The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Spring Hill, Hernando County, Florida has on display, for all to see, an example of what a charitable organization should NOT be. Lying, stealing, and taking the Lord's name in vain seem to be business as usual for the staff at the Salvation Army thrift store. There is discrimination against minority customers including the elderly, disabled, and people of color. The elderly and disabled are routinely run into with large carts. People of color are verbally abused. The disabled are told that they are in the way. However, the abuse is not limited to minorities, There is plenty for everyone. Thank you for providing us with this example. We will be happy to take note and do otherwise. And I Thank the Good Lord for that.

I informed that it was the salvation army from Elizabeth and Elizabeth from Elizabeth. I believe that Elizabeth told the truth story. I am both of Elizabeth and Tina's witness because Tina, who worked as volunteer at the salvation army, got black eye from Elizabeth; and she got nosebleed from Tina after Tina did hit Elizabeth's nose after Elizabeth knocked Tina's eye out. That was very real crazy brawl when they fought to each other over the note and pen for communication. Tina's mother, who worked as the salvation army position, refused to communicate with Elizabeth, who was her deafmute client, with the pen and note; and then Tina forced Elizabeth to hear what they talked without the pen and note, but Elizabeth did not wear her hearing aids. Elizabeth did ask them for note and pen four times; and then they refused to communicate her so well since she did not understand. Elizabeth did write, " why did not she get food with her food card?" Tina's mother did not answer her questions and told her without the note and pen when she did not understand what Tina's mother said. Elizabeth used ASL sign language to her until Tina jumped and cussed at Elizabeth in Tina's mother's office. Tina made Elizabeth so angry, yelled at her and attacked her sign language; and then Elizabeth did knock her out before Tina knocked her, too. 5 volunteers and employees broke them up; and then Tina stayed in her mother's office and Elizabeth was in another room. Elizabeth did calm down, but Tina kept talking. I took the pen and note to her and told them to communicate with her with the pen and note. Jeff, who is the supersivor of the salvation army, did communicate with Elizabeth understanding clearly with the note and pen and made decision to kick Tina and Elizabeth out of the salvation army center for foods forever. Jeff told her that he was very sorry what's happening that communcation was misunderstood; and he needed her faince to pick her foods. Jeff explained it to Tina's mother that he made so decision to kick Tina out because she treated Elizabeth like so bad. Jeff informed that her faince still keep picking elizabeth's foods and emergancy near the future when he is her help. Jeff wanted me to tell elizabeth that Salvation Army in Wheeling and Weirton should help her not wellsburg, wv. I know that Elizabeth did donate over $5, 000 after her mom's death to the salvation army in the past. Jeff begin to teach his employees and volunteers to respect the ADA law for deaf, blind and disabilites people. For example, wheelchair person needs help for bringing food or stuffs when the volunteer bring the box to one's car and respect the wheelchair person. I believe that Elizabeth and Tina can't sue being complaint to each other over the salvation army brawl. I am very sorry for both of Tina and Elizabeth getting kicked out by the salvation army. Do you agree that Elizabeth needs to take anger management class?

When my mother died I had a houseful of older furniture in very good condition, or so I thought. Not wishing to endure the craziness of Craig's list or a yard sale, I called the Salvation Army to donate all of it to the needy. They sent two guys: one looked like he thought he was a Hollywood producer and the other I think just got out of jail. The 'Hollywood" one flounced and flitted thru the house and within 2 minutes said "oh, no no no, none of this will do, sorry. Have you got anything else? " ELSE? People are homeless and sleeping on sidewalks and you're turning down four bedroom sets and a whole livingrm/dining rm suite? I was livid. All they want is NEW stuff in Perfect condition so they can sell it at top prices in their "thrift" shops. You can do better at Target or Ikea - these people are PHONY and should not call themselves "non-profit"! I will never put a penny in their stupid buckets again.

Yes Sheryl, thieves indeed. I don't know if the whole organization is like the ARC in Albany, NY. If they are they should all be prosecuted. The church part is laughable and the charity part is all a front so as not to have to pay taxes. The so called captains hire, fire and put people out on a whim. The so called counselors have no training whatsoever. One is not permitted the liberties needed to try and rebuild their life. They are held back for one reason, free labor. Yes they will feed, house and clothe you as long as you work for them 40 hours a week for no pay. Where does that leave one time to look for gainful employment in order to move on?
I worked for them for about Ten years and they were a bunch of thieves .If people know what they did with that Christmas money they would not give.

The SA is "part church, " "part charity, " and "part business, " per an article in a Florida newspaper (that truthfully described them). One should add: "A BIG PART, business." Do you pay taxes? I do. Can you hide behind "non-profit" status? Most people can't, our dollars are taxed. The organization wants it all their way. I will not donate to them anymore.
I agree. My donation of very good wood furniture and an expensive glass patio table set with chairs were refused. I was told Salvation Army does not take summer furniture in the winter. The wood china cabinet had aged scratches on it but in almost excellent condition. I really feel that they made a bad judgement call. However, it would be nice if when scheduling they would tell the donator the possibility that the furniture may not be accepted. After all I waited for 2 week for the pick up and now have to make other arrangements.
The condition of furniture can be relative, and sometimes they have higher standards for pieces they have too much of or pieces that take a large amount of space. Though it seems like you are not a very understanding person seeing how quickly you are to judge someoen based on appearance.

