Books-A-Million Disappointing Experience at Joe Muggs Coffee

After reading various reviews about Joe Muggs Coffee, I was excited to visit. However, upon arrival, I was let down by the lack of variety and quality of the coffee. The atmosphere was not as inviting as expected, and the service was subpar. I had high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. Next time, I'll opt for a different coffee shop.

Books-A-Million Why can't I cancel an order when it takes almost a year to deliver

I have written and called about an order I placed June of 2021 and still have not gotten the book. It is listed as pending and they said that they can't cancel an order that is pending. I became a member hoping to get better service but that is not the case. I will not be renewing my membership with them.

Books-A-Million BAM is a discounter

BAM is a discounter. They sell markdowns, offloads et cet. From major chains(Oh, are there any left!). I generally don't do too much business with this company, but when I have never had a problem. They're mainly heavy on fiction and bios. They do have good deals, frequently. There shipping is fair, and they do notify of any delays, or problems with delivery.
Frankly, I prefer other companies, but will occasionally purchase books from them

Books-A-Million I would be more picky, but B. A.M. Is the only bookstore left in my area

Books A Million is a good bookseller. The books they sell seem to be more on the "used" side for being sold as "New". The stores allow customers to handle the books and even start reading them before purchasing, which i presume is the cause of some of the books looking a bit tattered.
The selections in store is good, but not great. The store is heavy on fiction, sci-fi and biographys. The store is not very balanced. Having one shelf labeled "religion" and 2 or three rows of shelves for christian reading. Being from an are with a large "free thinking" population, you would think they would tailor the selection based on what the majority of customers want (Or at least even out the selection).

Books a million has a very odd returns policy. Considering they sell books that are not always pristine, they have a strict return policy. Sometimes they wont accept a return because of the books condition. I find this funny because they didnt have a problem selling it to me like that.

Considering there are no other book sellers within 50 miles of my home, i dont have much choice unless i want to solely buy books online. Before the e-reader craze started and booksellers started to go under, Borders books also occupied the same shopping center. How BAM survived and Borders didnt dumbfounds me. I would rather have Borders, but books a million is fine too.

Books-A-Million Books Galore

For someone like me (disabled) who can't drive particularly far, having the membership is fantastic. The fact that they use actual boxes is a far cry better than Amazon!
I've recently done a comparison and most times they're actually cheaper than Prime. Bravo! Keep up the good work, and you'll keep a customer for life.

Books-A-Million Trash of all trashes

I rarely write review, but was SO BAD that I could not imagine.
AVOID them like a PLAGUE!
Because of their IMPERTINENCE and IMPUDENCE.

I registered there, ordered something as well as their "Millionaire's Club" services, because they were pushing it really hard and also because I was getting free shipping with it.And after payment I got this email:
"Status: This item is no longer available and has been cancelled. Cancelled items are no longer available. Unfortunately these item(s) have been cancelled from your order in our system."

So, they are selling/offering something that they actually don't have, hm... I thought.
OK, so I went for refund ofcourse. And then... troubles start.

At first, they were just ignoring my emails.
I could not believe.

Then, after a while (I'm looking at the emails now, it's been 19 days! Of them not responding), I wrote them "Do you want me to ask for my money back via Paypal or what?".

Only AFTER THAT (3 weeks later!) they refunded me for cancelled items, but they were OPENLY REFUSING to give me back for their "Millionaire club" service. I told them I wasn't being using it, nor I plan to use it, it's just something that I don't need. I was dealing with Jena Richardson from their support and she was showing no interest to assist me on that matter.

Then I requested refund via Payapal - they were just simply ignoring it!
I never met company like that before!

Finally, I had to open dispute on Paypal, to resolve all that.
It took me some while and some nerves, but finally Paypal sided with me and AGAINST THE B. A.M.'s WILL refunded me.

It was not about the money, but about their INSOLENCE!
If such big company can't afford themselves to refund normal user for 25 bucks (oh boy, what a big pile of money!) for service one just doesn't need - that is just showing how GREEDY they are!

Really, trash of all trashes!

Books-A-Million I was screamed after being overcharged by the MGR Phylis/ Canton GA!

