Charged $40 to do NYState IncomeTax and it was WRONG...I had to pay another 50% after NY audited it. I could have done the taxes wrong for FREE! Very disappointed in this result.

I usually use turbo tax or the H&R Block software. Tried this to free e-file for my state. According to what I just filled out I would get less than half of the federal and about $60 less in state refund than what turbo tax calculated. I think it has to do with the EIC that for the life of me I can't get this software to allow. It also wouldn't allow me to enter interest I've paid to my mortgage company.

I've used many efile software over the years from paid to to free stuff. This is the least user friendly and intuitive software I've run across. There are better options out there for you! Look around.

I got tired of paying turbotax hundreds of dollars for self-preparing taxes. Taxslayer saves a lot of money and it is legitimate. I got refunds and filed taxes for years through this service.

I have used Tayslayer personally for about 5 years now and I appreciate the ease with which they make such a complicated task. I am currently working part-time for an accountant that uses very suspicious software and I'm looking into helping her convert over to Taxslayer Pro. On a personal note, I've been reading over several of the complaints and reviews and I just have to laugh because the Taxslayer representative clearly points out where the mistake was made. Rarely did I see where the "customer" apologized when they realized that their issue was not really Taxslayers fault. My recommendation for anyone looking for tax preparation software is to do a thorough investigation into the company that you are trusting in your financial future. I personally true this software and will continue to use it.

I used tax slayer in April and I got an email recently that says I have to log back in to access my refund, but the site won’t let me login because it’s asking for a code. I was never given the code I was given is not being excepted, and no matter which number I call nobody picks up it’s nothing but a machine I can’t seem to get in contact with anyone, I’m think this is a scam. They are software says I was supposed 1872$ But I can get that money because I can’t log back in.

I cant get a hold of noone and all I have is a question too high of a fee for short form!

They advertised free filing but snuck in a $70 payment at the end and tried to deduct it from my tax return. Manipulative practices.

I have been using tax slayer for many years! I've have not had any issues! Anytime I do have a question they respond in a timely fashion!

They do not offer features that even their help features say are available. They are a joke! Also they try to charge you an arm and a leg!

I have used tax slayer for a few years! It states they are FREE yet I'm charged every year! This year they are trying to charge me $78. How can this be resolved?!?!

Bait & switch! Horrible for lower income! Say's it's free then after filling in all the info it sends you an e-mail conformation & switches you without your approval! I paid $64.90 for this "FREE" service! I tried twice & they switched me both times. I gave up & just paid the fee for this so called "FREE" service! I'm using *** next year. SCAMMERS!

IRS.gov lists them as a free tax filing resource for low income filers. This is a lie. I filed out my forms and they still kept trying to charge me. When I called, their representative and her supervisor claimed that it was my fault for using the irs website to get to TaxSlayer's website. When I argued the point because it was a ridiculous claim, they hung up on me.

I was extemely happy until I received our refund which was short by $88.00. I chose the no fee option all the way through the forms and at the end it never said anything about fees. So when I got the refund and it was less than expected I called them and they said that I had to pay because I had certain items on my form that charged a filing fee but nothing ever told me I was to be charged that fee. I'm not a stupid person and I read all the forms in detail so they are not up front when charging you fees...BEWARE!

My return is as easy as it gets, and this scam of a company tries to upgrade you at every screen to their 'classic' return, and makes it especially difficult to stay on the 'simply free' return. I used them for 2018 and 19, but will be going elsewhere for 2020. The worst part is they have you go through the whole process, just to tell you at the absolute very last instance, that you have upgraded, with no explanation or easy way to find out why. Classic bait and switch. Bad business practices. I've never felt the need to leave a ComplaintsBoard.com review for any company, until now.

They advertise free filing but sneak upgrade you to a charged package and make it as hard as possible to downgrade your service package. You should have seen it coming when they hid the Simply Free option at the bottom of the page underneath all the paid plans though. They claim that they only use your personal information for "products and services you specifically request or consent to", but they try to trick you into paying for service by hiding notifications that they're "upgrading" you. (Often behind an undefined asterisk.) Additionally they require you to opt-out of data collection by four third parties, it's hidden as a link in the Terms of Service.