In November 19, 2010, I went over the Salvation Army around 1130 am after I recieved the food card for thanksgiving. I walked into the Salvation Army; and then the employee took me into her office and asked me what utilites were and wanted my faince's ID and proof of his income because my application was not completed. I went back home to pick my faince's ID and proof of his income and went back to the Salvation Army to see the employee. She just gave the information card to me: Please call after 10 am on the monday. If you have one, you have extra. I did not understand what she said. She refused to write the notes and pen to me. I went back home again to pick proof of the ulitities and went back to the salvation army again. She said no, she never wrote the notes and pen to made me so mad when I told her please get the note and pen because I am deaf and used ASL sign language. Another employee cussed at me without the note and pen after I was very pissed off. She yelled at me without the note and pen; and then I knocked her out and told her with sign language that I did not like cussing without the note and pen. Two of the employees did not understand my sign languages: "note and pen" till one employee cussed at me without the note and pen. After knocking the employee out, they called on the cops since they talked with me without the note and pen and held mef on the bench. the cops asked the salvation army where the proof of the note and pen were because of ADA law. The cops told me with the note and pen:I am not allowed to come back to the salvation army and go home now. after I barred from the salvation army, my faince was very upset and went back to the salvation army. He asked them why. They did gave the foods to him instead of me. My faince told me that the employees called deaf people Brutal sign languages! The salvation army kicked deaf people out in the world. I believe that the salvation army violated the ADA law and abused deaf or disabilities people for no reasons. I wonder how to file a complaint against the salvation army for ADA violation.

Salvation Army is just plain MEAN! I am disabled and get $674 month in SSI benefits. After months of trying to keep my bills current I have fallen behind to the point of foreclosure and electric & water service termination. In Wv $674 is TOO much money to qualify for assistance so they referred me to the Salvation Army. In addition, you cannot apply for emergency assistance until you get a termination notice. Needless to say my electric bill is now $1100 and my water bill is $350. So I'm referred to Salvation Army after being denied by the DHHR. The Salvation Army lady looks at me and says, "we can't help who make an effort to pay their bills." So much for their charity. That's the last time I throw any loose change in their little red kettles at Christmas.

The volunteer attacking Elizabeth's sign language at first is very serious problem. WOW! I think the volunteer did protect her mother and misunderstood what Elizabeth's sign language was. She thought Elizabeth's sign language hit her mother. the volunteer did not know any sign languages until she felt so terrible. That is very biggest shameful for the volunteer and Elizabeth's stupid fighting to make all volunteers, employees and clients scared of the physical violence.
I am the salvation army's volunteer and know that Tina and Elizabeth are very good ladies, but they did terrible stupid. Tina did not realize that Elizabeth is really deafmute and thought Elizabeth can speak. Elizabeth and Tina made the worst mistakes. Tina thought Elizabeth's sign language attacked her mother until she did attack Elizabeth's sign language; and then Elizabeth got Tina's black eye and Tina got Elizabeth's nosebleed. I did inform all salvation army better to communicate with deaf people with note and pen or deaf clients bring the notes/pad or laptop for better understanding with communication easily.
I agree with Brenda that Elizabeth did wrong to hit the volunteer, but the volunteer did wrong to attack her sign language. Both already kicked out by the salvation army after the salvation army's decision.
I am both of Tina and Elizabeth's witness. Please read the salvation army brawl. It is not elizabeth's fault, but Tina and Elizabeth did stupid things to fight over the note and pen. I knew that Tina disrespected Elizabeth's deafmute and did wrong to attack Elizabeth's sign language/hit Elizabeth; and Elizabeth did wrong to hit her. Tina and Elizabeth misunderstood the communication to each other when Tina is hearing; and Elizabeth is deaf.

Garden street shelter- They will only feed the homeless families that live there lunch on Sunday if they attend Capt. Trish Poochigian's church service. The house manager sexually harrasses the female staff and whenever a complaint is made about him, Capt Trish sweeps it under the rug. His wife somehow got on the pay roll there. All she does is clock in and sit on her fat fanny making ugly faces. Garden street is run by incompetent buffoons on a power trip with 12th grade educations. They are fools and ###. I wonder if their bosses know.

