CenturyLink overcharged for the last 6 months

I have always recommended CL over the other cable provider in the area because they had always had great Customer Service until recently.
First, you have to go through their robot answer system that does not understand Customer Service as a command, a far cry from the live person that used to answer the phone.
Secondly, you get to that person the robot sent your call to and they are not the department you need to speak with after 20 minutes on hold. So you are again transferred to wait again.
When I finally got a very nice lady on the line that promised to look into the $56 for a phone I don't have and over double the monthly charges($112 to $288) for Prism and Internet, I got cut off and could not get her back. So I called the same Number again and took another 15 minutes on hold. I finally got someone who could start to help me and then I had to talk to a resolution officer because she could not take off these outrageous charges.
I made calls every month for the last 6 months and not one person corrected my bill. The overages total over $400 and Now I am expected to pay for them. Please help !

CenturyLink billing and poor customer service

I have been paying my internet with century link for quite some time now. Set it up with their employee, was told no issues would happen again. Today I called to see why they sent me a disconnect notice for internet service and they say I have to pay $132.00 due to a late pmt that went from $38.99 to about $45.00 and an extra $7.00 per month due to that ongoing late charge. They won't take this off the bill, and I am disabled. I also live on a tight budget and they want to set me up with payments. REALLY? Help stop these companies from helping themselves to your money. Complain.

CenturyLink internet

I've had three horrible experiences with centurylink. First of all let me say that before I retired I worked with the broadband development with qwest/kpmg venture and I am a master electrician with MCSE, CCNA, CNA Certs in computers so I have an expert's opinion as well. First horrible experience was with my mother's house with a mother in her 70s. I ordered the service and CenturyLink technicians came out before I could get there and destroyed all of my beautiful wiring I had done for her phone system and then could not get anything to work claiming problems in their central switching. After fixing their wiring destruction I noticed the wire coming from their pedestal broken and after hooking it back up got her DSL working. A week went by with repeated phone calls of sending crews out to check wiring and me saying not to bother I fixed it that I noticed her speeds cut down to 2mbps download speed. Obviously they sent a crew out to mess with the wiring somewhere along the line and messed it up. I called and canceled service immediately after that first week so no term fees? Wrong they purposely kept the account open well after switching my mother to Comcast and sent her to collections for the month of service she never used and a termination fee.
Next experience was father getting hooked up only to discover after his first month he got knocked down from 35mpbs to a whopping 2mbps download speeds. He decided to tough it out for the first year and avoid the termination fees.
Last but not least I went on Centurylink during the same time as hooking up my parents homes but was exceptional in expressing that I would not sign up if there were termination fees if early cancellation. The sales rep agreed to exclude those terms in my contract and so I had agreed to a 12 month term. Keep in mind I put all three of these systems in place during the same week period so I had no history of this dysfunction before hand. They raised my rates three months after I started with them and I took that as breach of contract so I terminated after three months of service. Everyone is back on comcast and happy for the most part but Mom decided to pay her $200, Dad toughed it out for a year on 2mbps download speeds and I am in a battle with a collection agency who's threatening my almost perfect and hard earned credit score.
They are scammers. I would say be careful with them but the complaints her on this board are very real and there is little protection. I am so pissed about getting ripped off that I have filed a complaint with the FCC and the BBB but FCC has closed my case and it looks like I may have to fight for mediation in order to be heard.
The real bait and switch is when they hook you into a 12 month contract and then provide you with virtually no way to get things fixed and trust me their service is a constant problem. DSL is crappy and their customer service is ridiculous but you're stuck with it unless you just take it as a loss and pay the $200 to get out and order Comcast or something else. Seriously, this is no exaggeration when I mark all of their ratings with a one.

CenturyLink internet speeds constantly being throttled

I have heard every level of excuse from this company, and every time they throttle my speeds down to 4mb/s. They have had to repair their weak infrastructure lines to my home twice, and I pay for a 8mb/s service and know it can get the full 8mb/s when they aren't throttling me. I have threatened to sue them and viola instant speed, yet after not following thru on my threat, they have again knocked my service speed down. Guess I actually need follow thru with that lawsuit than!

CenturyLink internet service

We recently moved about 5 miles away from a home that we had Century Link internet service at 12 mbps. We have been told by Century Link that the fastest speed they can provide us at our new home is only 1.5 mbps. This is 2016 and to offer speeds that low in this day and age are unacceptable. They get away with it because the only other way to get internet in this area is through satellite which is actually worse. We can't even use wi-fi to make and receive calls at that speed. Checking email takes forever, forgetting trying to do a search. Streaming anything is impossible. Netflix can't even load a movie let alone play it.

