On June 25, 2025 a member on Nextdoor was indefinitely suspended (case number 22466236) for comments made in support of the incumbent mayor of her community in the upcoming local elections. Her comments presented an alternate view of posts which were disparaging the incumbent mayor for something that happened back in 2014 in an attempt to publicly shame him using a very fuzzy old video. Some of the posts on that general thread appeared to be attempts of election interference by telling people on Nextdoor who lived in the community that they were not allowed to vote because they lived outside of the voting district. This was deliberate misinformation which she, along with others, rightfully refuted.
Although her posts remained civil and factually based, the responses she was subjected to were both vulgar and vile, shaming her and making her feel unwelcome and unsafe in her own community. This was a direct attempt to silence her via bullying, harassment, public shaming and intimidation. This type of behavior and language are a direct violation of ND guidelines. Yet SHE was suspended. I ask “Why?”
Those reporting her also insinuated that she was not a real person claiming she was a bot and asked that all other like-minded participants report her as being a bot to get her removed from the ND platform. They even accessed her profile and took screenshots of many of the other groups revealed there, some of which access intrastate members, which has no bearing upon her geographic location and does not present any evidence which can or should weigh into her participation in those groups. I assure you from personal experience this member is NOT a bot.
If one cannot voice facts and/or opinions which differ from others without fear of suspension under ND guidelines, if and when taken out of context with the entire thread, then “gang reporting” based upon prejudicial and falsified allegations are essentially being given greater weight in decisions made by ND moderators and/or local Review Teams. This member, for simply voicing her opposing opinion in the defense of the incumbent mayor in the upcoming election, was targeted by a coordinated coalition of personal attacks where she simply refuted falsehoods, misinformation and potential libel being spread on the Nextdoor platform against the local incumbent mayor. She was targeted, bullied, harassed and reported as a bot using false pretenses in a retaliatory and deliberate way to get her removed, which unjustly resulted in her being suspended indefinitely.
I question whether this is a coincidence and ask that you consider the likelihood that others are being similarly targeted in this area as well, as being falsely reported for being a bot or not living where they show to be living.
Kindly respond with some clarity on the guidelines and reasoning applied to the decision for this member’s indefinite suspension. I strongly believe this requires an in-depth investigation regarding those who participated in the specific general thread resulting in this outcome, what was said by others and of those who reported this member based upon political bias, public shaming, misinformation and harassment.
Thank you for your consideration, time and effort. It’s vitally important that decisions be made thoughtfully and with due process to individual cases. I don’t believe ND can or should blindly accept the words of “some” in order to disregard and penalize the words of those who choose to speak up in opposition to organized coalitions, no matter on which “side” of the political spectrum they embrace.
Desired outcome: This member should be immediately reinstated as should all others in a similar situation.
