Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Bike Review: Nice, but Overpriced and Not Competition Ready

This bike is pretty good, but they say it's like a $1200 Trek bike. They sent it with resin pedals for a big guy like me, and one broke on the second ride. My son fell off but he's okay. The pedal just snapped from standing on it and riding on the pavement. They say it's a professional bike, but I don't think any pro rider would like it. They say it's competition ready too, but I don't think so. The bike itself is nice, but it's not worth $1200. It's more like a $500 bike. They're sending us more plastic pedals, but I don't trust them anymore. I read good reviews about the company, but I don't think this bike is all they say it is. They should say it's like a $750 bike at most. My son likes the bike, but I don't understand why they sent such weak pedals for a bike that's supposed to be like a $1200 Trek. The shifters are okay, but they're not as good as a Trek or Giant at $1200. The brakes are okay, but the Schwinn from Walmart had better brakes for less money. We had to return it because of some plastic parts inside the tube/fork area. It was a good bike besides that. I think the BikesDirect bike is nice, but it's not as high-end as they say it is.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Mix-Up: My Motobecane Has a Gravity Logo - Review

So, I got my bike from BikesDirect and after putting it together, I noticed something strange. Instead of the Motobecane logo on the head stock, there was a Gravity logo. I was pretty bothered by this, so I sent an email to the shipping address asking what was going on.

The response I got was from Larry at BikesDirect, who apologized for the mix-up. He explained that Motobecanes and Gravity bikes are made in the same factory, so it was just a small mistake. He even said that my bike was now one of a kind, which I guess is kind of cool.

But, I'm still pretty annoyed about the logo. I mean, I bought a Motobecane, not a Gravity. Now I have to explain to everyone why there's a Gravity logo on my bike. And, if I remove it, I'll void the warranty. Not that I think anyone will actually honor the warranty from BikesDirect anyway.

Overall, I'd give the bike a 3 out of 5 because of the logo mix-up. And, I'd give BikesDirect a 2 out of 5 for their response. It just seemed kind of ridiculous to me.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Decent Bikes, Terrible Customer Service & No Replacement Parts

I gotta say, I bought a Motobecane HAL5 2018 from BikesDirect a couple years back and I'm feeling pretty mixed about it. On one hand, the bike itself is pretty decent - nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done. On the other hand, when I recently damaged one of the suspension linkages while trying to replace a stuck bearing, I found myself in a bit of a pickle.

See, BikesDirect doesn't really have any customer service to speak of. No phone numbers, no names, nothin'. Just an automated phone line for sales. So if you need help with anything, you're stuck sending an email and waiting 24-48 hours for a response. And when I finally did get a response, all I wanted was a part number so I could buy a replacement from them. But it turns out they don't even have spare parts for their own bikes! And this is a bike that's only two years old, mind you.

At first I thought maybe they were just out of stock or something, but nope - they just don't carry replacement parts like any other bike brand would. They've got some generic components like wheels, but nothing specific to the frame. So I tried reaching out to Motobecane USA, but they don't have any contact info either. They'll try to tell you that BikesDirect is just a distributor, but it's really just the same business.

After a few emails back and forth with BikesDirect's "customer service" (a guy named Larry), I started questioning why they don't have replacement parts for bikes that are less than two years old. And you know what? They just stopped answering my emails altogether. Real classy.

So yeah, while the bikes themselves are alright (if a bit outdated in terms of geometry and components), I really can't recommend buying from BikesDirect. They don't have replacement parts, they don't have phone support, and their email customer service is pretty lackluster. Do yourself a favor and go with a brand that actually cares about their customers. Don't just take my word for it - check out their website and see for yourself.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Good Bike, Bad Customer Service, Expect to be Run Through the Ringer

I bought a mountain bike from BikesDirect a few weeks ago, and it's the second bike I've bought from them in the past five years. The first time around, I had no issues, so I decided to order from them again. However, on my first ride with the new bike, I got a flat tire. It wasn't BikesDirect's fault, though. I took the tire off to replace the tube and found that the rim tape wasn't installed properly. I fixed that, put in a new tube, and went for another ride. But I didn't even make it five feet before the tube blew again. I should have been more careful the first time around. It turns out that there was some machining slag in one of the spoke holes, which caused the flats. Again, not BikesDirect's fault, but two flats in such a short time made me decide to go tubeless. Luckily, the bike came with tubeless-capable rims, so I bought the necessary tires, tape, sealant, and valve stems and converted the front wheel. It worked great, with no leaks.

