My job was "ABOLISHED" 7 yrs ago.
I worked there for 9 yrs then out of the blue they told me I had to leave (15 min to clear out my stuff).
They where doing some "re structuring" and got rid of 4 of us at the same time.
People get layed off all the time but it was the way that they did it that was TRULY discusting. I was treated like a common crimminal.
__Now I understand why there are workplace shootings__ If Employers would treat those with respect and dignety, there would be far less hostility and incidents.

As for the racisim and sexism, I experienced that within the last yr or so that I was there.
The "SENIOR STAFF are given special treatment and people like me are treated like a piece of trash.
I went from complete respect and loyalty to utter contempt toward the YMCA organization.
The General Manager there is named Jorge Rojas however, he is best known as "HEE HAW".
Do not volunteer there and then tell them that you are taking a break to look for another job so you can make some money doing what you do (Teaching fitness classes). You will not be respected. To them, you must be provide free labor!

I along with a few others were Body Shammed at a Y Centre. Not just by Fit Members but by Staff too. I've also witness Staff making negative comments about the heavier set crowd. The Y spits out their CORE VALUES and MISSION but they themselves I find don't follow any of it. I am better off away from that particular YMCA Centre. Anyone that Volunteers or has plans to Volunteer I don't recommend the Y. Unless you are fond of being abused.

Similar thing happened to me. I was a Volunteer Cycle/Body Instructor for 4 years and then they said "My Skills are not suitable for their Y". I also didn't have "The Y Look" or "The Y Fit". Whatever those mean. I did these Group Fitness Workshops to get me teaching something else as my knee couldn't handle Cycle Fit any more. They lead me to believe I was fine and dandy and then right at my 4 Year Anniversary Mark they fire me. They wanted packed Classes and I wasn't able to deliver that and Members did lots of complaining about me. Nobody told me there were problems. But the Y kept compiling a huge list of Infractions I did and when they had enough they got rid of me.
I believe they let me go due to my Challenges. I have a slight learning disability and that's all they saw. Plus they play favourites at Sheppard YMCA. Others got to succeed while they ignored me. Others got help from Senior Staff Instructors while I was left alone to my own devices.

I wished I had seen the above story before I started Volunteering for them. I was a Volunteer there for 4 years and then they decided I wasn't "skilled enough" to continue being a Volunteer Instructor. I've been told I "lack skills" I don't have the "Y Fit" nor do I have the "Y Look". Even with their Volunteers they play favourites. I did Workshop after Workshop hoping to teach something else but I was a mere slave for the Workshop Leader. I even ended up going to Starbucks for him to get him Coffee. I also experienced a Staff Member making remarks about my weight and calling me names. I did complain but they ignored me. As for their Members they were really mean. And the Staff here cater to them and allow Members to treat Volunteers like crap. I found the GM Jorge Rojas to me arrogant, self-centred, and pompous.
