scam
Be careful of Vida vacation Club in Mexico. In Sept, 2013 my wife and I were lied into paying $7210 deposit purchasing a 3-weeks package. The salesman lied to us that we can rent back 2 weeks to the company for $1800 a week. We were told that we purchase Bliss Riviera Maya but it ended up purchasing Bliss Nuevo Vallarta which is still under development. We were told that the company credited us $21900 to trade in our other timeshare unit to the company. All those were a scam.
After few weeks of complaint to the company, they offer me a downgrade unit for the $7210 already paid. Also they offer me Vida Lifestyle Program which cost $299 a year. Also they ask me to sign a paper which I need to give up all my rights as a customer and need to lie to other people about their company. After all these, I have no faith in this company.

Beware of Vacation Class S.A. de C.V. (advertising The Bliss Resorts, Bliss Vacation Club, Grand Mayan, Vida Vacations, VidaSales and more).
My mother and I traveled to Mexico to celebrate my graduation from college. After about seven hours traveling we were met at the airport in Cancun by some saleswoman misrepresenting her intention. The next day we were at their Grand Mayan where we were subjected to five hours of high-pressure sales tactics before we relented signing an English-only document purporting to be selling "lodging rights and services."
After getting away, we learned more about whom we had been picked up by from websites like tripadvisor, timesharescam, complaintsboard, scam, mescam, pissedconsumer, independenttraveler, and fodors, to name a few (all ending dot com). We notified the sales office that we cancel and asked for our downpayment back. They pretend to be confused and refuse.
We learned that Mexican law protects consumers under PROFECO; that all contracts regarding property in Mexico, including timeshares, must be in Spanish and bear certification by a Notario--neither of which was true for us; and that we can file a complaint in at any Mexican Consulate.
Our lawyer is putting together copies of their responses to share with you the names (and taunting words) of these sales people and the additional aliases they use. We hope that this post reaches you before you travel to Mexico, so you know to stay away from these people when they try to get you at the airport.

So I am in a very similar situation, just paid $3900 for a supposedly lifetime membership at over 50, 000 hotels/resorts around the world for $99-399/week. Once I was finally allowed access to the website, I see what a total scam this is as there are a grand total of 2 countries in the world I can visit currently, and only 7 locations! I called them, and they said their website is being updated, so everything isn't available to view right now, and to e-mail them with where I wanted to go. I recorded the conversation. There is still no reply, almost 2 weeks later. I am thinking a class action suit needs to happen against these thieves! They won't even let anyone view the website while there with them. I admit my ignorance in not doing a google search at that time, as there are so so many other people in this situation, but that is still no excuse for robbing people. Would there be any interest in anyone joining a lawsuit against Vidanta Private Reserve Travel Collection?
Did you dispute your charges on a credit card and were you successful we are going through the same thing.
Hi there. Another sucker I am afraid. I have another timeshare and have had it for 20 years and it is has been an okay experience. Vowing never to do it again, here we are. This time I dug my heals in for the first 5 hours. Almost out the door and the next salesman comes along. He is selling Private Reserve Travel Collection - weeks - at $99 and $399 for booking 3 months 6 months respectively. We buy into this, having first rang this company to get availability for example in Sydney. Which of course they could accommodate. I was on a 4 week vacation and this was week one, so no time to investigate and cancel a contract in 5 days. On return and do further investigation it is a total scam. I can get cheaper on booking.com, there is no stock available - one property in the whole of Australia and New Zealand. Exchange rates, fees, taxes, bank charges etc. The website doesn't even work, couldn't book anything if I tried. They also told us we would get buy one get one free Cruise Certificates, however, this isn't true, it is $149 off the cruise. Wow... I did not pay all this money to get a $40 discount or pay more for a room anywhere. I am in contact with Vidanta and Private Reserve, but it is going nowhere, just keep on saying 5 days to cancel, bad luck. No money back. I will fight this though. And, if I don't get my money back I will make it my life mission to tell the world of their practices. Shame - had a nice week in Playa, great room all for $199 with my other timeshare... Doesn't do much for their tourism.
