24 Hour Fitness not honoring all club contracts

Beware of 24 Hour Fitness - they are doing a bait & switch with their new sports & fitness club contracts. They are not honoring long time members who previously purchased 24 Hour Fitness's All-Club Lifetime Memberships. I purchased an All-Club Lifetime Membership about 8 to 10 years ago. The contract said I'd have lifetime access to ALL clubs if I paid a large fee at sign-up, as well as an annual fee. I figured since it was a nationwide chain, it was a sound choice and good motivation to keep working out.

I've been splitting my gym time between the Mall 205 24-Hour Fitness and the NE Halsey facilities which are each 3-4 miles from my home. I was excited to see the new 24-Hour Fitness going up off of SE Holgate & 99E. I stopped in for a work out after they opened in late August. The only thing noticeably different, besides the new, clean gym feel with all new stuff, was that it has a few extra machines, including 3 spin cycles with interactive video, nicer tile in the locker room, and shower towels - that's it. It was missing the row of lie-down ab machines that the other two gyms have.

Today, I went to the new SE Holgate 24-Hour Fitness gym again. They stopped me this time and said I'd have to pay extra to continue going there. I asked "Why, I have a Lifetime, All-Club 24-Hour Fitness membership?" They said because it's a 'Club-Sport' which has more square footage, newer machines, some fancy locking thing and doors on the showers! That's it - that's all! The other two gym have pretty much every other major thing that it has - except shower towels. And they want me to pay MORE THAN DOUBLE MY CURRENT ANNUAL FEE to go there! It's disgusting, big-business as usual tactics. I'll bring my own flippin' shower towel & ride in the spin room for that!

From what I've experienced, 24-Hour Fitness gyms all get run-down and filthy. After these gyms are in operation, they make very little effort to clean & disinfect them or make any major improvements . The pools and hot tubs - when they aren't undergoing maintenance - are usually very murky with hair, sand & other debris is always in them. I fished out a big bloody glob one morning. People use those things as big bath tubs. Mall 205 stopped providing shampoo long ago, just overly fragrant soap, which seeps into the pool and is awful when you are swimming. Don't ever use the floor mats, I caught some sort of fungus on my knee from one. Use a towel or find a spray bottle to wipe the machines down before you use them. The only thing positive I can say is that the check-in staff at my two regular gyms have been very nice.

24 Hour Fitness ripoff

After being a member of 24hr fitness for around nine years, I thought that they would consider my business and take care of a good customer due to them closing down the Active Club that I was using. The reason that they closed down my active club was so that they could build a brand new Sports Club right next to it. I made a call to their customer service number and they were not willing to give me any type of a deal on upgrading to the new club. I then went to the gym and talked to their manager, the manager was not willing to give me a deal either. They were basically charging me the same rate as a new customer, with the exception of saving me one dolllar in comparison to a new customer. I could not believe that they would not consider my long term business with them and that they would not give me a discount on upgrading to the new gym. I no option but to cancel my membership.

I was looking at my checking account through online banking and I noticed that 24 hr Fitness had charged me $29.00 for the next month of dues three days before I had cancelled my membership. I called customer service and complained to them, but they said that there was nothing that they could do to get me a refund. When I first enrolled with them, I paid first month dues, and last month dues. I could not believe that they will not give me a refund of the dues that were charged three days prior to me cancelling my membership with them. Unfortunately, I have a membership with them for the next two months in which I will not use. Any other legitimate company would refund a consumer the money that 24 hr refuses to refund to me.

I advise any person who is considering a membership with 24 hr fitness to look around at other clubs. For example Ballys and LaFitness. Both of these other clubs charge a lot less for their memberships and they would be willing to help out a customer that was displaced due to a gym closing down.

24 Hour Fitness steal your money and do not enroll you without your credit card #

This is my conversation to the customer service department:

After my call to customer service Ms. Joy (#T1382)

I must see it is my very unique experience with 24 hour fitness. I am very disappointed that 24 hour fitness customer service has been unable to help with my request. My request was simple, cancel my membership as I will be gone in 30 days from now.

There answer, sorry sir as per contract you have been billed last night for the next 30 days until August 15, so your membership will be valid until September 15, to cancel it you should have called on or before August 10th.

Now,
1. I dont know when I am billed because there was a change of plan etc because I havent received any bill, which you should have sent me.
2. This means that I had to call 66 days in advance, even though I understand that everything is in the contract and the last month is paid for and non-refundable.
3. When you give me the long contract, I am told to sign in at the bottom, and not details of the contract, it is standard and without it I cannot join the club
4. The lock in of the last month is practically hidden, so I am actually expected to called in 90 days prior to my last day as it is 30 days prior to my billing cycle. Considering July 15th as my billing date, it should be June 15th, and last month is from August 15th to September 15th. So that means 90 days from June 15th to September 15th. Well that's a pretty strong lock-in period.

5. This is a lock-in, forcing the customer to stay without giving in a chance to pay even a penalty and get away.

6. Last but not the least, you enforce to have a credit card on file, thus making the process invisible and more secure for you than your customers.

I like the club, the people working there, it is a great place and I am sure you have good intentions too but my experience has really made me think, if you have any customer service.

One suggestion, try putting on your bill board "Cancel anytime with a minimum 90 day notice" or "With good customer service I can bring it down to 66 days but you got to give me your credit card number for file"

May I request a reply or a call sometime or an appropriate refund for the payment deducted last night (July 15th).

I agreed with you...24hr Fitness will try to get you in and hope you forget about it and bill you every month.

I had a bad experience like you do.

Oneday my daughter told me that she would like to take the free trial for a week. I drove her to a local 24 hr fitness center and ask for the procedure. They ask for my credit card. I told the rep that my daughter only want to try it out why need my credit card. the rep said without it they will not process the free trial. ( I was dump enough to provide my credit so they can bill me). The rep sign my daughter for something that not what she wants without her knowing.

One week later I call and cancel. Then i was told you have to come in personally to cancel...What a scam!

One weekend i walked in and then to cancel then i was told you have to come in in week day M-F 9.00-6.00 pm...what the heck! I have to take a few hours off to just cancel this membership...

After we have a chance to talk to the Manager and was told that the rep has no longer with them...(probably hiding somewhere...)

Guys. beware don't let this happen to you...There is no free stuff in this world.

24 Hour Fitness they steal your last month's fee

When you sign up they charge you your last month's fee upfront.

I cancelled my membership on 6/22/09. But on 6.26 they charged my credit card $89 on 6/26 for the month of July 2009.

When I called to tell them that I had pre-paid for the last month when I signed up for membership, they gave me some non-sensical explanation about how there was a 30-day cancellation policy and therefore I was not entitled to a refund. It's bad enough that they impose a 30-day cancellation policy, but this explanation made absolutely no sense. So basically, they made me pay twice for the month of July 2009, once when I signed up and again on 6/26. The guy I spoke with on the phone could not understand how this was unfair (either an idiot or a good actor).

I believe they do this thinking that people forget that they pay for their last month upfront and when they are caught them on it, they give you this 30-day notice explanation which makes no logical sense.

24 hour fitness is dishonest and I will never join them again!

