I have been the victim of a magazine scam perpetrated by a company calling itself US Magazine Service at P.O. Box 750 in LoLo, Montana 59847 at 888-506-8304. It and several other corporations running magazine subscription scams are run by Jason W. Ellsworth of Hamilton, Mt. I received several magazines, including Esquire from this business, despite the fact that I made it very clear that I did not wish their services and have no interest in sports, cars or soft porn. Without my knowledge, they were billing my bank card. I am a senior citizen on strong medication at the time and these people essentially conned me. I just received another copy of Esquire through this service, despite the fact that I sent the magazine an email, including links, demonstrating that they are affiliating their brands with a corrupt business, one of many created by Jason W. Ellsworth of Hamilton, Mt. Esquire did not answer. I am taking the new issue as an answer. In fact, none of the unwanted magazine answered similar emails.

I am astounded that companies like Hearst would do business with obviously corrupt companies. I searched the web and found that this guy has been doing this for years, and simply opening a new company when people start to get wise to the current one. If I can find this man and his history with a few web searches, I find it hard to believe that they are unaware of just who they are doing business with. I can only assume that this is a sign of desperation. It does seem to me that the magazine business is pretty much doomed, like newspapers, though the process will be slower and a few will survive.

I have made complaints to the relevant Better Business Bureau and am posting warnings to others on Twitter, Facebook, other social media and local Montana forums, just to make things uncomfortable for the gentleman and the people who work for him. I find that I am far from alone. If you do a few web searches of your own, you will see just what I mean. You will also note that the regional BBB rates them with an F given all the court actions and complaints.

Ellsworth who has created a companies--US Magazine Services, DBA Periodicals, Your Magazines and several companies using his initials both in Montana and Florida, where he apparently has a residence as well. The web is jammed with court actions and consumer complaints regarding his businesses.

I have the ability to get the word about the shameful conduct of this person and his businesses to a very wide audience--do not underestimate the power of the web. I hold the magazines doing business with them responsible for their conduct.

It might interest you to know that I got a call from one of the shills at Your Magazines last night, attempting to get me to stop my campaign in exchange for cancelling my account. I told them that I might--when I get a check for the full amount they charged to me.

wow funny they just called be to no bull ### they offer you this great package and they tell you that you only have to pay 49 a month for 16 months and its all sunshine after that i found this article after i got off the phone with them and i gave in like a dummy they told me i have three days to cancel and i called this they gave me 18883009445number and it was a fax machine not a phone beware im closing my bank account before it goes threw. ###ers

I outed Jason W. Ellsworth all over the web, including forums in his hometown and the Missoula area. I got the thing cancelled, my money back and an attempted apology from one of his shills. I told him that the only response I would like would be for Mr. Ellsworth to fly in, come to my front door and attack me so I could beat the crap out of him in self-defense. Since I found about the guy with a few web searches, I have a lot of difficulty believing that magazine companies like Hearst's Esquire, Car and Driver and Outside Magazine have no idea that they are doing business with a corrupt company when they deal with one of his shells. I am seriously considering putting together a web team to find and out people and companies like this.

I used to work for one of the sister companies in Hamilton Mt. It is a crock of crap. If you really want the magazines, yes it's great! Nobody complains if they want the mags but also you need to be smart enough not to give out your account information. that includes credit card numbers. they do not already have it. so don't be a ###, and don't give information over the phone to telemarketers unless it is something you actually want. and know for a fact you want it. don't let them talk you into something you have never heard of. don't be a dick about it tho... they will keep calling you until you give in.

I am a current employee and know its a load of crap but need a job till they get shut down... however i am willing to help anyone who has been sucked into their web... i work for the collections department and can do alot from back there so let me know... thanks

I lost the number and called a company that had the same name and called them. Turns out that was the wrong company and they said they would take care of it as soon as it went through. now that I have been charged a second time, i called the right company and they said i am screwed.

Do to this company I have had to cancel all of my cards. From now on the only magazines that I will buy will be from a store shelf!! These jerks don't take in to cosideration that we are hard working people that they are stealing from. I had to apolgize to my son he never recieved any of his magazines but we were charged for them. You JERKS deserve everything that is going to come to you!!!

