How responsive is Wegmans Food Markets's customer service?

Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Wegmans Food Markets handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Wegmans Food Markets and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Wegmans Food Markets horrible coupon policy

Don't shop at Wegmans if you don't want to deal with their idiotic coupon policy. They only allow you to use FOUR coupons per person per day. I tried to use more than 4 and the cashier had to call the manager. Then the manager had to find out information about their limiting coupon policy. Meanwhile the people who were behind me were moaning and groaning because the manager was taking so long. Finally after being embarassed by the Wegmans staff I was told I could only use four coupons. I will NEVER shop there again.

Wegmans Food Markets cashier in handicap lane

Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), I need to use the electronic cart and will also use the handicap lane to get serviced. I noticed the cashier was curt and said to me if was planning on paying for a fruit tart cake I left in the cart since the belt was full. I explained that I was leaving it for last since it was delicate. She took it from the cart scanned it and put it to the side. When finished she sarcastically reminded me of the 15 item limit. It was then I understood her snarky interaction. I asked if that was the reason for her negative tone and I had never had a problem before being slightly over the limit. Especially, since no one was behind me. I had a problem with my debit/credit card and she appeared to take great pleasure in stating and immediately sent a cashier to void my transaction without providing me an opportunity to follow up with alternatives. In the past if I have experienced difficulty with the transaction, the cashier kindly informs the head cashier which usually allows for time to rectify the problem. I was then ushered to the customer service with the cart. It this interaction that I find to be below the Wegmans standard when treating people with kindness and dignity. Living with RA is hard enough to live with on a daily basis and when in Wegmans I have had nothing but the best treatment until today. Cashiers that are not willing to display kindness and compassion should not be part of the Wegmans team. Instead today I was treated as I was going to shoplift an item and then ushered quickly to customer service upon my debit/credit being declined which was meant to "shame me". There is no reason to make someone feel this way especially when given an opportunity to rectify the problem within five minutes.

In short, I write this because I strongly believe I was treated in a crude manner due to my invisible disability Rheumatoid Arthritis also because of the color of my skin. This is below the Wegmans standard of service and highly disappointed in having people like that work for a company of high excellence. I sincerely hope that this cashier is provided with diversity training to help her better work with diverse population of handicap and minorities.

It had nothing to do with your disability and everything to do with the fact that you insisted on using an express lane with more than the stated number of items.

