Jackson Hewitt dishonesty; unprofessionalism

Lies. Lies... Lies!
First, here's the phone number of the ceo's office: [protected].

Jackson-hewitt staff i've encountered in melbourne, fl are among the most incompetent, dishonest, untruthful individuals i've ever done business.. Three months of calls to franchise owner "pedro" and the reply is always, "he be here next week. "

I'm still waiting, pedro. Of course, he's located over a thousand miles from the fl office!

After years of using another preparer, I went to jh because the initial preparer claimed her office supported a $30 contribution to a charity where I volunteered. After doing my return, she said her office wasn't participating. What kind of sleaze has to use a charity in order to sucker a customer?

Two years later I learn she made a $4, 000.00 error in allowing relocation expenses when I was ineligible.

Office manager at the location we visited and where we had our taxes done was not knowledgeable enough about anything. She told us that we were ineligible for an advance. That was fine. It wasn't her fault. We then asked about the $50 debit card they were offering. It took two days too find out that we were ineligible for that too. Someone else had to tell...

Jackson Hewitt tax return

I filed my tax return last year with Jackson Hewitt and was charged a considerable amount of money; I figured that the reason was because of all the itemized deductions I had, so it made sense. This year, I decided to file again after talking to a Mr. Kirby. I had asked him how tax return fees were equated, he told me that it's based on the type of form. I told him how about a single person with no dependents, he says it would be approximately $80. I thought well maybe I will file again, since I was given a $40 coupon and also because it's in the place of business where I work. I file my tax return with a Jeffrey because Kirby wasn't there at the time. A simple tax return that should have taken about 30 minutes took well over an hour and a half. I told Jeffrey that Kirby had told me that my filing would be around $80 before the coupon at the beginning of our session. Towards the end of my filing, I'm told it would be $275 after the coupon. I ask Jeffrey that Kirby told me it would be around $80 before the coupon, Jeffrey just nods he's head says no it is not. At that moment, I should have picked up my things and walked away, but I''m not that type of person who would do that. I was already losing my patience. I was suckered-in paying. My boyfriend ends up calling their customer service number and inquires on how much a single file 1040EZ would run, the lady on the phone says it starts at $35. When my boyfriend explains to her that I was charged $315 before the coupon she responds with "no, that's too much." The next day, I talk to Jeffrey, he apparently knew what was going in regards to my situation. He explains to me why I was charged so much; he says that the reason was because of a student loan interest deduction that caused the computer system to file my taxes as a 1040 instead of a 1040EZ or 1040A, which would have cost me $76 actually and not $80. He continues by saying that he shouldn't have added my student loan interest deduction. He added by saying that there was no point in doing so since the deduction was so little. He apologized and said that he would treat me to coffee to make it up. My boyfriend and I go see Jeffrey again later that day. My boyfriend tells Jeffrey how I was given one price and then given another, Jeffrey tells my boyfriend to get out of his office after my boyfriend says, "it shouldn't have been that damn much. Jeffrey starts yelling saying, " don't threaten me!" He points his in my boyfriends face and in a loud tone says how he only gets paid $10 an hour. My boyfriend gets in contact with a customer service general manger by the name of Robert. Robert is aware of the situation after my boyfriend leaves a voice mail for him. I talk to Robert two days after and explain how I was given one price and then charged another. Robert says that he would have to contact Kirby to confirm it with him. I get a call back and of course Kirby denies it. Instead, Robert offers me a partial refund and a coupon to come back. I was so disgusted when given that offer; I then proceed to ask Robert for his corporate office telephone number.

I don't have a question its more of a statement. I am very disappointed with the service that I received with my Tax Prep. The first time my wife and I went without her w2 and we were told our tax refund would be a certain amount. Her w2 was exactly the same as her last pay stub but our refund was changed by -$2500 because of a over sight on the agent...

