I first contact Old Mutual earlier in March 2025 to find out if I can claim cash back from my funeral policy because I have not claimed ever, to my surprise I got the shock of my life when I was told that my policy lapsed back in July 2021, to make things worse I was never notified and was surprised because my premiums are deducted directly from my salary and are paid by my Employer directly to them. So no premiums were missed. I then requested them to pay me back all the premiums, they agreed and paid part and then they stopped and when I enquire why not all the money is coming through they stopped all communications, They didn't even bother to call me to find a solution, they just kept quite, I even went to their stores for follow ups, because i also requested a formal cancellation letter so that my employer can stop paying them, even that did not happen. My employer told me that they can't cancel it from their side without a formal notification letter from Old Mutual, but even today that has still not happen. What saddens me the most is that my Employer is still paying them R872 to date for a policy they said had lapsed in 2021.
