I am a member of Nextdoor S. Gosforth UK. My posts are frequently reported & deleted for spurious reasons, particularly if I express an opinion different from the prevailing hard-right view, or even just a different opinion. Appeals are denied by internal moderators and their decision is generally supported - without given reason - by staff. Local leads message other users to ask them to block me and algorithmic reports are used to delete my posts - none of which is against the rules.
Having been suspended for 13 days, my husband activated his account. He was immediately accused of fraud and subjected to bullying and false reporting on everything he posted. Leads demanded he provide private information on the public forum and again, leads messaged other users requesting that he be blocked or his posts reported. He made several reports of such behaviour daily, but nothing was done. Some abusive posts were removed, but the perpetrators were allowed to continue their harassment. Nextdoor is not a safe or welcoming place. It is a place for bigots and bullies
Desired outcome: Nextdoor should ensure that the site is welcoming & safe for everyone. put a stop to bullying, harassment & abuse and suspend the perpetrators or delete their accounts.Stop making advertising revenue off the back of abuse

Uh, the Conservative Christians are the ones who are censored and suspended. There is a hyprocritical stance by Nextdoor that they allow ALL Left-wing comments to remain but remove ALL Conservative Christians comments, posts, opinions. If the Community Guidelines are to be upheld then apply them to LEFT-wing as well. But we Christians know you won't because your agenda is to uphold everything for the Democrat Party.
Depends on where you are located. Its the same in MAGA friendly neighborhoods - where local LEADs and mods, allow, and even contribute, to racist, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, national politics discourse, and try to silence the voice of counter arguments - no matter how civil, factual or logical they are.
The issue is with Nextdoors reliance on 'free' local labor (neighbors), with poor training and oversight, and few 'live' resources and AI-bots to manage 'appeals' and 'complaints'.
I assume that the 'appeals' and 'complaints' overwhelm the 'appeal' capabilities, and so most flagged posts (by local mods) are approved and appeals then automatically denied.
Nextdoor is complicit in this, its just the $$$ trump quality for its business model.
Moderators have no bearing on bans.the terms of
Services and rules of next door are no national politics and no religious content.
But moderators (Leads and the folks they nominate as reviewers and co-mods) can single-out posts for further action by Nextdoor. A group of local mods, with similar views (bias), can single out posts.
Per Nextdoor -
'Additionally, moderation actions on Nextdoor may originate through a combination of member reports, reports submitted by neighborhood moderators or reviewers, and automated detection systems. However, reports alone do not result in enforcement. Reported content is reviewed against our Community Guidelines before any action is taken.'
With a poor 'appeal' process, no transparency on how or why Nextdoor takes action, limited 'live' resources or AI bots, etc., its easy to game the moderation, to target posts and accounts, the local mods dont like.
There is no clarity on why clearly egregious posts (racist, etc.), some even by Leads and reviewers, are allowed to remain on the site, and at the most 'deleted' with no further action to the user, and then some innocuous posts are reported, deleted, AND user accounts suspended. The use of 'disrespectful to neighbors' is a reason commonly used to target user accounts, even though disrespect is relative.
Nextdoor is aware of this, complicit in the moderation abuse, but obviously will have a hard time replacing 'free' local mods - emphasis on the $$$.
And yes, I speak from personal experience!
Sad to see the same Nextdoor moderation abuse in the UK. In the USA, its pretty rampant. Nextdoors business model of relying on poor choices for Leads and reviewers (that the Leads select!), poor oversight, and poor 'appeal' process contribute to the moderation abuse.
I am sure Nextdoor is aware of this; the numerous reviews mentioning this all over the internet allude to this. Yet, Nextdoor is doing nothing to address this, except saying they are trying to be a hyper local site that benefits neighbors ?
It is not and actually with many of its own leading threads - delving into controversial topics and soliciting views - contributes to the negativity, and then provides bait and excuses, for local mods to act on.