Jackson Hewitt false information

Jackson Hewitt rep told me to file my education credit with an amendment After I eletronically file my W2. Who would have known that the IRS said they should have processed the whole return with the educational tax credit and I would have gotten my refund before or on March 1 st. Now I have to wait until May to see my education credit. Jackson Hewitt lied and said I would get it earlier! When I spoke to Linda at Lebanon office she said the IRS would have sent my return back if I filed them on the 31 st of JanuRy. The IRS said they would never send them back! I asked for half my money back for lying and she refused. ! 14 years with JH they can go to hell !

I used jackson hewitt to prepare my taxes for 2009 and have been paying for it ever since. My mother passed away that year and left me a small cd (Certificate of deposit) so I was a little intimidated about using a 1040 ez so I went ahead and paid the $200.00 to have it "professionally" done at this location so there would be no mistakes. The cd was filed...

Jackson Hewitt fees

I went to jackson hewitt last year no problems, this year the preparer didn't tell me about additional fees, we spoke 8 words during the whole time, did not even say his name, do not use jackson hewitt at all! It cost me $50.00 more than he told me. He just handed me the paperwork and after I got home and looked at it there were fees not even mentioned. Never use jackson hewitt!

Jackson Hewitt smartcard

I can not believe that I was dumb enough to do this to myself. I should have read everything about the card but the guy wanted me to hurry. He DID NOT tell me it was a loan. Did not hint at it, did not mention it. Just nothing. I had NO idea that I would have to pay back MY tax money. I am very angry, depressed, and crying. I will never ever do this again. My money has to be payed back somehow. With a part time job and bills. Jackson Hewitt you screwed me, and so many others! I will never ever go to you again. Ever.

My advice is to never get a Smart Card, or anything similar with other company's. I think it is a rip off! We work hard all year, then have to turn around and hand it over to the bank if using this card. Horrible!

Jackson Hewitt don't fall for the gold insurance and I wouldn't recommend using them at all

Had taxes figured for 2009 and bought the gold Insurance. Got letter from IRS saying there was a mistake on my return. I contacted the office that did the return and they reviewed the return and would not cover the mistake. Don't fall for the gold insurance and I wouldn't recommend using them at all.

Jackson Hewitt electronic filing of state was not filed

I filed my taxes on Jan 20th at the Main St office in Searcy, Ar. I filed electronically and got my federal check on time like I was suppose to. I seen on line where my status of my state tax said paper. I assumed it was mailed. Nobody at the office told me any different. So about a month after I filed I was looking thru my paperwork and it said the state was filed electronically. So I called the state and got on line and they said they had no info on me. So I went to the Main St office in Searcy, Ar and just so happened the lady that did my taxes was the only one there. She put me on phone with IRS and they had no info on me and then told her that. So she printed my paperwork and handed it to me in an envelope and said mail it. Well I tell you what you should have done to keep a customer but I seems like you don't care if you keep your customers. If they would have give me my $50.00 it coated to do my state I would have been satisfied but still upset because instead of getting my refund in 2 weeks it's going to be 6 to 8 weeks and I desperately needed my money. But I think y'all were unprofessional and really you should have give me all my money back and I would have been real pleased. You need to own up to your mistakes and bend over backwards for your customers or you won't be in business very much longer. But since I can't get no response or satisfaction out of y'all I will continue to write complaints all year long and tell all my friends and people I know what y'all did and did nothing about. Word of mouth travels. Sincerely, Jack

My wife and I went to JH on 2/3/2012 to have our taxes done. The preparer we got was brand new. The senior preparer on duty (Lee) started to argue with my wife about her not looking like she is old enough to be disabled (my wife has pulmonary arterial hypertension). Then proceed to rudely argue that my wife and daughter do not qualify for the AOC tax credit...

Jackson Hewitt theft

Be careful about taking your taxes to the Jackson Hewitt booths set up in the Wal-mart stores! We had a preparer at one location that took our taxes and filed them on her own system. When we called Jackson Hewitt they had no record of our information on file. The person that filed our taxes left and stole our money as well. We now have the IRS investigating where our money went. Seems that they just hire anyone off the street to do your taxes and when there is a problem you are on your own!