Wegmans Food Markets customer service

The Wegmans Mt. Read location is probably the most unprofessional store I think I have ever shopped at. Almost every employee there is rude & miserable. The attitudes, demeanors & behavior I see every time I go in there are absurd. I can count on my one hand the amount of employees that are friendly & pleasant to deal with. Today was just one of many horrific visits I have experienced in that store. I had an older gentleman(Tall/bald-Unfortunately did not get his name)in the frozen vegetable department tell me to move out of his way so he could continue stocking his product. Whom in which was chatting with another younger gentleman about divorcing his wife & how bad of a mood he was in today. Very inappropriate & personal conversation to be having out load around customers. Mind you I had my 8 month old daughter with me trying to tend to her & juggle putting my groceries in my cart all while he was impatiently telling me to get out of his way. Last I checked it's the employee that accommodates the customer not vice versa. And to top that off, neither associate greeted me with a simple hello or asked if I needed help with anything. They both went about their business small talking about their home lives. Pretty typical of that place I suppose! As I moved on throughout the store continuing my shopping I stumbled upon one female in particular that works in the coffee shop. Her name is "Saphire". She is always in a bad mood. I approached her counter as she was staring off in space trying to ignore me. She then quickly looked at me & said "Hi" with an attitude. I then proceeded to politely ask for a small cup of coffee-She instantly shifted her head at me & very rudely replied with "What"?! I then repeated myself & she assisted me as if I was bothering her for purchasing a simple cup of coffee . Essentially making her "work" & doing what she gets paid to do. Her disposition through the entire transaction was awful. She was rolling her eyes & shaking her head back & forth. I told her I didn't appreciate how rude she was being to me & she then proceeded to bicker with me, arguing very aggressively with me, countering everything I would say to her. She made me feel extremely uneasy. After the interaction ended I walked over to fill my coffee cup where she made her way over as well minutes later laughing at me & talking under her breath, raising her voice at myself, mother & baby. During all of that I was also being uncomfortably stared at by another employee named "Lyndsey" or "Lindsay" working at the catering desk who chimed in throwing a rude comment at me making me feel more disrespected. At that point I felt extremely insulted & embarrassed & I felt I had to escalate their behavior. In passing, I stopped another associate asking to speak to a manager. A front end supervisor named "Krystina" or "Krystine" was called to my request, Whom quite frankly was not very professional or empathetic either. I explained the situation to her & she really didn't seem too concerned or willing to rectify my negative experience. She didn't have much to say, really nothing of value except that said she would follow-up with the head chef...Whatever that meant. In my opinion she was not "manager material" & didn't have the knowledge or experience to know what to do for me. Long story short I left the store in complete disgust, never wanting to step foot in there again. For the amount of money they charge for their food, you would expect to get treated with a great amount of respect, like a valued appreciated customer. With the amount of employees they have operating that store you would think the customer service would be top notch. But instead it's well below mediocre at best. So to the above supervisor who told me "We pride ourselves in customer service"-No you certainly do not! And to their infamous receipt motto that says "Everyday we do our best"-So far from the truth! Practice what you preach Wegmans! You're giving yourself a bad reputation & hiring the wrong people to represent your name! At the end of the day, we as customers who give our business, our hard earned money to their company, are why they all have jobs. We are the reason they get paid. So with all of that being said, Wegmans needs to step their customer service up big time & start treating their clients like we matter instead of just another dollar sign.

I am just humilated at the way I was treated at this Westwood Wegmans store and will not go back. Please train your staff on humility, mindfulness, awareness and how to treat other human beings with kindness. And, while you are at it, please train them fully, on EBT cards. I can not believe it took 3 people and 20 minutes of comments, by cashier, Asst Manager and Amy, ? store Mgr on 1/15/16 to use an EBT card, Amy accusing me ' you must have no money on the card, that is why our store did not take it'. Just embarrassing. Awful. So, story is above. But, i will not go back. This is the 2nd time someone at this store did not know how to process the EBT card. And called Store Mgr and corporate to complain. I go to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Stop n Shop, with no problem...why submit myself to this? No need. Just sharing one story, but boy oh boy, no mindfulness here.

No respect and no training for customers with an EBT (old term was food stamps), card. I was there Jan 15, 2016 at Westwood store. Cashier did not know how to use EBT card ('i hate these cards, they always give me trouble'), and she got anxious. Training issue, not a 'card issue'. Then, she called Asst Manager who could not ring it thru, and said ' i hate these EGT cards' (i replied' they are EBT cards, and could you possibly lower your voice as know 3 customers behind me know my info' -bad enough i have to use it, but do not want everyone to know)., then, he brought Amy, store mgr over who said loud as day' ' well, you do not have any money on the card, that is why our system is not taking it'. (no Amy, there is $99 on it, take a look). So, like Three Stooges, it took 3 people to run a credit card (EBT), , which Stop Shop, Roches, Whole Food, Trader Joes use with ease when I go there. Gee, is it Wegmans? Is it Manager? is it training session? But, a cashier to state loudly' " i hate these cards', or the customers frustrated as i timed 18 minutes at this 'encounter'. Amy, telling me 'well, you must have no money on the card', (accustory not needed), or other Manager who, laughed at checkout to 2 other staff, "i dont know anything about the EGT cards'...Just just humilating, so a lack of compassion, empathy, and most of all: awareness. I will never go back. Why would I? i did call Store G. Mgr. and corporate office on 1/19/16. Read any mindfulness book. Any Wegmans, your staff clearly needs it. And i forgot to add, the guy behind me with six pack and 4 frozen pizzeas, turned to lady behind him and says' Figures I get stuck behind this lady on food stamps'. " ...just my kinda day'...#endscene.

