I called Mr Rooter when the main waste line of my home became clogged. The clean out is in my backyard and stretches 100 to 130 feet. I was told by the call center that the earliest a Plumber could get to my home would be that evening. Everyone else I called couldn’t get there until the next day. A red flag should have gone up when I asked for their pricing...

Mr. Rooter Highway Robbery Yikes!

On May 15th I called upon Mr. Rooter out of the local phone book. The problem was I could'nt take a shower run a faucet anything without water leaking all out from the garage onto the carpet. The tech shows up spending about 15 minutes tracking in and out and comes up with and estimate for 437.43 to cable through drain line with some cheap looking drain cleaner with Mr Rooter all over it, oh yeah and he also wanted to camera down the line for some reason or another. Of course I did what any normal person would do and told him to "GET THE HECK OUT OF MY HOUSE!" After that I walked straight over to George my nieghbor's house and got a phone number of his local plumber, he showed up got straight to work and 35 minutes later he was done cost me 65 dollars, I didn't but no more had the check made out then the phone rang said "MR ROOTER" is was Allison from the company said that the tech that was their previously forgot to collect 67.59 for the estimate that was done. My advice stay far away from Mr Rooter the tech was less skilled than my local tech and they simply want to much money beware! James Oklahoma

I was just watching the "Under Cover Boss" so on TV where I learned that the Dwyer Corp. Inc. was th actual owner of M Rooter, had I seen the program way back when, I would have searched tem then and NEER used Mr. Rooter of Mid-Mi, for my proble.
I live in a manufactured home and when they set the homes they connect the water discharge/drain pipes together they do it with a rubber sleeve that are clamped at both ends. A couple years back the connection to our kitchen sink came apart under the house and all of the drain water, to include the discharge from the garbage disposal ended up spread across the monolithic slab about 1/4" deep, it did smell from the disposal dscharge.
We called Mr. Rooter from the phone book, the Tech showed up the next day, took one look under the house and stated that there was nothing he could do until the water was pumped out and the slab dried, now consider that the water was approximately 1/4" deep, the open pipe was approximately 4 feet and visable from the access port. He had us sign a work order and advised that this Service Call Charge would be deducted from the final cost when he returned to fix the pipe. He then suggested a clean up company to dry the slab.
Drying the slab took a week, where we could not use the kitchen sink at alland had to do a Kramer and wash the dishes in the shower and tub.
Mr. Rooter of Mid-Mi from Hersey returned, the Tech slid under the house, took about three minutes to conect the pipe and reclamp it with the clamp that was there, climbed back out, had us sign the work order that the wok had been done the handed us a bill for over $700.00. When I questioed it he showed that they have a code system for different types of jobs and he has to charge the way the code says regardless of the amout of time it took. I called the company to complain and ended up just hanging up on the Customer Service person as his only explaination was the was the way they did business.

WILL NEVER USE TEM AGAIN!

Mr. Rooter Poor Customer Service - NO communication!

Oct 20, 2008 my sewer line was infiltrated with about 6 ft of roots from my tree (now mind you, I bought my house in Oct '06.) I paid $9100 to have MR. ROOTER (pieces of Sh%#) come out, put approx 30 ft of liner in, and they "fixed it" with a warranty. (Long story short...)
Oct 20, 2009... "Happy 1 Year Anniversary!" Guess what... Roots are back @ 20 ft, sewer needs to be re-lined again. They came out, told me it was under warranty (duh), and said someone would get back to me Friday... that was 2 days ago. I just called again and left a message for Scott the mgr to contact me. The last time I called, Wed, I was told that someone would contact me soon. What the hell is "soon" to them? I'm trying to be patient, however it's wearing thin. [protected], feel free to call them.) And they also told me taking out the tree wouldn't have made a diff.
CURRENT:
This is a now "warranty fix." It began on October 19, [protected]@ about 7:30pm... still not fixed. I finally got a call from Scot and spoke w/ him in Vegas on this past Friday and has was very rude and curt. This was all AFTER calling Anthony, in Los Angeles (above Scott.) I had asked Scott, since I have had to take time out of MY day, MY family and My work to make all these calls and to get someone to contact... can someone compensate me, after all, it's been going on for a year (off n' on...) & $9100 (paid October 2008.)
* Scott's reply was: "I'm NOT going to pay YOU to fix YOUR problem."
What a great representative of the company... NOT!

I called Mr. Rooter to repair my leaking toilet. The cost for a visit was $63, and that would be deducted from the repair bill. The plumber arrived and said there is a $241 charge to lift the toilet. I agreed to the charge because there is no other way to repair the leak! I needed a new flange and wax ring, the repair qoute was $1, 414! It was late and the work could resume in the morning. The next morning I went on line and found out that the parts cost less than $20, and the average flange repair costs $300 - $400! I called a plumbing company and was quoted $350! I canceled Mr Rooter, but I was stuck with a $241 bill! Take my advise, call anybody but Mr. Rooter!

