Red Roof Inn - disgusting drama mess

Please be very, very careful with this hotel! There is a lot of positive feedback on TripAdvisor on this hotel but we were here long enough to see the “real deal” and “behind the scenes” stuff to make anyone run the other direction.

We checked into this hotel in mid-June 2012. Our plans were to stay long term until we were able to secure adequate housing. During our 10 week stay, we stayed in three different rooms and eventually ended up in a suite-type room that had bed bugs! During this time, we also found out that many of the rooms have roach problems and are “out of service” because they are not inhabitable.

The second room we were in had no lighting in the bathroom. We told management and maintenance of this problem three times and it was never fixed. We were offered the suite room for $50.00 more per week and felt we were forced into this room simply to have a fully functional room. Upon moving into this room, the kitchen sink was flooding the floor and would not drain. The second morning in this room, we woke up to find dead roaches floating in water in the sink. Again, we told management and maintenance of this problem with no assistance whatsoever. Eight days later, the maintenance person completely removed the garbage disposer (said the owner would not purchase a new one) and the sink problem was resolved.

During this time, the air conditioner in the living area did not work. Upon powering up the unit, it sounded as if a machine gun was being shot. The maintenance person brought in a different a/c unit that looked as if it were a 1960’s model and swapped out the units. The new a/c unit started sparking and making a high-pitched noise. Again, we notified management of this problem and it again took another week to repair.

During our stay at this hotel, we made the unfortunate decision to become friends with the staff and GM, Jennifer Lindemer. Immediately upon making this personal connection, the GM, Jennifer started telling us about her crush on the maintenance person. She would follow him around the property with her tongue hanging out like a junior high school girl in heat. Mind you that both of them are married and have children, Jennifer eventually ended up leaving her husband and children, moved into the Red Roof Inn only so she could be closer to the maintenance guy. Sexual comments were constantly being made between each of them in front of hotel guests and staff. There were several long-term guests in the hotel that Jennifer forced into this situation and eventually the hotel started losing their long-term guests and the ratings started falling.

The “complimentary breakfast” provided by this hotel is a JOKE! On a normal day, they will provide waffles, muffins and bagels. They claim to have fresh fruit but you rarely see it. There have been many, many mornings when most items are out of stock. For example, there was a 4 day stretch where there was no waffle batter to make waffles. There we two separate times when there were no muffins for 3 days at a time. There was another day where there were no bagels OR muffins. One day, there was no waffle batter, no muffins, no bagels and the juice machine was down. The only items available were bananas and coffee. The GM Jennifer has told us on numerous occasions that items are out of stock because she “forgets” to order things.

During the final days of our stay at this hotel, we noticed a lot of seedy looking people staying at the hotel. One morning, very early, some people were using the ice machine to fill their ice chests. The on duty front desk person, Sheree ran up to the woman, grabbed her hand and pulled it away from the ice machine and told the guest, “Absolutely NO ICE for filling ice chests.” She further told the guest that if they were caught using the ice machine again; they would be checked out with no refunds. Had the guest been smart, she would’ve contacted an attorney. A BIG NO-NO! You NEVER touch a guest!

The final straw for us was when we moved into their “suite” type room. Within a week of moving to this room, we found a live bed bug crawling across our bed. We killed the bug and took it to the GM, Jennifer. Later that day, we found a bug shell stuck to the mattress and after tearing the bed apart, found true sign of bed bugs. We found feces and blood stains on the mattress and box springs. (See pictures). We took all this to management and the only thing they did was check our bed and tell us that they didn’t see any bugs. No pest control – nothing!

This hotel employs some great people with awesome customer service skills but the management is much to be desired. There were multiple occasions where we heard the hotel GM yelling and screaming at her employees in the middle of the hotel lobby. On one occasion the hotel GM and an employee were in the parking lot screaming at each other.

The reviews on this hotel are very deceiving. Please be very cautious when considering this hotel! I can assure you that the other reviews in regards to roaches and bugs are all true. This hotel was refurbished and upgraded after it was taken over by Red Roof Inn but has gone downhill very fast.