Wegmans Food Markets rising product prices, decreasing items in stock, decreased service

stop raising prices, reducing the stock and sizes of brand itmes and replacing them with inferior items under your store name...it is obvious at my local store in Webster that you are cutting down on number of cashiers! its becoming like TOPS stores! your increasing your "fancy, " expensive line of products and cutting down on selection of regular items! you are trying to become an super upscale store and expanding your stores to wealthy suburbs on the east coast and southern USA! i amlosing much respect for Wegmans and your attention to the middle class! at one time I shopped on where else; now I use wegmans very little and need to shop at several other markets, including TOPS, Aldi's, Walmart, Hegedorns...to feed my family of 5. We are middle class...moving into lower middle class of america d/t unending exponential rising prices of everything, but primarily by Wegmans...i have kept track of your so-called "consistently low prices", which consistently RISE every 6 months to a year...yes, i have kept track and could supply you with many many items you have raised. Do you want a list of items you no longer carry, also? I have not had a raise in my job for 3 years...i have to watch every penny! my health insurance costs for my family go up yearly...you cannot blame gas prices any longer for rising costs for your company to be raising prices at the rate and percentage you do!
Pleaseforward this message to maryellen burris...i would be glad to hear her response! Orbetter, yet, to Danny Wegman himself! but im sure he doesnt get invloved w/ complaints or opinionsfrom the lowly average shopper who had been a local Rochester regular dedicated customer of his store until lately. Wegmans has joined the BIG corporation arena! bottom line =maximum profits to keep expanding! fancy, pretty, expensive prices...that's what its all about nowwith this company...
the rich get richer...that's all I can say!

Wegmans Food Markets the lack of care

To all employees of wegmans: i will always believe that one day, your store will close, and wegmans will go to some other place, the policy that concerns me the most is the fact that you cant / arent allowed to show any kind of caring and be allowed to give a hug or any kind of affection. I am betting very deeply, there will come a day, when wegmans closes and they go out of business because the employees walked away and got tired of dealing with cold hearted people. Great way to keep a business going. And the really screwed thing is they are seen as " a great place to work at"###. The day is coming where a employee will go postal and kill or stab a management person. And thats just the beginning

I go to the Tilghman Wegmans and have found too many Private label products and not enough of the national brands. I do not care for the quality of most of Wegmans private lable products. The Kashi Pizza seems to longer carried as I found out today from a rude employee. Speaking of rude Betty in the coffee stand is not up to Wegmans standards but her 'assistant' Patty sure is...

I have been on a strong narcotic for years, however whenever I try to have it filled it is never in stock and needs to be ordered. After all that the pharmacy still doesn't have it right and they have to give me one dose. I don't know if they understand that I can end up in the hospital for withdrawal symptoms. This is extremely dangerous and overwhelmingly a problem. They don't offer solutions that would be helpful. I'm going to have to take my business elsewhere if this continues!

Today i went to wegmans in wikes barre, pa. to purchase red leaf lettuce. Both the regular and organic were old limp and brown Wen i asked the older woman in the produce department about it she shrugged her shoulders and said "oh well..", abruptly turned and waled away. She turned so quickly that I couldnt see her name. She did not attempt to find fresher lettuce or anything. Very rude.

I work for Wegmans and am currently being harassed. I've brought it to the attention of management and they immediately responded and have done a great job so far dealing with the situation. Pending the outcome of the investigation of course i would have to say its been fair and impartial so far. I look forward to working for wegmans for many years to come. As to the original poster describing no affection allowed and what a terrible atmosphere it is that is just not true. We have a great and playful affectionate atmosphere except one that took it too far. I've never enjoyed a job more.

I work at the same Wegman's as you do. They have no problem with us showing affection with our coworkers, the problem is someone was recently fired for sexual harassment and that person(most likely you) is claiming that they have a no hugging no affectionate policy. The point is the person who he was being "friendly" with asked him to stop. He kept trying to get her to go out with him after work, sent her text messages, ect. It went so far that she had to get a restraining order and that person(most likely you) was fired. You can show affection, but you cannot force yourself on a person when they say no and back off, that my friend what you did is sexual harassment.