Did you try to dispute the charges on your credit card? We experienced the same thing and we are trying to dispute it on our credit card.
Hi,
We experienced the same thing except we weren’t lucky enough to be able to cancel within 5 days. Almost 2 yrs later, we are still stuck wih our purchase. If anyone knows how we can sell this off, please let me know! Don’t want to get scammed again, but probably won’t use the package we bought.
We purchased in October of 2017 and used our membership in March of 2018. I already did not feel good about what we purchased, but imagine showing up at the resort only to be told "that's not what you signed up for".
We were informed we did not purchase what we thought we had purchased - the Grand Mayan. We were put in the Grand Mayan for this "one time only" first use. You see...when you visit their resorts, you have "classes of customers". Lower class (Mayan Palace, The Bliss, etc) cannot participate in the things the Upper Class (Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, Lux, etc) can do - but they are very sneaky when selling this to you. They tell you all about the upper class stuff, then sell you the lower class package and don't state that you can't do any of what they just showed you.
On our first visit, we were again made to sit through a sales presentation that was pitched to us as an "update on your properties" for hours and hours. This was no update, it was another sales pitch. The horrid sales people kindly let us know that we didn't buy what we originally thought but that we could cancel the contract if we "upgraded" purchased a new contract. After hours and hours, again, to get out of there, we signed (stupid I know!). You see...this company preys on people like us who have a very hard time saying no to the sales lady who went on and on about her 2 boys with no dad.
I sent a letter within the 5 days cancelling the new contract, but instead of cancelling the whole thing, Vida wants to put us back into the old contract. That is not how it works. The old contract was cancelled when the new contract was put in place. We signed a new finance contract and paid a new down payment. I still have the credit card bill from the old contract.
I was told that they would cancel the new contract "only if I removed any and all negative reviews of the resort" but that I had to honor the old contract. This is what they do to anyone wanting out of their contract and this is how they try to keep a 4* rating. I initially agreed to remove the negative reviews, but only if my entire contract (new and old) is cancelled.
Another thing they sell you on is Vida Dollars. Theses are a joke - they are virtually worthless. You can find better hotel deals searching online on your own. They really push the vida dollars making you think you are getting dollar for dollar savings when you actually only get to use about 10% on the dollar.
We have met many people who have had the same experience. Please don't get sucked in like we did.
It is always best to hire someone skilled to do so, unfortunately in most cases these companies dedicated to cancel timeshares usually cheat for the second time to their customers since they are vulnerable and desperate. If you are thinking of hiring them you just have to make sure you do not have to make any payment upfront ... I found these articles that speak precisely about this, you should read them, that might help you to resolve many doubts:

Bought a vida timeshare in Playa Del Carmen Feb. 2015. High pressure uncomfortable sales pitch. We kept saying no and they would bring in a manager who would drop the price and offered us an exorbitant amount of trade in value for our Anaheim (Disneyland) timeshare. (We found out later that they write off a majority of that sale price and it doesn't apply to our contract. We're out about $10k on this deal and after trying to book a trip to Nuevo Vallarta in October, found out that our only value to being a member is getting to pay wholesale instead of retail for vacations. Ka-ching. Expect to pay for everything, being a member doesn't entitle you to squat.

Vida Vacations Selling Deeded Timeshare?
The Deed: If you think you own a deeded interval of time with Vida Vacations you're sadly mistaken.
What they explain is that you can upgrade to their PRC program, which has a deed...perpetuity, whatever they may say. The deed recording sales shows in Recitals (Company declares) is in fact deeded to the developer, who then divides that deed into one week intervals and packages them. Make no mistake that is the developer’s deed...not yours! You will never receive an actual deed as you would in the US. If it was deeded you would have visited a Public Notary, and sign "the book" which is law in Mexico with all deeded property.
Vida Vacations sells "right-to-use" (RTU), unless you actually purchase a condo outright. Clause 1 of recitals explains this clearly. You may trade-in the RTU contract to purchase a deeded property, which means you need to spend a lot more money, the RTU equity that you would use to buy a condo cannot exceed 20% of the purchase price. Which means you'll pay 80% of the asking price. If you have a $150, 000 RTU equity and you want to buy a $400, 000 condo you would only be able to apply $80, 000 of your equity.