So, I call in to get the status of my tax return for a prior year because of an over seas government contract that other tax offices could not help me with and I was disturbed to hear this comment after my question. "Ma'am so how much will the service cost me?" she said "about $200.00" I said "Why so much; any reason why?" she said "that's the way it is." I will never do business with Jackson and Hewitt. By the way I was not pissed off or anything but when I heard that comment from a so called professional that has been doing business of filing taxes for over 12 years. I think that is poor professional skills and just flat out lazy for not even providing a customer with the appropriate answer that will keep the business reputation. I will never go to Jackson and Hewitt again and will tell others about my story. This was my first time going to this tax service and will be my last. I called the IRS and they sent me the forms that I needed and it was very easy to file. Thanks IRS, they never told me that is just the way it is. I will never ever go to Jackson and Hewitt again. First time impressions are everlasting impressions.

Jackson Hewitt amendment tax return 2009

Many complaints about Jackson Hewitt tax services. J.H. is a big Rip off. They charge the one of the highest prices for about 20 to 30 minutes of sloppy tax service. Costumer relation is bogus as well. They try to convince you that your experience is Your Fault. That is bogus crap. I arrived to the appointment after working long 3rd shift over night work. So I was very, very tired and sleepy when I arrived at the appoint. I searched around and found other services for about $95 - $175 flat fee. Jackson Hewitt pulls you in with an ad of as low as $38 dollars. That is bogus. You get there and find out it will be considerably more especially if they learn that they did not do your taxes. So you get dinged and penalized because you did not file with them initially. That is TOTALLY ###! They try to justify it by saying "... because we have to enter data into the form." Before they finish they still will have to enter data into a form. J. H. rips you off. Don't use THEM. You can do it yourself with the Tax software that comes out every year. You will be amazed at how accurate they are and are very fast and efficient. It will save you some money as well. Only use a tax service if you have a really complicated tax return.
When you are servicing your client, you do not talk to them with your back toward them and you certainly do not give the cost of service that way either. This is the ultimate of bad service. It says that we do not value your business, you are just another Sucker being gotten. And they took me for $288 for about 20 minutes of work of which a tax software made known to me that I may qualify for the tax deduction. So the software was really reliable. You would save a lot of money, keep more of your money instead of giving a good portion of they tax return that is rightfully yours.
Think self containing and do things for yourself like your tax return. If you have used a tax preparer in the pass then use that as a guide and get yourself the latest tax software and do it yourself. If you do use tax preparers use ones with a flat fee not these high price different fees for one service. Paying $500 to $1, 000 dollars or more is ridiculous if they are not getting you out of a serious tax jam, or doing a major tax over haul for a previous year or the current year. If you need that then you need a bona-fide CPA.
If you go to J.H. prepare to be handled, used, and taken advantage of. This is the first time that I ever used such a service and you better believe I will Never Use Jackson Hewitt and maybe no other tax service in the future. If I see a need only then will I consider using a tax service but with a flat rat for the tax year I need work on.

Sincerely,
Mad and Pissed Off Consumer
Orlando, Florida

Jackson Hewitt cost me $1000.00

In Febuary of 2009 I went to Jackson Hewitt inside of walmart to have my taxes done. I was expecting to pay and when the preparer (Rosalyn German) said that i am getting a refund of 577.00.

Well that did not seem right as I did self employment work to the tune of $3400.00 She told me since i did not make over 3600.00 I would not have to claim that amount. I said okay, Cool.

Well here it is 2 years later and I am getting a freaking audit notice for 2009 because of Ms. German's Mistake I went to Jackson-Hewitt so they can fix their mistake. I first went to the walmart branch and talked to Yolanda that was there showed her my letter and she started making a bunch of faces and then refereed me to the district office.