People think that the salvation army do good to people, and employees. They wrong, not all of them are good to the employees. A friend of mine work for this organization for 4 years now, and they treat her like she is a dog, after everything she been thru for them. Now they are trying 2 fired her or make her quit. They only care about money money money they dnt care about nothing else, I dnt think its right.in december last year this lady was robb in the store thanks 2 god the man didnt hurt her n only took donations not the money bcause she fight with him and she had the chance 2 closed the doors. Once again my attorney's letters have gone unanswered from the Salvation Army.
I, as a Buddhist, was forced to complete a six month drug and alcohol program. After being kicked out of said forced program, they won't release my records showing that I was and am Buddhist and that they are taking people that are forced to be there from other religions. Under federal law, your records from doctors, dentists and rehabs are your MEDICAL records and must be released.
The Salvation Army is using forced labor to slave in their warehouses, w/ no pay and with complete disregard to people with disabilities. The people from probation and parole being are forced into religious programs that do not agree with their own religion, and if you don't go to church or complete the mandatory bible studies you are kicked out and your PO is immediately notified so you can be violated on your probation/parole.
Entanglement between religion and the US Government? Wasn't the constitution set up to provide it's citizens with freedom of religion. Not so now-a-days.
After I "failed" their religion indoctrination/forced labor program, even Judge Larry Kendrick (St. Louis County) failed to uphold federal law that states I was suppose to be given a SECULAR alternative program choice. I wasn't, and was then convicted and did time, giving me a permanent felony record. Now that I can't find employment, I must embrace the so-called "evil" that the Sal. Army should be liberating people from.
So, when you see the commercials on TV form the S.A. stating that they save lives and help people, ... THINK AGAIN!

I really do agree with you for the most part, except, "so the laws concerning separation of church and state don't apply." They do, that's why the ACLU took my took my case.
It's actually both, since they both worked in tandem with each other. I really blame the SA more, since they convinced the courts that they were a legitimate drug and alcohol rehab program, even though they lack certification and credentials through the Dept of Health, as they are suppose to. As I said before, people now can only voluntarily go there. The courts and PO's are no longer able to force people, as I was, thanks to myself ( :) ) and the ACLU. They just tell the PO's and courts that they are a legitimate program so that people will be forced to be there and WORK there (for FREE) for six months. You would have to have been there to understand just how corrupt they truly are.
The donated cars? Shopped by the officers. I dated a girl whose parents ran a small SA church who drove from MO to MI to pick up a free, donated car for her! Just ask 'em. Captain Mark Haslett and Major Sue Haslett Tel: [protected], got a free donated car for their daughter, Raylee Haslett. She a good old, punk rock ex of mine. She then ran off with said car. LOL! And yes, we had many a conversation about the corruption there. The officers and some of the higher ups (who weren't in the SA) there in St. Louis would just shop through all of the donated cars, which they then didn't even pay for. That's the honest truth of where your donated cars go; for their own personal use and pleasure.
The officers that ran the center in St. Louis, before the officers that were present when I was there, actually bought a second residence to store all of their shopped treasures in, and used residents to move the antiques, electronics and high-end, name-brand clothes there, in SA trucks!
But, without knowing these things, I too would be fooled by their heartfelt commercials. They remind me of the Knights Templar that became: too powerful and too rich and eventually so corrupt that they became involved in pagan and devil worship. Or as Nietzsche said, "Power walks on crooked legs."
The courts didn't put me there, a mean spirited Christian PO who was ignorant of the law and thought he was above the law, put me there.

It really was a sham, and that was my whole point for posting this complaint. To educate people on the actions of both the SA and the PO. If you had been put through it, as I was, I'm pretty sure that you'd feel the same. Be I Buddhist or not, imagine the government forcing people into Mormon or Catholic programs when you are a Babtist Methodist, and then when you refuse to convert, you get kicked out, convicted and then incarcerated. Ugh, what has happened to this country that I was raised in. to believe that we are truly free. Although I can be glad that I won't be taken out and shot for exposing this to the public!
Just please, think not only twice, but thrice, before donating anything but a lump of coal into the SA kettles or stores. If you want to donate older furniture, cars or whatever, give Goodwill a shot. They have no government interaction and actually help people with disabilities, as they did with me, to find a job. Why doesn't the SA help people with disabilities? Because they can't work as hard or as fast as healthy, normal people. They can't produce enough for their pockets.
All the Salvation Army is concerned with is PROFIT, PROFIT and more PROFIT, no matter who they hurt in the process.

Thanks Judge Dawniette! Obviously you missed the very first paragraph where I said, "And especially when I didn't have a drug/alcohol charge. That was also against MO Statutes." I didnt' have a drug or alcohol charge. That's one reason my felony is going away. I just have to make sure to get the word out on sites such as this to inform and educate people on the malpractices of the police and PO's here in America. I was not court ordered; I was forced by a crappy, power-hungry PO who didn't know the law. I didn't know the law, unlike you, although it makes me wonder how you know the court system so well, Dawniette. What sins against man and society are you guilty of?