I JUST got off the phone after an hour speaking with 3 different customer reps. i am such a dummy to fall for their scam. everyone's comments are spot on. I wasn't able to cancel during their 3 day grace period only because I was laid off and had to move out of my home. And sure enough, the 1 supervisor, 1 rep and 1 head of the department mocked my irresponsibility. Their main argument was that I was given 3 days to cancel, not really considering what happened to me. I tried to reason with the rep, and even told them they have bad service and and they're being rude. The rep that I was speaking to put the phone down, laughed for a good minute, got back on the phone and said "is there anything else i can help you with?" Unbelievable. I wasn't going to hang up but the rep did. The last thing she told me was that I pushed her -- really? I didn't want the subscription anymore after finding out this business was corrupt! So I spoke to the head of customer service and I mentioned my problem and she quickly told me "Oh yea, I heard from everybody" and I said "So you were laughing with her then" and -- I couldn't believe -- she said to me "Yes, I was laughing with her" while laughing on the phone with me! She raised her voice speaking to me and mocked the fact that my reason to cancel was because I lost my job. And even had the audacity to tell me that she expected me to comment on websites saying I wasn't given an option --- even though I never mentioned not being given any. Like the other people have mentioned, I'm going to have to cancel my bank account. I was so stupid to ever give in to this and I've definitely learned a big lesson.

I am going to support any campaigns against this business.

Today I recieved a call from an 'Unavailable' number. I answered the call, and it was from this company, Countrywide Periodicals. The girl I spoke to was named Ashley. She told me I was going to recieve a diamond watch and free subscriptions to Cosmo and Vogue magazines for 48 months, all I had to do was subscribe to another magazine, which would cost $3.83 per month. It sounded good, so I gave her my address, etc. She told me her supervisor just tapped her on her shoulder and wanted to speak to me to ensure that Ashley was providing good customer service. She handed the phone over to him, and he said his name was Kevin James. He was telling me more about what I was going to recieve. He said I could cancel my subscription at any time, and that I actually wouldn't be charged for the first month. He then started asking me for my credit card information. I was really hesitant to do this. I told him I didn't have it with me, and he asked, "What, are you afraid of giving your information over the phone?" I said that yes, I was indeed afraid to do that. He assured me it was fine and that it would be secure. Before I gave him the card number, he somehow already knew what number it started with. I asked how he got my information, and he said that the credit card companies sponsor it. Whatever that means. I was still unsure about this, and so I told him exactly that. He told me that I was going to be recieving a second call after I hung up with him, and I wouldn't be charged until I confirmed the charge during the second call. I immediately googled the company name. Not long after, I recieved the second call. The girl said her name was Jackie, and started telling me that customer service is everything and that they try really hard to provide good customer service and wanted to know if Kevin and Ashley were being friendly. I told her that I did not want to go through with the charge, and that I would like to cancel it. She immediately became extremely rude. She said, "I DONT UNDERSTAND, I THINK IM CONFUSED. WHY WOULD YOU SAY YOU WANT TO AND THEN WANT TO CANCEL IT? CAN YOU NOT AFFORD IT, IS IT TOO MUCH FOR YOU?" I told her that I just didn't trust the company, because I had been researching it online and found nothing but bad things said about the company. She then said, "WELL GOOGLE VERIZON AND DISH NETWORK, PEOPLE WILL SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THEM TOO." I told her that it still would not change my mind, so please cancel. And she HUNG UP ON ME. Before I could get a number to call or anything. She just hung up on me. Great customer service, huh? So I got a number to call through a google search, and asked to speak with Kevin James. The gentleman who answered the call, Chris, said that nobody by the name of Kevin James works there. I said, "Really? I just spoke to him. He's a supervisor." Chris then told me that there was a supervisor there named Justin. I said fine, let me speak to him. So I explained to Justin my situation. This guy was really nice, and totally on my side. He said he would reverse the charge and cancel it, and take care of the rude people I had talked to earlier. Then I asked about Kevin James giving me a fake name. He said there was a Kevin Donahue who works there, and that he would speak to him about that also. After reading online about everyone not being able to cancel their subscriptions and still being overcharged, I figured that I probably shouldn't trust that they even cancelled my subscription as they said they would. I called my bank to see if I could change my card/account numbers. They told me that I should file a claim, so I spoke to a claim representative with my bank. I explained the situation to her, and she asked me for Countrywide Periodical's number. She called them, and then told me she spoke to the supervisor, who this time said his name was Doug. She said that he would cancel everything and reverse the charges. She took notes and said that if I still get charged, just call my bank and let them know and I'll be able to dispute it. So we'll see what happens. DONT GIVE YOUR INFORMATION TO COUNTRYWIDE PERIODICALS!

They tried to call me today on my cell phone three times coming up as unavailable. I finally answered and a girl told me about the watch, the four magazines for 3.83 a week, for $16.60 a month. But I would have to pay $49.81 which would cover 3 months subscription but I would have to pay this MONTHLY for 16mos, but its for a 2yr subscription.

