to bathe and groom 10 in 3 hours which really is not possible. I asked the floor manager for help and guidance and he told me to just deal with it. He doesn't oversee the grooming dept, so it's not his problem. Well, Mr. Derek Larsen, it's not my problem anymore either becasue I just walked out that day. What a horrible company to work for and a terrible place to take your pets to be groomed. No help for the brand new groomer but other store employees walked around with thumbs up their butt looking for something to do. I won't even ever shop there again. This store needs to close down! I have also reported animal abuse at this store (with pictures for proof) and I really did not see much improvement. There are still alot of sick and dying animals and they just feed the sick ones to the ok ones all the time even though they supposedly fired other employees for the same thing. BOYCOTT PETCO!

I worked at a PetCo. store in Washington and quit 4 months later. The attitude of the store manager toward the customers and the low wage, untrained employees was shocking. Even more shocking was the way the regional manager tolerated and rewarded her for it.There was no regard for the condition and well being of the animals in our care and on most days all of the fish tanks were closed for "observation".If this was a private citizen treating animals like this the local Animal Control would be called and all animals would be removed from the premises and someone would be brought up on charges of animal abuse.

Petco discrimination

I had a horrible experience at petco on milpas st.in santa barbara california. I called to make an appt for my rabbit to be groomed and I was told they didn't groomed rabbits but they would clipped his nails off and that no appt was required but to be there before 7pm so I. Requested to leave worked earlier from work. I was at the store at 5:40pm and explained the groomer was I was told over the phone.she had a nasty attitude and never even had eye contact with me at anytime.she told me she was already late with other costumers poodles and that was really a priority and not my rabbit of course! She descriminated an animal for another..so how can they called themselve a pet store? I spents hundres of dollars monthly and this is what I got from them. I complainted to the manager which he listened to me but never called me back since beginning of january. This is a red hair lady which treated me with so much discrimination and disrespect.

Petco horrible grooming

I had taken my dog Charlie to Petco many times, so the last visit there I was very confident that he was in good hands. They took over 5 hours to cut and bathe him, and when I picked him up they acted very cautious around me. When I got home, Charlie was very skittish and had several cuts and knicks all over his little body. I had never had a bad review of his behavior before, so I'm not sure if it was him or the groomer. But I will never take him to the Petco on N Rock Rd again.

I recently brought my Shih Tzu in to Petco to get groomed. I requested that they keep the fur semi-long, and said that I didn't want it to be shorter than a few inches. I came back a few hours later to find my dog COMPLETELY shaved. There were never any mats or knots that would force them to shave my dog, and when I complained that I specifically requested that they leave at LEAST a few inches, they checked with the groomer who claimed that I wanted the dog shaved. I had stood behind the counter, and watched the girl write on a piece of paper what I wanted. When I requested that they at least give me a refund for the horrible grooming job, they refused.
The groomers at Petco can do one thing right; shaving a dog, even when the owner specifically requests that they don't.

PetCo groomers are not well trained unless they come that way from a prior position. You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to PetSmart. At PetSmart, bathers must work as such for 3 months, at which time it is decided if they are eligible to go to Academy. Not everyone gets to go. They are in a course for 4 solid weeks then return to the home salon to groom 100 dogs under the watchful eye of the salon manager. They do not groom on their own until the skills are in place. Safety is strictly enforced. I have worked at both PetCo and PetSmart as salon managers and there is no comparison. PetCo is a horrible company. PetSmart is well run and people are treated with respect. You know PetCo but sorry, not PetSmart.

Petco/petsmart groomers are just cashiers who have been given a set of clippers and a crash course in cutting hair, just like their dog trainers. The ### that the company teaches them is the same ### you can read in a grooming or dog training book and learn to do yourself. I know this because I'm a manager at petco. Best bet is to make sure that the groomer was trained outside of petco and has worked at an actual quality salon. It is possible that the groomer who did the groom was having a bad day and let it affect her work. We see it all the time, groomers are the most overly dramatic people I have dealt with.

Just a suggestion: When you find a groomer you feel confident in, request that person every time you make an appt. Don't leave your dog up for grabs. There could be new groomers at any time and they may not know your dog or have much grooming experience.

Groomers are human. There could have been a lack of communication between the person that checked your dog in and the actual groomer. The groomer that will be tending to your dog should always be the one checking the dog in and speaking to you. The groomer should do an evaluation of the condition of your dog and the temperment and discuss it fully with you. That being said, some PetCo's are better than others. Depends on the salon. PetCo has a hard time keeping salon mgrs because they are not paid properly and the corp finds every way it can to keep the hard earned money. I would venture to say that employee morale is not good there.
One good thing- hair grows back. Be patient and the coat will be beautiful again.