When carjackings were more prevalent in the early 1990's, housewives that were given handguns by their husbands or bought their own handguns to protect themselves from such carjackings, were being arrested for having loaded guns in their gloveboxes also, and for the same charge. I didn't know anything about that law, but in the court system, ignorance does not equal innocence. I was guilty, although not intentionally, so I manned up to the infraction. According to the law, one must have the gun locked in the trunk and the bullets locked in the glovebox, or vice versa. How does it help to have the gun and bullets separate if you're a 105lb female against a carjacking? It doesn't. It just sets you up to be a helpless victim that can't defend themselves. It's just one more of our freedoms that is being infringed upon. It is also one of the first things Hitler and the Nazi's did as soon as they came into power in Germany in 1933.
But that's OK, because with the help of the ACLU of Eastern MO, the Probation and Parole offices nationwide can no longer force people into religious programs, as I was. It must be voluntary admittance now, or a secular alternative must be offered. As of over two years ago, Americans can thank me, the ACLU and, umm Satan for making sure that YOUR constitutional rights as American citizens regarding religious freedom are protected.
And to set the record straight.
I was pulled over in a speed trap while moving from Chicago to St. Louis. I was honest with the police officer when asked if I had any guns or drugs in my Uhaul moving van. I was guilty of packing my legal hunting rifle in the same box as a loaded clip, so I was arrested on the spot for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a Class C Felony in MO. So, yes, technically I was guilty and took responsibility for not knowing the law (or I would have locked the bullets in the glovebox away from the firearm ((that actually is the law, both have to be locked up in separate parts of the vehicle)) to that degree.)
And no, I never expected anyone to bow down to my religion. The constitution guarantees my right to have people not infringe on my right to practice my religion. My point is this: the government does not have the right to force religion of ANY kind down citizens throats. It's in the US Constitution, look it up. And for all of the haters out there, ... I would really hope that one day you are arrested for honest with a police officer, get arrested and then have Islam shoved down your throat or face prison.

And actually, I did just go and shut my mouth while there in the St. Louis, ARC. They just hated me because of my religion. I find it funny that they judged me when the bible says not to judge, and that only God had the right to judge. I didn't make any mistakes there. I walked on pins and needles because I was facing 5 years in prison if I failed that fake drug/alcohol program. You don't know me. Enough said.
And also. Let it be very, well known that the SA doesn't pay for ANYTHING. It's all donated, except gasoline and airline tickets. They said they spent billions of dollars helping @ ground zero on 9/11 with donuts and coffee. That was all donated also. The local SA went there. Not every SA office in America.
I actually helped to get the St. Louis ARC busted for food stamp fraud because they were making all of the new "beneficiaries" get food stamp cards which they would take. Twice a month, they would line us up and swipe our cards for us, behind a glass cashiers window. We would then put our pins in and sign the receipt and get a yellow copy. The money was deposited directly into a Bank of America account. They had been telling the welfare department in MO that they had to buy all of the food for the men living there, when they were having "beneficiaries" working in their phone call up all of the local food businesses and have food, meat, coffee, tea and everything else DONATED for a tax write-off and good PR for the businesses that did. The local grocery stores would donate their day-old goods. Evil! And illegal!

There are some inaccurate statements in this complaint. It is my understanding that people in Salvation Army A R C's are in a work therapy program and also receive a some weekly stipend to help with personal needs. "Captain Mark Haslett and Major Sue Haslett Tel: [protected], got a free donated car for their daughter, Raylee Haslett. " Majors Haslett have no daughter by that name.
Why were you forced into a drug program by the court if you don't have a drug program. But yes, the salvation army is Christian and trying to be good christians by helping people. It is a privately funded organization and so the laws concerning separation of church and state don't apply. I am a Buddhist also, and I understand that Christian organizations try to convert you or will have you in prayer meetings with them. But I don't really feel offended to pray with Christians, because I feel we are all praying or trying to practice the root of goodness in our hearts. It is true some Christians could have more respect and compassion towards other religions, but it is also wrong to go around boasting about Buddhism when you are begging for food and shelter. I was tossed out on the streets by a Buddhist temple and the Christians helped me survive. I was grateful. I am still a Buddhist and they are still Christians, but we are friends.
I know being homeless can be a horrible ordeal. And people with felonies can't even get a job at Burger King anymore. Maybe it's your karma for owning a gun. I am grateful to have lived this far.
God has one religiuous, but the world has many religious. Please respect any religious. We cannot judge who we are!
So, then REALLY your complaint isn't against the Salvation Army it is against the Court System. It isn't the Salvation Army's fault you got put there. They do what their mission statement says and that is SALVATION through Jesus Christ.
The courts put you there, your complaint is against them not the Salvation Army.
My brother also was in a SA in a different state and he was on a 9 month program, they are a Christain based organization so you should not expect to practice budism there. They have you work to pay for your time there, why should anyone else be expected to pay to get you out of your situation. The only thing I did not agree with that they did to my brother is he had been rushed to the er because he couldnt breath and was advised by the er that he take it easy and not work for a couple days so they threw him out on his ### without letting him use the phone to call someone for a ride (3 hours away form us), they did not find another program for him. He did however find another progam that he is currently in now, itis not based on any religion so he can practice whatever religion he so chooses. My point being there is that there are other non profit organizations out there that you could have chosen if religion was such a big thing to you.