I went to the office and talked to a Brenda there and she told me that i was screwed since i did not buy there Gold guarantee. I asked to speak to her manager and her manager Paul Come out. And he even agreed that it was there fault but would not take of their mistake. So I am out a $1039.00

I AGREE WITH THE COMPLAINANT! I HAVE ALWAYS USED A PRIVATE AGENCY, NOT A CORPORATION BUT A LOCAL TAX PREPARER. AFTER SPENDING $150 A YEAR FOR A PRIVATE PREPARER TO DO MY TAXES, I DECIDED TO TRY THE ONE AT MY LOCAL WALMART THAT HAD ADVERTISEMENTS FOR THE TAXES MAKING THE LARGES ONE $40 AND SOME CHANGE FOR THE DELUXE. MAN, I THOUGHT I COULD SAVE SOME MONEY. SO I WENT TO TALK TO THE TAX GUY. HE SEEMED VERY NICE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. HE SAID HE COULD HOOK ME UP AND GIVE ME A VERY HIGH RETURN. I WAS SHOCKED. LITTLE DID I KNOW WHAT HE HAD UP HIS SLEEVE. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE CHEAP TO DO MY TAXES SO I AGREED AND SAT THERE AND WAITED UNTIL HE WAS DONE AND READY TO TELL ME WHAT MY RETURN WOULD BE. NOT ONE TIME DID HE ADVISE ME OF A ROUGH ESTIMATE OR ANYTHING ALONG THE LINES OF THE COSTS. AFTER EVERYTHING IS SAID AND DONE, HE TRIES TO MAKE ME SIGN FOR THE RETURN...WITHOUT GOING OVER ANYTHING..ONCE I ASKED FOR WHAT AM I SIGNING FOR, HE TELLS ME THE COST IS ABOUT $450...WTH? AND ON TOP OF THAT, THERE WAS A FEE FOR AUTOMATIC DEPOSIT. HE GAVE ME A CARD ABOUT THE CONTACT INFORMATION REGARDING TRACKING OF MY RETURN AND TOLD ME THAT HE WAS SENDING OFF MY RETURN TO THE IRS IMMEDIATELY. HE ALSO SAID I WAS GETTING A $50 WALMART CARD AS WELL (WHICH THAT WAS THE REASON WHY I WAS INTERESTED IN THIS LOCATION) HE SAID TO CHECK MY EMAIL PERIODICALLY FOR IT...WHICH I NEVER GOT..ALMOST A WEEK LATER AND I AM UNABLE TO TRACK MY REFUND NOR HAVE I RECEIVED MY STORE GIFT CARD..ONE THING IS FOR SURE IS THAT HE WAS QUICK IN HANDING ME $20 REFERRALS...REFER A FRIEND AND GET $20 EACH PERSON WHO USES JACKSON HEWITT..HELL NO! NOT REFERRING ONE PERSON! ALSO WHEN I GOT HOME, I CHECKED MY RETURN AND I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BACK AN EXTRA HUNDRED DOLLARS...SO I LOST $550 THIS YEAR BY SWITCHING TO HEWITT!
RIP-OFF! BEWARE!

"In Febuary of 2009 I went to Jackson Hewitt inside of walmart to have my taxes done."

I almost stopped reading right there. Why WHY did you go to WALMART to have your taxes done? For most people, the yearly tax return is the most important financial document they will encounter. Yet, I have always been amazed that people will choose to have it prepared at Walmart. Every JH I have seen in a Walmart was near the noisy checkout area. Makes no sense to me. I prefer a quiet office environment where my preparer can actually hear what I am saying. Call me crazy.

To top it off you got a bad preparer. I know it doesn't help now, but all income you receive is taxable unless exempt by law. Income from self-employment is most certainly taxable.
Good Luck and quit going to Walmart for tax prep.