Anyone have advice or are we screwed?

CenturyLink internet speed

I have been with Centurylink for 4 years. I have paid for 10 Mbps and have received 1.2 Mbps.

I've been told that's ok because i'm paying for up to 10 Mbps. I have never even gotten close to that.

They say in my area that's as good as it gets and they can't do anything about it.

Why do I have pay for something I have never gotten. I live 3/4 of a mile from the city limits where the service is 10 Mbps.

CenturyLink vacation plan

We signed up for a CenturyLink account (basic phone service plus internet) because that's the ONLY reliable means of communication at the house in WI. We drive a semi cross country and are often away from home for weeks at a time. But when we're home, having phone & internet is critical.

When we signed up, no one offered or explained the Vacation Plan which would save us money we didn't need to be throwing away on service we weren't there to use. If they had offered this in the beginning, we wouldn't have ever gotten behind on our bill.

But freight was slow in the fall & winter. We fell behind on many bills, even though we were away from home from the last week in October until a week past New Year's. It was only because we asked if CL had such a program that we even found out about i it. As if it's a big secret that the company really hopes you won't find out about.

We wanted to work out a payment arrangement to get our bill caught up & so we called. We made arrangements to pay half of the the outstanding bill ( half being $202.00). And CL immediately suspended our service. We called, & it was restored, but 3 days later, the service was again suspended.

When we called again to discuss our bill, they told us that No they can't apply the plan retroactively, No, they won't apply the plan until the payments are current, and No, they can't check to see what amount of data or how many calls we had made during our absence. If Homeland Security can access records, you know Century Link can.

And why wouldn't they apply the Vacation Plan going forward while we're not home? They just want to squeeze us for all they can get. Other companies make adjustments on customers' bills for justifiable reasons. We have never asked Century Link to make any other concession, ever. You would think that as a good faith gesture, they could make an allowance even just one time.

Like I said, if we had known about this plan, we could have saved about $200-300 over the 3 months we were absent from home. Instead, for the cumulative 4 weeks we were there, we have the privilege of paying in excess of $500. And climbing, since CL refuses to apply the plan until they exact (extract) the full measure of blood.

CenturyLink internet service

In May of 2014 I bought a house and moved. I contacted centurylink and they said they could save me money by going to direct tv and internet. I was currently a customer of centurylink and when the day came to have my internet service connected and the direct tv installer showed up I called to see when the centurylink would be connected. When I called they said I was unable to get internet at my new home. But the prior owner has internet and all of my neighbors have centurylink as well. I was told that I would have to wait until a "port" opened up and that they were full. I have been calling and checking every few months and still no internet. Why can't I get internet. My neighbor just got internet and he just moved in?

CenturyLink 25 mbps internet service/customer service

Get off of centurylink services if you can! I have spent the last week dealing with centurylink trying to get our internet service working. We were having strange error messages and other weird things happening on our dsl modem so stephen looked into what might be going on and found out that if we changed our plan (We have had the same one for 8 years) we could get a plan with 25 mb upload (Up from the 10 we had) and a land line for $30 cheaper than we were paying. All well and good. Set up a service call for thursday the 14th. I waited all day for a tech to show. On friday the tech finally showed and took 8 hours to get our connection running as the line was never provisioned. Worked for part of the weekend and we woke to no internet on monday reported it. They did all sorts of things. Sorta got it working. Tues. Am came downstairs, no internet. Gee they guessed they had to send a tech out wed. So someone (Of course me) had to be there 8-4. At 1pm was told when I called finding out when the tech was coming that he wasn't scheduled till the 21rst. Blew my stack to say the least. Convinced them to send someone today — he showed at 4:10pm - stayed for 20 min, adjusted 2 settings and guaranteed that we were up and permanently running. Not 10 min after he left guess what — that's right the internet went down. Am currently working on our rv network broadband network so I can have internet. Called centurylink - they told me that it was down because we had a tech scheduled for the 21rst and our internet was down indefinitely. I very calmly slammed the phone down as hard as I could and called time warner cable. While I will never have twc as my tv provider (Another long rant) I found out that not only could I get my land line (Need a land line for my pacemaker) but I could get twice as fast download speed 50 mbps for $14 less than centurylink's fees. Oh and the best part - I get to keep my old phone number. Why would I pay more for less and more aggravation? I hope that some of you who have similar situations will consider this action and send centurylink a message that they have become a ma bell and it is time to give birth to some baby bells.