Your secular choice was jail/prison. Which you ended up doing anyways. I'm sure you didn't do the whole 5 years though. America is just great about that. You are lucky you weren't in another country. You would be rotting away in a prison; if they let you live at all.
And if they were to "force" me to do a Muslim based rehab, I would choose jail. It's really a pretty easy decision. I wouldn't expect that I could join the Muslim rehab and they would let me practice Christianity. That is what you were expecting to do. The SA should just change their protocol for you? Or for any other beneficiery that doesn't believe in God and Jesus? Fine, go to jail. Pretty straightforward.
All the SA's use the beneficieries Food Stamp Cards. They should! Most are fed and housed for free. Food is not the only expense! Did they get their Electricity, Water, Trash, Heat etc, all donated as well? Do you have any idea how much it costs to operate a facility like that monthly?
They work to learn/earn. Most of the guys don't have a skill anyways. And if you have a disability, they put you where they can use you. If they can't use you, they usually ask you to leave, but find you another program. It wouldn't be fair that some wouldn't have to work.
It seems to me that you want the system to go easy on you because #1 you have a disability and #2 you are buddahist. Wow! Now that's special treatment!
I'm sorry, but if you are so strongly convicted in your religion of Buddhism then maybe you shouldn't have been doing what you did to land there in the first place.
My husband is in the program right now in a different state. He had gotten himself into quite a hole and is working his way out. No one is going to do it for you. So you either deal with it or do your time. And, I will admit it is not an easy program, But it helps a lot of people get their lives on track.
They have some power trip issues, but hey, welcome to the real world. Everywhere you go people are unetichal, live is hard, and sometimes you have to just "put on your big boy pants, " and deal with what you have gotten yourself into.

I was shopping for bedroom furniture, and was interested in a set I found at the Salvation Army. The dresser & mirror was priced $199.00. The matching dresser and night stands were not priced. I asked a male employee to assist me, and he did'nt know the price. He called out (in spanish) to a woman working in the back of the store. She came out, looked at the furniture, and begin conversating in spanish with the male employee. She walked away, and the male employee shrugged his shoulders. The male employee stated that in the "Store" this set is a lot of money. I stated to him "This is Not The Store, this is the Salvation Army, so how much? He stated, the dresser & mirror was $199.00. The night stands was $79.99, and the other dresser was $179.00. The woman walked out from the back, never acknowledging us, and begin pricing the items.
There were 4 other bedroom sets in that store, and all of them were priced as a set for $199.00. I asked both of them, "Why is this set priced separately, " the male employee stated "I don't know, I just work here". The woman ignored me, continued to slap prices on the furniture, and when she was done-she walked away (rolling her eyes).

Captain Mr. and Mrs. Cole administrators of the Albany, NY ARC have been continously harrassing, exploiting and violating the human rights of their employees and beneficiaries. So, far OSHA, State Department, Health Department have been contacted for these violations, however, the superiors of these so called Christian Captains continue to ignore the pleas and complaints of this magnitude.
I personally was there for almost 6 months and left the so called work therapy program because of such abuses and disregard for safety. I am still clean and sober till this day working hard to improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries and employees of the center.
I have keep in touch with staff and beneficiaries, they are still being coerced to attend AA/NA meetings which is unconstitutional in New York State. If beneficiaries or employees that live in the center do not attend meetings which are held there, they must leave or stay out of the building until the meeting is over. Now, how do you expect individuals to stay out on the street with nowhere to go and risk there sobriety and/or safety. This practice must be stopped!

This may be the policies of the attendance of stay there. Its not likely you can change any policies, I'm facing these kinds of issues with food pantries in New Hampshire.

However, the adult rehabilitation center located in albany, n. Y. Hmmmm…must be mommy who clocks in for him (Isn’t that stealing?). Is this a healthy environment for a rebellious 19 year old that dropped out of school?
The captains’ wife donna, takes two of her favorite beneficiaries who originated from ohio (And happens to be white), to spend the weekend with her, which is totally unethical, it may be a sexual thing, but let’s just assume that’s hearsay.
Also, one of her favorite beneficiaries physically assaulted another, and he was supposed to be thrown out of the program, but, he just received one week without his freedom (Restriction).in comparison, if it were a black or latino, forget about it. Another beneficiary stole a pair of boots (Which unfortunately happened to be latino), received an indefinite restriction and was threatened with dismissal of the program. Is that logical? We think not.

The ARC in Albany was no better in 2013. Many safety violations. Mistreatment of beneficiaries. Horrible to their employees.
My ex-husband has been hiding behind the Salvation Army Rehab program in Albany NY for several years so he does not have to pay the child support he should for three children (he was court ordered to pay about 20 something dollars a month for all three). He is currently behind in his child support (can you imagine) my current husband has supported my exes children for the last 10 year. I have been divorced from him for the past 9 years and he has not been a part of their lives for the past 12. I am wondering what the heck they are doing for him except for enabling him to be more of a POS! I have not and will not donate to the Salvation Army because he has used them and they allowed him to use them for so many years. I view this whole organization as a whole a absolute joke, pandering to the needs of the lazy!
It's sad to see that the justice system actual creates more crime. How are felons suppose to be able to get jobs, so they can quit robbing houses, if they can't pass a background check?