But there's a chance sales will inflate the sticker price as they do with the timeshare, in which case you will pay close to full price for the condo and effectively receive little or nothing for what you trade in.
This is done with full knowledge of Corporate Management as well as Ownership. It is viewed as creative selling, although those who are on the receiving end of the scheme don’t see it that way.
If you bought and none of what I mention were factors you have a great product.
Ms. Rose I urge you to reconsider.
Vida Vacations Scam Brokers
My friend and I bought last year in Cancun, plain and simple we got screwed! We kept saying no, no, no. We already had a program at Palladium and were still paying on it. They were relentless, kept going on and on about a guaranteed rental program. Eventually they put us on the phone with one of brokers from a list they have, we spoke to a person at Global Golf and they assured us of the huge rental demand for Mayan weeks, he said we would have a check within the first three weeks of Jan. 2014. Then he went on to assure us that they would have absolutely no trouble selling our Palladium program. Because of these assurances we decided to go ahead and spend $13, 500, this was the price after the phony credit they gave us for our Palladium program and rental credit.
Another part of the deception was the opening price was $50, 000, turns out this was an inflated price. The scam is they discounted the price and gave us rental credit, giving the false impression that there is a huge demand for rental weeks (this really helped convince us) then they gave equity credit for the Palladium, there were some other credits which we can't remember but in the end we paid $13, 500. I repeat we would have kept saying no, but having an "independent broker" begging us for weeks he so desperately needed was the tipping point for us. When we got back to our room and the broker called us anxious to sign us up which made us feel like there was a genuine need for rental weeks and we signed up.
We have tried to settle this offline but the Mayan refuses because we have decided to use a third party. After what they did to us can anyone blame us. They are masters of deception and we need someone who has more knowledge of the situation. BTW there is nothing in the contract that states we cannot retain assistance. They rely on the contract when we complain about the bogus rental/resale scam, they say you shouldn't have bought for rental/resale even though they put us on the phone with a broker...astonishing. We understand that if we take it upon ourselves and seek out rental brokers and get no results that's our fault. But the Mayan colludes with brokers as we mentioned then they stand there with their hands up saying they have no responsibility here.
We have the absolute legal right to seek assistance, they are accustomed to taking advantage of unsuspecting consumers and we are just trying to level the playing field and get someone who know what they're talking about.
We will continue to spread our story until this situation is resolved.

My mother and I have received an "offer of settlement" (viewable at this link http://tinyurl.com/k3mggkf) that would obligate us to lie about our experience with these people who have identified themselves to us as Bliss Resorts, Bliss Vacation Club, Vida Vacation Club International Sales, Grupo Vida Vacation, Mayan Resorts, Riviera Maya, et al.
First, this offer purports to create a contractual relationship between us and another company, to wit: Premium International Vacations S.A. de C.V. We are trying to sever ties with the authors of this unpleasant chapter of our lives, not expand the list of characters.
Second, this offer purports to have us surrender our free speech rights, and goes further by obliging us to participate in marketing activities, such as posting positive comments, on behalf of the Premium International Vacations S.A. de C.V. and its unidentified "Affiliates, " for no consideration other than the return of our own money.
Third, this offer demands our silence, requiring us to keep these terms a secret, and never to speak about it, under threat. Meanwhile, we are suppose to trust that the "Person Offering Settlement" noted on this offer with an office at the Riviera Maya (a) has the authority to make this offer, and (b) will eventually refund our downpayment.
Who are these people? And why would any reputable hotel or resort allow them on their property to take our money? More importantly, why hasn't any of THESE hotels and resorts contacted us to resolve this?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My husband and I were recently subjected to seven hours of EXTREME pressured sales pitches that turned out to be entirely false when compared to the contract that we were not able to read until we got home. I was so nervous and sick to my stomach during the whole sales pitch I could not see or think straight. It was like they had me in a trance. My husband told me he felt the same way. We are usually people who can stand firm on our beliefs and had no intention of signing anything, although we did. When we read everything we had signed, we were stunned. Nothing in the paperwork aligned with what we were told. Since we talked to them on our first day, by the time we got home it was past the five days of being able to cancel. At this point, we are willing to give up our down payment to get out of the contract, but am not sure if this is the best way to handle it. Before we contact them, we need some advice. Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated.