Wegmans Food Markets poor service

Only one cashier open 35 minutes before closing. The supervisor informed me that's all I should expect since they were closing in 35 minutes. There were 2 large orders in front of me and other shoppers still in the store. If your time is worth anything, the savings at Wegmans are not worth the wait.

Wegmans Food Markets poor customer service

Has anyone noticed that brand name items are disappearing from the shelves of this chain? Items I used to purchase at Wegman's because of their fair pricing are no longer being stocked in this store. One has only to walk down the aisle in any product category in this store to see how the "Wegman's" brand is overtaking the displays in most sections. This is just one issue in what I perceive to be the recent deterioration in customer care at this store. When you complain about a particular business practice, customer service either ignores your comments or just plainly tells you that you can take it or leave it. I choose to LEAVE IT.

Wegmans Food Markets epic fail

Wegmans Sucks, Can't won't operate honestly, and does not know the first thing about serving people in a restaurant environment
Over the past few years Wegmans Food Markets has tried to push into ad-hoc dine in service. I will never use their dine-in service again- nor should you here is why: The Sub Shop at Geneseo is one such example.
I was sitting there using my computer minding my own business when Rita Gibney, Store Manager comes shouting at me that I can't be here, then proceeds to try to physically intimidate me by pulling up a chair, flipping it backwards and sitting down with her legs stattling the seat of the chair. Then she tries to lean her body in to intimidate me.

There are so many things wrong with this it is hard to know where to even start:
1. Menacing, and Physically Intimidating someone is a crime.
2. I had permission to be there from the Deli Manager- whom she did not even bother to check with
3. Sitting down at someone's table without so much as a "may I sit here" especially when you do not know that person is the equivalent of being a hoodlum.
3. She proceeds to verbally harass me.
Rita Gibney is a criminally negligent store manager. Wegmans does not know the first thing about manners, ethics, or how to handle situations. And they definately can not run dine-in restaurants. If you want a coffee, sub, or prepared food go to a restaurant. Wegmans is a food store, and does an unacceptable job of in-store dining.

I am not your employee Rita Gibney, but a customer. I complained to corporate, and they admitted they were wrong, but did nothing. I followed up, and they had some guy who -surprise- wait for it- tried to intimidate me because I sent them a cease and desist letter informing them Rita Gibney is not allowed to be near me. They incorrectly thought I was still going to Geneseo Wegmans, and complained how hard this is for them. Here is an idea- if it is hard for you do not hire and keep criminals. Thanks for over valuing your brand- but no I have not been back- have not missed it- and found much better substitutes in other stores- and as for their subshop a local cafe is a much better solution. (Update) I have heard that they have sent Rita Gibney to Maryland to manage a different store. Just what Maryland needs, a violent store manager who interacts with customers. Wegmans says "Everyday you get our Best" I would hate to see what they consider their worst.

Wegmans Food Markets foreign materials

I went food shopping at Wegmans on 6/02/2011.
I found a foreign material in the Wegmans Singles, American Cheese, After I have used a few slices for my family I added to their Hamburger today at lunch, when I picked up one more slice for me I noticed a brownish material inside the cheese slice before I opened it. It was disgusting knowing that my husband and my son had already eaten the previous cheeses. I am going to the store to return the the cheese and a complaint. I had taken a tiny piece of the foreign material to keep with me and to send it to a Lab. I hope my family will not get sick from eating the Wegmans cheese.
I am very disappointed from Wegmans Cheese Brand. I am a regular customer, I shop there all the time, but no more.

