Great Expressions Dental / False treatment plans

1 Lawrenceville, United States Review updated:

My family and I recently moved from MD to GA and had waited 3 months to finally get an appt with Great Expressions. When we finally had our appt, we were 3 months behind with our 6 month cleaning. After they conducted my son's exam, they informed me he had gingivitis and had 5 cavities. My son is 9 years old, doesn't eat candy, and always had his 6 month cleaning. However, he doesn't always do a good job with brushing. So, when they informed me that he needed $685 worth of dental work, I didn't question them and let the proceed. However, when I had my exam, they told me I had 5 cavities, gum disease and needed a deep scaling (totaling $4, 000 after insurance copay) - this is when I became suspicious. I had a hard time believing that being 4 months behind on a dentist appt would mean that I needed all that work. I'm in the process of getting a 2nd opinion. Please stay away from this dental office. They use very aggressive tactics to scare you - they immediatly show you a book of pictures that contain people with horrible gum disease. Stay away or get a 2nd opinion!!!

I just had exactly the same experience with Great Expressions Dental. While sitting in the waiting room, I was subjected to 30 min. of a repeating loop of oral cancer horror stories on their TV. When I was taken into the exam room, an assistant pulled out some $50 fluid (not covered by insurance) that is used to test for oral cancer and was practically pouring it down my mouth before I could put my hand up to stop her. I declined the test and received a lecture about how my health is priceless and I really should go on with the test. After endless x-rays, the dentist came in a examined and found dozens of problems with my teeth. He wanted to do a deep cleaning (where they pull the gums away) and put sealant on ALL my teeth and all sorts of other crap. I am obsessive about my dental health, every other dentist has declared my teeth to be perfect. There is no way I need all that work done. They wanted to charge me $2, 000 for a deep cleaning, not including all the sealant that I "needed". I informed them that $2, 000 wasn't financially possible for me, so I just wanted a regular cleaning for now. They refused and said that they wouldn't give me anything but the $2, 000 cleaning. I told them I was getting another dentist. I fully agree with the complaint above. Find another dentist and stay away from these guys.

After my check up with Dr. Chawla in Lehigh Acres Fl. I was told I needed 4 teeth pulled, a bridge and at least 5 more root canals and crowns. Plus the painful periodontal work on my gums. This totaled way over $10, 000 with co-pay. So I got a second opinion. None of my teeth needed to be pulled! I may need one root canal and crown but its not likely. Great expressions said that my fillings were lifting up on my 3 bottom left molars and that they all needed crowns and root canals. The second opinion dentist said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fillings and that nothing needed to be done to these teeth at all, they are in great shape. Great expressions said I had peroidontal disease and my pockets were all 4's and one 5. The 2nd opinion dentist greatly disagrees, after checking my teeth, the results were all 1, 2, 3 - no periodontal disease. Great expressions also failed to find a cavity which I even knew was there. The result -- Great Expressions wanted me to get 8 needless root canals and crowns!!! They wanted to ruin 8 of my teeth! Do not trust any of these dentist office chains, no matter what the name is, they all do and say the same thing.

At my employer we had open enrollment in Nov I had just changed to Great Expressions in Farmington Hills Mi when before I could schedule a proper appointment I woke on Dec 9 to find my jaw swollen around the jasmine but I had no pain because at the time I was being treated by my primary care doctor for sciatica in my lower back and had taken my prescription for that. I dropped off my child to school and proceeded to work where in 2 hours time the swelling now is all the way up my cheek to under my eye. I called GE the person on the line told me sounded like I had inflammation building up and I needed to take a Motrin and come in at 4pm that day because then they would have space for Me to be seen by the dentist I left work now I am starting to feel strange)went and got my son in case I needed a driver and went to GE The Entire office was flabbergasted at the distortion of my face.I was x-rayed and evaluated told my tooth was infected and cracked under the gun and needed to be extracted. I was given a 7 day supply of Pennicilln and told to take these with Motrin, stay off the next day (friday) to get some rest to let the antibiotic work and come back in a week which was the following Thursday and they scheduled me for an extraction at 4 (dec 16) well I did as told came back the following Thursday I begged for gas before the procedure but was refused so it was just the nasty red stuff and the numerous shots to numb me.Then the fun began the dentist was all in the chair with me trying to extract my tooth Finally after much "yanking and pulling" and tears from me (because she killed my soul) she got it out in 3 pieces 2 of which I was wearing that my son recovered from my sweater.I left the office went back to work the next day but I had left FMLA forms to be filled out Instead of the dentist doing the form the clerk did them and said I didn't have a serious condition (???) I went to the office to ask about it Didn't You Guys say I had an infection--yes. Didn't you guys give me a 7 day regiment of Penicillin---yes. Didn't you Guys say the infected tooth had to come out---yes But your form doesnt qualify you for FMLA ---Whattt..They called my company medical dept who went over the form with the clerk who still didn't understand and said The Dentist doesn't do paperwork so it will never be seen by the Healthcare Provider i.e Dentist who actually did the work? ??? I see I may need a Lawyer RUN Don't Walk Run Away from Great Expressions!!!