I'm not shocked by this complaint at all.
In 2002 I was forced by Matt Long, a probation officer at 7 South district in St. Louis, MO, to complete a SIX month drug & alcohol program at the St. Louis ARC, which at the time was run by Capt. Roger and Cecile Senn.
While there I was absolutely FORCED to: attend christian church services twice week, perform 40 hours of physical work with a Cat. II disability and was made to read the damn bible in order to fill out mandatory bible "studies." I was informed that if I didn't just comply they would find some way to kick me out and then would be more than happy to call my PO and inform them of my dismissal. I was constantly written up for "infractions" that they made unwritten rules just for me, the Buddhist. After four months of torture, I was asked to speak with one of the officers, who asked me to convert and if I knew that jesus had died for my sins. I nicely told him no thanks and that in my personal opinion he died for his own sins. Two days later I was kicked out for having too many "write-ups."
I was completely treated unfairly because of my awesome religion, Buddhism. I was written up for alleged infractions all of the time because I am Buddhist and raised quite a polite stink about the fact that the government was forcing a US Citizen to attend a religious program, that differed from my own beliefs. I was given no choice at the PO office and was told that I didn't have any choice BUT to attend. Not true. By federal law I was suppose to receive a SECULAR ALTERNATIVE, but was not, even after protesting to him and his supervisor, Parker Nanny. I knew it was extremely illegal what the PO AND the Sal. Army were doing, but was ignorant of the exact laws at the time. It was illegal, according to two MO statutes, that state that the PO has to be a certified drug and alcohol councilor AND that only people with drug/alcohol charges can be forced to attend mandatory drug/alcohol programs. I had neither a drug or alcohol charge and PO Matt Long was not a certified drug or alcohol councilor. These laws exist to keep IGNORANT authorities from making uneducated decisions, but they were completely ignored. Even after I was kicked out and incarcerated until a revocation hearing, I presented these facts to Judge Larry Kendrick, who also ignored the LAWS! He convicted me for failing the said Salvation Army drug and alcohol program even after I showed in court a letter from the Eastern Missouri ACLU stating that they would take my case. and I did a year in St. Louis County Jail.
While incarcerated, I became a GD to ensure my financial success after my stint. My career is fantastic. I decided not to follow through with my lawsuit towards both MO Probation and Parole and the Salvation Army because I don't believe in the law anymore. It completely failed me and because of the system's and the S.A's sins, I chose a better fate for the criminals that went completely unpunished. Although I did help to make it illegal for the PO officers to even be able to chose a religious program in which to place, oops, ... force, people into attending.
Take it from me. If you ever get into trouble, when in the jail intake process, make sure to list Buddhism as your religious preference because 99% of their "programs" are christian based. Then, as soon as they violate your civil rights, call your local ACLU office and start the attack. Pressing charges and filing lawsuits. Shame on the Salvation Army! And thanks for the love. They are all the same. The beneficiaries as well as the employees are mistreated all at the whim of the so called "captains" or whatever their rank may be. Just because an employee is called a "pastor" doesn't mean that they are a certified counselor. The organization needs to be investigated for many things. They will act like they are helping you as long as you live under their roof and work for them but the minute that you question their authority you will be put out of the program. People are encouraged to get back on track but once they realize that you will be stopped with the threat of expulsion from their program. They are control freaks. After all, the longer that you stay with them the less they have to pay employees. If there are enough beneficiaries at a given time they will cut employee hours to save money. After thinking long and hard it is not an organization that I would recommend.

We have been instructed by store manager juan gomez to inform him when we receive these items so that the major can decide if he wants these items for himself. Both of thses individuals who hide behind the bible have kept for themselves, cars, boats, named brand clothing, and jewlery. I thought anything donated to the store was to be sold so that less fortunate could be able to buy these items. Juan gomez sold a car donated to the store on ebay and kept the money. Local police found out car was stolen and questioned mr. Gomez and the major but for some reason mr. Gomez got away with this. These two thieves mentioned above are so called christians who stal for themselves and I plan to go to the local news and tell them everything if you do not take action. So what are you going to do about this.

If an employee sees anything that should be reported they should not wait to report it until they are dismissed. All is well at The Salvation Army except having to deal with those who try to hurt The Salvation Army by inuendos and lies.

Captain Lewis Patrick picks his favorites and promises jobs and opertunities to only the ones who are his pets going to Cleveland does no good they are best friends. He had a few seniors join and odered wrong sizes and is always too busy to help them get in approperiate attaire. He brought his favorite friends with him and has since then gave them jobs and using the community to his own advantage. The past Captains have never had so many office people and cut thier own soldiers to help transfer who he wants and not others. He brags how he is going to get to stay at Bellaire and causing a lot to not come back. He allows certain ones to wear what they want not be involved yet hires outsiders when he knows transfers from other corps there are jobs that should be filled with soldiers not employees. He promises jobs to some and never means it to build up his credit with the Salvation Army and is driving people away that would help and when he gets booted from here they will need to close that corps because he using them all to his advantage.

