I recently completed the Discovery tour of Scotland, leaving the USA on April 7 and returning on April 20, 2026. The first hotel was nice; while the the Glenburn room seemed ok, the heat was not controllable and exceeded 80 degrees. The toilet also ran continuously. I was informed that no repair person was available for several days. My husband and I were only permitted to change rooms the next morning, which totally embarrassed us as we were forced to hold up the entire tour bus for us to move our things out of one room and into another. We were unable to sleep that entire first night in that hotel, and were exhausted and unable to truly enjoy the day of touring. Then, the next hotel room was so disgusting that both my husband and I became ill; we were forced to stay in a room with mold growing in the bathroom on the walls and shower; mold growing on the bedroom walls and around the entire windows; ripped sheets; holes throughout the walls in the bedroom and bathroom areas, as well as the hallways; ripped sheets and linens; a clogged shower head that only allowed for a dribble of water to come through; stained and ripped carpet; etc. No one would give us a better room. I spoke with a man who said he was the manager about all of the problems, but according to the next person with whom I spoke upon returning from the daily tour, he never even put notes into the system. The employee at the front desk was rude and insulting to me when I asked if I could at least have a sheet that was not ripped so that I could make my own bed and some clean towels; she said this was not her job as that was for housekeeping, which was not available. Both my husband and I developed a very bad cough, and I a rash; the Cough continued throughout our trip and continues to linger. I was forced to buy a lot of medications to calm the cough; I am asthmatic and the mold seems to have triggered this condition as we were both very healthy until forced into this room. We have been regular travelers with Gate 1, and have never tried to gain help while on a trip. The conditions of these hotels were not what we expected of Gate 1, and certainly not the upper quality hotels promised for the expensive price we paid for what we understood would be upgraded hotels with your Discovery tours. We expected Gate 1 to help us while on our trip, and certainly to contact us upon our return, showing that you value our business, but Gate 1 has done nothing. We know we are entitled to be accommodated, and await your immediate response. What occurred in totally unacceptable. We have recommended your company to many friends and family members, and expected far more out of Gate 1 than what we have experienced with this recent trip. As we are now planning to book fall travel, Gate 1 will not be among our considerations unless something is done to show that Gate 1 appreciates how wrongly we have been treated and that what we paid is not what we received.
Desired outcome: Be accommodated for the horrific hotel experience and misrepresentation of what the hotel accommodations would be with your Discovery tour. I previously provided by e-mail some of the photos.
