This is a recent email I sent to Terminix -

I am disappointed that during this past year no progress has been made in eliminating or abating the termite infestion in my house. Seeing more swarming termites than last year brought me to the conclusion that the inspector did not thoroughly inspect the areas of infestion which my husband and I discovered on our own centralized in the basement walls and baseboards.

When the inspector Benny White made his initial diagnosis last year in 2006, he determined that the infestion was in the basement ceiling joists and set up a program for those plastic baits on the outside of the house - which proved to be a failure because they haven't made a dent in the problem.

The inspector told us that we must address specific issues on the Survey of Conditions Report which we did - we eliminated 90% of all vegetation growing on the premises, we removed all the mulch from planted beds next to house, we put in new gutters and extended the downspouts. And now we have ripped out most of our basement walls.

During the term of my contract, I have on repeated occasions called the Glenview Terminix to request the technician come INSIE our house to spray the problem areas orignally infested when the visual inspection was done last year. During the winter months, no one came out to provide any services whatsoever - both inside OR out.

When I made appointments to have the technician come out, he did not report on the planned days and came out on other days when I either was not here or came out and didn't bother to ring our bell to enter the house. At one time a neighbor spoke with the technician and told us about it after the technician left.

You recently sent me an invoice to renew my service, after knowing I was not completely satisfied with the service during this contract period and have expressed this more than once to the corporate office and to the local office in Glenview, IL. What I need to know is what resolution Terminix has in mind to satisfactorily meet the terms of this contract which I am confident Terminix has not been totally forthcoming about and I suspect was only a vehicle for Terminix to make more money for as little work as possible.

After some research, I believe that Terminix did not use the best possible methods to attempt to eliminate the termite infestion and their lack of urgency and service contributed to the accelerated infestion and my husband and I are left on our own to spend more money trying to resolve this ourselves. Money we wouldn't have had to spend if the Terminix technician would have come out and into our house to treat it when I had called and requested interior treatment.

Again, I am deeply disappointed that profits mean more to Terminix than solving my termite problems. My life and equity are in this home and I am angry knowing that Terminix did not share my concerns or heed my requests.

I cannot at this time recommend Terminix as a company one would want to do business with and am fortunate that I know many people with whom to share this story so that they do not make the same mistake I made.

Do not trust Terminix. They will send a debt collector for a service you never received. The managers Derik Tomason, Antonio Briceño, and Luis Santiago were unresponsive and showed no interest in resolving the issue. All they care about is getting paid. Awful experience and terrible customer service! They don't respond to emails.

This Branch is not a licensed pest control company, they have lousy customer service, they staff are rude & unprofessional, and the chemicals they use - won't even kill pests, the stuff they use are more harmful to peoples' health, more than anything else! My experience with them was a nightmare, and I'm not doing business with them again...

I was recently "let go" last week simply because I didn't sell enough. My customers loved me, never rec'd any complaints, always completed my route 95% or greater, and collected well each month. But because I didn't sell 2-3000$ worth of overpriced and oftentimes totally unnecessary garbage every month they had to let me go. While I did in fact sell (usually at least 500 -1000$/month but sometimes well over the 2000$/month "goal"), my numbers apparently weren't good enough. Trust me, you are far better off with a locally owned pest company that doesn't offer all the other products/services and force their service techs to sell. Or better yet, go to doityourselfpestcontrol.com and you can get the exact same products that I used as a tech.
Do the math: On average, the yearly cost for pest control with Terminix is $300.00 (75$ every 3 months). Go to doit yourselfpestcontrol.com and spend 50-100$ and you will have enough product to last you 2 - 3 years.
terminix pest control for 3 years =$900.00
doityourselfpestcontrol.com for 3 years = $50-100.00
And if you do go with Terminix, pray that your service tech (pmp) actually gives enough of a rat's fanny to provide a good service, because believe me, plenty of them do not. Just a little information and common sense is all anyone needs to take care of their pest problem. There are plenty of avenues one can use to gain necessary info to treat their home correctly, without having to pay dearly.
Obviously I'm not happy with the way I was let go, but the above points reflect the way I've felt for quite some time. I was with the company over two years, and I developed a lot of good relationships with many of my customers. I can honestly say that I treated my customers the way I would expect to be treated, and tried to treat their homes like each was my own. In the two + years I was there, I did see a lot of questionable ethics. And nearly all of these situations revolved around money. Sell, Sell, Sell! was the mantra.
Do yourself a favor, think twice about dealing with the big companies. Like every other large corporation, it's all about the almighty dollar.