You are an embarrasment to The Salvation Army. Major Louis Patrick and His wife, Major Norma Patrick are the best thing that ever happended to Bellaire Salvation Army. The Church attendance has grown and they are fixing a long term fiscal problem. You do not have a clue how hard they work to make that place a better place. The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters is in Cleveland you stupid ###. When he goes to Cleveland he invites everyone and most of the time they are going to The Salvation Army Divisional headquaters for a program or something. What is your problem?
If "I" was either of the Major's I would not want a pathetic Senior Soldier Like you. Where is your loyalty? You hide behind a generic name, Senior Soldier, you pathetic loser. Your senior soldier status should be ripped off of you. If you were offered a job and he didn't want you, I understand why he would not want you. He doesn't want a cry baby on his staff. He doesn't want a disloyal employee. Stop posting lies and start being a better member of your church. I shop in this store a lot, as well as give donations. Just recently, a man was hired that is very intrusive. As I shop he follows me very closely and today, Dec 29 2009 he did reach out and touch my shoulder and back and rub it. I told him to keep his hands off of me and that this was unacceptable and foward, and that I was married.
I love to shop here, but I do not feel comfortable at this store anymore because of him. He needs to keep his hands to himself.
I do not know his title but I do know that he is the only male working there. He looks to be around lat forties or early fifties. He is about 6'1 and has shoulder length silvery hair. I will tell him to stay away from me each time I enter that store. Im not going to stop shopping there because of him. He just needs to back off and stop touching me.
This incident happed to day, and I am shocked that a worker at a so called religious clothing thrift store is this out of control. Ive not been in a bar for over 2 decades, but this is the way this man carries himself, that is as if he is in a bar trying to "pick up". He needs to be more professional.
I'm not sure if you are aware, but a lot of workers at these stores are in their Rehabilitation programs. You need to say something to a manager. It might be that he is a regular employee and if that is the case, he should be repremanded, but if he is a "beneficiary" of the rehab program they could relocate him to where he isn't in contact with the public. I agree with you that I wouldn't stop shopping there either, but if you don't let a manager know, nothing will be done. Good luck!

i often go to this store in search of low cost furniture.. you would think that they are there to help the community by selling the things they get for free ... but they don't the prices that the manager puts on these items are outrages! some itme they are even more expensive then the stores.. someone has to really control these prices.. someone needs to investigate them and its not only in danbury ct almost all salvation army stores in connecitcut are ripoffs.. so people before you donate thinking your actually going to help people in need try posting your items or holding a garage sale/for free sale for peolpe whom actually need them and do not have to money to pay what salvation army is charging can get them...

i purchased a tv on1/20/10. the product only lasted 1 month. now keep in mind this was all i can afford. i cant buy a new one. i have 2 little kids 3 n 4. now they have to wait for a tv.i spent 84.79 on this tv . i took it back on 2/22/10. at first they said they would give me a credit slip. then they changed their mind. it is not fair. they shouldnt sell electronics without some kind of guarantee. they are supposed to be helping others. this is hurting others.
On 4-09-11 I was illegally searched and accused of being in possion of nartics. Alsomy right to unrestriced movement has been violated while iwas in the program and one of the staff member by the name of joesph stellhorn made a comment about my famly which he should not have because my famliy had nothing to do with what was going on between me and them. They also made some comments about me that they did't known if they were true or no. They where just speculations. I believe they acted very unprofationaly and feel something shold be done about it. Also I have been extorted because they todl me that unless I tell of anybody in the program that was using synthetic marijuana I would not be alliwed to perticapate in the program and be sent back to jail. That also violates my right not to in crimante myself
I wish to address complaints regarding the cost of items at the Salvation Army. I have volunteered there for many years. The items that are donated are essentially "free" yes, but please keep in mind that the rent, heat, hydro, maintenance and staff etc. are NOT free, not to mention the outrageous dumping fee's they must spend each year disposing of others garbage they bag up and throw in the donation bins. If you don't want the ripped, stained or smelly items anymore, likely no one else does either. please put it in your own garbage so the Salvation Army aren't burdened with it. The staff try their best to price fairly, but you have to be a jack of all trades to know the exact worth of each and every item, most employee's price 300 to 500 items a day. There are surely some mistakes made both for their benefit, and vice versa. They are a charitable organization, after expenses the rest DOES go to those in need! The $200 dresser you were complaining about was probably about $1000 or more new. We help those in need, there are vouchers for clothing, household items and furniture for those who need them for free. They supply gratuities to the homeless who wander in needing shoes, boots or coats. When you shop the Salvation Army you are supporting a wonderful cause, one that I devote many hours of my time to. The stores are just an avenue to try to increase their funding for programs, and that is what you are supporting when you shop there. The higher end items are more costly but there are many antique dealers and re-sellers who shop there daily. Who should benefit more from the donations your provide us, we who support those less fortunate? or the re-sellers? I hope this all made sense. I am just trying to show the whole picture out so opinions can be educated ones.
The Salvation Army: Doing Evil in God's Name?
Does the Salvation Army think it's perfectly fine to turn "reformed" drunks and drug addicts loose on the public at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store? As any intelligent person might expect, unsupervised employees of the "reformed" variety will do as they please. Problems include abuse of the customers, "disappearing" donations, lying, and otherwise running amok. Prices are adjusted according to who you know and sometimes free to good friends. Numerous complaints have been made by phone, email, and letters to the Salvation Army Headquarters in Tampa and go who knows where. Doing evil in God's name is the worst sin. But what happens at the Salvation Army stays at the Salvation Army. Or does it?
I think it is very disturbing when all the items sold in the stores are donated that the prices are so extremely high. Let me give a few examples: there were some pictures for sale in the Salvation Army with a price tag of 29.99 when down the street at the Family Dollar someone can buy the same ones for 25.00 each "NEW, " also, a nice solid wood poster bed was priced at 799.99 used because someone misread the original price tag that clearly said 4 piece set for 2199.00 (which included an armoire, dresser w/mirror and the bed) the bed alone sold for 699.99 NEW. These items are donated to help the less fortunate to have nice, used items. If more people become aware of how their things are being sold at the original price they might stop donating. I know I will not give them another penny until they lower prices so people can afford things. Whomever is over the pricing should really learn how to research items and price them at least half of the original and not more than the price sold in other stores NEW. Will this review matter to anyone? Probably not, however, this is just my first stop on informing people to do their own research before buying things at any second hand store.