Mr. Rooter Caveat Emptor

My sewer line was blocked. I called Mr. Rooter because I saw them in town all the time, always on the move. They came over, went to my basement and ran a fiber-optic camera into my system. Then they ran a rooter and pulled out a bunch of tree roots. They told me they'd need about an hour to clean the pipes out, and it would cost me about $75. I agreed to it, and went upstairs to do some miscellaneous cleaning. When I finished with the cleaning, I realized they were still working (it had been nearly three hours. They told me that they had completely cleared the pipes, showed be a pile of muddy tree roots, and told me I'd be good for another 5-7 years before the roots grew back. I asked if they had a way to stop the root growth, and they said that the only way to do it would be to tear down the tree (oak, about 120 years old). They gave me the bill ($325!) and told me I had 15 days to pay it.

4 months later, the pipes became blocked again. I called another service--this time one that my parents recommended--and they told me that the blockage was throughout the pipes, all the way to the street, and that I would have to pay five or six-hundred dollars to clear it, then approximately $50/month to keep it cleared. They then recommended I replace the tile (the pipe to the street) because they had found some broken pieces while looking at it. My father, my brother, a friend & I decided to re-root the pipe ourselves and then find the broken spot (it was between the sidewalk and the street). We dug it up, and found that the pipes between the house and the street didn't seal. One pipe was of a larger diameter than the other, and they were just set together. Two weeks and about $50 later the problem was solved.

I made several complaints to the Mr. Rooter company for their falsification of information, overcharging, and outright fraud, but I couldn't reach anyone in person or by phone; and I decided to swallow the loss and tell everyone I knew about the company.

Always remember: Caveat Emptor (Let the Buyer Beware! [latin])

Mr. Rooter Charges 2x more than others

I put a new vinyl floor down in my bathroom [DIY], and in the process of hooking up my toilet, I broke the water supply line. Because my condo is 30 years old, I couldn't just replace the hose. The valve and all had to be replaced. I felt it was beyond what I could handle myself, so I called several plumbing companies to see if any of them could send someone over. This was on Sunday morning. My second attempt was with Mr Rooter, who said they could have someone over right away. Very few plumbing companies will give you an estimate over the phone. They all want to send someone over ["free of charge"] before they'll give you a price. I made the assumption [yes, I shouldn't have] that most companies, especially big-name companies, are similarly-priced.

Because I'm a bit of a do-it-yourselfer, I'm fairly familiar with materials prices. I estimated very generously at $30 for parts [just a valve and a hose]. I was, however, in a bit of a panic, being without my toilet and haven broken a line I didn't think I could fix. When the technician quoted the price, he quoted me $234. I was in shock, but I agreed anyways, because at this point, I was a bit beside myself with stress. When he gave me the paper to sign, the price was $254, as there was a "fuel charge" of $20 he forgot to point out. I agreed, because I needed to get it fixed immediately, and it didn't occur to me to call someone else.

To make a long story short, it took him 30 minutes to swap out the valves and replace the hose. I have since had the opportunity to call and talk to a number of plumbers, and have had 2 reputable plumbers tell me the job shouldn't have been more than $125. The invoice I was given has a lump-sum amount, so I have no idea how they arrived at the quoted $254.

I called Mr Rooter, and spoke to the general manager. He explained that I agreed to the price before hand, and that was what he had to charge to keep his business running. I asked him why he felt he had to charge more than twice what other plumbers would charge, and he just repeated himself. Although I said a number of times I believe I was severely overcharged, there was no offer to charge me a more reasonable amount. I also asked three different times for an invoice that broke out the charges, and the request was sidestepped each time.

I have no problem paying a fair amount for work well done, but anyone can see that $254 for 30 minutes of work is just plain unreasonable.

I wish i have did my homework first before calling these guys to service my water heater. I had a little pressure valve problem few days ago and it just won't go away, so i called these guys Mr. Rooter and they came in 2hours late on what they promise. Anyway, you have to watch these guys if you decide to hire them (i hope you don't) they came in to my house and i was told that my water settings was set by someone to its maximum settings and i told them that my 3 years old and about 3 months old water heater had never been service nor open by anyone but them. I belieive they deliberately tampered my setting so that to void my warranty. I went inside my house for a minute and i think that's when they did their crooked doings or cheating ways.I was charged $ 233.58 for about 20 minutes unworthy worked. Also, i called up the office and that woman won't give me details on why my bill is only set as a whole bill and not detailing on how much is the labor charge. Be Careful...

I called Mr. Rooter, 230 Bank Street, Midland Park, NJ, to clear four underground gutter drains and one drain in the driveway. The quote was $732.00 for the first two hours and approximately $350.00 for each additional hour.Thinking this was a reasonable price for clearing five drains, I agreed.

Mr. Rooter cleared one drain in less than one half hour but stated that they were unable to clear the other four drains and that I should call a landscaper to fix the problems. Mr. Rooter was at my home for less than one hour, most of it explaining why they could not unclog the additional four drains. You can imagin my SHOCK when they presentedd me with a bill for $783.24.

To add insult to injury, a letter to Steve Phykitt, President, Mr. Rooter, was ignored without the common courtesy of a response.

I should add that after the fact, I checked for complaints againt Mr. Rooter organizations throughout the country and found an extraordinary number. I suggest that anyone considering the services of Mr. Rooter first search for compaints on the internet.