Wegmans Food Markets scam

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A western New York supermarket chain is warning customers to watch out for bogus checks in the mail.
Wegmans says a number of customers have been calling in, claiming they won a sweepstakes. The checks range in amounts up to $3, 900, but also asks the winner to pay fees and taxes before it can be cashed. They're even asked to call a number to provide information.
Fraudulent checks are being floated with the name of Wegmans Food Markets Inc., the Rochester-based grocer said.
On Friday, Wegmans began alerting consumers to a scam that involves fraudulent checks bearing the company’s name in mailings.
Nearly all who have contacted Wegmans live in states outside of Wegmans’ market area, and a few live in Canada, Wegmans officials said.
The face amount of the checks is between $2, 700 and $3, 900. The letters claim the recipient has won a sweepstakes or lottery and ask the recipient to pay upfront fees, or taxes, before the check can be cashed, or the mailer instructs the recipient to call a number to provide additional information, according to Wegmans.
“We immediately notified law enforcement authorities when we became aware of the bogus checks, and the matter is now in their hands. We urge consumers who receive such a check to contact their local authorities, ” said Jo Natale, Wegmans’ director of media relations.

Wegmans Food Markets pays off employes to keep quiet

Wegmans will fire you if you say anything negative about them. They keep everything wrong hush- hush. And than they pay you to keep quiet about their stores. They have very good attorneys. We laugh when they are again name employer of the year. This is a joke in Rochester where they started. Employess are not allowed to talk to other employees about anything wrong with Wegmans because they will get fired if overheard. And once you make your 10 years they will find a way to fire you And their products!. Try purchasing a can of their chicken noodle. All broth and 1 noodle. Poor quality items with their names on it. They have gotten rid of most of the famous brands. And never buy their noodles. They get gummy.

Alex Baldwin should talk to the people in Rochester before endorsing them.

1>Asking for I.D.'s is REQUIRED by state law. Police officers are regularly sent to grocery and convenience store locations to ensure that this law is being followed. The store will not risk its license, and the cashier wont risk losing their job or receiving a fine for underage sale of alcohol. If you're in your 40's or above you've been buying alcohol long enough to know you need your I.D.
2> Wegmans didn't get rid of nabisco saltine crackers. nabisco pulled the product from the shelves while it changed both the packaging and the shape of its saltine crackers.

Wegmans brags about how great they are as a shopping experience, member of the community, and a place of employment. I can only comment on the shopping experience and do have some complaints as listed below.

1> Asking for ID's from people in their 40's and above is so ridiculous I have a difficult time talking about it. I think you do not give enough credit to your cashiers to be able to think on their own and card people that need to be carded only.
2> The continued erosion of product choices to push your own brand. A case in point is the removal of Nabisco Saltine crackers (only the number 1 selling saltine on the planet) to push your own crap and the inferior Keebler brand.
3> Last but not least is the overpriced and over sized subs that you continually push. While the subs are fine if you are a voracious eater the fact that you do not offer subs on a smaller role is obscene. You could even cut a 7 inch in half and reduce the price.

Wegmans Food Markets unprofessional security

Wegmans is very unprofessional. During the hustle of christmas week I made the mistake of shopping at this store. After an eight hour day of work I went grocery shopping picked up a few things, ordered a large sub and chinese food from the walkery. Every cashier line was open and crowded so we made our way over to the pizzaria to cash out. While there waiting I began a phone call that lasted til I was at the register. Being absent minded I forgot about the chinese food in the bottom basket and the cashier hadn't said anything about it either. Not realizing it I walked out the store with the food soon after security was yelling at me and having my boyfriend and I come back into the store. Once I was in the security office I was being told im going to be arrested. I still had 70 dollars on me that day and was more than willing to pay for the chinese food. When I said that the male security guard began swearing at me infront of another female employee who became teary eyed. The man kept swearing at me, calling me a "lying ###" and using words like "###". Even under the circumstances I was there for I found the male security guards language to be very unprofessional considering I was being cooperative and compliant. The only time he stopped speaking like that when I pulled my cell phone out and began recording the conversation. After being arrested and publicly humiliated infront other customers i was told my groceries could be picked up by my boyfriend but the security guard gave him a hard time about it even though there was a recite for the groceries in the bag. Reguardless to say I am upset this has happened and disappointed in the way the matter was handled. But just like a former Wegmans employee told me before, I'm just a quota.