Next, I tried to convert the rear wheel, but it's leaking from the rim joint to the point where it won't hold pressure. I've been emailing back and forth with BikesDirect, and they've suggested some bandaid fixes, but they keep asking for more pictures and videos. I've tried their solutions, but they didn't work. I've already spent too much time and money on this simple problem. I've told them that I just want the wheel replaced or to return the bike altogether. It's not worth the frustration. However, they keep asking for more pictures and videos. I'm not sure how this will end up, but based on my experience, I wouldn't expect a quick resolution from them if there's a problem. Expect to be run through the ringer. If I don't get satisfaction soon, my next step is to dispute the charge. Hopefully, that will get their attention. Even that may not do any good, but I'm hopeful that I'll get this worked out.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Terrible Wheels, No Customer Service, Transaction ID: 88Y-G

Purchased a bicycle from BikesDirect, with the transaction ID 88Y-G. The wheels were significantly misaligned. Customer service responded indifferently, suggesting I rectify the issue myself or pay for repairs. Even budget bicycles from other retailers come with better-aligned wheels. I'm dissatisfied. Mike, the wheel defects were clearly pre-existing, not shipping-related. After assembling the bike and correcting a misaligned crank arm and brake pads, I'm now expected to deal with returning it or accept factory defects as standard? Even for an entry-level bike, this seems unreasonable. Your dismissive reply to my complaint and insistence on shipping damage being the cause are unhelpful. A replacement set of wheels is the only acceptable solution. Regards, a frustrated customer. Update: I've documented the wheel issue in a video available at the provided BikesDirect link.

Bikesdirect.com Beware of Bikesdirect.com: Paid for Two Bikes, Received None, and Terrible Customer Service

I bought a bike from bikesdirect.com and the frame was messed up. We agreed on a $200 credit for a new, more expensive bike. I ordered and paid in full in March, but they never shipped the bike. B. D. made up stories about why it didn't ship, but they said it would ship in April (it was a web page error). They kept making up more stories, blaming Covid-19, the shipping company, the ports, and even Paypal. They show the bike for sale on their website as ships now, but they refuse to ship it to me. I called and called, but they never answer their phone. I sent email after email, but they claim they sent a partial refund (I'm still waiting for it). I told them I wanted my bike, and the CEO said he was going to have it sent to me right away. But days later, the employee said they needed to make a new invoice, and I never received it. They claim it's Paypal's fault, but I offered to give them my credit card info or just order the bike as listed on their website, and they refused. So in the end, I paid for two bikes and have zero bikes to ride. All the other bikes I could have bought months ago are now sold out. I wish I never ordered anything from bikesdirect.com. If you're thinking of ordering a bike from them, try calling them first and see how that works out for you. Also, ask yourself why a bike company like Bikesdirect.com would use and pay Paypal. It's super hard to find any type of bike right now, but I wouldn't recommend dealing with this company!

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Shady Business or Good Deals?

I gotta say, my first purchase from BikesDirect was pretty good. It was about 5 years ago and everything went real smooth. But maybe I just got lucky or something, ya know? I've heard some negative stuff about how they do business, so you gotta be careful. They do save you some money though, which is nice. But I mean, any business that's not a physical store should save you money, right? That's just common sense.

Now, here's the thing. I think BikesDirect is kind of shady. They promote certain bikes that make them the most money, even if they're not really the best deal for you. And they use all kinds of tricks to make it seem like they're giving you a better deal than they really are. Like, they'll compare their prices to other stores, but those prices don't really mean anything because their bikes are made up of parts that they put together themselves. So it's not like you're getting the same thing as you would at a regular bike shop.

One thing you should know is that they paid for the rights to use the name "Motobecane" on their bikes. And that's a big part of their whole scheme. They make it seem like Motobecane is this great brand, but really it's just a name they bought. And they pass the cost of that name onto you. So you gotta be careful when you're looking at their bikes.