TERMINIX DOES NOT STAND BY THEIR ULTIMATE GUARANTEE WARRANTY

My house had a continuous contract with the dealer for over 20 years with documented annual inspections, upon finding evidence of termites during remodeling, in 2 walls that were relocated I discovered them in a third wall of the room. I contacted Terminix they sent a representative who was shocked at the size of the infestation and immediately called the owner of the franchise to inspect the damage and implement the warranty for the substantial wood damage. The owner said THE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I OPENED THE WALL UP, to investigate the damage i found on an adjacent wall. the damage went up a foot on each stud as I opened the wall until it enveloped the the support beams with thousands of swarming insects in huge dirt habitiations inside my walls! 'The coverage is only for damage which can be seen upon visual inspection, i was told. Incredible. The whole wall of wood studs was just like paper as well as the support beams above, i removed 25 gallons of dirt debris from the wall cavities. Decades of premiums inspections and treatments did they stand behind the warranty? No. I got one final treatment and they left. Save your money this warranty is worthless, I paid for all the repairs. But at least my cabinets stayed up on my new wall.

Also they cheat you out of the pest proof insulation also. they will go to home depot get bad quality stuff and shoot it into your house and you never know the difference. Best bet Stay away from terminix. you can do better and cheaper elswhere, ,

TERMINIX BREACHES THEIR SERVICE CONTRACT & FAILS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR 'ULTIMATE GUARANTEE'

ANTS: They never rid them ..poison and say 'they'll increase for a while, but then they'll be gone.' Never gone. Never decreased. Like they were fed good food, not poison. And, their ULTIMATE GUARANTEE is a joke. I called for service (again) Sat 8/7 at 8:30am, then three more times before 5:30pm closure. Never got call back. Never got service. Even the supervisor, Stacey Lackey, never called back. Now its 54 hours later, and no return call, no service ..yet their nauseating phone jingle says 'we will provide a solution free of cost within 24 hours. ... or you're money back." Try and get money back. All they do is apologize. They are dishonest, false advertising, and in breach of their contract. Typical!

Ken,
Thanks for your article, I have had $10's of $1000's of dollars lost with pest services. It is apparent that there is little to no training needed for the 'Pest Industry" these days. I purchased a property that had extensive past termite damage. Got a perfect bill of health from the pest inspection, Wilsons Pest (NC) apparently blind to the bore holes throughout my house. The building inspection came to the same conclusion 'excellent property'.
The previous owner wished me the same "LUCK" she had enjoyed with my house...I felt blessed and happy.
The owner had nearly lost the house due to such termite infestation that walls were replaced, her 1st. husband died here as well. My neighbours told me these facts about 2 years into this nightmare!
They sold me covered mold, rot lost studs, walls hidden by siding...to name a few!
My current pest control people Don's Pest (NC) actually treated here for subterranean termites...forgot to mention it to me as well...treated 2 places front door and a corner at the back, WHO treated it is a mystery because no one 'fesses up.
The pest plague continues, I had a delightful guy named John Deal ( high Point ) NC, his company Aces determined that I had bats, $5 later to him, a rental apartment for 4 months, rabies shots and a lot of ill health, it was determined that the whole thing was fraudulent, faked receipts, photos and the whole works! Mr Deal is known to govt. agencies and has had licenses repealed, just opens the door the nest day under a new name !
Hr Deal had a friend who had just joined the FOX NEWS TEAM...she put my story to air, quoted health officials before she spoke to them, told the public my house was condemned...she knew the story was untrue, because I told her that Mr Deal had falsified evidence, facts and has had licences revoked...as did Mr Bunn from the Forsyth county Health Department inform her that they do not, can not condemn properties.
Enough, thanks for the opportunity of sharing

Three times terminix completed inspections and issued certificates stating there was no live infestations. On all three occassions, With in days (not weeks or months) a carpenter found live infestations and Terminix would not service under the terms of the service agreement.

I've been dealing with an infestation for the last year. Terminex told me it was a weevil. They sprayed and sprayed and sprayed.. nothing got any better.. it just got worse. I have millions of these tiny bugs all over my house.

We contacted several other exterminators... Terminex didn't even correctly identify the bug!

It's a drugstore beetle, and the infestation has reached such proportions due to Terminix inability and idiocy, that several of the exterminators won't even take on the job, and the ones who will are saying I have to have all my flooring ripped out and replaced, and there is a chance that they are even nesting in the sheetrock.

How can they possibly solve the problem if they can't even identify it? I wonder how many times they just 'get lucky' and the chemicals work?

Apparently my beetles feed on the chemicals terminix uses, so all they did was make the problem worse. Great.

I will tell everyone to stay far far away from terminix. They are quite possibly the worst pest control company in the industry.. not to mention how horrible their customer service is. There should be a class action suit against them.

This is BY FAR the worst company I have ever dealt with. Know how I got these ### back? I had an orange bumper sticker with white lettering made that says Terminix Sucks! I've had it on the back of all my vehicles for th past 15 years. I take great comfort in knowing this has cost them hundreds times more in potential new business than the 2 large they stole from me.

The ONLY answer to a termite problem is Termidor. Let me save you much time and money. This is the only 100% effective solution and it isn't nearly as much as dealing with the Orange and white mullets that is Terminix. Do yourself a huge favor...

Google Termidor