Great Expressions Orthodontic Care in Roseville, Michigan ruined my smile, they refused to remove the braces until I signed a waiver. The waiver is to prevent you from suing them. I followed their instruction but, in the end my teeth look extremely uneven and misaligned. NICOLE SIERRA OLDS is seriously the worst orthodontist. Please save yourself a ton of money, time, and heart break. Find a different Orthodontist.

The office billed the insurance and the insurance paid indicating I had to only pay $40.60. I had paid $261.00 the day of service and believed at the time that it was ridiculously high considering I had just had my father’s teeth extracted and he had no insurance and it was far, far less. Repeated calls to the office to get a refund then a visit to the office resulted in conflicting statements from the employees. The icing on the cake was a call from Great Expressions Dental Center by the rudest person who tried to bully me. Then she said that I owed $147.00 more. I am even being charged for x-rays but I brought the x-rays in with me.

I went to Expressions Dental in O'Fallon, MO the other day as a first time patient cuz I had a tooth that's been killing me. They said it was abscessed & sent me home with no antibiotics & said come back next week. The dentist bullied me b/c I said I'd rather extract a dead tooth rather than save it. It's in the way back, its not like it's in the front. So anyways, that same day, I also had a regular cleaning with them. And I've had cleanings before in the past, but never have I had this before. A day after my cleaning, my gums were red, inflamed & have abscess sores & it feels like my jaw (on entire right side of face) has been bruised. I can't even open my mouth w/o extreme pain & I can't eat or sleep. Never go to this place. It's bad! They also said that I needed 9 crowns to cover up my silver fillings when they are just fine. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Here is a letter that I am mailing to corporate:
    To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to inform you of how disappointed I have become with Great Expressions. My family and I have been using Great Expressions for some time now (at least 11-12 years) along with your Orthodontics department. Offices located in Newnan, GA and Fayetteville, GA.

The first time I had issues with the Orthodontics department located at 570 W Lanier Ave #2, Fayetteville, GA 30214. My daughter, Autumn, had to get an expander and then braces on her top teeth. I paid the up-front $500+ dollars and left my CC on file for them to us to charge $100 per month to until treatment was paid off. I can recall about 3 different times (not consecutive) where I received letters in the mail stating my account was about to be turned into collections because of non-payment. When I called the office and told them my CC was on file, they claimed it wasn’t. I told them, I do not understand how you go a few months charging the card and then all of a sudden it’s no longer there. That and the fact that my daughter saw 3 different Orthodontists within a year because others either transferred or quit.

Now, on to what really has me disappointed and ANGRY. My kids have been going to the dentist every 6 months since they were 18 months old (they are now 15 and 11). Their last appointment with Great Expressions in Newnan, located at 38 Jefferson Parkway, Newnan, GA 30263, was in February 2016, at which time my son (15 yrs. old) had a set of X-rays done. I was told that he had NO cavities and everything was fine. Their next appointment was supposed to be Thursday, August 4, 2016, however I received a call stating that they needed to cancel those appointments as they no longer had a dentist (he apparently quit). This is not the first time that my appointments have been cancelled due to no dentist…it happens way too often. So, I decided to find us a new family dentist because I was tired of all of the appointment cancelling and stating I owed money, when I didn’t, etc.

My kids first dental appointment with the new dentist was on Tuesday, August 2nd. My son (as mentioned above who received x-rays at your practice in February 2016 and the dentist stated everything was fine) had another set of x-rays done by the new dentist. My son has 8 cavities, 2 of which are so deep and may require a root canal (all of which are on teeth that your practice had filled at one time). You cannot tell me that within a 6-month time frame my son went from having nothing wrong to having 8 cavities with a possibility of 2 of those being root canals.

So now, not only am I going to have to put my child through dental work that could have potentially been prevented by your practice, I am now going to have to come up with money I DON’T have to get his treatment taken care of. I believe all of this is in part to your practice (dentist) being negligent and not doing enough to prevent this from happening.

We loved all of the staff at the Newnan location and thought our dental health was very well taken care of, but I see now that this is not the case. All I can do is hope that this is not and does not affect any more of your patients.

Thank you for your time and understanding!