I had a blockage in my bathrooms I called because the ad said there were no after hour charges and a plumber could be dispatched shortly within minutes. The plumber arrived at 10:00pm, I called at 6:00pm. No one called to communicate an ETA I had to keep calling them. When he did arrive he was very vague and said he could not run a snake to unclog my drains and that he would have to run a camera through my roof and find out where he would need to install cleanouts. It cost me 327.50 for him to be there for an hour. I asked if he could just make a temporary fix so I could stay in my house for the night. He said he could not do that and would need to come back and I would have to pay for a three part process, the next phase would be $787.00 and I could expect to pay him $1000 to do everything. I called drain doctor and the city and it costs me $156.00 to have the drains unclogged the next day. BE AWARE-Their plumbers are paid by commission. Go FIGURE! He was going to snowball his prices with this process scheme and he did nothing. This company will get your credit card information first before they come out on your property. DO NOT USE MR. ROOTER for your plumbing needs.

Mr. Rooter always overcharges. Never use them. Go with a local plumber and not a franchise who generally has technicians that are inexperienced. Most Mr. Rooter's technicians do not even have their licenses. Just ask. Mr. Rooter is just a huge scam based in Waco, TX. They rip off their franchisees. They rip of their customers. They rip off their employees. They are owned by an evil corporation hostile takeover firm known as Riverside based in New York City. They are all about taking your money. Do not use them EVER!

Are you kidding me? You think that 254 bucks to have somebody come to your home on a Sunday is too much? You need a touch of reality along with those other plumbers who were not around to fix your problem.

Your are not seeing that the company has to pay the guy from the time he left his house until the time he gets home at overtime rates. Forget about the 1/2 hour he was at your home. Probably at least 2 hours minimum were spent on your call.

The Mr Rooters know what their cost of doing business is. Frankly, I think you got a great deal. For a Sunday should have been a lot more.

Mr. Rooter Repairs caused significant damage to our property

Mr. Rooter is possibly the worst plumbing company I've ever done business with. It is so discouraging to think that they swindled us out of $1500 for a job that completely destroyed our concrete porch floor and our foundation. We called them out to our house originally to clear the main drain line out due to a back-up. After several unsuccessful attempts, they started to pull up red clay from the clean-out pipe. So, they stuck a camera down there, only to find that the pipe had completely dissolved on the bottom...and it was Orangeburg pipe. (basically heat-treated tar paper with sealant, dating back to the 1960's). Mr. Rooter's estimate was lower than most other estimates that we got, so we gave them the go-ahead to do the work. They came out several days later and began cutting and removing the concrete above the pipe. (About 35' long, and 2 1/2 feet wide.) They dug down to the pipe, pulled it all up and began replacing it with PVC pipe. They left the old pipe pieces laying in the yard, and concrete dust EVERYWHERE! It was a huge mess. They also neglected to put more than 100lbs of dirt back where they laid the pipe. (and yes, I put the dirt in trash bags and weighed it.) A few days after the pipe passed inspection, they came back out and filled the hole in and began replacing the concrete. I have no idea if they used rebar or wire mesh or anything to support the new concrete...because the concrete they poured has completely settled and cracked entire the slab under our porch... all the way to the foundation! It took more than 3 months for me to actually talk with the manager about the problem, as their extremely rude receptionist kept saying that the manager would return my calls. He never did call me back. I called again one day and demanded the manager's cell phone number. Finally, I got to tell him what happened. He immediately told me that the house had coincidentally settled, and that they were not responsible for the damages...and he had not even looked at it yet! I recently contacted the BBB regarding this claim, and he still refuses to accept responsibility. He did, however send a document offering to send me a settlement check for $150 after we sign and return the document and release them of all liability for the damages related to their repairs. He knows that they made a mistake, and yet refuses to accept responsibility. As a paying customer, our satisfaction should be a priority to Mr. Rooter...however it is NOT! They don't care about our property or your property, or anything after they get their money! My advice is to completely avoid these crooks. Their address is 8132 West Reno Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73127...so if you live in the OKC area pick someone else or you'll regret it like I do!

We have recently had a very similar experience with the OKC Mr. Rooter. We called them to clear our blocked main drain line. In the process of snaking the pipe they broke their snake off in the pipe. They then told us they had to cut in to the pipe to get it out and that they would patch it. I've since found out that drain lines should NEVER be cut. 4 days later everything including the toilets backed up. As soon as we started digging over the area where they had cut, sewage started bubbling up. We immediately called them and demanded that they send someone out to properly patch the pipe. It's been two weeks. They say they'll send someone and then at 6 pm they have their after hours office call and say no one can come. The horrible receptionist has also told us the manager will call us back. No call. These people are criminals and I will be filing a claim with the BBB. Thank you to the person who made the above post because we are now going to try to call the corporate office as you suggested.

This is the way Mr. Rooter and the Dwyer Group operates. They never take responsability for their actions. You should ask for their insurance information and file a claim against their insurance. In fact, the Dwyer Group (whose phone number is above [protected]) has the local franchise's insurance information on file. So, if the local franchise will not give you their insurance information you should get it from the Dwyer Group. Demand It!

Mr. Rooter Unfinished work

Called them out because Basement was backing up due to Roots in the Main line. Quoted 1.5Hr and 100Ft of Cleaning. Plumber found seperation in line and claimed had to stop that his equipment got stuck. Claimed if it got stuck would have to break ground to repair line. Left partialy cleared line. Basically would not complete the job unless Main was to be replaced. When I explained other plumbers provided quotes, they wanted to know who so they can report them for working on a Main line that was broken. When I explained it was to clear the line until I can fix, they indicated that I can be reported for not repairing the line to the city.