24 Hour Fitness lieing

I have been going to 24 hr fitness for over a year! I signed up because you are able to lock your account when ever you want. I love that, I go out of town a lot with my children, so why pay it monthly if I can lock it. I had no problems ever locking my account until today july 2nd 2009! Kendra from 24 hr fitness - andreson in vancouver wa. Answered and said that I can lock my account for only 3 months once a year for 7$ a month. I said o realy, is this new or somthing? When I signed up this wasnt the agreement. She said yoru the one that signed your agreement so you should know the rules. And kendra said that this has always been this way. I said no it hasnt I have dont this in the past. So I said let me talk to genille the manager. Kendra said it wont do anygood she will tel you the same. So I talked to the manager, and the manger said that I was right. That it used to be that way a couple months ago and the policy changed now you only can lock your account once a year for 3 months and you will have a monthly fee now. I am mad I singed up for one reason, that reason is to lock my account when ever I would want to with no questions asked. So I dont know if I am going to continue going to 24hr fitness.

I joined searched online last year to research memberships. I found a 90 day program for my daughter who is only home for summer from college and a month to month for myself and my son. When I went into the location to get introduced, the agreement was changed to reflect myself on a 90 day program and my daughter and son on a month to month. I cancelled my membership and assumed the others would expire.
Recently I rejoined and then decided to yet again add my son to the account for the summer. I then found out he and my daughters account were still being billed to a credit card I gave online as month to month. The credit card I used for payment at the location was no longer being charged. All the manager could say was "well, call someone in corporate" During the year they installed a new fingerprint id system to enter...which my children were not enrolled in. My agreement only allowed access to this location, so there's no reason we should not have been notified. NEVER GIVE THEM CREDIT CARD OR BANK INFORMATION AS THEY ARE VULTURES.

24 Hour Fitness crappy service!!!

I have gotten 3 phone calls TODAY for an unpaid account THAT HAS BEEN PAID. THey stated that I had to go to the local location with a copy of my bank statemnet to prove that the charge went through. I refused and gave them the confirmation ID number from my bank, and they HUNG UP ON ME! I called the customer service line. THey offered to comp me a free month, but I refused anything but a monetary refund because I am cancelling my membership. She refused and I requested a supervisor. I was on hold for 26 minutes! I then spent another 20 minutes on the phone with that "supervisor" who did nothing to resolve the issue. I spent a total of over 70 minutes on the phone. I DEMAND A REFUND FOR THOSE CELLPHONE MINUTES! THIS COMPANY SUCKS!

Your story does not make ANY sense. If you pre-pay, they can't call you and request any further payment until the limited term has been fulfilled . And even then, it requires your prior approval to make a new agreement IN PERSON as limited memberships (prepaid) are not automatically extended after the original term.

If you already pay at the beginning of your limited term agreement and 24 Hour Fitness charge your credit/debit card and refuse to issue a refund of the overcharge, simply contact your bank or credit card issuer and request a charge back from them providing them with the documentation that support your claim for the refund/charge back.

You're ONLY entitled to a refund of the membership dues that 24Hr. Fitness charged you after your original payment if you haven't agree to any new agreements. You are not entitled to any refund from cellphone minutes use for any calls you initiated.

24 Hour Fitness awful place

I suggest that you check out your personal trainer before signing a contract. I know for fact that an older trainer at Westfield - UTC has several criminal complaints against him including assault and battery. 24-Hour Fitness Management knows of the criminal complaints and the trainer is still working in close contact with many female clients. He has a police complaint for assaulting a complete stranger who was a young woman. This is public information available at the San Diego Courthouse. I suggest you protect yourself from this potentially dangerous man who has admitted under oath to battery and police reports of road rage and assault were also presented. 24-Hour Fitness will not protect you, protect yourself.

My husband and I signed up for gym membership at the Pearland 24-Hour Fitness Shaq. After a few months we realized we were not getting use out of membership, especially since I did NOT like the yoga classes.
I canceled membership several days before the automatic withdrawal, but payment was taken out anyway. I called them again, and I was told that I had to cancel 30 days before the automatic withdrawal. They told me to read the contract.

However! According to the contract, members pay the first and last month's membership upon signing up. If my last 30 days is already paid for, then shouldn't that count toward my 30 days notice? Or is it reasonable that I pay for 60 days worth of gym time after canceling membership?!

We got busy and thought we might write the $70 off, but the very next month (this March 2009) we were charged $70 again! My husband called corporate, and they promised to reverse February's payment within 5-7 days, and they told us that the pending $70 would not go through.
The payment has now gone through and my husband is going to be calling them again.

SCAM. This is one big scam to squeeze a few extra dollars out of people who they will probably never see again. This has been such a headache, I am sure they depend on people giving up. Shame on your company. I will also be writing the Better Business Bureau.

24 Hour Fitness fraud class action suit

I joined 24 Hour Fitness in June of 2008 and have a copy of the contract for an All Club membership. I joined another gym and decided to cancel my 24 Hour Fitness membership. When I called the woman I spoke to from member services told me that if I didn't cancel, she would give me a lower rate. Not at ANY point did she say in order to get this rate, I would have to downgrade my membership. I have tried to speak with them and they refuse to do anything about it. I am sick and tired of being pushed around and defrauded by these corporate giants. They have been unable to prove that I agreed to this change. They have been billing me for 6 months and I never once received paperwork to support this change. I want to file a Class Action suit against 24 Hour Fitness for fraud and would love to have people contact me to join in this fight against the corporate machine that commits crimes against innocent, hardworking Americans.

In the year 2000 I paid $800 down payment for all close membership with 24 hour fitness and was told $99 year thereafter. Now that super sport Jim seem to be taking over the previous sport in active locations I'm finding it hard to find a local gym where I'm allowed to work out. It angers me greatly every time I think about it. I will not pay them any more money and would like some kind of action taken against them.

I bought a pre-paid membership with my daughter for $1100 in 2007 with the understanding that our annual renewal fee will be $49 each for life. We have just received a notice for rate increase to $99. We'd like to join a class action law suit against this dishonest fraudulent business practice.

I paid over $600 up front to become a member at 24 hr. Fitness with an annual renewal fee of $49 for LIFE. This year they raised it to $99. Can a company do that? That's more than a 100% increase.

I had a similar experience. I became a member in 2008 and paid $699 up front to ensure a lifetime membership of $99/ year. I have my original contract and receipt in hand. This month I received a letter that in order to keep the gym facilities up, they're increasing my annual fee by 50%. I'm extremely frustrated because when I agreed to the original contract the gym manager looked me in the eyes and guaranteed that by paying $699 up front I was locked in for life. I re-read the fine print and couldn't find any rationale to explain how 24 hour fitness can justify the increase. Clearly this is a shady business model.

I signed up a life time contract with 24 Hour in October 2007 by an initial payment of $600 for the first three years and then $29 annual fee starting October 2010. Recently, I received a letter from 24 Hour to notify me that it is necessary for them to increase the annual fee to $59. The problem is not the amount but is how often they will keep increasing the fee. If they are doing illegal increase, I should not remain silent. I will register for the class action law suit against this kind of practice of 24 hour at sueeasy.com as posted by winson2fat. In the meantime, I think I still need to pay the $59 to keep me membership alive, don't I?