Wegmans Food Markets very poor customer service

I shop regularly at the Wegmans Dulles in Sterling, VA. In late November, I was hopping with my wife at this store. We went over to the meat area and I picked up a package of 6+LBS of ground beef for 1.99LB. In the past I have had the meat counter person break up the package in into 4 smaller packages that are freezer wrapped. Never had a problem in the past. I have done this 4 or 5 times before at two different Wegmans stores. This time the meat counter guy told me wait and went into the back room. After a few minutes he re-emerged and said it was store policy not break up packages. I asked to speak to the meat manager. They made me wait several minutes before he arrived along with an assistant store manager. I told them that this has been done many times in the past. They responded saying it should never have been down in the past. They said if wanted the package broken up I would be charged a higher price. They made some lame comment about Costco not breaking up meat packages. That's why I shop at grocery store, so I can get some customer service. Both managers were rude and very adament on their stance. I got overwhelmed with emotion at their lack of empathy that I responded with profanity. My wife immediately exited the store, leaving our cart their. I latter called the store to apologize for my profanity but stated that their policy stinks on ice. The next day I called Wegmans consumer affairs and told them what happened. I was patronized by the representative. I won't shop their any more. I went to another grocery store and they were happy to package meat for me the way I requested.

During the week of new years eve, i visited your Sheridan Drive Store, as I was preparing for the New Year and had much shopping to do for my company FOR THE CELEBRATION. aLL WEEK THERE WAS HARDLY ANY PKGS OF CHOPPED MEAT, which I found odd. Upon inquiry, I was told they were out and a delivery was cmg Thursday. I visited store Thursday at 7a.m. and low and behold, thje case was filled with Ground Sirloin. I purchased three huge pkgs for our dinner to be used New Years eve the next night. Upon opening them on Friday the 31st at around 8.P.m to start my tacos, the pkg appeared a funny color, was dripping blood all over the place, and had a freezer smell to it. It actually looked and smelled spoiled. The next day I sent my husband tothe store to get a credit( Each pkg was a minimum of 17 dollars and 50 cents. My husband presented the situation to your manager Eric, who told him he would not take it back without a receipt!I never save my receipts, as i clearly have no intention of returning food I purchase, and if it is spoiled, I never ever am asked to produce one; just given the credit. Further insulting, when I telephoned Eric, he rsised his voice and said, the pkgs were labeled use by Dec 31st! I asked him why would they put something out thatwas so old without labeling it, or even discounting it if it is too old to sit on a shelf for at least a week, which i do think is customary at Wegmans. Eric began to argue with me and told me I should have looked! I tole hime I have been a Wgmans shopper for 20 years and never ever was I treated this way; I had enough faith in the meat dept.that they would not put out soon to spoil meat after 20 years of shopping in the butchery there. Eric insisted it was my fault, i should have looked and he basically hung up on me! I spend over 800 a week in that store, and even your assistant manager apologized as he knows me from shopping there almost every day. Whether I am there just once, or every day, however, it should not make any difference. I am not asking for preferential treatment, but if you look up my account, you would see what I mean about being a dedicated consumer. How dare this manager talk to my husband that way, talk to me that way and refuse to issue a credit? I was embarASSED ENOUGH nEW yEARS EVE NOT BEING ABLE TO SERVE DINNER PRIOR TO OUR DRINKS. The preparation time, ingredients for the tacos, the taco kits, soft, hard, whole wheat, gluten free beans, chips, salsa, cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, avacadoes, all bought in vain, money wasted and spent in your storeto serve this Mexican Dish to my family and friends( 15 out of town starving dinner guests, real nice, huh?) just angers me even more. I deserve my store credit, not just for the 50 dollars of meats, onions and all the above ingredients, well over two hundred dollars woth of items, not including the time and energy shopping, chopping, preping and buying mexican decorations to go with my dinner that never transpired. All I asked for was the credit for the chopped eat, but in retrospect I deserve alot more than the gift card for the chopped meat!eric needs to learn how to talk to customers and be professional as well. Everyone at this location who know what happened is equally disturbed about this. I think you should know how one overempowered individual could ruin your reputation, and chase potential and existing old timers like me away. Thank you. Sheila Bernard

You miss the whole point of bulk packaging which promotes a lot of product in a big package at a better price! Presumably, less labor and wrap were expended to sell more product thereby justifying the lower price. Asking a meat clerk to discard the bulk package altogether and repackage its contents into four new little trays defeats the whole purpose of a bulk sale! To think that you had the audacity to expect this service AND no capacity to understand or accept why it was being refused is ludicrous. Complaints like this needlessly trash reasonable policies and don't deserve the internet space they occupy.

