My first run-in with this bank was when I first came to America they refused to give me an account because I didn't have the magic ssn# .
I thought this was a governmental issue until I found 2 banks who would give me an account.
The latest run-in was when someone who has an account there wrote me a check. Academy Bank will not honor their own checks if the person reviving it is foreign and doesn't have a us id. I have asked 3 times in 3 different places they claim this is bank policy the last one insinuated in might be governmental but i don't buy that as the cash checking place would have cashed it if it had not been from the Academy bank they didn't like them either because they cause them headaches too,
Tourists and non us residents beware do not accept Checks from the Academy Bank!
I should receive my papers soon. Do you blame me if i never patronize their bank? Is anyone else outraged at this policy?
Academy bank is one big scam and i don't know how they even got this far without being shut down
I always wait 20 minutes or more when calling this bank, then you have to be transferred to a different department. You can't call the local number because it takes you to the central system. Not giving you an option to speak to some locally.
Your SSN is how the bank can also Identify you. There is no way in hell that any bank is going to open an account without any form of identification. And also which check cashing place did you go to lol? Because they all ask for 2 forms of ID and guess what buddy most places are like that. Welcome to America!
If you bank in the US with a 'normal' bank then YES, you have to have a ss#. Why, you ask? Cause they want to be able to hunt you down if you write bad checks or rack up a debt. And NO, NO ONE can cash a check without ID. In fact if you don’t have ID you are not going to get far in life at all. Ever heard of 'Patriot Act'? No ID, no go for NOTHING. Who the hell doesn’t have ID? That sounds like some BS right there! What kind of scam are you guys running?
If you must use a local bank, find one that will allow you to open an account. Then you can deposit the Academy Bank check and withdraw your money. Don't beat up a business because they have a policy that does not include your patronage. Just go somewhere else.
There is not enough information here to make a judgment or even an educated guess as to what is happening. However, you have to understand that when you go to a foreign country, you are at the mercy of that government. If you can't pay the price, don't venture out of your own little world.
