I had to write this review as soon as possible, even before my stone is fully set, because I am beyond impressed with my experience with Distinctive Gem and Jonathan, the owner.

Honestly, finding the perfect engagement stone was a nightmare for me. I spent months researching and exploring, but then I discovered Jonathan and everything changed. He's a complete gem, pardon the pun.

You see, there's so much information out there, and too many people selling their mediocre stones without regard for your experience. But Jonathan was the complete opposite. I emailed him in desperation because I needed a real person to help me, and he was quick to respond, with a personalized video even! It was like having a trusted friend guide me through the process.

Every silly question I threw his way was met with friendly replies and helpful information. He was patient with me and didn't make me feel rushed or like I was an idiot for not knowing everything about diamonds. And the customer service! Oh boy, it's the best I've experienced in a very long time. He ensured my stone got to Australia in no time, efficiently and without any hassle.

Now, let's talk about the stone itself. It's an August Vintage OEC diamond and it's the most incredible thing I've ever seen. When it arrived, I couldn't take my eyes off it from every angle. It's simply stunning, and I can't wait to show it off to everyone.

Next up - the design process was a breeze! I told him what I wanted, and within a couple of days, he figured out a 95% design I was happy with! Then, only in a few more days, I had the final design and waited for the ring to arrive at my door!

When it finally arrived, it was worth the wait! A sparkly and brilliant oval diamond that beats all the other diamond rings out there! I gotta say, I was pretty blown away by my experience with Distinctive Gem and the amazing work they did on my ring. Jonathan, the man behind the magic, was just incredible to work with. I had been eyeing those sweet AVC diamonds for a while, but I had no idea that the guy behind them would be such a great human being. I called him late one Saturday night (like, 9:30pm in New York - don't judge me) and honestly didn't expect him to pick up. But he did! And he was at a frickin' sushi bar, no less. I told him I wanted to work with him and he got the ball rolling right then and there, on his own personal time. What a legend.

From the very beginning, Jonathan struck me as a super chill dude who's all about being helpful and trustworthy. And when it came to designing my ring, he was on top of everything. I was seriously stressing out about whether to go with diamonds or moissys for the AVCs (I never even knew moissys were a thing before this), but thanks to Jonathan and my girlfriend's expert advice, I went with the moissys. Plus, getting a 3ct diamond AVC would've taken forever. The final ring ended up being a 1:1.1 AVC cushion with two OEC round 5mm moissys on the sides. And let me tell you, these stones are cut so perfectly that they sparkle in a way that almost no others do.

What I loved most about working with Jonathan was how seriously he took every detail of the ring. He pulled up like 20 different views of Megan's ring just to make sure we got all the ratios and stuff just right. And let me tell you, it shows. Man, this guy is something else. We're talking about someone who's able to take your vague ideas and get a 3D mock-up of it that actually looks like something you could touch. What's more, he's got the patience of a saint; we must have changed our minds more times than we could count, and he was always there to offer his opinion and advise us on what could work and what couldn't. It's like he's got some kinda sixth sense for these things.

Look, let me tell y'all - we shopped around, like anyone else would, and everyone else outsourced their CAD designs which meant we were talking to someone different every time, and sometimes new folks were joining the mix halfway through our discussions. Talk about a recipe for confusion! But Jonathan was there for us through the whole thing and that just made all the difference.

Now, I'm no expert (far from it!), but Jonathan was really cool about explaining the whole process of choosing a diamond - he even has helpful videos on YouTube that make it easy for a layman like me to understand. It was great having him around to make sure we don't fall prey to any diamond-peddling tricksters. And since he verifies every diamond he sells, we felt even more confident in our purchase.

How The Whole Deal Was Done:

Most of our conversations were over chat, which was cool - we were able to send each other images of things we liked and didn't like, and he was always super prompt in his replies. But let me tell you about my experience working with him. While I was totally in love with the Opulence Oval, the biggest problem was the cost. I didn't have all the money upfront, so I had to put some money down first and make payments. When I finally decided to return the stone, the return process was tricky. Although Jonathan had clearly indicated on his site that I was responsible for paying for returns shipping, he insinuated that he could provide a return shipping label at his cost. But when I received my refund, it wasn't the full amount because he'd taken out the shipping costs. I was totally bummed out because it seemed like I'd wasted my money on nothing!

Look, I get it - shipping costs money, and Jonathan had spent a lot of personal time helping me with my purchase. But I still lost around $200 due to shipping and transportation costs, and that really impacted my experience. Don't get me wrong, I still think that Jonathan's diamonds and service are great - but only if you're sure about what you want! If you're not confident, there are so many other retailers out there who offer free returns shipping. So, if you know for sure what you want, Jonathan can definitely hook you up!