Wegmans Food Markets pharmacy

Wegmans Pharmacy slogan needs to be changed to “Everyday you get out Best….just not today”. I must say how appalled I am in the way Wegmans Pharmacy has been treating it’s customers. Even as an onlooker I have noticed other customers being belittled and mistreated as patients being forced to accept anything and everything told to them by the pharmacy. Being certified in the field of pharmacy I know the rules and laws both state and moral for treating patients, thus I am aware of the options that are available to me as a patient. Options being withheld by Wegmans. An important prescription was not in stock due to their order being held up by a storm, and I was told they were to borrow the medication from a neighboring Wegmans to insure I would not be left without. Upon arrival to the second Wegmans, 20 miles later, I was encountered by a frustrated pharmacist yelling that the other Wegmans made an error and he would NOT fill my prescription due to insurance regulations nor lend the medication, and that I should have been notified, which I was not. Neither store would take responsibility for the error thus I was forced to go without, and to leave a pharmacy that had my medication, because he simply “chose” not to help. With frustrations flaring due to lack of reasoning behind their actions I was simply left at the counter as they walked away from me. Now frustrated to the point of tears and out of options I contacted the pharmacy manager, and a front-end manager who then referred me to complain to corporate, and so that is what I did. The physical repercussions of going without this medication was unacceptable and complaining to an email was not sufficient, so I contacted the Pharmacy to have the manager return my call to discuss the inappropriate way I was treated. In the end I voice my opinion via email to the corporate office twice, made a complaint to the front-end manager, and left a message for the pharmacy manager, in which I did not receive a response from either the local level or the corporate office, not even an apology. A company that does not accept that fact that a medication is life altering should not be in the medical customer service field. Wegmans may keep their customer’s coming back due to low prices, but their customer service is becoming even lower.

Wegmans Food Markets disgusting produce

On several occasions I have found either completely rotted fruit in the Irondequoit wegmans produce dept. I have given it to the employee on duty. I would expect them to be very concerned. Each time they just take it and never apologize. I'm talking about green moldy smushy lemons here...uggh. Rotted tomatoes with bugs all over them most recently, and in case they try to say this is bull, I could easily video it on any cell phone and prove it to them.

What is the deal. I once had to bring back a gourmet candy apple teaming with little ants inside - no they did not come from my home - one of the produce managers said "oh, that happens sometimes".

Their strawberries consistantly look like crap. One time the Wegmans big shots were in the store and one of the higher ups in the produce dept was spouting some pro Wegmans bs. He tried to tell me that he personaly inspects and eats some of the strawberries every day to see if they're fresh..bull$%^&. If he did indeed do that he would see the half dead moldy strawberries sitting there just about every day. I've even had cashiers agree that the strawberries look terrible most of the time.

When will they wake up over there ?

They also discontinue brands all the time whilst crowding the shelves with their brand...annoying.

They also seem to run out of the same things over and over again. These products remain out of stock for weeks at a time. Hello, if you're selling alot of something why not order more ?

Had raw spicy tuna (Sushi) on oct. 17, 2008.
My son (10) & i were sick for over (2) weeks.
The hospital had taken blood & told us of
Elevated levels of parasites probably due to raw fish products. I alerted wegmans because this is the only fish my son and i had for months; and we were sick the following day. The wegmans corporate office is very disconnected. They asked how my son and i were and when i told them we are still not well, especially my son, who has had vomiting and diarrhea for (2) weeks; made the wegmans corp. Office immediately go on the defensive and tried to intimidate me like i was lieing. In the past i would shop for lunch and groceries a few times a week, but now, i am not happy with wegmans and the way they approached the situation.