We filed my 17 year old son's return and he had a small amount of dividends/capital gain (insignificant really). That return went through fine for filing for free for Fed and State. Then we attempted same thing for my daughter. She had even less income and less dividends/capital gains. At the very end of the process the system switched her over to "classic" and attempted to charge her for a federal return and a state return which was more that she would have even had as a refund. I wonder how many other people this happens to and just go on. It is a classic bate and switch for the public. IMHO this is why this should be handled by the government an not these companies which seem to be robbing the public.

EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATED SYSTEMS AND LEAVE YOUR INFORMATION AND SOMEONE MAY CALL YOU BACK. AND THEN NO ONE AT TAX SLAYER HAS ANY INFORMATION FOR YOU OR KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU AND THEY PUSH YOU RIGHT BACK TO THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM. BUT GUESS WHAT TAX SLAYER GOT THEIR MONEY THOUGH. LOL I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE USE THEM AGAIN AND I SUGGEST NONE OF YOU DO EITHER. STICK WITH *** OR *** YOU WILL BE WAYYYYYY MORE SATISFIED. Got rejected for putting my dad who has had identity fraud happen and can't get any help from the IRS to get the IP PIN to e-file. They both go hand to hand of not being helpful and a complete waste of time. All I want is a refund so I can just file another year by mail since I am not filing this year. Waste of money, do yourself a favor and use *** someone who does care of your situation rather than use a completely capitalistic company who cares about your money and not your taxes, the situation, or you. Great job for being A rated by ComplaintsBoard.com, don't know how you are. Thank you for taking my money and not helping me one bit at all. You guys are completely worthless, you guys are the main reason why I will go out of my way and take my w-2s to an actual tax professional who will actually take care of a human being. Upon inquiring about filing my late 2018 and current 2019 taxes i was told they would only charge me for 2018($35 aprox)and file 2019 free. I was ok with that. Had no problem with 2019 filing but after finishing my 2018 tax form i came to a page(with no directive options/aka dead end)that explained that they could not e file prior years taxes(no mention of this when i gave my credit card number couple hrs earlier)and i would need to paper file through regular mail. I didn't really have a problem with this until i realized there was no instructions on how to copy or print out the work i had finished for 2018. Again i was at a page that just explained they could not help me e file this form(no directive on how to keep my finished form or even how to print out a blank 2018 tax form so i could start over and then send it in the mail). The next day i ended up downloading the forms from different tax service(cost me $20 more)and filling out/mailing on my own. A week later i was looking at my bank statement and seen they had still charged me. I emailed tax slayer about this and they have just sent me the same email 3 times telling me no refunds(but no explanation). I have a feeling this duplicate email has been sent out to many who have been wronged like myself. If this stops anyone from giving this shady company any more money it was worth my time. And if TAXSLAYER reads this id like to say take my $35

Let me first say that I have used TaxSlayer to do my taxes for quite a few years and have never had any issues with anything! Never, have I had any issues, nothing was ever computed incorrectly, etc.. Until 2020, I entered all of my information correctly, including the stimulus information as it when and how it was asked in the TaxSlayer program. Once my return was submitted and accepted it seemed like it was taking forever for my refund. I would check the site and it would just say "being processed". I finally receive my return and it a lot less than what it was calculated to be. I messaged TaxSlayer, they say that I have to contact the IRS, it could be for various reasons. I try calling, everything is automated, but get a response that states I would be receiving a letter. I receive that letter about a week and a half later. The letter gives you a list of different reasons of why the difference, so out of the list you determine which one is the reason, mine was calculated incorrectly. Well, like I said I have done my taxes for years and have never had this happen! In reviewing some of the comments about TaxSlayer and other people having this same thing happen to them with 2020 taxes, I believe that their is flaw in their system with the Stimulus and how it was calculated. I feel that this is something that should not be on us. We pay TaxSlayer. If this is was an error in their system, then ok, we know things happen, but make it right. Make sure that we are refunded the $ we are due. Don't turn this around on all of us and say we input/entered information incorrectly! As of this point, I will no longer we using TaxSlayer. I feel after the issue I have had with them in 2020 and after reading other's comments basically being the same as mine I know that this was not an input error on my end. It is a program/system error that TaxSlayer needs to address. Thank you.

