Prodege, LLC, 8605 Santa Monica Blvd PMB 36227, West Hollywood, CA 90069-4109, is the company behind MyPoints, SwagBucks, Upromise, InBox and other online sites in which you can earn points for answering surveys, submitting receipts and so on.
The points earned can typically be redeemed for cash via PayPal or gift cards.
I attempted to cash out enough points on MyPoints for a $15 gift card.
Their system then displayed a error message stating:
"There was a problem sending your verification code. Please note: Prepaid or VOIP phone numbers are not allowed at this time."
This was the same cell phone and number as I've used for five other redemptions of points dating back to 2024 that totaled $85. All my contact information as well as my IP address have remained the same.
Their so called customer service then replied via email that I must submit a photo i.d. through a third party called "withpersona".
"Hello ...
Thank you for reaching out to us, we are happy to assist you.
Before we can proceed with your request, we need to ask that you complete our ID Verification (IDV) process using a government-issued ID. We do this solely to protect your privacy and security, as well as the security of our sites, advertisers, and other valued members, and completion is required to proceed.
We use a trusted, third-party vendor for this IDV process. Please do not attempt to verify in any other way. To begin, just follow this secure link below:
NOTE: PLEASE RESPOND DIRECTLY ON THIS TICKET ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE VERIFICATION PROCESS. ONCE WE RECEIVE YOUR RESPONSE, WE WILL BE ABLE TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST
(LINK REMOVED)"
Withpersona has a horrible rating on TrustPilot and other sites. There are serious concerns about privacy invasion as well as their inept technology. Upon clicking the link and entering my email their system displayed an error message stating they were experiencing a network error so they cannot run their own web site properly. In addition they have no customer service whatsoever as all messages are answered with generic scripted responses. They are 100% untrustworthy.
They run this same scam through their other sites as way to not have to pay out rewards.
Attempting to respond to MyPoints emails will once cause it to bounce back to you unanswered.
None of my banks, credit cards or online payment platforms have my photo i.d. and they are certainly not going get one so it can be used for identity theft.
If they really wanted to verify my identity without invading my privacy they would send a confirmation code to my mailing address, which I've had since 1974.
Recommendation: Avoid MyPoints, SwagBucks, Upromise & InBox - All Run By Same Company