To those who thought they have locked in a guaranteed rate after an initial large payment was due and now see their renewal have increased. Please take the time to register for a class action law suit at http://www.sueeasy.com/class_action_detail.php?case_id=223. Clearly there is misrepresentation by the sales people who told many members their initial large payment will secure a life time of locked in rate only to be blindsided by the fine print in the contract to allow for dues increase. Enough people who declare they were told one thing and given another is misrepresentation and could be a legal basis for the class action lawsuit.

I've been a member when it was Family Fitness back in 1990. My membership is an active membership. Before it changed to 24 hour fitness I paid in upgrade memberships, to get a sweet deal which included me, my husband and my daughter for $99.00 a year. Now that it change to 24 hour fitness and most are now sports. To be able to go to these sports facility I now have to pay another upgrade. This should not be the case for me or for any other member who joined and was promised to be able to go to any 24 hour fitness.

I have the same situation as everyone else. Joined Golds Gym originally back in 1996 in Portland, OR. In 1998 they were bought out by 24 Hour Fitness. My membership was "grandfathered" into the 24 Hour Fitness programs. 1-2 years later I found out that in order to go to all gyms I had to upgrade since they only converted me to the original gym I signed with at Golds. Irony is with Golds I had an all club membership. I was upset but had no choice so I paid for one of their pre-paid plans to lock in on a low annual renewal rate. That member stated all club membership. This was [protected] time frame. History states they did not have Super Sport or Ultra Sport gyms at that time. Now Portland only has 1-2 Sport gyms and all have "upgraded" to Super Sport gyms. Once again they screwed me with their claim that I can only go to Sport gyms since that was the type of gym my membership was back in [protected] time frame. They have "grandfathered" me in once again to the gym I originally joined which is a Super Sport gym now, however I can only go to that Super Sport gym and all Sport or Active gyms. Once again though Portland only has Super Sport gyms for the most part so my membership just like each of you is relegated to a minimal amount of gym access rather than the original "all" club membership that we signed up for and paid all these years to receive. I would love to know how things progress on your findings on how to resolve this issue with 24 Hour Fitness.

24 Hour Fitness Manager Jason

I just finish working overtime, & went to work out @ gym. I wanted to pay off bill, for m.ship. But to my surpise, the manager Jason was @ front desk working. Iwanted to pay bill on m.ship but he said to come back later this week. I told him I work @ wheeler & had to stop @ parents house. He said go & pay it @ mililani, that's the closet for you. I wanted to pay it now since I'm here @ gym. He called me stupid/dumb person who wouldn't listen to him. I wanted to wait for him after work & wanted to beat the #$%^&out of him. But some of the members heard him & said it's not worth it. 24 hrfitness won't do anything to him. Only talk. Some of members are going to power house gym cause it's more friendly/cleaner & cheaper. Please do something about manager or lots of members will quit 24 hrfitness.

I had just gotten off the plane, while protecting our country. (Iran). I went w/some of my friends to the gym where my uncle worked. When I got there, there was another person working. I asked him about the person that worked @ night, & Paul said he quit. Said he wasn't a good worker. That got me angry, & both my friends, & I told him that was my uncle. My friends told Paul my uncle was a very good worker, & would go out of his way to help members. Well I didn't have my membership w/me, only towel & military ID. Paul said no membership no work out. I even explained to him, that I came off the plane & came here to lift w/friends. He insisted no membership no lift. My best friend, wanted to beat the !@#$%^out of him. But told him (my friend) that he was a lapd cop.

while we were leaving the gym, my husband saw manager Jason grab a lump some of $$$$ and shoved it into back pack. Then Jason grabbed boxes of products and put into back pack. When approach from my husband, he told him to mind his own business, and to get lost. Both my husband & I are retired from law enforcement, and he knows what he saw. We never went back although we been members for 10 years. We heard about another gym from a front desk who just quit (Bryan). Such a nice young man I wish he was still there. We saw him the other day coaching my nephew & he said to go power house gym. We went back to let Jason know, & he was very rude. Go ahead, I don't care...

I WANTED TO WORK OUT EARLY MORNING (SATURDAY), CAUSE THAT NICE MAN (BRYAN) SAID IT'S NOT CROWED. TO MY SURPRISE, HE QUIT. I TOLD THE NIGHT DESK I'VE LOST MY MEMBERSHIP CARD & NEED TO ORDER A NEW ONE. SHE SAID THAT THEY WERE TOLD NO ID/MEMBERSHIP NO WORK OUT IN GYM. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO HER, I'VE LOST MY CARD & WANTED TO ORDER ANOTHER. SHE KEPT SAYING ON-&-ON ABOUT WHAT JASON/KEALA TOLD HER. NOW I KNOW WHY SO MANY MEMBERS ARE CANCELING & GOING TO POWER HOUSE GYM/CURVES. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO BRYAN. EVEN EMPLOYEES ARE LEAVING THEIR JOBS HERE @ 24 HRFITNESS IN HAWAII KAI. WHAT A SHAME.

I've heard that one of my sons coaches worked @ 24 hrfitess @ Hi Kai. I wanted to buy a membership for couple of years, but found out that the coach I knew quit. When asked about that person, the manager (jason) was very -very rude. He told be non-of your business, & talked really bad about him. I know the facts, that he was very good @ his job from other people. When jason was telling me all the bull@#$%^&, about this prson I told him to stop. He was so rude I had to write & let people know about this kind of manager. (PEOPLE PLEASE DON'T APPLY @ HI KAI 24 HRFITNESS. THE EMPLOYEES ARE SO RUDE/IN POLITE, ETC.)

I totally agree. I went to the manager with a problem here in Cedar Hills, TX and he was extremely rude and unconcerned about my issue, he didn't even make eye contact with me. The issue was that the child care center wouldn't allow my child to stay (full) and I paid for training on every Tues and Thurs. So in other words, its okay to take my money (and training isn't cheap) with a smile but I need to leave my child elsewhere when I train?

24 Hour Fitness unauthorized charges

I faxed in my cancellation to 24 hour fitness in Dec of 06 after 1 year with the club. My cancellation was due to the fact that I had left the state and moved to a state where 24 hour fitness wasn't available. I called the company in January and they said they hadn't received my fax. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me my account was canceled and that a check was on its way. I called again in March and they tried canceling it on Mar 26. I told them I had proof of a fax in Dec and they said 'sorry it's already canceled.' I'm currently waiting for a call back from their 'supervisors.'

This company is going to scam you out of your money 24$ at a time. Don't sign up unless you are paying monthly. Don't pay them large chunks of money for long term memberships, because you won't see it back for months, and by the time you do it will be 10% less than expected.

After my previous complaint (see 8/21/07) against the Ft Worth TX 24 Hr Fitness I was told by management that I would not be charged for not giving 30 days notice before leaving and that I would be reimbursed for the month of August since I was threatened with having my membership revoked and could not use the gym for August and had to go somewhere else and pay for a membership. Of course they are not only accusing and rude without reason... they are also dishonest and charged my account anyway. I tried to get something in writing from them but that was not possible and getting a hold of someone at corporate is also impossible. Basically they ripped me off and that money was way more important than my longtime membership and all of the good advertising that I had given them as a figure competitor.