So this service is not helpful at all... I have used it for several years and every time I think I have the problem solved something else pops up... first it was a letter from the IRS telling me I hadn't paid school taxes since 2015... I put all the information into my return for taxslayer. I definitely paid them. So I call and file the individual returns. For 2015 2018 and 2019 (conveniently the only years I used tax slayer were the years that were missing. So I filed and I paid the fines for having done every thing late. Then when I went to file this year I paid for the premium service spent hours on the phone making sure everything was right and told that they don't file school taxes but there was a voucher included in my return that I just needed to print and mail. So I did that. Cool... THEN a month or two ago a letter saying I haven't filed my city taxes in the last two years... you have got to be kidding me?!? So I go out and file these as well with the IRS and now I am getting a letter that they want me to submit copies of all my w2s and the front page of my returns from the last 3 years... okay well I go to log in to tax slayer to pull the copies of these returns and it says my account is not there. I try forgot user name forgot password and nothing. Then I googled their number and tried calling for log in assistance and they tell me it's after hours and to call back during the buisness hours listed on my account that I can't log into... I looked into my email and found my user name and tried resetting my password but it just says my account is locked or my information doesn't match anything in their system and to try again...

So now I am at risk of audit I am pretty sure because this service doesn't really file everything for you even though they lead you to believe that they do. And I can't access my old returns or call anyone for help. And I am at a total loss and utterly fuming. I have a week to find and submit this information and no where to look for it.

Trash company not worth it. It's cost me 100s in late fees and bull crap because they aren't upfront and they don't do everything. Just pay someone to do it. It's not worth it at this point.

Last year my girl would have received $532 less than she would have but we went to the state site and were able to repair it. We asked for a refund from TaxSlayer, didn't happen and it was the STATE that told us our form was wrong, then they worked with us (they could not cite why). Some kind of data-transfer-error. This year I have had to type in my Identity Protection PIN numerous times only to be told it's incorrect and the IRS rejects my submission. I have been doing my own tax returns now for forty-one (41) years and this is the second year they've had issues and the first time I have been rejected. Anyway, after 3 hours and 19 minutes the first-time, I was disconnected as the ID.Me person picked up on my call which led to another 2 hour and 47-minute wait where I went through the whole rigamaroo only to find I have been typing the correct number the whole time. I switched from a competitor and WOW! What a mistake! Price nearly doubled since last year too and I didn't use discount-codes as I was unaware of any. Anyway, since I waited well into October for their last-year's error, (I filed in February- some kind of issue with a Stimulus Payment [I didn't ask for] I corrected but it still got submitted incorrectly) and it looks like there is yet another state issue with this year's submission. It's the same issue too, bad data transfer. I should go back to the old-fashioned way... paper. What a concept! If it takes weeks longer, it's better than the months I've been waiting through TaxSlayer's service. 100% guarantee, but not after you file the paperwork is what I was told last year. I thought I would give them a second chance, but I find they are more like politicians than tax assistants... full of what they're shoveling. Stay away from these folks at all costs. ESPECIALLY if you're in Montana. The only thing dormant up here is the Yellowstone Volcano in neighboring Wyoming. No more second chances, for anybody involving anything.

ADDITIONAL INFO: After publishing this I finally got my State and Federal taxes through. Funny thing though, I got my State tax return through the Direct Deposit but interestingly after putting this up my Federal got snail-mailed to me after publishing this (both were set-up Direct Deposit). Not implying anything but I can definitely say "never again."

I tried Taxslayer 'cause I don't gotta do no more fiduciary tax returns. I spent hours puttin' in all my 9 rental properties and their stuff like assets and investment income and whatnot. But then I did a like kind exchange last year and I had to call support like a bunch of times 'cause TaxSlayer don't support them forms for like kind exchanges. It's a real bummer, man. I ain't happy with them at all and I ain't gonna tell nobody to use 'em. They gotta be honest and not say they support all the forms when they don't.