The first visit I was told I did not have an account - which I did pay for so on first visit, they then charged me for another account. Second visit they found BOTH accounts but refused to refund the error. I am a teacher and they required me to show proof which I did but they did not note it on both accounts. Third visit I went to purchase my items and a new person was at desk. When I told her about BOTH accts and to please make sure I rcvd my teacher discount she hit the total and didn't put in discount. To which I replied "it's fine forget about it today, I'm In a hurry". There were 3 employs not helping but rather sitting at the coffee shop talking and ignoring customers (2 in wheelchairs) and looking for help. The new person called over to the mgr and asked her to correct her error. Unfort the new person had not pulled the receipt for me after my payment went through and in her words it timed out it was out of paper. When the mgr asked me for the rcpt, I explained I wasn't given it but that I could pull up my bank acct to see if payment went through. Again reminding them I'm in a hurry, forget the discount and needed to leave. The mgr started flapping her arms (literally), pulling the bags out of my hands, and screaming at me top of her lungs, that it was my fault, she refused to give me my purchase items that were bagged and said she needed to have me prove I paid for them. Even tho the employee Verified the charge was approved as I pulled up my bank online to show the purchase posted. She told me to shut up and threw her hands into my face aggressively. Telling me again to just stop talking and wait. It was the WORST I have EVER been treated in my life. She refused to give me her full name and claimed to be the mgr- grey blonde, late 50's, RUDE and irrational person claiming her name was Phyllis. Once she pressed enough buttons she saw it had gone through and threw the bags at me! No apology whatsoever. She said "good luck complaining no one cares and I'm the mgr". I said I'll call corporate. I'm in charge of an large homeschool system and I will never use this company for mass orders or even 1 more book there. PLEASE GO TO B&N or AMAZON! Be warned do not go to canton, GA location!, she was aggressive and a clear bully.

I purchased 5 magazines on 9/30. I paid $36ish using an old gift card and $25ish on my credit card. When I gave these magazines to my mom, she’d already bought four of them. I brought the four duplicate magazines and the original receipt back on 10/1 to return. I was offered a $47 gift card and $3 to go back on my card. I explained that I expected my $25ish...

Books-A-Million Calendars not delivered

I ordered 3 calendars on Dec. 31, 2022 that said they were all in stock. I received the first one in a week (that was ok), I received the second one in 2 weeks and the package and calendar are ripped (not ok). I still have not received the third one.

I sent an email last week about the delivery and have not received a reply.

I wish I had checked the online customer service reviews before I ordered! I definitely will not be ordering from Books a Million again!

Books-A-Million Mags.com

I was asked to buy a membership, I said I was ok. She misunderstood me and thought I wanted it. No big deal. She asked me my email I gave it to her. She asked for my address and I said why do you need my address to purchase books? She said for the membership… we cleared that up and I never gave my address. Less than a month later my PayPal was touched on twice in a day for 2.14 then a week later they went in for more! This is such a fraud and I’ve had to escalate the complaint with PayPal. I will stay away from shopping at books a million moving forward. This is actually the second “misunderstanding “ . The last time was a few years ago. They should not be in on a magazine scam. And to boot! I never even got a magazine!

Desired outcome: Refund my money and stop scamming people!

Books-A-Million Magazine Subscription Trial Scam

I was told during checkout that I would be warned via when the magazine trials for People and Time magazine would come to an end so that I could cancel the subscription if I didn't want to continue. I didn't really want the magazines, but the cashier insisted and I thought that it'd be no big deal, that I'd just unsubscribe when I received the reminder. I received no such warning; I checked both my inbox and my spam folder and there was nothing from either of these magazines. As a result, I found my debit card was locked when I tried to buy groceries because the bank thought that someone was trying to steal money from my account because my information was given to these magazines. I now have now have to get a new debit card, am unable to buy anything else for the next couple of weeks, and figure out how to cancel these subscriptions so that this situation doesn't repeat; mags.com is not answering the phone and neither is the bookstore. I do not like that I was lied to and I do not like that the important information I needed to know to avoid this situation wasn't told to me directly. I will not be shopping at Books-A-Million again for a long time because I can't trust them.

Desired outcome: Stop lying to customers.Stop forcing magazine subscriptions they don't want/need.Tell them up front what will happen.Don't give Debit Card information to companies.

Books-A-Million Fraud on discount coupons

I am a member of Booksamillion club and use the store in Abilene, Tx. For years, I have been using your coupons like $5 off $25 and 20% off purchase and your stores have tried to cheat me. This has happened many times over the years and especially in the last two weeks. The store manager handles the problem and gives me the money I deserve. I have asked him to send messages on this problem up the corporate ladder and he says he does, but nothing has been done to remedy the situation. He gave me a number to call last week and I discussed the problem and was told nothing could be done by the representative I talked with. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told he had none. He said I would get a call back, but this has not happened. Here is the problem. Two weeks ago, I came in with a $5 off $25 coupon. A statement about this appeared on my receipt, but no money was taken off my purchase price. I went back to the store, showed it to the manager and he gave me a $5 gift card to make it correct. The cash register would not correct it. This week, I made purchases with a 20% off coupon. I bought two books. One had a 40% off price marked on it. The original price was $29.00. The register charged $17.40, which was 40% off. My other purchase was $8.99 and the register gave me. 10% off as a member. They tried to charge me $25.49 before tax. That did not give me anything for my 20% off coupon. I had done the calculations in my head and showed the manager the problem. He saw I was correct and gave me a new price of $22.25. When I got home I used my calculator and found it should be $20.39 before taxes. You still ow me $1.86. I am tired of being cheated. I want that amount plus another $10.00 for all my troubles. In addition, I demand to speak to someone in charge about this problem with coupons. I am sure you are also cheating other customers who use coupons and are not as observant as I am. If this problem is not resolved I will not renew my membership next year. The main reason I remain a member is based on coupon use and I do not need this hassle every time I use one. This has been happening for years and I have been compiling for years and nothing has been done about it. If I do not hear from someone at Booksamillion, I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Disgusted,