But here's the thing. You can still find some good deals on BikesDirect if you know what you're looking for. I got a Windsor Dover 3 a few years ago and it's a great bike. The frame is really solid and it's well-balanced. If you're looking for a comfort bike, I'd definitely recommend it. And I just got the 2016 version with disc brakes and it's even better than the old one. My friend has a 2016 Motobecane Jubilee Deluxe and my bike puts his to shame. So don't let the Motobecane name fool you.

Overall, I'd say BikesDirect is worth checking out if you're in the market for a bike. Just be careful and do your research before you buy anything.

Bikesdirect.com Mixed Experience with Bikes Direct: Great Bike, Poor Customer Service

I got my bike from Bikes Direct a month ago and I gotta say, it's a great bike for the price! I mean, where else can you find a better deal? And the customer service is top-notch too!

But hold up, I gotta give y'all an update. So I've been riding my Sturgis Bullet for about a year now (well, only 3 months out of that year because I only ride it in the snow), and I'm super disappointed with Bikes Direct. The rear hub has been giving me nothing but trouble, and since it's still under warranty, I went to BD for help. They told me to order a replacement freehub body through them, so I did. But guess what? Three weeks later, I still didn't have the part! So I went to my local bike shop and they helped me find a replacement. When I called BD to ask why I never got my part, they told me they didn't have any. But they still charged me for it! So I had to ask for a refund. And then, less than two months later, the hub failed again! When I contacted BD about it, they told me to contact the hub manufacturer directly. And when I asked if I could talk to someone at BD about it, they said they only communicate with customers by email. Like, seriously? There's no customer service beyond purchase!

So yeah, I wouldn't buy from BD again. Sure, I saved a few hundred dollars, but I've spent way more than that on shop fees and missed riding opportunities. If you're a serious rider, go to a local bike shop. They'll take care of you if anything goes wrong. BD doesn't have any customer service beyond purchase, and that's just not cool.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Not Recommended for Non-Professionals - Nightmare Experience with Dawes Eclipse City Model

I just got my first bike from BikesDirect and I gotta say, it was a pretty BAD experience. I'm not a professional bike assembler, so I don't recommend this company if you're not one either. It's not safe for you to assemble it yourself. I got the Dawes Eclipse City model on April 2nd and it's been a nightmare ever since.

First off, the website advertised how easy and cheap it is to get the bike ready, but that's NOT true. It has cost me probably an additional $100 and (still counting) 10 hours+ to assemble and de-assemble it to return this. Unfortunately, they want EVERYTHING in the original packing and stored the same way. I need to pay for shipping & who knows how much they'll refund me. At this point, I'm praying I can get my original amount back given all the hassle.

Let me tell you about the list of issues I've had with this bike. First, the website stated my bike was for 5'8-5'11. Me being 5'11 I chose this size to be safe, but the post was way too high that I could not see anyone shorter than my height even getting on the bike! I had to go all the way to Home Depot buy a hacksaw to cut it shorter for myself. Given that I already spent 6 hours on the bike, I was tired and just wanted the company to reimburse me for this. It took 4-5 back and forths just to get them to reimburse $10 for me to get the hacksaw.

Second, upon getting on the bike, my chain slipped and it was so dangerous! I almost fell off the bike on the road. I asked a friend about this and they said none of the pre-assembled parts were ready and this is unacceptable from a safety standpoint.

Lastly, the spoke guard broke after the 2nd time of riding it. I only noticed since I heard a clacking noise as I was riding it. There is no way it would break unless there was something wrong with the bike given that it is brand new. At this point, I just want to return it and get a refund.

Dealing with BikesDirect has been a hassle. I will update this review based on what they say. I can only deal with them via email since they have no phone number for customer support. It's been a frustrating experience and I don't recommend this company to anyone who's not a professional bike assembler.

Bikesdirect.com BikesDirect Review: Lackluster Technical Support & Hidden Details

I gotta say, BikesDirect ain't the best when it comes to technical support. They got some canned answers they'll email ya, but don't expect any real help. I got myself a Motobecane Caf? Centrtury from 'em, but I couldn't get a hold of Motobecane themselves. No phone, no email, nothin'. They say to contact the dealer, but that's BikesDirect and they ain't much help either. So be careful, ya hear?