So, I just finished doing my taxes for 2021 on TaxSlayer. To be honest, I was pretty shocked when I went to file them and saw that they were charging me almost $70 for filing fees! I mean, seriously? I was just doing the basic 1040 with no extra forms and standard deduction. I couldn't believe that TaxSlayer was the most expensive online tax prep company out there. Who in their right mind would pay that much money for something that should be simple and straightforward?

Luckily, I decided to do some research and found Tax Hawk. Not only was it super easy to use, but it only cost me $14.99 total for filing both federal and state taxes. I couldn't believe the difference in price between the two companies. It's pretty clear to me that TaxSlayer is way overpriced and not worth the money.

Honestly, I think it's time for TaxSlayer to go the way of Myspace and the Dodo bird. There are so many other options out there that are much more affordable and just as easy to use. I would definitely recommend looking into other tax prep companies before deciding to use TaxSlayer. Don't waste your hard-earned money on something that's not worth it!

I've been doing taxes for a long time now, and I've tried a bunch of different efiling programs. Taxslayer is one of the ones I've used, and it's pretty good. But lately, their prices have gone way up. I guess it's because the IRS has a free efiling program now, so Taxslayer doesn't have to worry about following all the rules as closely. But that doesn't mean they should charge so much!

There are other programs out there that are just as good as Taxslayer, but they don't cost as much. So if you want to save some money, try one of those instead. Maybe if enough people switch, Taxslayer will realize they need to lower their prices.

Man, let me tell you about my experience with TaxSlayer. It was a hot mess, I tell ya. I was trying to do my taxes for someone else and the free option wasn't even clear until the very end. Like, come on, TaxSlayer, don't be playing games with me like that. And then they hit me with a charge of $89.90 for some extra services. I mean, I sighed and agreed because the person I was doing taxes for said it was okay, but still. And get this, they never even asked me for payment. What kind of operation are they running over there?

And don't even get me started on how slow and clunky the site was this year. Someone else mentioned it too, so I know it's not just me. I used to use Credit Karma for my taxes, but they changed companies and I could never get the new site to work. It's like all these tax sites just want to lie to you and hit you with ridiculous fees. I mean, seriously, why do they do this to us? It's all a joke, I tell ya. I feel like writing to Bernie Sanders about this mess. Thanks a lot, Congress.

TaxSlayer is a website that is said to be State of the Art. It was previously used by H and R Block and the Walmart Foundation. However, my experience with the website was not so great. I found that you get what you pay for in this case.

When I first visited the website, I was asked to identify myself and provide basic information. However, after doing so, I found myself going round in circles. I was not able to access any forms or choose the simplified tax forms. I also could not fill out the financial information that is on a paper version of a tax form. It was frustrating because I got absolutely nothing accomplished.

I tried to fill out the tax form, but I got nowhere. The website kept asking me the same three questions over and over again. I felt like I was just going round and round in circles. It was a waste of my time and energy.

Overall, I was disappointed with my experience with TaxSlayer. I would not recommend this website to anyone who is looking for a reliable and efficient way to file their taxes. It is important to do your research and find a website that is trustworthy and easy to use.

TaxSlayer is a tax preparation software that allows you to file your state and federal forms with ease. They claim to have everything checked out and all you have to do is wait for federal/state confirmation. However, my experience with TaxSlayer has been less than satisfactory.

In both 2019 and 2020, I received confirmation that everything was done correctly and that my federal/state returns were accepted. TaxSlayer wasted no time debiting my bank account for their fee. However, shortly after filing, I received a notification from the IRS that instead of being issued a refund, I would have to pay them between $1100-$1300.

This was a huge disappointment for me. I trusted TaxSlayer to handle my taxes correctly, but instead, I ended up owing the IRS a significant amount of money. It seems that all TaxSlayer wants is to collect a fee from you, without taking responsibility for any errors that may occur.