CenturyLink dsl

Sent back our faulty modem but still got billed for the cost of the modem! Tried talking with a chat rep and they affirmed we would be credited back for the modem on our next bill. Well the next bill arrived and we've officially been charged. Talked with a chat representative a second time and directed us to their billing department which was closed. Loyal customer for 3 years, definitely looking at other ISPs in our area tonight.

Update: Talked with customer service, even though the modem was shipped 2 months ago they won't credit me back the fee unless I can prove the modem arrived with a tracking number. That tracking number receipt is far gone but how does Century Link not track these things themselves once the package arrives? This takes it to a whole new level! Definitely leaving Century Link next month when my 1 year contract is up. Please consider other ISPs in your area before going with Century Link. I've enjoyed their services up until this point but this kind of service is unacceptable. BEWARE!

CenturyLink Billing for internet

I've had internet service with CenturyLink for a few years, and I have never missed a payment. This new incident began on 10/28/15 when I upgraded from 12 mbps to 20 mbps which is a free upgrade - activated on November 10th, 2015. My account # [protected] which I've always used for my internet service and was paid in full. One of their uninformed reps issued a new account number for upgrading my internet, which I found out later wasn't necessary. I sent back the old modem, which they received in November. So CenturyLink knew that this account was no longer active and should have been closed and deleted, because the new account was in service and working. They didn't close the old account, but instead kept charging me for services not rendered and no modem attached. I made call after call and talked to the finance dept. several times of which they assured me that no charges would be taken out of my autopay account and it would charged back to zero. It never happened! In January $70 was deducted form my bank, which I disputed and it was credited to my account. But today, Jan 10th, I looked at my CL account and I owe $126.72 of which there was not supposed to have auto pay in place, but it is in place. So I charged it on a credit card so that my bank wouldn't be touched. CenturyLink has the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I've reported them to the FCC for myself and also to help others who have been fraudulently charged. I want my credit card refunded for the $126.72 that I never owed in the first place. CenturyLink tries to blame their customers for their mistakes, which is appalling. They are liars and thieves and they need to be stopped!

CenturyLink stay away from the internet with them

Where to begin... When I first signed up, the put two accounts in my name and sent me two modem/routers. After an hour on the phone - they realized the mistake was on their end and closed one of the accounts. Yay! They did something correctly! The rest of the story has no happy points. I signed up for the Mb download and Mb upload package. They promised me a discounted rate without install charges and waiving the activation charge - I got charged for both. For the first 30 days (you can exit your contract with no financial obligation within 30 days) everything worked well even though I was getting Mb down and Mb up (close enough for me not to complain). On day 33 - my internet went to crap completely. Since then 2 installers cannot figure it out, and I have to restart my modem/router 3, 4, 5 times a day as the signal is the more unstable than a free cricket phone on a 2G network. I'm lucky to get 20mb down at most and the signal is so unstable every web service times out (Netflix, PS Network, etc). Funny thing is - I work in IT and I build networks. I've told the installers how to fix the problem, but they don't have the hardware they need and refuse to replace infrastructure components that are necessary for everyone within a few blocks to have decent service. Moral of the story: Century Link is Qwest - nothing has changed. The same business model of getting people in a contract and screw them for the most money they can. I will also mention that in the last 5 months I have been with them, they increased my price twice. I still don't have a stable network or the speeds promised 5 months later. I live in Mesa, Arizona and all other Century Link users in my neighborhood have all said the same things as I have.

CenturyLink isp service

Getting tired of this problem. Have major problem with the line coming from centurylinks side of the internet service. Approximately, every 5 to 10 minutes. They drop the dsl connection. I can't even read my email! Worse yet. When I go to reset the modem as per tech. support telling me to do so. The modem locks up into a "walled garden" state. Meaning that a generic ip address has been automatically reassigned to the modem. As a result of this. You end up with no internet what so ever! Then have to make another call to tech. support so they can reassign your account info. to the modem. Then, 'whew!', you have to remove the old wifi network and create a new wifi network with a new password, etc, etc, etc.. For each device in your household. This is simply unexeptable! Clearly, CenturyLink IS AWARE of this problem, or they would not be giving customers these instructions to get their internet service back. I hope that enough customers complain or even drop their service and hit them in their wallets enough to get some action taken.