I also had unauthorized charges debited. Can someone tell me what the corporate number is to make the complaint. I asked the manager and he told me it is on the website? I can not find it or a complaint section.

24 Hour Fitness terrible company

We got busy and thought we might write the $70 off, but the very next month (this March 2017) we were charged $70 again!

Don't believe anything they promise when they sign you up for membership.

1. I signed up for membership mid-June of 2017 for 1 year membership, at the time I wanted my 1 year membership to end in July 1st of 2017, so I said I would come back to sign up in July, the salesman said don't worry we will bump your deadline to July 1st 2017, a year later, they claim that never happened and would end my membership in mid-June.

2. I also referred a friend in March of 2017, at the time they were running a promo where if you refer someone you get two weeks added to your membership, at the time the salesman said the 2 weeks will be added a month later, now it's been 3 months I'm asking where did the free 2 weeks went, again, they claim this never happened, said company never ran such a promo, and even called me a liar!?

I have dealt with many gyms, NYSC, BSC, crunch, if they promised something they always end up delivering, this is the first for me where before you sign up they are nice, smiles, and tries to sweeten the contract but after you sign up all the "Extras" are non-existent... It's scary and sad to learn people can't be trusted

Treadmills are poorly maintained and a safety hazard. They don't have enough to begin with and many of the ones that are open are not fit to run on because the belts slip. That is a serious safety hazard. I've pointed that out many times to staff but I come in the next day and the machine is still open and still not working properly. When they do put a sign on a machine that it is not working, it is weeks before they fix it. VERY poor service and treatment of guests.

I recently brought my children in to the kids club at this 24 hour fitness location . My issueisn't with the poor girl who had the flu and had to consistently expell her bowels. No my issue is with the inconsiderate management who forced this poor girl to stay as she vomitted simply because out of the 20+ employees working there, not one wanted to run the kids club. I came in the next day, she wasn't there to my relief. So I thought. They had her towards what they thought would be a location noone could hear as what appeared to be the manager yelling at this girl, who looked like she was losing this viral battle. Saying that her attitude was unacceptable, that she needs to stick it out because there is noone to cover for her. I'm sorry, but I don't know exactly what kind of attitude your supposed to have with such an ailment, and I'm not gonna put my kids at the risk of catching such q devastating flu because the management is more concerned with employees in the area sick and battered. I don't think that someone in that condition is fit to watch kids period. I would be more than happy to have a family member, or friend watch my kids just to allow this strong woman to get back on her feet. I will be ending my membership, cause I don't want any part of a business who has no respect for their workers. Get it together 24, your pathetic and unbelievable. Truly disgusted by their ethics. Hope you get better girl, I'm sorry this is something your subjected to. You should have equal rights as anyone in the workplace. I have given you my card, and as a lawyer I would love to run these guys into the dirt.

I signed up a contract with 24 hour fitness a month after my other 2 friends 3 years ago. They both got a very good deal with cheaper monthly dues and a "way cheaper" renewal rate than what I got.

This month, they both renewed their contract with perferred rate, I called the customer service, explained about the situation, yet they told me there is nothing they can do to match the offer my friends got. and yet I have a family plan with 4 people on board, I guess 24-hour fitness just don't care about losing business, and just want to screw people all the way once the customers innocently signed up a lame contract.

I may have to reconsider my fitness needs and take my business elsewhere. and when I called the customer rep did not even speak good english, plus the bad customer service.

Dear readers, just look at the capital headlines if you don't have time for the details.
(A) bad salesperson - the sales person told me renewal is $49 per year. I only found out now that renewal is $99.
(B) harassing phone calls - they set up a reminder for renewal. That reminder is an alarm. It calls me twice a day with a voice message to renew. Twice a day everyday for 2 weeks. I asked them to put me on no call list - will have to see the result of that.
(C) incompetent customer service from inida - twice i have called them and asked them to send me my original contract. Twice they told me they would send it and it'd take 5-7 days. I waited two weeks. Twice i asked for a supervisor, they told me no supervisor available and please call back.
(D) shady or incompetent renewal - after unresolved situation with india customer serive - i called corporate (It turned out they are also from india) and explained the recent situation and told the representative that i am interested in keeping my membership and renew only if it's $49. She told me "sorry for the (Recent) trouble with customer service, at this time i can renew for you at $49". I repeated that 3 times on the phone call: (1) to her directly (2)told her again that i need her to be on hold for 2 minutes to see if my wife will renew at $49 (3) i want to know she is charging only $49. She asked for my credit card info and went ahead and charge at $99 even i repeatedly told her $49. At no time during this phone call that she told me that it is not $49. She only told me that she charged $99 after i asked her again how much she's charged.
(E) supervisor tried to make me keep my renewal at $99 by telling that i will lose my choice to renew if he has to give me the refund.
- at this time, he can't do anything for me. He told me that he can refund the $99 that her employee charged. But i will lose the choice to renew my contract. I told him according to what they have been telling me, i should have the next 90 days to make the decision to renew. Why is he telling me that the refund (Which they screwed up to begin with) will void my choice to renew within next 90 days. Only then, he told me that he can change it so i have that choice for the next 90 days.

All I want is a simple workout, a weight room, a water fountain, maybe a shower. I'm not picky. And you may want the same. Walk into a 24 hour fitness, and you will find a room full of salesmen, racks full of get-leans, get-bulked, and get-laids, a meat market of fake tans, and somewhere behind the marketing mahem a line full of people looking to use the bench press. And yes the price seems right, and at 3AM all of those salesmen go home and than you can fit in your workout. But when you ask to tour the facilities and you sit down with your beefcake of a tour guide, ask yourself why they want the down payment, why they have 10 people competing over your business, why is the special signup deal is about to end(there will be a signup deal that is about to end), why does the salesperson keep calling, why do you have to set up a direct payment account, why do they charge for two months in advance.

You want to workout, you are willing to pay to workout, you don't need to be put through the scheme. You don't need to hire a lawyer and cancel your credit card to end your membership. You just want to work out. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

24 hour fitness complaint

I have been a member of this 25 Hour Fitness Club for over a year. This club has consistantly gone down hill from a cleanliness standpoint. The rest rooms are ALWAYS without toliet paper and when you complain to the front desk they are very rude and state "well we have some in boxes". This certainly doesn't help the poor individual that requires toilet tissue at the time. The floors are filthy, the woman's bathroom sanitary box is not changed frequently, needless to say the smell isn't pleasant. I have brought this to the attention of the manager on several occassions and the new woman who heads up the cleaning services who quite frankly could care less.

I have spoken with many other members of this club and they all share the same as what I've expressed. I hear the men's bathroom is worse that what I've described.

If this club does not take action immediately to address the unsanitary conditions, I will report them to state health inspectors office.

I have no problem taking photos to show proof of my claims, however, it does state that 24 hr does not allow any photographs to be taken in the club so if anyone has an ideas on how to get around this, please share them.