This isn't true on many levels. First, Mr. Rooter never quotes a job by time or distance. They have a flat rate and woiuld not leave a job without opening the line or giving a quote for a repair. They would never report a problem to the city if a customer decides against a repair. This sounds like a competitor not a customer because Mr. Rooter doesn't do business like that.

Mr. Rooter Sloppy Job

We had Mr. Rooter in to clean out our sewer drain that backed up into our basement. Every time I talked to the tech, the price went up, up, up. By the end of the day the total cost to clean some roots out of the line totaled over $1, 500.00. Mr. Rooter advised that we should replaced the line in our front yard - which we agreed. When they completed the work, we were left with a 3 foot high pile of dirt (approx 30 foot long). We then had Trumbull County come in to finish the work from their easement to the road. When they walked away, they left only a pile of dirt about 6 inches high. Big difference. When we called Mr. Rooter and asked them to come back and pack their pile in so there is not such a mess, they advised that they did not do landscape. We told them we did not want landscaping, us that they clean up their mess. They now want an additonal $250.00 to finish their work. We had paid them $4, 200.00 to replace the line in the front yard. Why should we have to pay an additonal $250.00? What a joke.

Mr. Rooter of North Central Ohio came to our house because we had a shower that wasn't draining. They charged us $362.94 and when they left we were advised by Mr. Rooter that we still could not use our bathroom or kitchen sink until we paid them an additional $500.00 (which started out at $868.00 and came down) to have them clean out our main line under the house which they wanted us to schedule that day. We told them that we wanted to think about it and the next day I called around to get competitive prices. We had the line cleaned out the next day for $267.00 and when asked other companies we called if they would have made two separate calls and charged us twice we were always told "no" that it would have been one charge and all were a fraction of Mr. Rooter. They also sold us chemicals for over $50.00 that I am researching now and starting to suspect I can buy for around $10.00. Of course no one in the plumbing business that I have talked to can tell me that these make any difference at all in your drains remaining cleaner. What a ripoff Mr. Rooter is.

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to explain and understanding how sanitary excavations are brought back to "construction grade" and that putting gravel in to "bed" pipe is the proper way to install a new sanitary line. By following this procedure it assures code compliance and stability of pipe pitch. Gravel does displace dirt which will cause an increase in dirt pile height almost equal to the amount of gravel placed under and over the pipe.
Anytime you have a new sanitary line installed be sure the contractor beds the pipe with gravel.

Mr. Rooter Fraud POOR Customer Service

The statement made over the phone when you calll Mr. Rooter is as follows, “There's never an overtime charge. Mr. Rooter Plumbers are clean and professional, and it gets fixed right the first time. There is no extra charge for nights or weekends, and you know the price before any plumbing work is performed. Mr. Rooter Plumbers guarantee workmanship and parts.” I called Mr. Rooter to get a quote for service on the sewer lines at my house, I was told that if we had a cleanout that the fee would be $185.00 and that if we did not have a cleanout that the charge would be over $200, because that toilet would have to be removed for the snake to be used. I made the appointment for the plumber to show up between 9 am and 11 am on June 9th. The plumber arrived at the house 1/2hour late. When the plumber started to check for the clean out I point it out to an opening on the north side of the house (outside), to which the plumber Larry agreed that it was the cleanout. After the plumber flooded the line, he ran a 100’ snake from the outside clean out. When he pulled out the snake he said that he had not reached the clog. Therefore, I requested for him to please run the snake from the cleanout that is locate on the spare restroom, to which he did. When he pulled the snake he noticed that he had not reached the clog and he said that we need it to put in a double Y cleanout in the front of the property. The quote that he gave us for the double Y was for over $1500.00. I told him that it was too expensive and that I could not afford it at that time, and I asked him if he had a longer snake to which he said yes. I requested for him to please use that snake to see if he could reach the clog and he refused because it was too big and that it would not fit through the front door. I told him that he could use the sliding doors located in the rear of the house, he refused. Larry called his manager and informed him of what was going on and he told Larry to let us know that the $185 that we paid him would go to the $1500.00 that we needed to pay for the double Y. The next day I called another plumber who was able to fix the problem for less.

NOW I CANNOT GET ANY TYPE OF CREDIT AND I CALL AND CALL THE COMPANY AND THEY JUST GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROCEDURE IS TO CALL THE NEXT DAY TO WHICH I DID BUT THE GUY WHO ANSWER DID NOT CARE AND WAS RUDE. WHAT A FRAUD.

Mr. Rooter Highway Robbery!

My wife called to have a bathroom faucet replaced and as she told them the drain was a little slow and we wanted that fixed as well.

The Plumber showed up and was here for about 20 minutes and he came up with a quote of $612.02!

I thought this was a bit on the high side but with the busy schedule and a lack of confidence to fix it myself I wrote out the check.

Then he mentioned that this was just an estimate and someone would call Monday to set up a time to do the work... Hello, This was supposed to be done on the same day.

I let it eat at me for an hour and called and told them not to bother setting up an appointment as I thought the price was outrageous.

They wanted $397.90 for a faucet!
Cable sink and do bio treatment $214.12
Oh... the good news... This included labor and he estimated 3-4 hours to do the job!

I went to my local Home Store, Bought a Moen faucet and did the work myself for under $80.00!

I called them and they still requested that I pay $54.99 for the call and estimate... I did pay that to be done with them.