I told them I didnt want to give out my info over the phone but the could send me a statement with my magazine and I would pay it how I saw fit with a check, money order, online, etc.

They said they had to process this one payment of $49.81 and then next month I could pay how I want to.

I asked for their company name and phone number to call them back at a later time when I wasnt so distracted by my children. They wouldnt give me a number becuase it was a "secure line". The confirmation dept tried to reassure me by using my credit card it was safer and more secure then paying by check.

I told them then they did not have to process my order, right now I couldnt not make this decision.

I'm so glad I googled this and found this out!!!

Next time I wont be answering an "unavilable" phone call from them.

I spoke to three different people about my grandmothers account. These IDIOTS said they couldn't speak to me because of the HIPAA laws (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act). They acted like I was the stupid one. After my grandmother authorized them to speak to me, they canceled her account but could not authorize a refund or credit; and, "even though they are not supposed to, " said that she will continue to receive the magazines until the end of the subscription. Well DUH! The subscriptions were paid for 5 times over already!

By the way, any 800 number or 888 number they give you goes to the same room full of low level idiots and script readers who are rude and obnoxious. Another number is 406-961-1300. This will reach a "customer service manager" who at least is not rude and doesn't try to hide behind a law that does not apply to him. I wonder if all the people who work there know it's a scam?

I wanted to add that I was able to get the subscription canceled by contacting BBB. They put ressure on the comany and they finally canceled it. Mention that they are pressure selling and that you dont want to deal with the corrupt ways of this company and the BBB will get you a resonse from someone other than the rude, Worst Possible, employees from the 800/888 numbers.

I am currently going through the same thing with this company. They are trying to tell me there is no way to cancel. Then I told them I was contacting the credit card company to stop payments, they laughed and said they would just send a paper bill! I told them I wouldn't pay it, then I said I was going to call each magazine and personally cancel and the woman slipped and said others have done that too. These people are low life's using pressure sales tactics. They double talk you into agreeing. Come on, 16 a month for 4 years for 4 magazines???? I can do better buying individual subscriptions! I am also calling the better business bureau next.

I neeed help as well. Like an idiot I gave them my information & i was told that they wouldn't start charging my credit card until 3 months because the first 3 months were free. They started charging me that first month anyway. So I looked up the company and found nothing but bad things. I contacted my credit card company & they reveresed the charge & have not let that company charge my card. So then they kept sending me statements, and I just didn't send any payments to them. Just yesterday I got a call from Rose, from taht company. She said they are going to send me to collections & i told her that before I made any payments I needed to contact somebody to see what kind of information I needed to get from them to see if they were legit. She tried compromising with me by lowering the amount of the balance and was hesistant when I asked her for a number taht I could call back on or have an attorney call her on. But she finally did give me one!! HELP!! I dont know what to do??!!??!!?? Any advice?

I just got my complaint resolved. What I ended up doing is going online and contacting the Better Business Bureau also. They contacted the company and got it resolved for me. I suggest you do the same. They are [censor] who use double talk to get you to sign up for their magazines. They laughed at me and tried to get me to agree to a lower amount also. I had my credit card stop all payments too. They don't want to deal with the BBB so they drop everything. Also call the magazines and cancel directly with them. Hope this helps.

Hey, I used to work for this company, in their collections/Billing Department. I made thousands of calls to their "Clients". here is something to keep in mind when they call to try and collect on this debt.


They cannot threaten you with collections, they are NOT a collections company. They do all in house billing. Remember that since they do not have your SSN, if they threaten to send you to collections, they are blowing smoke. No collection company will even think about touching these bills. There is no legal reprise for them. No collection company would buy bad debt that they KNEW they didnt have a SSN attatched to in order to ruin some ones credit.

I am another victim. Everything you have mentioned is happening. I am with you all. One big tip I can give you; Ask them to put the subscription charges and your contractual obligations in writting by either an email or letter. They won't because then they will be incriminating themselves. I asked for this and they said they just do everything over the phone. I was lucky because when I gave them my credit card, the credit card expired in two months so they were not able to get anymore money from me. I did call and cancel the next day they gave me a 888 number and it was a fax machine. Please be very careful.

I just found out about this company and after looking at all of your compaints I called the number given 888-300-9415 right away and was put to their messaging system. I left a message saying I wanted to cancel and to have them call me back to notify me that it was canceled. To be on the safe side I contacted the BBB as well. They are very persuasive and I asked where they had gotten my info and they said through my credit card service for being a "preferred customer" meaning I paid my bill on time. I hope this works out for me and others in the end