24 Hour Fitness bad customer service

I have been trying to put a hold on my membership for several months; each time they tell me that the freeze was put yet keep charging my card! When I call to ask WTF - they tell me that "their records do not show that a hold on the membership was requested." I have called them, I went there personally, I submitted several e-mails - same song and dance - they keep charging me! Plus, they are ALWAYS RUDE! What a bunch of ###s - I hope they will get a class action against them soon! Running their business like that - I hope people will figure out what a bunch of ###s they are and put them out of business.

Recently I had occasion to come to the Center gym on a Thursday night and have a discouraging incident occur at the front desk.

I think I was at the counter for close to 10 minutes - which is by far the longest I have ever had to wait. But what was more of a concern is the fact that not only was I standing at the register side of the counter with noone helping me for a while. I was essentially ignored by the woman at the counter who never said
anything to me at all.. XXXX who was working the counter, never ever looked my way, explained that she could not help me much less that someone was on their way to help me check in myself and my child. I guess the expectation was that I should stand there endlessly waiting for an explanation, some
acknowledgement, some courtesy.

This is why after 5 minutes of standing by without any attention whatsoever, I moved over behind 3 other people (who had arrived after me and were being assisted) with getting access into the gym. I then had to stand there for another 5 minutes and when XXXX (the counselor) finally came to assist me she immediately told me she could not help me and that I had to go back over to the register to be helped (now behind 2 other people). When I explained that I had been there prior and she ignored me then, she was completely uncontrite, a tad bit rude and basically indicated that it was my tough luck and she owed me nothing at all - not an apology, not courtesy, much less assistance because she is "a counselor". I don't exactly know what her comment meant - but I am wondering if perhaps there is a new definition for that word now a days? Maybe her definition is someone who is professional, decent and "helfpul" when it suits them.

In any event, I have found that while the Center gym is great as far as layout/design, equipment, cleanliness and size - all great things! Some of the counter customer service is lacking in efficiency and courtesy (minus a few great quality individuals). There have been other confusing and congested incidents but hey things happen and time passes but this incident was by far the most unacceptable and frustrating to date.

So, suffice it to say you can sign me ignored and disgruntled...

Monthly payments had been deducted from my credit card by 24hr fitness for over 18 years. I hardly used the services. About 6 years ago I started to take 2 yoga classes a week, and then they narrowed my 2 classes down to 1. I continued to go until for health and other personal reasons I did not go to the one yoga class any more. In 2011 I went back because they had started a new class, so I could go to 2 a week. It was then when I was told that my membership had been terminated because they had not been able to collect payments. I reviewed my statement and realized that when banks issue new cards they have a new number. I went back to the gym and showed them, I made several phone calls, I sent a couple of emails and I asked them for a copy of the letter they should have sent me to let me know they had not received my payment with no results. They had the correct address, but yet, no letter was sent. Why? They were just trying to get me to pay $29.99 a month instead of my $15.00. My husband has a membership also, but they still want $29.95 a month, because the employees are not interested in anyone, but they commission they are getting in their pockets with new clients only. Has anything been solved? I have read many of your complaints here.

Ive had horrible experiences with 24 hour fitness and the information they gave me at the corporate office was not accurate. Their "super sports" are sometimes worse than the regular ones. The gym I used to go to would have band-aids in the pool, sweaty machines, green hot tub water...it was disgusting. Also their cleaning crew would sometimes clean in the girls locker room and they wouldn't get out for 5 minutes or even offer me a room to change in. They wanted me to wait 30 minutes for them to clean. As I understand it's a job that needs to be done, it was like 4am (those of us who like to work out early) and they should have provided some type of changing area. When I brought this complaint to the management they also said the people shouldn't have been cleaning at that time since early risers start to come at that time. I can say though, the gym has gotten better within the last 2 years, at least it did for me.

I have had the worst expericane with 24 Hour fitness in Mesquite TX. Whatever you dont pay them any money up front and dont pay them in cash Since they will claim nothing was paid and cancel your membership. Without a notification letter saying that you are about to get terminated from contract and the customer services SUCKS they dont know what they are doing and put you on hold and then promise that some one will call you back ... NO ONE EVER CALLS BACK! The club mangers DONT care about their current customers only New ones since they are tryin to get their MONEY SCREW the CURRENT CUSTOMERS... I am taking my situation with the state to file a complain every body needs to do the same its not fair that they can do this to their customers.

24 Hour Fitness terrible service from manager

So today I stopped at the 24 Hour Fitness, Miramar, FL location, that recently opened a few months ago and decided to go check out to see if I would switch from LA Fitness. I walk in, filled in some info and waited about 5-10 mins which I really didn't mind at all since I figured the place was new, probably didn't have all the sales agents or maybe they were all busy. A guy came, named Rob, walked in front of me and said "what’s up" which felt a bit rude. I then cordially extended my hand, shock his hand and said "how you doing, I would like to check out the gym please". Initially I thought, "This must be the new guy" and decided to ignore it. He walked me around and showed me the placed without going into much detail which I actually prefer since I like to ask questions if I have any instead of being told everything about it. Once we were done, he stayed quiet so I asked if they had any specials and he says "$65 startup, well, $64 really, and then $29.99/month. The $64 covers first and last month" in which I said "oh, same as LA Fitness basically. " I honestly don't understand how this comment could have made him react like this but he pauses and says " I really don't care if you think is the same or not" then he walks me by the stairs, goes in a different direction and says "take care buddy". I kept walking a bit shocked at his response and at the undeserved and careless service. Once I stepped into the stairs he comes back and says "well, how much were you thinking about paying" to which I replied "well maybe around $20-$25 and then I said "I know you probably don't care if is the same as LA Fitness or not but it’s a bit rude to say that to a customer". He then passed me while going down the stairs as to lead me outside and replied "Well, I really don't care what you think. You came here with this attitude from the beginning" and kept walking. I asked "what attitude?" and he said "You came here like you just wanted to checkout the place and that’s it". I asked again, "what attitude?" and then said "Well, I just really wanted to check out the place. What were you expecting me to do? Ask you 100 questions?" in which he said "Yes. I would have go in deep about some things". And I explained to him that just because you don't ask questions about things doesn't mean you are not interested. I have been a member of LA Fitness for 8 years and wanted to switch to 24 Fitness because it is about 1 mile from my house and is 24 hours and just wanted to see if it offered the same accommodations, which it does. I don't need to ask him questions about anything since I have been a member of a very similar gym for too many years and I know what everything is for and how it works. He kept ranting and trying to justify how he really doesn't care at all what I think and pointed at the door and said if I don't like it the door is there and told me I could leave. I then said that I was not going to allow somebody to speak to me like that without a reason and that I would like to speak to his manager. With a very arrogant attitude he pointed at this ID badge who said "Manager" and said "I AM the manager". This continued and he asked me how much do I make and started making comments about how much he makes and that he drives a Range Rover and makes over $250, 000 a year and that he could care less if I subscribe or not since $60 won't make a difference to him. How he doesn't care what I think or who I talk to there. All this was happened in the front desk and the receptionist, Tasha, and a customer who happens to be a friend of mine from LA Fitness!
Honestly at this point I was incredibly furious and decided to ignore any further remarks to avoid a confrontation. I couldn't believe how arrogant this guy was and how he was allowed to work your place by treating customers like that. In my entire life I have never felt offended, mistreated and insulted enough so to officially file a complaint. This was at a location that just recently opened and the bad publicity won't help. It is very frustrating the fact that I do not feel comfortable to give my money to 24 Fitness and this location just because of the unpleasant service this gentleman provided me with. I really would like to know how your company would handle this. I’m not sure if this guy is a great sales men or not, but one unsatisfied customer speaks louder than 100 satisfied ones. I’m hoping to get a response from you within a reasonable time and see how you are going to handle this since I still would like to join your gym but would feel terribly uncomfortable with this gentleman there.