Overall, I would not recommend TaxSlayer to anyone. Their service is unreliable and their customer support is lacking. I will never use TaxSlayer again and I suggest that you look elsewhere for a tax preparation software that you can trust.

I'm no tax expert, but I've used a few different tax software programs in my day. Usually, I stick with Turbo Tax or H&R Block, but I decided to give TaxSlayer a try for my state taxes this year. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed with the results.

According to TaxSlayer, I was going to get less than half of what Turbo Tax had calculated for my federal refund, and about $60 less for my state refund. I'm not sure why there was such a big difference, but I think it might have something to do with the Earned Income Credit (EIC). For some reason, I just couldn't get TaxSlayer to accept it.

Another issue I had with TaxSlayer was that it wouldn't let me enter the interest I've paid to my mortgage company. I'm not sure if this was a glitch or if the software just doesn't allow for that kind of deduction, but it was frustrating nonetheless.

It's not very intuitive, and I found myself getting lost in the menus and options more than once. If you're looking for a good tax software program, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. I recently used TaxSlayer to file my taxes and I have to say, I was not impressed. While I was able to complete my federal form without any issues, I ran into a major problem when it came to my state form.

As I was starting to fill out my state form, I received an error message that said "Oops, there was an error...". I tried clicking the "Try Again" button, but it did nothing. My only other option was to click the "Exit State Return" button, which then immediately congratulated me on completing my state form. Confused, I clicked "Continue" only to be told that my state form could not be filed due to verification errors.

To make matters worse, there was no way for me to access the state form that had apparently been both completed and not completed. I was stuck in an endless loop, repeating the same steps over and over again. Eventually, I had to give up and bail on TaxSlayer altogether.

Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my experience using TaxSlayer. The lack of access to my state form and the confusing error messages made the process much more difficult than it needed to be. I would not recommend this service to anyone looking to file their taxes.

I had a really frustrating experience with TaxSlayer. I had an account with Dave Ramsey's tax service and I wrote down my login information, but for some reason, I couldn't access my account. I tried calling their customer service number, but I kept getting disconnected. It was really frustrating because I needed to file my taxes and I couldn't get any help from TaxSlayer.

In the end, I had to print out my tax forms and mail them to the IRS. It was a hassle, but I didn't have any other choice. I was really disappointed with TaxSlayer and I don't think I'll ever use their service again. It's just not worth the hassle.

The worst part was that I couldn't talk to a real person. The customer service number just kept hanging up on me. I tried calling over 7 times and each time, I got disconnected. It was really frustrating and I felt like I was wasting my time.

Overall, I would not recommend TaxSlayer. Their customer service is terrible and their website is not user-friendly. If you're looking for a tax service, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Don't waste your time with TaxSlayer.

State Return complaint and not guaranteed maximum return. I compared Taxslayer to another company and there was a difference. The other company asked me during my State return if I paid rent, I replied with yes, I entered in my rent payments for the year, and behold my return went up. I went back to Taxslayer and that question was never asked of me I found it buried inside the credits for Wisconsin. I contacted Taxslayer and was informed that I would have to use the guided option for that to be available. My son uses Taxslayer so we used the guided option, got to the state return and no question was asked. Because Taxslayer never asked me for this information I have been shorted on my state returns for the past 3 years since I moved to Wisconsin.

Use this program for 4 Federal returns. All 4 returns had a refund of 1200 on line 30 of 1040. Letter from IRS said this was computed incorrectly. All four federal tax returns were held up due to wrong amount on line 30 of 1040 of 1200 which had to do with stimulus amount. On the forms that the program filled out gave each one an additional 1200 refund which was incorrect. This cause a two mth or longer processing time Hm for refund to be deposited. Very disappointed in this program and will never use again or recommend to anyone. I thought that the program was to help with taxes not do wrong when information was entered correctly by information asked from the program. I think souls get money refunded that all 4 customers had to pay for the program's error.

When I went to the TaxSlayer website to begin my 2020 filing, I was not offered any choice of plans. Upon completing my return, I was overcharged. Later, in going back to the site, a page opened showing a variety of plans, including a basic plan for $17 that would have served my simple needs just fine. This is the plan I would have chosen had I been given the option earlier. I contacted support (2 days after payment) but was refused a refund for the difference between the plans. This was a total lack of transparency and choice, resulting in overcharges on this website!