We were also scammed with a Mayan Palace Timeshare. They claim they don't misrepresent themselves. Yet the promises and the drinks ease you into signing. Once you've done that, you are screwed. Through all the other initials on your contract, you realize you initialled, that they don't misrepresent themselves. Now you are up the creek. We had 2 timeshares they claimed that Alliance marketing would sell for us in 3 months max. We would recoup the money we paid at the Grand Luxxe and would net out ahead of the game. Well 15 months later, I am out $30k and I still have the original timeshares. I have also not heard a word from Alliance marketing in several months. Plus I found out they are a marketing group, thus not legally allowed to sell. I have had to take a 2nd mortgage out on my house. All the answers I have seen from the Mayan on various websites show they are not at all interested in helping out. Do they not have a concious? You should read this article on how most of the mayan palace timeshare scams are being committed:

This sounds very familiar! We are senior citizens and in 2007 we were foolish to attend a sales presentation at the Grand Mayan hotel where we were put under immense pressure until we gave in and purchased a membership. I am eighty years old and made mistakes in my life although the only mistake I truly regret is having spent our retirement money with the Grand Mayan. We went back to the sales center the very next day requesting to cancel the contract and Carlo, the person we met with showed us a clause in the contract stipulating the contract may only be cancelled if we forfeited our down payment! I know today that the right to cancel a contract cannot be waived if the request was placed within five days. I am so bitter and sour about the whole experience I would never go back, I have never even used their membership and still they refuse to give my money back. I have been fighting with the Grand Mayan for years, they say I have no proof I have requested to cancel my contract within five days! Miraculously the person who attended us back then does not work there anymore. Neither does our sales person or his manager. Indeed we were told the sales manager was sent to jail after raping a girl, same as he raped our trust! This gives you an idea what kind of people work in this place. I have talked to an army of people. Once a customer service girl at the Grand Mayan even screamed at me, telling me I was plain stupid to have signed the contract. I have a PhD and I am far from stupid, but I sure was naive to trust these people who looked me in the eye and not even blinking while presenting their lies. We were made endless promises, all of them unfulfilled. We purchased this membership as an investment package, not as a vacation plan. Our sales man and his manager promised a weekly rental guarantee of 2500$, they even went as far as saying they don't want us to come back to their resort because if we rented our weeks they could have prospective new clients who to sell new memberships to. We sent money to three different brokers recommended by the Grand Mayan, who took our money and disappeared. The Grand Mayan responded their contract stipulates they do not offer rentals. Well, WHY would 90% of their presentation appear to be about investments? We were also told new resorts were to open soon in Costa Rica, Orlando and Hawaii. Years later of course this never turned our to be true either. The list goes on and on and on. I wonder if the owner knows what is going on in his resorts. If he does, shame on him. If he doesn't also shame on him. I think we need to make this scam public to a wide audience and fight back, from what it seems thousands of innocent tourists fell into the same trap. Scam scam scam! Shame on you!

Fraud against unaware tourist in mexico
********** If you are reading this post and have not signed a contract with them; don’t trust every word I say, but compare your sales pitch with what is written in our complaint, you will realize they used the same sales pattern with you. **********
Dear Complaint board members,
I am providing the following information for all you to know the real deal with the Mayan Group (Grand Luxxe, Mayan Palace, Premium International Vacations, Vida Vacation Club, and all other names they use to protect their assets from being subject due to their fraudulent activity.
We have several times expressed our dissatisfaction with the company due to misrepresentation at the time of purchase. We were sold unrealistic product qualities; plus the sales person used lies on several other items like the value of the membership. We were led to believe they were taking in consideration the value of our previously owned timeshares, when there is nothing showing the amounts discounted from the price; and after checking with other people, we realized we were given the same exact inflated price.