If this happens, use your cell phone and call corporate.

Have them call the 24 you are at and have them speak with you and the ### on speaker. See what happens then.

24 Hour Fitness intentional mis-billing

Essentially this is billing harassment. (1) They will continue to bill you checking account after they are supposed to stop (2) They will lose payment records and repeatably ask for proof. I'm convinced it is in their business model to abuse clients that have negotiated a low annual payment but attend thief facilities frequently. Statistically they will encourage a people to quit that provide low revenue. This is evil and must be against the law. If you are experiencing these abuses, i encourage you to submit a complaint with your state attorney general.

My son was home from college and I spoke with a 24-hour Fitness rep in person at their Boulder, CO facility to purchase two months of workout time. I spoke with a very friendly woman who had me pay approx. $80 for two months of membership — she never mentioned that I had to cancel the membership so I wouldn’t be charged monthly, nor did she tell me that the membership would have to be cancelled by a specific date. So, yesterday, on my online banking statement, is a monthly (additional) charge for $39.99. I immediately call the manager, Ross Paller, (after talking to two other people about this), and he just reads from his list of answers, and will not hear what I am saying to him about his rep’s mistake. So I call the corporate headquarters in California, and I get the same thing after 20 minutes on the phone explaining (yet again) the circumstance. I’ve heard about this company’s tactics before but went there because it’s the closest gym to us geographically. But here’s what I’m going to do: I’ve just heard of a person who is having success in building a class-action law suit against these business practices of 24-hour Fitness. I’m giving her a call today and will be among those people looking to file that suit...hoping that with enough complaints, a law firm will pick it up as a money-maker for them. This type of membership abuse must end, and I would strongly suggest to all those who have had bad experiences with 24-hour Fitness and have not done anything, to post your complaint to this website: www.sueeasy.com so it can be referenced in the future. I’m also filing a complaint with the Colorado Secretary of State which handles business practices within the state. Not only is this a stupid business practice, I believe it to be anti-community. That which they say is so important to 24-hour Fitness. Let’s look at the numbers: Because they won’t return my $39.99, they have now lost my business forever, and the business of my wife and two teenagers. And, being a creative director for a very long time, I have a LOT of contacts, and you can be sure that everyone of those 8, 000+ people on my email list will hear about this story. How much money will they lose because they’re so greedy not to return $39.99. What a lack of common sense!

I have a similar situation and I am trying to get a class action lawsuit started. If enough people post their case on www.sueeasy.com it can possibly be picked up by a participating law firm. My post can be found through the following link:

24 Hour Fitness failed to deliver, then took more

About this time last year I joined 24 Hour Fitness with my husband. Along with our monthly memberships, I paid $100 extra for five training sessions to get me "kickstarted". The first trainer assumed, I guess because I wore t-shirts and sweats to work out instead of Nike gear, that I was a drug dealer and asked if he could buy some drugs from me in a "training" session. I don't sell drugs. He failed to appear for our second appointment, and after the third time we got together he quit working there. I was allowed to start over with another trainer, who was much nicer, but also quit after 4 sessions. I never got the info sheet he was to give me at the last session to remind me what I had done in the other sessions.

In the meantime my husband had a near-hypothermia experience in the pool and got a rash, we assume from the handle of an exercycle.

I tried to use the rest of the club and not belabor the point with the weights, but the only time that it's convenient to go there, it's so crowded you can't get onto the cardio machine you want, whether it's the stair stepper or the elliptical ski machine. I also tried the yoga class, but again it was so crowded as to be embarrassing to crowd in even more.

Finally I wanted to cancel my membership and called them October 5, only to receive my November credit card bill with a charge from 24 Hour Fitness for my month's membership fee, charged on October 25. I called the club and apparently that's standard practice and part of the small print in the contract. I consider it a raspberry in the face after the shoddy service I received there. I spoke to one "manager" who wanted to meet with me to refund part of my money, but the day I was to meet him I called the club to reschedule and there was no answer at all (I dialed twice). Just today I spoke to another "manager" there, since the one I spoke to ten days ago doesn't work there anymore either, and he told me there was no way he could help me.

24 Hour Fitness scary employees

I was member and was treated the way many employees were who have won suits against them. I rebuffed a trainer employed at 24 who flirted with me, followed me home when he saw me walking, physically hugged me or tried to on two occasions. A while after rejecting him he screamed at me and threatened me at the gym and then in my neighborhood (he lives near me). I immediately filed a complaint regarding his behavior with management (their own policy states this type of behavior is not allowed at the gym). Then he threatened me outside the gym. I eventually hired an attorney at a great expense who drafted a letter telling this man we wanted the harassment and slander (by this time he was slandering me at the gym) to cease or the next step was a restraining order. I notified 24-Hour Fitness of my need to obtain an attorney and two weeks later a "new" manager escorted me out of the gym and told me not to return. After numerous calls I was told my file was tagged and only one person could talk to me. I withdrew my membership after I was given no reason for the escort out of the club and was told I had violated something which was false.
The trainer continued stalking and harassing me. I obtained a TRO=Temporary Restraining Order and at the Hearing for an PRO he admitted to battery on someone else and a police complaint indicated another assault on a woman during Road rage.
During the case he stated, "this all started at 24-Hour Fitness, " and produced my name and membership status and 3 letters from other members complaining about me. He stated that I was "kicked out of 24-Hour Fitness and was never allowed to join another one." He produced a document obtained from 24-Hour Fitness that stated my membership status, "revoked." As his defense was filled with documents from 24-Hour Fitness and the fact they bullied the "whistle blower" me, when I complained makes me believe he has made them party to a law suit. He had solicited the letters from friends and co-workers (all dated after my complaints to management) which I never had a chance to defend, in order to "kick me out" of the gym. Recently I rejoined the gym and I told them I was a previous member and I still live at the same address. They signed me up without incident. So at the very least this man is using information from 24 hour fitness to slander and harass me.

This is a man the gym has hailed as an "Ambassador to the China Olympics." He is now being investigated by the DA for violation of the Court Order (TRO). This would be egg on their face. They supported a guy who now has an admission of battery, another police report of Battery with Road Rage, and an investigation by the DA for violating the TRO. ALL PUBLIC RECORD at the San Diego Civil Division. He was sent to China by 24 hour fitness after a Police Complaint for Assault and Battery.