On March 12, I paid $32.00 and filled out all of the correct information on TaxSlayer.com to do my taxes. The federal was then rejected not once but twice. I then decided to find another site to do my taxes on to see if it was me or if it was them in processing the correct information. I found out through OLT.com that it went through and completely processed. I then contacted TaxSlayer and let them know I was able to complete my taxes with no problem on another site and asked for a refund and they refused to say that once you efile there is no refund regardless of acceptance or rejection. They also told me that my pin was not correct and that they could help me finish my taxes. I decided to come to ComplaintsBoard.com to file a complaint since there was no service rendered and payment was made.

I filed both my state and federal returns using Taxslsayer at the end of January. I got the state refund a couple of weeks later, but my federal refund was taking forever. I get checking the federal Where's my refund site. Tayslayer says they are 100% accurate, but they are not, I checked the tax return to make sure I had put all the dollar amounts in the the right places. I then paid extra to have Taxslayer double check my refund. The refund seemed high($***), but I had checked so throughly and paid to have Tayslayer recheck it...,and they have a 100 % accuracy guarantee, so I thought that for some reason, the refund was higher this year. The where's my refund site finally indicated dependents and wrong numbers reported. Tayslayer totally messed up my tax refund. I have never made a mistake on my taxes and I am 60 years old! I haven't had a dependent for abt 10 years. I checked thoroughly and Taxslayer was paid to do a double check. I will NEVER use Taxslayer aain! ..

I called to say they have a flaw in their state tax returns and they would need to fix this issue so that I could file taxes. The lady kept arguing with me and would not allow me to speak with a manager when I asked several times. She got nasty with me and started yelling at me so yes I yelled back and told her she does not talk to a customer that way it is poor customer service. She kept telling me to look at my pdf and continued to explain to her I had to pay before I could see the the pdf and I was not paying for something when there was a flaw until they fixed the issue. I told her it was not adding the file joint credit but she kept insisting it did. She said the number paid and I kept telling her that us the withheld. It's not adding that credit. She refused to see the flaw in their system and kept saying the system is right. I asked to speak to someone again and she hung up on me. There is a flaw in the system and it needs fixed otherwise they are taking advantage of customers.

I used Taxslayer to file my 2020 tax return and Tax Slayer created my return with errors based on their programming. I didn't receive my recovery cred I didn't receive my recovery credit for my son born 1/24 who didn't receive a stimulus because he was not on my 2019 taxes. I received 2 stimulus checks in 2020 for myself, husband, 4 children Who were included in my 2019 taxes. My oldest son turned 18 2021. However in 2019 he was 16 years old which is why he qualified for the stimulus. Now for my 2020 he isn't considered a qualified dependent. So it shows 2 adults (my husband and myself) and still 4 dependents which removed my oldest and includes my 1 year old. So taxslayers system is saying ok they received a stimulus for 4 dependents and 2 adults. No rebate is needed which is incorrect. I received the stimulus for 4 kids that qualified in 2019 but not for the 1 that qualified in 2020. Stimulus isn't just tied to the number of dependents. North Carolina issued a $335 grant to NC residents with dependents; however, Taxslayer filed the incorrect information with the NCDOR. North Carolina issued a $335 grant to NC residents with dependents; however, I did not receive this grant (in the form of a check) because Taxslayer filed the state return electronically showing I had 0 dependents. I contacted Taxslayer, and they said that they sent out emails showing what needed to be done to receive this grant; however, I never received any instructions or emails from Taxslayer on this subject. I reviewed my emails and did not see any email from them as they stated. I have proof that this email was never sent because I have all emails from Taxslayer (current to past years) since I have been using their software for years. Since I was unable to obtain this grant of $335, I am requesting Taxslayer reimburse me for this amount of $335 that I missed out on because of their faulty software system that incorrectly reported that I had 0 dependents on my 2019 state tax return.
