Walmart Canada review: 182.54 Gift card balance disappear

VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE WITH WALMART CANADA — $182.54 GIFT CARD BALANCE DISAPPEARED

I am sharing this publicly because I am extremely disappointed with how Walmart Canada has handled a serious issue involving a $250 Walmart gift card.

The gift card was given to us as a birthday gift for my son.

My wife used the card twice at Walmart:

• First transaction: $26.69
• Second transaction: $40.77

After those two purchases, the card should have had approximately $182.54 remaining.

When we went to use the card for the third time, we were shocked to find that the balance was $0.00.

What makes this situation even more concerning is that, during one of the earlier visits, the cashier took the physical gift card and scratched the PIN area to reveal the PIN. We still have the physical gift card in our possession.

We went to Customer Service at Walmart Store #3111 in Scarborough. They investigated the transaction history and told us that the remaining balance had been used in a transaction at Walmart Store #1061 in Brampton.

The question is: How could someone use the remaining balance when the physical gift card is still in our possession?

This is extremely concerning.

Even more disappointing, the supervisor at the Scarborough location told us that this was not the first time something like this had happened.

If Walmart is aware that gift-card balances are being compromised, why isn't there a more thorough investigation?

Why can't Walmart determine how the PIN was obtained, identify where and when the card was used, and investigate the transaction through the information and security systems available to the company?

I have now been dealing with Walmart Customer Service for more than two weeks. The matter has apparently been escalated, but despite all this time, I still do not have a satisfactory resolution.

For a company as large as Walmart Canada, I find this extremely disappointing.

I am not making an accusation against any specific employee or store because I do not know how the unauthorized transaction occurred. However, Walmart should be able to investigate this properly and explain how a gift card in my possession could have its remaining balance used somewhere else.

My advice to other customers:

⚠️ Be very careful with Walmart gift cards.

If you purchase or receive one, consider using the balance as soon as possible rather than leaving a significant amount on the card. Keep your receipt and protect the PIN.

After this experience, I personally would be very hesitant to purchase or give someone a Walmart gift card again.

Walmart Canada — I hope you will finally investigate this properly and resolve this matter. Customers should not have to spend weeks chasing a company over money that disappeared from a gift card that remains in their possession.