You will read below an email I received from Keely Daadas whom diminishes every action that was performed against us.
I am J, and she is KD for better understanding.
Email conversation starts here:
Dear Mrs. Swanson,
KD: I was not present on the day of purchase (for either contract) and so the only reference I have to go off is the legal contract that you and Mr. Swanson signed on the original purchase and then again for the upgrade 6 Months later.
KD: Upon signing both contracts you had the opportunity to sit down with a Verifications Representative and cover all of the negotiations discussed with your sales representative at the time of purchase. If there were specific reasons you purchased with VIDA, you had the opportunity to inquire more information at the point of sale. Your sales rep, like many in sales, will shine many of the benefits in its best light; however all of the benefits that were explained are actually possible.
KD: I am going to reference to the original email you wrote stating that you had been scammed:
J: Linda Spurlock gave us the pitch that they would help us eliminate our time share fees from the time shares we owned at the Royal Sands in Cancun and Village West in Iowa:
KD: Both properties were transferred as per the agreement, ultimately eliminating any further finacial obligation to either for Maintenance Fees. On 4/13/2012 you made the decision to buy back the properties.
J: They looked up the “worth”of our timeshares and said that they would give us $12, 500 for our Sunrise Cove timeshare in Iowa and $23, 100 for our Royal Sands Timeshare in Cancun. We were reluctant to trade in these timeshares but Linda assured us that with buying the Mayan Palace property we would be able to “trade” for numerous weeks in Iowa as the Cancun property was worth so much more in trade in value:
KD: Both properties were credited and deducted from original purchase price of CONTRACT CRNZ2262. With the paid in full Grand Luxxe contract it is in your best interest to use the weeks within your home Resort because of all the additional benefits you receive. If you do choose to exchange, Grand Luxxe is a luxury property and Registry Collection is one of the best exchange companies to be affiliated with.
J: She said that the beauty of buying into the Mayan Palace was that the only time we would have to pay the “maintenance fee” was if we decided to use our time share. If we didn’t want to use our weeks they would “sell” our weeks for us and give us the money:
KD: VIDA does not participate in the rental or resale of members weeks. This is made very clear on the verification statement, your contract and the list of affiliated companies that do. There are many ways to market your weeks independently or with the assistance of a broker or agency; ultimatley the decision to do so is at your own discression. For you speficially, there are no mandatory Maintenance Fees associated with the Grand Luxxe contract, so you are not obligated to pay the annual fees if your weeks do not rent for that year.
J: They said that every five years they would have a refurbishment fee but we could give up our weeks of time that year and that would cover this fee:
KD: There are no mandatory fees for the Grand Luxxe contract I proposed.
J: They emphasized that by buying into the Mayan Palace we would help our children who would inherit our timeshares by eliminating the maintenance fees for them and that they would receive the money from the resort if they decided to have the resort rent the weeks for them / We thought we were doing the right thing for our children by leaving our children with something that they wouldn’t have to pay for unless they wanted to use it:
KD: The proposed Grand Luxxe contract has 3 weeks (plus sunpack week) that your family would be able to use per year, these weeks are all pay upon use. In this day of social media marketing, your younger generation is very capable of profiting from your investment, given they have the drive to do the work. Rental by our company has been previouly addressed.
J: We signed the agreement. We still were under the understanding that everything we heard from the representatives as stated above was part of the contract. We didn’t realize that we had been had:
KD: All of the above is as mentioned in the Grand Luxxe Contract.
J: As you can see we were duped the two times we came across the sales people:
KD: If you had been “duped” the first time, one would think that you would be very clear about the legal contract that you were sigining for a second time. The contracts are not only to protect the consumer, but also our company. If anything other than what was written in the contract was promised or guaranteed, you had the opportunity to discuss it with a Member Service Representative at the time of verification.