The SA is dishonest in where all of their money goes...they support Anti-Gay programs and think they are above the law! They also have expensive real estate for retreats for their officers. Who pays for this?
1st off things are priced a third of their value, so if you have a piece of furniture from Cardi's or Broyhill, it's going to be more then something from Walmart or JCPenny. I live in the Northeast and Danbury CT isn't a cheap place to live, that also is taken into consideration. If say you were in Attleboro Ma, items would be cheaper because it's a poorer area.
2ndly they have to make money, they have employees, utilities, and rent to pay like Tough2992 said. They also have gas to pay for the trucks for the pick ups at peoples homes and drop offs to the stores and the BIGGEST bill they have is what Salvation Army's MAIN focus is and that's feeding, clothing, and keeping a roof over the heads of all the people in the rehabs. Your purchases go towards HELPING these people beat their addictions and get their lives back on track.
Pricing items 2nd hand is never an easy job, sometimes its priced too high, sometimes too low, but your purchases are going for the good and it's not fair to say what you said without having all the facts in place. I've shopped in all sorts of thrift stores my entire life and I've NEVER seen anything mark MORE then what you would find in the regular store.. you cant expect to go get a complete dining room set for $50 if its worth $1000, that's just not fair
first off, i agree that some things in the thrift shops are overpriced. but the thrift store has bills to pay and that is how they do it, by selling items in the store. if they just gave everything away they wouldn't be able to pay their employees or pay the electric bill. some salvation army stores do offer vouchers. this store you go to doesn't need to be investigated, people like you need to stop expecting everything for free. no one owes you anything.

Everytime I make a call to try to set up an appointment at this location, I either get a busy signal or the phone just continuously rings and then goes offline. I call throughout the day and I don't understand why there is no voicemail prompt or any way for callers to leave a message.

I was told I would receive a $25.oo visa card for signing up. I did sign up on 12-12-09 and have no card as of yet. The major problem I have is the customer service never answers, they tell you to leave a number and they will call back and they don't. So there you have it do not get dish they have terrible customer service. I quess you get what you pay for.

Salvation Army lists a strict Godly "Sanctity of Marriage" policy, and also says it's adamately against Domestic Violence. My husband abandoned our family after much abuse and violence, now the violence is the cancelling of all my financial accounts and access to any finances, cancelling all our medical access, abandoning us leaving us penniless and on welfare. Even though his new employer, the Salvation Army knows about this, they are not calling him on his sinful behavior. Strange that he is "helping the poor" in California while he has left his own family to fend for themselves, forcing us to go on welfare, having our utilities shut off several times. Why aren't the Godly men in this ministry requiring him to live a life of integrity and take care of his own family? Why haven't I heard from them - why aren't they requiring him to begin a Restitution and Restoration and Healing Process. Why don't they require him to get proper treatment? I'm am near foreclosure of our home of 21 years now also. This is so discouraging and confusing since I thought the Salvation Army was a very different organization than this.

I'm sorry to say I've discovered the Salvation Army is not what it advertises itself to be. My husband is abusing & terrorizing the children & I. My husband has been violent & deceptive during our entire 30 year marriage. He has been a Pastor this entire time. When I got brave enough to tell some close friends about the violence in our home, my husband deceptively & secretly began planning & plotting his new job at the Salvation Army - with the help of another Executive at the Salvation Army - quit the Pastorate, ransacked the house, and moved three States away. I have been a Mom & Pastors Wife for 30 years. Now I am poverty stricken, about to get my house & car reposessed. He is pretending to be somebody else - earning $6500 per month at the Salvation Army in Sacramento. His bosses & several other leaders in the Salvation Army know all about the violence, abuse & abandonment as well as the Financial Abuse - and they don't do anything about it. They say they are advocates for the poor, suffering, women & children, but apparently they don't care about my children & me & the suffering we are going through. And they don't care that they have a wife abuser & child abuser on staff, a man who lies constantly & is lying to them as well. SO SAD. -we are alone in our suffering-
