Delta Air Lines / delta connecting flight practices

We were booked on 5/5 on Delta 2373. We had connections to Delta 1275. The flight arrived late (not due to weather or traffic). We rushed to our connecting flight, to arrive 10 minutes before departure time. We were informed by the gate agent that our seats had been released 5 minutes earlier (even though our connecting flight had touched down and was at its assigned gate).

Like they say in the real world, ### happens. When it does, you are always booked on the next available connecting flight. Releasing your seats is standard practice with every airline if you don't make it in time for the check in close off. Delays are not always just traffic or weather. Mechanical issues, pilot's die (true story), passenger issues, gate issues, ATC issues etc. It is ALWAYS best to leave yourself at least 2 hours between connections.