You don't have to drive to have identification. I know it can be a hassle but it is the law to card people and as we are a self-insured store we don't want to be liable. If we sell beer to someone without ID and something awful happens as a result - we can be held liable. We also participate in the BAR program where secret shoppers come and make sure we check ID - resulting in a pass or fail.
You should take your father to the DMV, we have a traveling DMV that comes to my town once a week and is rarely busy. A state ID card will cost about $10 and last for years. You can also use your passport or military ID if you have any of those.

Also, a little kindness goes a long way. I am a manager and can decide to skip the ID if I think you are obviously old enough. However, if you are giving my cashiers a really hard time over something they MUST do (literally can not proceed without punching a date into the register) I will smile and tell you regrettably that there is nothing I can do.

As a cashier at Wegman's, this is how it works for those oblivious to this fact:
When scanning any alcoholic products, we are given a notice on our screens that the beverages, in fact, are alcoholic. At the same time you might notice a teeny little notification that says MMDDYYYY. Want to know what that means?

That means that we have to enter in your date of birth, otherwise we can't possible sell the product. Without a license, we *can* summon a manager who can give the go ahead to request the date of birth from the person instead, but this is rarely the case.

If this didn't occur with your case, I apologize on behalf of Wegman's.

Explain to me why this is the case at Wegmans, but not at any other grocery store or liquor store that I'm aware of... You need to get a new system; it's clearly antiquated as is this absurd policy, which serves no purpose other than to piss off and inconvenience customers. I'm sorry you're in a position where you feel you have to defend a ridiculously absurd policy, because your scanning system does not prevent you from inconveniencing customers. When a policy inconveniences and pisses of customers, you need to change it and not make excuses for it. There must be a way of overriding the birth info during the scanning process... whatever, your store management needs to figure it out, because it is not a customer friendly policy.

in my state, cashiers at ALL stores must check ID's for alcohol sales whether the person is 21 or 100. If they don't, they can immediately be fired. Not to mention, if they don't check the ID and the customer happens to be a cop or someone else who goes and reports them for not checking, that store will be fined for breaking the law.

Its an annoying law, I agree. But at the same time it takes the burden of guessing the ages of customers off the cashiers.

What state is that?... I know of no state where that is the case. I can't imagine any group of legislators in any state passing such an absurd law. Give me that state -- and if what you say is true -- I will give you the dumbest group of legislators on the planet.

i think all of you guys are being over dramatic. Wegmans is an amazing place to shop and work at. the only reason they check everyones id is to be safe and make sure people that are of age give it to people that arent and that shows that wegmans cares. everyday they try to do their best and they are just people, like you and me trying to make a living. the only reason they can be moody sometimes is because OF YOU OBNOXCIOUS AND RUDE CUSTOMERS! so what if they mess uo, that just shows they are human.they arent perfect. wegmans is always helpful and nnice unlike walmart and pricechopper where they give you dirty looks and dont even help.so be lucky there is a place like this and STOP trying to get attention and trying to put down wegmans because your jealous that you dont work at a great as a place as there.all their emplyees are nice to eachother and treat everyone like family.oh and about the beer thing its a policy, a rule...a law.its a law in most states and even if its not wegmans wants you to be SAFE.someone could easily be 21, buy a case of beer and give it to minors ok so next time you go into wegmans look around and see the family

Are you serious! That's utter poppycock. There is NO logical reason to card someone who is obviously much older than the legal age to buy alcoholic beverages... No reason whatsoever. Your reasoning is wholly without merit; it lacks any foundation in sense because it makes absolutely no sense.

Wegmans Food Markets the store is always clean and well stocked, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful

When Wegmans opened a number of years ago it had an amazing impact on the quality of food shopping in the Lehigh Valley. Normally I hate to go shopping but the local Wegmans is a very pleasant social experience. The store is always clean and well stocked, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Thumbs up to a great store!

The Pittsford Wegmans is more expensive but $14 for a chicken!

The price is up at other Wegmans for the rotisserie. I won't be buying this anytime soon.