So for less than $140.00 we now have a beautiful new facet and it didn't cost me a weeks pay.

I will think twice about using Mr. Rooter again and will never recommend them to anyone.

Thank You for letting me vent on this forum... I do feel better knowing that I did the work myself !

It's amazing how money will motivate and give you confidence to do the work. ;)

Have a good day!

Mr rooter.. Imo only difference between them and highway robber is robber uses gun.
Small water leak in front lawn. Mr rooter came 1 hr late spent 30 minutes working.. Dig hole 2foot long 1.5 foot deep. Cut out 6" long pvc pipe, glue new 6" long pve pipe in. Fill hole back in. 30 minutes top.

Billed me $225.00 i called pace plumbing/mr rooter to complain about cost and i was told...Well looks like they cut you a break on the price.. They should have charged you an additional $85.00 because they had to break out the shovels and dig hole... So total s/b $315.00!
10 minutes of the 30 minutes was standing around waiting for glue to dry.
I will never use pace plumbing/mr rooter again!

I have to laugh at these comments. Mr. Rooter in SE WI is very professional, never does any work without customer approval. Will even educate their customers for future problems. Also if your going to bash companies that have integrity please learn how to spell. Outrageous it is not spelled "out rages" ! If anyone does have a problem with any Mr. Rooter it is like any other company never judge all when there will always be one bad egg in every type of business.

What a SCAM this business is. They came over to my house for 4 days strait trying to fix my water pressure problem in my showers. They told me that I had bad cartridges in all of my showers. They then told me it was going to cost 500.00 per shower to fix this problem and the reason it was so expensive is because we have Kholer showers and the parts are very expensive. So I agreed to fix 2 showers out of my 4 because my family was desperate for a shower (We just moved into the house)...the first day they came (there was always 2 of them trying to figure it out) one of the men was trying to upsell me on a water softener because he was sure that hard water was the problem(without even looking at the shower) I told him no, no and no 3 more times. So after 4 days of them dancing around the problem, they fixed my kids shower, but was still working on the shower in our master bathroom and told me that they couldn't fix the pressure in the master shower because there was blockage in the pipes in the wall and that they are going to have to rip out the wall to get to the problem ( an 1800.00 fix)...I told them that I wasnt going to rip out my wall just because they have a theory. I told them to just leave and I would figure it out on my own, and they said that's fine and I would just need to pay for the part they "purchased" for that shower. Afer they left I went into the shower they had been working on for so many days without a successful fix and turned the water on and there was still no pressure. I then looked up and noticed that the Mr. Rooter guys had failed to see that the shower head was in the off position and all that was needed was for them to turn it counter clockwise to the on position. (These clowns were going to rip out my wall to fix the water pressure problem when it was the shower head?!)...Where do these Jerks get their training? The second part of the scam is when they told me the price of the Kholer part. Kholer has a lifetime warranty on all their parts and will replace them free of charge. So Mr. Rooter charges you an arm and a leg for these parts just to get the part for free from the manufacturer? If you want to be ripped off then by all means hire these people!? Also, I'd like to meantion this is a brand new home, which means everything is brand new! UNBELIEVABLE!

I had a similar problem RooterRip. A little problem turned into a $10, 000 nightmare. On a Saturday, also happened to be New Year's Day, we had a small overflow in our downstairs half bath. Called these jokers since they were the only ones that would come out. Whun Prescott cleaned the pipe & ran the camera, showing us the roots & debris down there. Had we left it at that, it would have been almost $600. But no, our pipes were in such horrible shape that we needed a complete overhaul. We were quoted over $7, 600 but if we got their little club membership, our special price would be $6, 800. We knew that the pipe had problems so we went ahead & scheduled for Monday. They show up early & started digging the trench to lay new pipe. We warned them of our sprinkler system pipe that ran through the yard & showed them where it was. Centerpoint came out & flagged exactly where the gas/electric lines were. Phone line was flagged. I saw them. Lots of brightly colored flags dotting my yard & fluorescent dust on the grass. After watching 3 of the 5 workers smoke & throw the butts in my yard, I start to hear what sounds like running water. Nope, wasn’t water. They managed to break the gas line. That wasn’t enough. They busted right through the electric too. Why stop there, lets cut the phone line. Yes, no gas, electric, phone/internet, water. Upon calling Mr. Rooter, they aren’t responsible for that. Well I sure as hell didn’t do it. Thankfully Centerpoint & AT&T told us it was policy to bill the contractors when something like this happens. The electricity is another story. For their stupidity, we are stuck with a $2, 900 bill for an electrician. We are still fighting that with them but after reading other people’s horror stories, we’ll probably end up eating that charge. I pledge to write, file, do whatever I can to report Mr. Rooter & let other people know to stay as far away from them as they can and their parent company, Dwyer Group, and their other companies, Aire Serv, Glass Doctor, The Grounds Guys, Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric, Portland Glass and Rainbow International. Don’t let them rip you off too!

