This company contacted me in November , claiming they could assist me with my student loans. However, I later discovered that it was a scam. I've already spent $1000,00 and now I'm trying to figure out how to get my money back.

I got phone messages and calls from this company. They seem to be connected to your student loan servicer at first. I wanted help with my loans, so I freely gave my personal info over the phone. I thought it was just a verification thing with my loan service. But no, they logged into my fafsa account and checked my info. They said I qualified for student loan forgiveness. They wanted me to set up automatic payments, and then my debt would be forgiven. They wanted me to start right away and asked for my credit/debit card info. That made me worried, so I wanted to know more about who I was talking to and what company they worked for. That's when I realized I wasn't talking to my loan servicer. I was so naive... ugh! I'm not sure if this company actually does what they say, because I decided not to give my payment info to start. I did give them personal info I shouldn't have and let them log into my fafsa account without realizing it. They should tell customers upfront who they work for and explain what they're trying to do. They should say they're not connected to your loan servicer... it was so unclear on purpose! It felt really shady to me. You can apply for loan forgiveness on the fafsa website for free. The fafsa website warns about companies that try to make you pay for this service. I asked the company to email me the details of their offer, which I already gave them, and I haven't heard from them. Can you believe it?

This company helped me arrange a payment plan for my student loan forgiveness because of my disability. I just found out today, on Feb 18th, 2021, that it was a scam. I got a call from this company, Alumni Advocate Assistance LLC, saying that if I made 10 monthly payments of $100, my student loans would be forgiven. They seemed to know all the details about what I owed, but they didn't ask for my address or social security number. I know it's not safe to give out my social, but I went ahead and gave them all the information they asked for, even set up automatic withdrawals. Last week, just a few hours after I had checked my lender's website for forgiveness options, they called me. I decided to call my lender to confirm, and they told me that they don't work with any outside sources for forgiveness and never ask for money. I immediately called the police and filed a report.