KD: Mr. and Mrs. Swanson, I understand that the circumstances of your experience with Vida have been unpleasent, however we have worked very hard to come to an amicable solution. We have over 80, 000 Members within the VIDA group, many of which have owned with us since 1989 to present. We believe this is achieved by continually providing an outstanding product and lifetime of Member satisfaction. As per the contract, a refund outside of the 5 day recission is not an option. I have put in two special authorizations in order to get you the contract that you believed you were purchasing the first time. There are no further financial obligations associated with this contract. It is available for you and your family to use and enjoy for any future vacations with Grand Luxxe, or through any desired Resort exchanges.
I am available to discuss any additional information you may require. As I have previously stated, I work for corporate and this option is non negotiable. We can proceed with the Paid in full Grand Luxxe contract or with full cancellation of contract CXST0071. Please let me know how you wish to proceed.
Kind regards,
Keely Daadas

By the way, don’t pay your balance, they will forfeit your balance because all they want is to keep your money.
The resort itself seems very nice, the sales pitch, however, is pure high-pressure sales. The sales people are snakes, their only motive is greed. They have no concern for what is ethical and will “brow beat” you to make their money. It was not worth the free breakfast and $50.00 dinner coupon. When I finally got up to walk away from the table, Luis got in my face and began to argue with me, telling me I couldn’t leave until he said the presentation was over. I continued to walk away as I raised my voice at him. You would think that that would be the end of it, but they will continue to pass you to the next person for a “survey” which turns into another sales pitch…these people are shameless. If you agree to attend the 90 minute presentation you will regret it.Search online for Mayan Palace Timeshare Scams for other “horror stories”:

We were lead to believe that our vida dollars would pay 100 percent of our package vacations. Not True ... only a portion of vida dollars can be used, and nothing for airfare. The only resort that we could fine in the yucatan was El Cid Rivera Maya that knew anything about the vida dollars said they would only honor 900 vida dollars for hotel only. There are two lies already I could go on and on totally discussed.
We are another victim of the Vida Group. Bought Grand Mayan in 2011...didn't get what we were promised. Then we went back in 2012 and were told they would make it right. Well after sitting on the phone for almost 2 hours today I know that I was all lies. They can not provide rooms when you try to book 8 months out for Grand Bliss and 6 months out for Grand Mayan. We were also told of how you can sell your weeks thru Destination International for $3400 each week you give up. That has not worked out either. After 3years of trying to sell weeks not one has sold. Another scam! I am now trying to get someone from Vida group to contact me, but I will not hold my breath.
I actually bought a package but the verbal pitch that the could rent the 2 bedroom unit for us at $2000.00 was totally false. I also would not recommend dealing with them.
I've also been to these 90 minute presentation and only half have been that shore and is typically twice as long.
My husband and I were convinced to attend a VIDA sales presentation while we were vacationing in Puerto Vallarta. The sales person took us by cab to Nuevo Vallarta and we were handed off to two different people and walked through several facilities and over the large grounds before they treated us to a lavish buffet breakfast. While all of this seemed nice on the surface, the high pressure sales tactics were just beginning. We were presented with a variety of "too good to be true" opportunities to purchase into their" no maintenance fee" plans, where they proposed that they would give us 10 years of a "marketing week" that they would then rent back from us at 1800 per week. Instead of maintenance fees they have what they call a "usage fee" which is over market at $1179. The first proposal was just under $200, 000 for 6 weeks of timeshare with a 1 bedroom unit and a studio unit. Ridiculous! We kindly told them NO and then a variety of other sales people with different versions of ridiculous schemes at decreasing price points were presented to us. By the time we left, still telling them "no", we had been through 7 different sales people, and the price was down to $2000 for 20 weeks in a 1 bedroom unit. We definitely knew that this was not an above board operation. AVOID VIDA. They kept us there for 4 hours after the breakfast even though they promised us only a 90 minute presentation. Do not waste your time or money on these scams. In addition, we did not receive our $20 deposit back at the end - we were so happy to be leaving we didn't even realize they kept it until we had escaped to a taxi and we were on our way back to Puerto Vallarta!
Wyatt. you think Tracy`s remark is terrific... on tuesday I bought a brand new McLaren F1 from making $7312 this last five weeks and would you believe, $10k last-munth. this is really the nicest-work I have ever done.