Fitness industry rife with corruption: banking in on fatness not fitness (they do not want you to be fit or they make no money). No one has taken on this organization because they spend a lot on advertising. Numerous women in my region were stalked by employees of 24-Hour Fitness who got their home addresses after they scanned into the club with their membership card.
The fitness industry is rife with sexual harassment and unfair practices. They are not about fitness but about sales. Buyer beware.

All clubs have sketchy employees. I have had a restraining order against the head trainer at 24 Hour Fitness, UTC/Westfield in San Diego, CA. This same trainer has several police reports for assault, battery and road rage. When I brought this information (including police reports and court records) to the highest levels at 24 Hour Fitness - HR and legal - they did nothing but harass me (kill the messenger). Probably because this trainer makes them money and I was grandfathered in at a ridiculously low price. Corrupt company overall. Also a pattern with employees. A women at my new gym (not 24) said that employees look up hot women and get their addresses and personal information.

I agree.

I was harassed by an employee at the Irvine Ultra Sport location. My fellow coworkers who also use this gym were sexually harassed by the same membership sales associate. I have reached out to numerous managers, corporate HR, and their 1-800 numbers to no avail. In addition, they charged me $160 for one month's dues. I should be paying $39.99. Had I known this gym was filled with slimy men I would have never signed up. There is something horribly wrong with this company.

AVOID 24 Fitness at ALL COSTS.

I agree.

I am a member of the Agassi Super Sport in Laguna Niguel. I had an employee their threaten my life multiple times and even leave me notes at the club.

This person 'Rudy' even admitted to the HR person he left me notes and one night they had on tape him following me out to my car, to threaten me.

He wants to kill me because I believe God is love and he feels it is people such as myself that has allowed gays into the church. He works the front desk so I could not avoid him. Initially they made a deal with me which was that he would not be allowed back at this particular location as he works the front desk in Laguna Hills.

Then they started scheduling him again, and despite the repeated threats to me, he is back at the location.

The manager at this location simply does not care, ignored my concerns for myself and others. He (Rudy) is mentally distraught and might decide to take it out on himself or others. Anyone who dares to have a different view on God. They tell me that he is a dependable employee.

Let this serve notice that I have emailed, spoken on the phone to alert 24 Hour Fitness at the corporate offices, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Hills location.

They 24 Hour Fitness are aware of the threatening notes, and watched a video tape of his pursuing me. They do not care about this ticking time bomb.

wow, how come the complaint before me was from San Diego as well? is there some sketchy about the 24 hour fitnesses in san diego or something?

There is a patron who exercises with headphones on and he is loud and
obnoxious and starts singing in dancing loudly in my face and others
around me.

since we are on exercise bikes it is hard to move,
especially since he usualy comes after people have been there for 10
or so minutes. i havent beeen to the gym in almost 6 months and this
man finds me.

All i did was raise my index finger to my mouth, and the man came up
and threatened me with bashing my face in. i told him that i studied
law and that assult doesnt require violence, all it needed was verbal
threats. he backs off, leaves, comes back, and patrick kelley comes,
all the while my increased heartrate of 160 starts to subside and he
starts reprimanding me, saying he doesnt believe that his friend
threatened me, (he mentioned the man was hisfriend) asking me to
divulge private informations in front of other patrons. i told him to
wait till i was finished, that i checked in legally, showed him my
elevated heartrate, and i was forced to leave.

I am now afraid to go back to this 24 hour fitness, i was treated
unfairly, the man who harassed and assaulted me was hardly batted an
eye.

I dont want to make a big PR thing out of this but i will, i have
never been so humiliated, degraded, harassed, bothered, and assaulted
in such a short time span in my entire life.

i would not be surprised if this wasnt the first time you were
complained to be out this person, and if i am the first i am certain i
will not be the last, at first i thought the guy was 'slow' or had
some kind of problem but he seems to be completely intenionally aware
of his distraction and the nuisance he caused.

This has been going on for over a year and i never said anything, but
when i come back to the gym that i havent been to in 6 months, and
then i get yelled and sung and annoyed and harassed and assaulted and
then reprimanded by the biased manager, i have a problem.

The only reason the man left me alone and didnt keep saying he was
gonna "BASH MY FACE IN" was because i told him i knew assault only
required the threat of violence, not actual violence.and it was he
only left me alone for a small reprieve to call his friend the manager
to humiliate me

24 Hour Fitness Public health warning

Public health warning!

As of saturday january 3, 2009 the lavatory and shower facilities at the 24 fitness gym located at 8612 santa monica, west hollywood, ca do not have any soap for the patrons. I was informed by the staff that there would not be any soap available for the next two days! This poses a severe public health risk for those who use this gym. We are in the height of the cold and flue season and it is well documented that these types of illnesses can be transmitted by handling gym equipment. Further, the occurrence of skin bourn staff infections are prevalent in the population los angeles and west hollywood.

The lack of concern and problem solving skills by the staff and management of this facility is putting their membership and the population of our city at risk.

Warning: you are putting your health at risk by using this gym while these conditions exist!

I am a long time member of club 501 here in San Leandro CA. Unfortunately, I'm dismembering myself from them due to lack of concern from the managemen staff regarding health issue. I saw a gentelman who had blood on the work out bench and just got up and walk away. The problem here is their chemical cleaning agent is so diluted with water that it is no longer a cleaning solution. Can you amazing walking home and feeling weak a few days later and then found out you have an incurable desease that you picked up from Blood Born?
These gym or corporation are trying to save cost and doesn't care about the well being of the general populaion Be careful when working out...Especially FLU season is upon us

24 Hour Fitness scam and cheating

I tried out the 24 Hour Fitness here in Scottsdale after seeing a trial month offer. But after 2 weeks I decided that I liked the Village Health and Racquet Club a lot better. When I went to go cancel my account, they told me that I would be forced into a 6 month membership.

What good is the trial then? Eventually after arguing, they canceled my membership. By trial, I guess they mean that they will put you on 'trial' and force you to defend yourself for even trying out their cruddy establishment.

Somebody needs to file a class action lawsuit against 24 hour fitness for their Super Sport location fees. They tricked us years ago into buying a lifetime membership and now that they are opening up super sports all over the place, they are dishonoring the contract. Their justification: more square footage and a basketball court! Join me as I fight this apparent breach of contract. Also, if there is a pending / current class action lawsuit against 24 hour fitness, please let me know of it. You can contact me at charlesjclose@yahoo.com

24 Hour Fitness restriction of services

I have been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for over 20 years and was told the advantage of this membership was the number of gyms across the nation that I could use. I recently visited the new 24 Hour Fitness on ElCamino Real in Millbrae, CA. The sign on the building showed the 24 Hour logo, but when I attemped to sign in with my membership card, I was told that this was a 'sport' gym and if I wanted to use it, even though I was a 24 Hour member that I would need to pay an additional $10.00. I already pay an annual fee and was never notified that I would be restricted from certain 24 Hour gyms. This is a very nice facility, but the one I ended up going to in Serramonte was filthy. Isn't this prohibited use of 24 Hour centers a breech of my original contract? These 'sport' centers should not be using the 24 Hour logo if they are restricting their customers from using the facility.

