I purchased this $850 machine in January 2024, after conducting research. Having never previously owned a Breville product, I decided to make the investment. In February 2025, the steam wand began to malfunction. There was no steam from the wand; instead, the tray began to steam, and it made a horrendous noise. After flushing, descaling, cleaning the wand, and resetting the machine, it still did not work.
I contacted Breville support, and after a video chat, the rep advised me to send the machine back to their service center, as it was still under warranty. Breville sent packing materials, and I packages as instructed, took the box to UPS, and waited to hear back from them.
On March 4, 2025, I received and email that the machine had been repaired and would be shipped back to me. When I began using the machine again, I noticed that steam was now being extracted from the wand, but the pressure was low. Milk would very slightly froth, if at all. Because we had a serious illness in the family, I had no time deal with the machine at that point. I still used the machine to grind the beans and extract espresso, but I used a Nespresso frother for the milk.
Exactly one month after receiving the machine back (4/7/25), it started making the horrendous noise/steaming from the tray but not the wand again. I attempted to call Breville between business meetings, but was placed on hold for a total of 1.5 hours. At intervals throughout the day, I checked the machine and found that the steam wand was still not working.
Finally, a rep from Breville called me back in the evening. I explained to her everything that had happened, and she insisted on another video chat. At this point, the blasted steam wand Baden producing steam, and she asked me to froth some milk. I did so, and I clearly, there was no foam — just a few small bubbles on the surface. She asked me what type of milk I was using. When I replied 2%, she asked if I had any other type of milk on hand, to which I replied that I did not. (Ironically, I have always used 2%, and the Nespresso makes an amazing, thick foam.)
She insisted that there was nothing wrong with my machine, insinuating that I was making up the malfunction Issue. Sure, I have so much free time and nothing better to do. 🙄 So, basically nothing was resolved and nothing probably will ever be.
If anything, I’ve learned two things: 1) Never buy another Breville product, and 2) The simple Delonghi machine I purchased for $77 to use while the Breville was in repair makes a far superior cappuccino.