CenturyLink Robo calls, unsolicited cell phone calls and text messages

I keep receiving repetitive annoying phone calls, text messages and oddly enough even some type of downloads I am unable to even open being sent to my cellophane which I have had over a year, so it's not as though I am receiving calls for a previous customer who had this cell number and the latest call I received was today at 1:10 pm. The number is derived from a landmine in Enfield, CT [protected]) and by the looks of it after searching the Internet to verify the person or company that keeps directing these annoying phone calls, text messages and the ridiculous downloads to my cell number it seems as though Connecticut has a fraudulent Company going by the name of " Reward Redemption's" and aligned to another company possibly a parent company or money laundering type company called " Global Crossing Local Services, Inc." . Basically a representative calls or texts you to pull a scam on you about a bogus card worth between $25.00-$500.00 that you supposedly have won (by luck, lol) but it's a scam just to have you pay a S&H (shipping & handling fee) between $3.95-$12.95 that literally doesn't exist because there is no card to begin with. Do the math people, let's say for example they convince 75 people to honestly believe them; $3.95 x 75 =$296.25 or $12.95 x 75 =$971.25 and then they keep this scam going year round the numbers get enormous . $296.25 x 365 =$108, 131.25 $971.25 x 365 = $354, 506.25 and I merely only based the $3.95 on what I am used to paying for a minimum S&H for a online purchase until I read another complaint about the same phone number about that company where the person was victimized being charged $12.95 for a bogus charge on a card that didn't exist. This is bs and this entire company needs to be stopped in there tracks and any other company out there doing similar activities to innocent people. We never go searching for your company but you go looking for us by buying our phone numbers through a 3rd party listing shared sometimes via different companies. There should be federal and criminal charges brought against such entities. The point is if these companies can get over so many people to believe this is honestly true just imagine how much they will have ripped off from you and other innocent people. So I am writing this as a warning, so beware of the number and someone posing that you won a card and I am contacting a lawyer. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) of 1991 (47 USC §227) and other related laws prohibit businesses from advertising through unsolicited text messages or unwanted phone calls to your cellular phone. These advertisements are also known as "spam text, " "spam text messages, " "mobile spam, " "wireless spam, " "mspam, " "robo calls, " "nuisance calls" or "unsolicited call". The TCPA allows private actions by persons subjected to the prohibited conduct and authorizes recovery of up to $500 per violation or $1, 500 if the violation was willful or knowing. The TCPA makes it illegal for advertisers to send texts or to make calls using an automatic telephone dialing system or artificial or prerecorded voices to cellular phones without the prior express written consent of the recipient. 47 USC §227 (B) Restrictions on use of automated telephone equipment (1) Prohibitions It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States, or any person outside of the United States if the recipient is within the United States (A) to make any call (other than a call for emergency purposes or made within the prior express consent of the called party) using any automatic telephone dialing system or an artificial or prerecorded voice (iii) to any telephone number assigned to a paging service, cellular telephone service, specialized mobile radio service, or other radio common carrier service, or any service for which the called party is charged for the call.

CenturyLink charges

I was contracted for two years for the Internet and prism TV with Century Link. I was told that my monthly bill including all modem, HD and DVR costs will be $89 plus taxes. Now when I receive the bill it is double that amount and my calls to Century Link has been unsuccessful. I was told that Sales person made an error and I am now stuck with two years contract. This is considered a highway robbery. Please consider this while doing any business with this company.

CenturyLink customer service experience

I had literally the worst customer service experience I have ever had from the Century Link team. I have been a faithful customer since 2002. I paid my bill on time every month. I received a bill stating I had not paid my bill for several months. I created an investigation and provided all of my bank statements showing I had paid the bill. I was assured by the representative that my service would not be disturbed. I came home last night to my service being cut off. When I called, I was transferred to 4 different agents and finally after an hour on the phone told to call back in the morning. I have just called them and after being transferred three times--I was told to pay it or they would not restore my service. I have been lied to and have now paid twice for the same service. The person on the other line ended the call by saying, "Century Link appreciates their customers." Another lie! I will be finding a new service for my residential contract. In addition, I own a business that uses Century Link--we will be looking for a new ISP--the contract value is large and they simply did not service a customer appropriately.

CenturyLink internet/landline

I hate this company. 1/4 to half of my bill is taxes. My bill for my landline is $17. Taxes are $13. My internet is $65. Taxes are $16. If I use my landline for long distance, they tax that too! It's a racket and their days are numbered. Ride that wave while you can CenturyLink because I'm done with you. My bill was $125 and $35 of it was taxes! They say the states "force" that on them but I never experienced this with AT&T Uverse. Their customer service is non-existent and when you do deal with them, they're rude. I'm canceling as soon as I find replacement.