I signed up in November 2000 with an "all fitness clubs and sport club" membership and years later they came up with the "Super Sport" title on a club that is nearly identical to the regular club. Now they want me to pay more. I spent half an hour discussing this issue with their complaint department and was told to go pound sand. Terrible customer service. I plan on taking them to court.

Yes here we are nearly 2012, and i have been with 24 hour fitness for nearly 10 years. How do they repay me you ask? Well for starters, all the gyms that have sport club amenities in orange county/Irvine area are converted to Super or Ultra sports. For the lovely price of an extra $20 or $50 dollars, depending on ultra or super, I can upgrade my membership to take advantage of the amenities I already pay for. Or better yet, I can jump on the 405 and drive an hour during traffic hour to go to an accommodating all club sport fitness. No thanks, I will gladly pay more for LA fitness now..Have a good life 24 hour!

I have an "All Club" membership providing unlimited access to clubs around the United States. 24 hours is now going through conversion of some of their clubs into SUPER Club. Personally, I have seen some clubs with not much of a change and some with a major rehab. either way, i see no reason to be excluded from any club that was already in operation at the time i signed the agreement. however, i am now excluded even fro clubs in my area which i used to visit from time to time. I believe that 14 hour fitness is in violation of the written agreement and especially the spirit of the spirit in which the contract was presented to me at the time of sign up. i was assured time and again that my membership cost will not change and I will be able to visit any 24 hr's club, now in existence, and any one built in the future.

I strongly agree. If a class action is started, count me in. This is a rip off. I thought I was the only one that was denied admission to these new "Super Sports". I've been with 24 hour fitness for 12 years, and my contract clearly says I have unlimited access to ALL the centers. I'm not about to drop another $10 to "upgrade".

I have a membership that also provides for unlimited access to clubs around the United States. However, with the advent of the SUPER Club, now these memberships which should be grandfathered, cost more money to suposedly "upgrade" to the better gym. What's to prevent this company from forcing everyone to upgrade by eventually eliminating older complexes. This must be in violation or in breach of the contractual provisions. Has anyone successfully argued this to 24 Hour Fitness? This almost seems like a class action dispute to me.

24 Hour Fitness misleading, dishonest, agressive, rude,

I went to 24 hour fitness on 09/04/08 to recieve information about a gym membership.

Upon recieving that information it was assumed id be purchasing the membership that day, which I had no intention of doing as I didnt have the money.

I was encouraged to leave a small deposit to start the membership and informed that I would have 5 business days to cancel this membership for a refund. I wrote a $25 check and gave the manager (Amanda kukuk) permission to deduct the dues and the remainder of the fees ($130.12) if I dedcided to keep the membership.

Due to the fact that I signed up for the membership on the 4th I assumed (And was never told anything different) that my 1st day of the 5 days would start the following day. I returned on the 11th, which would have been the 5th business day, to cancel. I was informed that my 5 days where not business day but literally 5 days so I wasnt entitled to a refund of $25. I accepted that and made it clear that I would not be charged for the enrollment or any other dues.

That turned out to be untrue. I was charged 130.13 on 9/26/08 for a membership that I never used and cancelled with in 5 business days.

According to customer service I was right in my thinking but 24 hour fitness considers saturday to be a business day so I was 1 day late. That I know should have been revealed to me from day one.

After speaking with amanda kukuk it was the worst customer service experience ever. Obviously I didnt read every inch of the fine print (And even the 5 business day clause didnt state saturday was a business day) but the fact that I was working with the club manager i'd assumed i'd be getting honest service.

These are the issues.

1. I only wanted information and just getting up and walking out on her was the only way I was going to be able to say no with out being to rude.
(Aggressive)

2. 5 business days? In the state of california 5 business days means monday-friday. Amandas response was that I assumed wrong and signed the contract and there was nothing else I could look foward to recieving.
(Dishonest, rude, and misleading)

3. At this time I am unemployed. I plan every penny and my health is a concern which is why I wanted to get the membership in my new city. I am now out $130.00 for a membership I never used, honestly came back to cancel on what I believed to be the 5th day and am now treated like a rude ignorant person for thinking that there are honest good hearted people.

Amanda kukuk-club manager:

-mislead me as a customer.
-treated me with no respect, compassion or dignity.
-gave me the rudest service, with an issue she helped to create, id ever recieved in my life.
-ruined 24 hour fitness' image in my mind, and I will be sure to tell everyone of my experience with them.

I dont know what submitting this complaint will do but I am very upset by this treatment. The attitude of a manager to a customr who is only being honest and respectful should only at the least be the same. Rude, condicending, disrespectful, dishonest behavior should only be exhibited by ignorant people, not people with any amount of power... Or does that mean they give power to ignorant people?

I spoke to one person who was very kind, the membership manager kim. Only after speaking with her did I recieve a call from amanda with a whole other attitude attempting to partially rectify the problem. Which again was her choice. She still chose not to refund the full amount. Just a portion.

While I believe that this person could have been more proactive (why wait till the very last day if you knew you weren't going to do it?) I will say that Amanda Kukuk *is* one of the most unhelpful, inconsiderate people I have ever had the displeasure of coming into contact with.

The majority of the employees at that particular 24 hour fitness are unhelpful, extremely rigid, and have zero concept of the idea that customers, particularly in the current economy, are people to be valued and appreciated. When you see it coming from all the employees, it's clear that the attitude is coming from the manager, and if you've ever talked to Amanda, you'll immediately see why everyone at that club could care less about providing a good experience.

By contrast, if you go to any of the other clubs in the area, almost without execption, the people are wonderful and helpful, and no doubt that, too, comes from having good club managers.

My guess is that Amanda is pushy and rude, but probably intimidates people into buying memberships (and pushes her staff to do the same), so her sales numbers are probably good and 24 Hour Fitness management likely doesnt' care how awful she is once they've gotten money. Maybe if enough people see this and start voting with their feet and going to other clubs or other fitness chains, they will eventually get the message.

1) Why would you go to a fitness club that is NOT FREE when you are unempolyed
2) Why would you ssign anything if you had no intention or money to pay for it. Did it not say contract! Dude YOU WROTE A CHECK! That's punishable by law if you don't have to money to cover it. Illegal! Check California law.
3) All contract "back out clauses" start from the day the agreement is entered into. Not the next day, hello. And unless stated 5 days are 5 days. Maybe the 24 HOUR FITNESS name would have been a clue that it would be 5 days, in a row, 5 business days (their not a bank honey!) and no dear 5 business days in california state is not monday - friday. Where do you get your info!
4) you acted impulsive and you want someone else to bail you out and take the blame. I bet day one you knew you couldn't afford it but just thought it would go away or maybe mommy and daddy would bail you out. Grow up

There are so many businesses out there with truly bad practices, why waste the space on this board for false complaints. If I had been the manager I would have sent you to collections! Not let you off the hook! Maybe even sent the check you wrote to the DA's office not returned it to you. She gave you a partial refund, seems pretty nice to me, she didn't have to give you anything at all PER THE CONTRACT YOU SIGNED! Are you that weak minded, Yeah I guess you are, " "I couln't just walk out" Please!
Grow up
