BLUF: NEVER purchase a Container from “Used Conex” (usedConex.com).
This company has repeatedly proven to me the they will not stand behind the product they sell, or the customers that pay them.
I purchased this container after doing the best research I could. I suffered a house fire and needed a reliable storage container delivered as quickly as possible. I retired from the military in the Pacific Northwest and it rains A LOT. I needed to get the possessions I was able to save into a dry container quickly. I chose “Used Conex” because they offered a “guarantee” as well as a military discount. I spoke with the representative about the base I needed to build and was advised level railroad ties or concrete blocks would do well. I took the time between order and delivery to lay out 4 VERY level railroad ties on compacted soil. A truck with a towable trailer arrived (with the container on top) and I was informed that 3 of the 4-railroad tied needed to move so the trailer could back up and drop the container. The process of driving the container back crushed the base I had constructed. The foundation was now not level.
I was told I could inspect the container once it was delivered but that once placed, it was mine. I agreed however, when the container arrived it was on the truck so inspecting it was not possible except for a quick exterior scan. So, the container was placed. I we opened the door with difficulty, but the driver said it just needed oil and that this container was in much better condition then most he delivered. So, like a fool, I signed for it and the driver departed. I needed the storage NOW.
Luckily the rain held off for a while and I filled the container. The door continued to be difficult to operate. When time permitted, I closely inspected the container. I found rust so bad that plates of rusted steel were flaking off around the door frame and hinges. I found a door latch that had been so difficult to operate for a long time that it was bent and dented from someone using a blunt object to pound the mechanism closed. I took pictures and sent it to the email I had for “Used Conex”. I was asked for pictures proving the container was level and a video of me opening and closing the door once the container was level. I do not own the equipment capable of leveling the container, so that was not possible. They completely ignored my rust issues around the door frame, until yesterday when Amena from their relations department told me my concerns were “aesthetic”. I will try to add pictures.
Then the rain came. The container leaked with the first light sprinkles. I sent another note. It was ignored. I sent a second note and was asked for another set of pictures which I provided. I was told a patch kit would be sent. My home is an active construction site. Somehow a package did arrive with a few “tubes” of JB weld in it. JB weld is NOT a roof repair as far as I know.
ALL I wanted was a solid dry container. What I got is scrap metal. Now I have lost much more due to water damage from their leaky container. Yesterday Amena told me they will offer me $100 for my troubles……... LOL Then she tells me my issues are aesthetic. I don’t need money. I am a retired Army soldier who served for almost 38 years. I need a company who stands behind their product and this is NOT Used Conex, and their “Relations” team member Amina should be grateful she does not work for a reputable company, or she would be fired.
ONE LAST THING. My aesthetic issues are not aesthetic. I am a structural engineer and have studied rust damage of steel numerous times. This container is junk.
Again, at this point I want no money or actions from Used Conex. I simply want to help others make a better container company choice than I did. Especially my fellow former and current service members.