I had a large job done by the Mr. Rooter franchise in Haltom City, Texas.
A leaky toilet turned into a total sewer system replacement.
I don't doubt that I needed it, but it took a long time and sometimes they would leave in the middle of the day and not show back up until the next day. After about 11 days, they finished and left, leaving a huge mess in my yard. Plastic sheeting, soda cans, styrofoam packing materials, boxes, etc. I had to go to extreme measures to get them to come back and clean it up. Also had to hound them for days to get a line item breakdown for my insurance company. I would not use this company again, but if you do, make sure you get a second opinion and do not pay unless it is daylight and you can see the finished job.

ha ha i hear you meplumberyay because in onondaga county in upstate ny it takes 5 years as a apprentice to just try and take the journeyman's test even if you get it you cant pull permits your master plumber has to and in order to get that its another 5 years min and usually longer because most dont pass the master's on the first try now im not particular sure how long it takes to be a lawyer or a doctor but im pretty sure its about the same if not longer to be a master plumber so take that into consideration when every one thinks they can do your own plumbing! you wouldn't represent your self if you were on trial and you wouldn't perform your own open heart surgey so when you think you can plumb think again

Dear thepatientone...

Plumbers are highly educated people with 4 years of schooling involved (at least in Canada). Carpenters... are not.

You need to be a certified journeyman with 5 years experience after becoming a journeyman in order to pull a permit and open your own business... carpenters need 2 years experience, no school involved to do this.

So just because your another silly carpenter with a tape measure and a circular saw see plumbers do work around you, does not make you a "skilled" plumber.

"Copper sweat joints simply don't fail unless they are acted on by an outside force or the sweat was not a clean sweat. Neither situation was evident."

WRONG. See if you went to school for plumbing you would have not written that down. Your just another silly carpenter haha. Let me list you some stuff that "acts" on copper which may cause it to leak:
-High pressure in waterlines
-Water hammer
-Something we like to call "venturi effect"
-Non viscous flow

If the sweat held when applied after testing... it was a good sweat. So all i have to say is... WHAT DO YOU KNOW?

Silly carpenters should stick with what they know, measuring twice and cutting once, silly carpenters haha.

[protected], feel free to prank call them.) And they also told me taking out the tree wouldn't have made a diff.

This is a "warranty fix." It began on October 19, 2009@ about 7:30pm... still not fixed. I spoke w/ Scott in Vegas on Friday and has was very rude and curt. (my big work of the day!) This was all AFTER calling Anthony, in Los Angeles (above Scott.) I had asked Scott, since I have had to take time out of MY day, MY family and My work to make all these calls and to get someone to contact... can someone compensate me, after all, it's been going on for a year (off n' on...) & $9100 (paid October 2008.)
* Scott's reply was: "I'm NOT going to pay YOU to fix YOUR problem."
What a great representative of the company... NOT!

Pissed in New Jersey. I have a question for you, are you a Roto Rooter owner? You seem awefully biased. I used Roto Rooter once and they caused $12, 000 damage to my house. The local RotoRooter has had 6 owners in 5 years. My friend runs a plumbing parts store and tells me they are the jokes of the plumbing industry.
C'mon now, fess up Roto Rooter owner. Noone in their right mind would really recommend a joke company unless they are part of it.
I've used Mr Rooter for years. They are always on time, never charge me extra for weekend work and they are very clean and professional. I know they are not cheap, but I want quality and I want to be able to trust my plumber. I tried to trust RotoRooter and it cost me $12, 000.

Mr. Rooter Deceptive practices

Had leak in wall. Called Mr Rooter to get the leak fixed, and since the only way to get to the leak would have been to move the 11-year old water heater, also replace the water heater.

Technician came by, poked holes in wall where there was obviously no water pipes, and quoted me $1164 for replacement of water heater. I decided to go to to home store and purchase retail. Four hours later, technician found and fixed leak, installed water heater, and presented me with a bill for $1700+.

Had lengthy argument with technician and "service" manager as to why bill INCREASED when I supplied the major piece of hardware. Basically, they nickel-and-dime you to death. Basic install fee is $500. Removal (drain & cut pipes) is $246, install of new valves (after they conveniently cut off old ones) is $219. 18" PVC flexible gas line is $93. Fixing leak in wall was base rate of $500. BUT, an extra $145 to cut into the drywall, and copper pipe is a whopping $99 per foot.

Agreed on price of $1000 or all work done (it WAS an off-hours call). After tech left (while on phone with wife complaining about how hard he worked for lousy pay), discovered that he scrawled "no warranty" on the receipt. Called and asked for customer service manager, but have not heard back.

Meanwhile, I've placed hold on check, submitted complaint to BBB and am filling out paperwork to Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners

We recently had the plumbing in our entire house replaced by Mr. Rooter. Now we have a serious sewer leak and the local franchise that performed the install has gone out of business. Corporate refuses to honor the warranty. We spent more than $6, 000 and now we have sewer gas leaking into our house. We don't know what else could be wrong and I don't want anyone else working on the problem because they could then claim that the company that came in to fix it is responsible for the damage. Had I known that I was working with a mom & pop, I would have contracted with a local, more established family run business. I am going to file a complaint with the Texas State Board of Plumbers, the BBB, the Chamber and the parent company, the Dwyer Group. If that does not present some resolution, then I am going to submit my complaint to the media as the parent company is headquartered in Waco, Texas, only 1 1/2 hours from my home. We were completely mislead and I am not going to drop this issue until I get an appropriate resolution, even if that means that I have to go through legal channels. Any suggestions would be helfpul.