Jackson Hewitt lost check

My Husband & I went to Jackson Hewitt to have Federal & State Tax returns prepared. The preparer didn't ask how we wanted to receive Federal Refund & he automatically cheched the AR box when we told him we wanted RAL he said the fee was more & it'd be cheaper AR. We told him we didnt care about higher fee but he didn't change it. on the 19th of april I called to check on the staus & was told it was at the office. we went to the same office only to find out they were closed until 1/9/2012. I called the ph #s listed on the sign & was told all Fairfield checks went to Mt Healthy office. I arrived at that office on 4/21. After looking in our file, they said our check wasn't there. the Lady checked on computer & said it was printed on 4/8 @ 2:38 p.m. She called the preparer who said everything was out of that office. She then called the person who printed the check & left a message for her. NOBODY ever contacted us to say it was ready for pick up. We had to fill out info for the bank for stop payment, copies of DL'S & fax it back to bank, which I tried from 11:15 until 3:00 pm today but banks fax was always busy. Once bank receives info, they will stop pymt on other check then reissue another one which will take longer. That $ was going to be used to pay State & City Taxes which we now owe late filing fees & penalties. They did agree to refund our prep fees but I will never use their service again.
The Receptionists were very helpful in trying to figure out what happened & try to resolve the problem.

Be careful. They can't tell you ahead of time how much it will cost to do your taxes. The computer tells them when they are done with the return. They knew it was priced by form, but didn't know how much per form. I filed a complaint because there were problems with the actual preparation and was told I would be called back by Customer Service. They then forwarded my complaint to the very people I complained about and left it for them to resolve. The resolution...your taxes were done correctly and you got what you paid for. Do your homework like I failed to do. Should never have gone there. Would have been better off (and cheaper) to buy software and do it at home.

Jackson Hewitt poor training of employees

Being that I have a college education in accounting, I thought it would be a good idea to take a part time job at Jackson Hewitt to get some experience working with taxes. Big mistake. I signed up for the class only to be told that there were not enough students to have a class so I would be taking classes ONLINE. That's right just me and a book to read and a test to take online. This is what Jackson Hewitt uses to train new employees.

Most of the information I learned in college and had no trouble passing the tests. The problem is that what the book says and what happens in reality are 2 different things. When it came to preparing taxes, I had only 3 hours of practice with the computer program that they use. And there is no grading system to determine if the "practice results" were done correctly. I felt very unprepared to assist anyone with their taxes.

There are some warning that customers need to know about Jackson Hewitt. First, the person preparing your taxes may not be trained properly or even qualified to do their own taxes let alone yours. Secondly, these people (tax preparers) are commonly paid minimum wage and work there for extra money. Third, you are not protected from fraud, lost refunds, stolen refunds or an audit even if you purchase the "Gold Guarantee". Every store is INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AND OPERATED. This means if you have issues or an audit, you may be on your own fixing it. You have to contact the owner of the franchise to have the gold guarantee claim filed for you. This is at their discretion as to whether it is filed or not. Finally, you need to be VERY vigilant with your money and your personal information. Jackson Hewitt is not required to a background check on their employees. You have no idea who you are giving your information to.

ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS! Think about the worse case scenario and ask the "what if" questions. Pay attention to what is going on during the tax preparation. Notice if the person makes a mark on each document they touch, or if they have a system of laying out the documents to ensure that everything you offer them is accounted for and has been inputted into the computer. Know your rights. Go to IRS.GOV and look up your taxpayer rights. Jackson Hewitt can not keep your tax documents FOR ANY REASON, unless you file with them; then they have to have copies. DO NOT SIGN anything until you read it. If you don't understand it, ask them to explain it. Most of all, rememeber if they screw up, YOU ARE HELD RESPONISBLE!

Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block are scams in one way or another. Be ware and know your rights.

Please do not put HR Block and Jackson Hewitt in the same boat - you are obviously not aware of the amount of training required to prepare taxes at HRB. Each tax preparer has to take 84 IN PERSON hours of tax training EACH YEAR. Not only do tax preparers have to pass an HRB test, they have to pass an IRS exam. Backgroud checks are done on ALL employees - including seasonal. Most offices have at least one Enrolled Agent, who is liscensed to pratice before the IRS. Sorry you feel that you did not receive proper training for JH, but you should have informed yourself before you made the statement about HRB. You state you have a college education, did your professors not teach you the importance of fact-checking before you make an assumption?