Charles Hennig

Books-A-Million Online order from 3rd party

I ordered a book to be delivered from the state of Washington to the state of Texas. It has been 23 days. Shipping does not take that long. I requested information and they informed me through their customer service department that the vendor stated it would take 20 days. After the 20 days and not receiving my goods, I requested a refund from Books-A-Million. I was told that I had to wait 30 days until I could request a refund, because books ship from all over the world. I know the company that supposedly shipped the book is located in the state of Washington and even the vendor told Books-A-Million it would only take 20 days, so why is Books-A-Million holding my refund hostage.

Desired outcome: refund of my money as I did not receive my product.

This is the third time this has happened at this BAM location, and I won't be coming back. Books-A-Million Magazine subscription offer

I won't go back to BAM. I feel I was tricked into a magazine subscription. The cashier's wording never implied I was being signed up or charged for anything. Or that I really had a choice in the matter. My fault, because I completely trusted them! You really should explain this magazine subscription better to customers, so they don't feel taken advantage of!

Desired outcome: I just don't want other customers to fall for it like I did.

At check out, you are pressured into signing up for free magazines...Cancel any time you want. They are supposed to send you a cancellation notice. They don't. My account was charged $70. You call the number BAM gives you and it is ONLY automated person. They only way to get a refund is to agree to MORE magazines. It sounds crazy, but after 22 minutes, you get desperate. Books-A-Million very poor treatment of customer

On approximately 02/12/2019 I was asked to leave Books A Million, Johnson City, Tn. because I had napped off while reading my computer. I was told someone had e-mailed a complaint to the comapn and this was the reason for being asked to leave and not come back. There are other people who do this and they are still at Books-A-Million and they are not being asked to leave. I am telling everyone I know about this situation. I will begin a campaign of informing the whole country of this poor, biased treatment. Again, there are plenty of other people who have nodded off and slept for a few minutes, YET, they are still there in the store. Others I have told about this have told me that they have even nodded off themselves.

There are even homeless people who come in and they are not treated this way.

Books-A-Million terrible magazine scam

I live in Birmingham, Alabama and visited the Brook Highland location December 2017. I was told by the cashier at the time of purchase and joining the club that I was entitled to 3 free magazines. She however DID NOT tell me that Time magazine would get my credit card number and start charging me for the magazines! Unfortunately for me, I don't check my American Express every month and have a years worth of charges for magazines I really did not want. I was told this was free and her words were I quote after saying no was "why not, it's free". I am very upset and unfortunately can not dispute anything with my credit card because of time frame and Time magazine will not do anything.
I now hate Books A Million!

Books-A-Million elimination of refrigerated treat case.

I have been visiting Books-a-Million in Hammond, LA for as long as it has been open. I have seen some very strange things done in every one of the 3 locations they have been. All of the "changes" have been corporate in nature. This last change of eliminating the treats case is ridiculous. When are you corporate people going to understand that one corporate model does not work everywhere. You trust your managers to operate a multimillion dollar store why don't you leave them alone and let them do the things they know will work in their area. You people micro-manage too much. The sales tactics that are successful in Michigan went be successful in Louisiana. When you understand that then your stories will really begin to make a profit.

Books-A-Million magazine subscription

BAM" AKA "Books - A - Million"- caution to anyone who shops at BAM book store (eau claire) - they are involved in predatory business practices at checkout - they try to get you to sign up for magazine subscriptions. DON'T DO IT! You can not easily get them cancelled! If you call the # that is listed on your bank statement charge you get an automated services. They repeatedly offer you "better and better deals", just know you have to keep saying NO to all the offers, eventually you get to a Cancel subscription permanently offer, BUT, they drop the line about refunding your money. If you AGREE TO THEIR "BETTER OFFER" THEY promise to send you a reminder before the next fee is due BUT THEY DON'T SEND ANY REMINDER AND THEY TAKE OUT 4 X AS MUCH MONEY WITHOUT WARNING. eventually they pretend to send you to alive person, but you never get there. If you need to cancel call this # [protected], I'm told you will get a live person to deal with. We are not talking a small amount, we are talking a charge for $122.00 for a subscription to People magazine. After this, I will never purchase another book or product from "BAM", if your kids shop there make sure they know to just keep saying no as the tellers target anyone using a credit/debit card!