Mr. Rooter of Santa Barbara, CA...they advertise as never an overtime charge...that is very misleading! In December 2007 we were charged $300 for snaking our toilet; this was a "discount" off their usual fee of $380. Prior to that, I received two other quotes WITH overtime charges at $165 each PERIOD. I unfortunately went with Mr. Rooter as our tenant did not mention the clog until it was out of hand and they had me over a barrel. They also quoted us $1, 000 to hydrajet our line to the street; this was supposedly a "discount" of $200 off of their supposedly usual fee. Their technician initially quoted my mother $2, 400 to have the same hydrajetting done a month earlier and ended up charging her $1, 200 after she actually cried because of how expensive it was explaining to your technicians that she was retired and on disability...we had the same work done for $400 just a few years earlier. I guess they take advantage of the elderly in addition to ripping people off. I am not going to use Mr. Rooter again and will certainly make sure any of my family and friends know about my disatisfaction with their pricing tactics too. I would much rather pay for an honest company's overtive than someone trying to see how much they can make off someone in distress!

Mr. Rooter overcharge

I had them come over to repair a pin hole leak in a shower pipe. He cut about 6 inches off and sweated on the new piece. I had already removed the drywall and he could reach the pipe easily. He started off by saying that this would be difficult to do. The leak was about 5 inches off of the floor. He got here at 11Am and started the repair at 11:20. He was done at 11:40 AM. Total charge was $299.90. I called their office and was told that they charge by the job and if the repair would have taken two hours the price would be the the same...yeah right! I would not recommend this company to anyone. I will eventualy re-pipe the house but take a guess on who I will not be calling.

Mr. Rooter Fraud and scam

Earlier this summer I had a company install a sump pump in my crawl space. As a temporary measure I ran a cheap 20 ft flex line into the yard. Last week I hired Mr Rooter to run a permanent drain line to the street (70ft.) They quoted $1, 645 which I thought was high, but worth it if the company did quality work. They started the work the next day and spent 2.5 hours on the job and stopped 20 ft short of where the line discharged from the house and about 6'short of the street... Instead of attaching the line to the discharge pipe they tied it into my temporary plastic line and buried it. Altogether they ran 50 ft of pipe which retails for about $30.00 and spent 2.5 hours on the job (one man) and charged me for $1, 000 labor and $600.00 in parts. In addition, the line is running uphill and doesn't drain properly. Unfortunately, he managed to get a check from my wife before he left.

When I called the owner I got the run around. His only excuse was 'your a grown man and you signed the agreement...' He refused to tell me their rates and had no excuse for the cost of the parts. When I pressed him on the labor cost he said they charged $162.50 and had to charge for a full day. I offered to pay 50% and he refused, so I informed him I was stopping payment on the check and I hung up.

The next day his office called me at work and asked if I really stopped payment on the check. With a big smile on my face I said, 'Yeah buddy.'

It's your move Mr Rooter!

Our landlord had Mr Rooter come out due to the main drain line under the mobile home we rent is clogged up. The technician was here less than 15 minutes and did absolutely nothing, as it was too dark out to see. I have no idea what they charged our landlord for doing nothing, I can only imagine
First off they did not show up in the time period they said they would be here, otherwise it would have still been light out. Then he leaves without letting us know and left our gate sitting wide open.
I pointed out to him where the bathrooms are located in the house, the septic tank and drain field are. He was only interested in calling into the office he works out of.
I called the location he works out of and was told that they could not come back out for well over a week, just to snake a line out. I have a feeling that he was or is not a licensed plumber, otherwise he should have been able to do the job. He looked to be either in his late teens or early 20'sat the oldest.
I am not a plumber, but I know how to snake a drain line, either thru the vent pipe going through the roof or via a clean out.
This is the first and the absolute last time that either I or our landlord would eveduaeMrRooter. There are too Manu other companies out there such as Metro Rooter, RotoRooter and others that do thus work and will tell you up front what aservicecall will run.
So do your homework in advance and check a company out. I checked theBBB and Chamber of Commerce web sites before writing this, and all four Mr Rooter franchises in the local area have a F- rating with them.

I had to wait to right this because I was so upset. First, my appointment was from 8:00-10:00 AM, they showed up after 7:00 PM. (YES, I took the day off of work for nothing?) The worker was dirty and left tar like substances all over my bathrooms (see picture). The worker replaced a valve in one toilet which now takes 1 minutes and 6 seconds to fill (1:06.84 according to my phone stopwatch) to fill. The flapper in another toiler was replaced, but the worker left the chain too long and it was getting caught under the flapper (see picture). The worker should have heard it, because HE left the toilet running. I had to tie up the chain. (It only takes 20.13 seconds to fill). He also repaired two sink popups. One he replaced, and he should have replaced the other too, because although he reattached it, it doesn't close (see picture). You have to push it in to close it all the way. They claim they gave me a $100 discount, which is what their TV commercial advertises. I also have a magnet that gets me a % off of services. It bologna, because I have since called another plumber, and people have told me I got ripped up with "my discount".

Had a plumber out to help with poor water flow in the kitchen sink, the plumber was unable to fix the issue, charged me $200, and then had the nerve to say I just needed a new faucet which would cost $429 to put in. There rates are outrageous and they just try to extort more money out of you without providing a service. I will never use this business again.

When I called for a refund, I spoke to Denise, and she said "Mr Rooter Plumbing does not stand by the work they do.", after I asked for a refund since the plumber was unable to do the job. They were unwilling to provide a refund or acceptable resolution, after multiple calls.