I did some diggin' and found out that Motob?cane was a French company that made all sorts of vehicles, including bikes. They went bankrupt in 1981 and got bought out by Yamaha, who reformed 'em as MBK. Nowadays, they make motorscooters. But that ain't the same as Motobecane USA, who imports bikes from Taiwan.

If you ain't handy with bikes, you might wanna go to a local shop instead. They might charge ya more, but at least they'll help ya out. I'm pretty handy myself, but I still had some issues with the bike. BikesDirect said it could take a 700x42cm tire, but I spent $100 on some 700x40cm road tires and they didn't work. The front derailleur wouldn't clear the tire in top gear, and the frame clearance in the rear was only .060" on the sides. I had a heck of a time keepin' it centered, even with the wheel straight. And I had to remove one brake pad just to get the tire off. Plus, there was this weird chip-like noise comin' from the front tire that I couldn't figure out.

So, if you're thinkin' of buyin' from BikesDirect, just be aware that they ain't gonna be much help if you got technical issues. And make sure you do your research on the bike you're gettin', 'cause they might not be tellin' ya everything.

Bikesdirect.com They are always unavailable

It's absolutely impossible to get their attention if something is wrong with your order.
In a nutshell. Had several issues with my received bicycle (torn gear cables).
I called their customer service. Only one out of my 6 calls were answered. And to be honest I was said nothing useful. They just kept transferring me from one rep to another, and it took me 2 hours. I just wasted time, nothing else.
Then I stopped paying them and on the next day, I got about ten calls from the reps! Miracle!
ps. my issue hasn't been resolved yet...

Bikesdirect.com Extremely poor customer service

I have ordered an expensive bike from BikesDirect website and was promised a 3 day delivery. When the delivery date came nothing showed up so I immediately contacted BikesDirect for more details. I was expecting at least some information but these guys simply said that they have no idea when will I get my bike!
I asked them to get some info and contact me back and they said yes but of course that never happened. It's over a month now and I still have no idea what is going on. They refuse to refund my money and ask me to be more patient! Ridiculous!

Bikesdirect.com It is impossible to contact them.

I wanted to buy a bike. I went to the local stores, looked online and finally found the perfect bike on BikesDirect. I am not a reach person, so I could not afford to buy something expensive. But there was a simple and not very expensive one on their website. So I ordered it the same day! I was dreaming of my own bike for years, so I was extremely excited about my purchase. When it arrived I was not so happy anymore. When I placed the order I picked up the red color, but they sent me the blue one. Also the wheel was a bit damaged. I wanted to contact them, but couldn't find their email or phone number on their website. I was upset and disappointed. But I finally gave up. I don't recommend BikesDirect, because it is impossible to contact them if something goes wrong. There is no customer support at all.

I recently placed the order on the website www.bikesdirect.com. I tried to pay with my Visa card, but nothing. The page showed error. I tried to reach the support team, but all agents were busy suddenly. I waited couple of hours, but nothing changed. I don’t understand why such problem occurred. The worst company and services ever, so avoid these ### and post comments about your experience with them.

Bikesdirect.com Unprofessional staff and better don't deal with them

I bought bike from the website www.bikesdirect.com, but I would advise this website. It broke after a week and these ### refused to repair it. I argued with them within several weeks, when finally the rep told me a lot of unpleasant and it was really unprofessional. I was shocked, but therefore I decided to warn other people. They are rude, unpleasant, unprofessional and better don’t deal with them or you will lose money and time. Please leave comments about your experience with this seller.

whoops- meant to say: You ordered from Biketiresdirect.com. They sell bike tires. Bikesdirect.com sells complete bikes and does not sell Continental tires by themselves. They have some pretty incredible deals on complete bikes and wheels which come with free tires.

These kinds of companies are a toss up.I myself ordered a chinese motorcycle from a wholesaler(powersportsmax), and got lucky enough to get it in one piece and working properly, but i've heard plenty of horror stories to counteract my luck. Honestly, don't bother with them, you'll just get jerked around if something goes wrong and you want it fixed. The cheaper price isn't worth the headache.