Just recently got scammed by my local Mr. Rooter and it makes me furious. Had a clogged main pipe in our basement that was causing our kitchen sink to not drain and leak into the basement and after doing a lot of snaking of the drain myself and not getting anywhere from the basement pipe, I thought that perhaps my equipment just wasn't up to the task. Called Mr. Rooter because I thought this would be a fairly quick, one time job. They didn't give me any rates or cost estimates, but said they would come check it out. They came tomorrow and all the guy brought was another snaker, the same heavy duty size as the one I had already used, and did that for about 20 minutes then called for back up for some reason! Two guys using 1 snake on one pipe...and since I don't know the rate, I bet they charged me double for having another plumber there. So, 45 minutes or so go by and he says that he can't fix the problem but demands I still pay for the "service" with a grand total of $273.00 with a $19.95 "travel" fee. Insane, but I didn't know any better and paid the man and then went down stairs to see that he did absolutely nothing at all. I called for them to return and complete the job I paid for, unclogging a pipe. They returned with a water jetter and charged, up front, another $347.00 before they would do any service at all. I trusted them to their guarantee that they could declog it so I paid and hoped to just be done with this plumbing issue. BUT NO, they used the water jetter for another 20 minutes or so, came back and said the water is not going down, perhaps you have a broken pipe. They went outside to call whoever "experts" at headquarters and came back 20 minutes later saying it would cost $4, 000.00 extra to dig up the pipe and repair it. I was shocked, their expressions were dead-serious and that was when I knew they were not to be trusted ever again. He offered to come back tomorrow with even more gear and cameras to testing out the theory (Even though he already told me the pipe was too small for a camera) and that would cost me more money too. I flat out refused and refused to sign the form saying I was satisfied with the completed job. He got angry at me and said I had to sign even if the job was not completed. He basically did nothing for $700.00 and a shoddy diagnosis of a broken pipe. Called the office to ask for a refund of some sort, maybe even just partial but no, they would not hear it and said I paid for the service I received. The manager even said he would put the $700.00 towards the $4, 000.00 bill if I wanted, yeah right...no way. I will have to take this matter to court since I paid with debit card and they will not refund at all. I also now have to pay another company $2, 500 to find and fix my pipe problem IF it is broken at all... Don't go with Mr. Rooter, they are a huge franchise that has no concerns about giving quality work or helping customers. The two plumbers that came seemed inexperienced and also left lots of water on the basement floor and a pile of sludge from the pipe, they didn't close the pipe and just left it there in both visits. I wish I had stopped at the first visit and gone with someone else. Their business practices seems very shady and manipulative and I was not guarded enough about them. Never again. Go somewhere else, look at reviews, get many estimates if possible. I'm down $700.00 and still have a clogged or even broken pipe. You can and will get better deals and better service else where, places like this and Roto Rooter should be shut down based on unethical business practices and protecting consumers. They use a Mr. Rooter App that adds up service costs but of course won't let you see the real costs until you get the emailed receipt. They won't even send me the 2nd receipt because I didn't sign their satisfaction form. That is not right at all. I would never ever ever recommend Mr. Rooter to anyone, I would actually warn them from ever using them if I ever heard their name mentioned again. Terrible terrible experience, and I'm wiser and poorer for it now. PLEASE AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. I read around and in Ohio the State Attorney actually filed a case against them from all the complaints they received, one being where they conned an elderly couple into racking up $20, 000.00 in service fees/charges after coming to fix a $147.00 problem and suddenly finding "more problems that needed attention".

It really sickens me that there are companies and businesses that run like this (especially since I was duped of course). I will be taking this to court and have filed my claim against them to refund my money for an incomplete job, bad service, and vague pricing rates. I don't know if $700.00 seems a lot to any of you, but with hospital bills for my mother and one of my kids, $700.00 is so precious, not to mention the $2, 500 I have to find to pay someone else to fix the plumbing so we have a working kitchen sink and no more water damage.

A contract is a contract is a contract. if they did not perform the work as per the contract, you have every right to cancel the check. First, you must give them a chance to come back and correct the issue to the contract. if they do, write them a new check because that is what you paid for. if not you may contract another contractor and subtract their cost from what their bill is and pay them the difference. i would tell them that you were going this prior. I am a project manager and that is the law. you will not lose the case in court due to the fact they breeched the contract.

Charged me $300 for 20 minutes then tried to say I was given a up front estimate which I was not. Beware this company will rip you off!

The technician used a tool that left large brown stains in my toilet bowl. He didn't alert me to this fact. I called the company they never sent him back or tried to correct the problem. The supervisior never contacted me about the stains in my toilet.

I am a plumber and compete with MR Rooter. Its funny how people think that just because a man completes a job quickly people think the prices should be low. Often I use tools that cost $3500 to $5000. When I show up in your driveway I am carrying up to $90K in tools and equipment. These tools make my work fast and affective but they ware out and your dollars pay for them. We aren't coming to your house to play with your human waist for fun. If you hire some guy to show up with a "snake" and unclog your drain ask yourself "did he fix my problem or just knock a hole in a clog?" and then ask "how would that guy know?"
Pricing is a funny thing. Some of my competitors make a living quoting $125 for a job and walking out with a check for $1250. Sometimes they are stealing from you sometimes they are doing you a favor.
