Mitchum ruined garment

I bought the mitchum sport clear gel anti-perspirant and deodorant for the first time. I thought I would try something different than my speed stick. I put it on one morning. it goes on wet and typically takes 5-8 minutes to dry. I didn't have 5-8 minutes as I was running behind for work, so I put my dress shirt on. the wet product went all over the left chest and armpit of my shirt. needless to see I had to change my shirt before going to work.

I brought the shirt into my dry cleaner, just got it back. the dry cleaner couldn't get the product out. this is a $200 hugo boss shirt. it is essentially ruined. i'd like to write to mitchum and complain.

Mitchum bleaching

To Whom it May Concern:

Today I used your lovely Mitchum gel deodorant, only to discover it left bleach marks all over my shirt, it’s ruined. I find it very unethical that your company does not even list this as a possibility on the back of your product. What’s even more ironic is that it says “Leaves no trace on clothes.” I can’t imagine how embarrassing it must be when this happens to one of your consumers when they are out in public, or even worse, on a date. Couldn’t somebody sue you for emotional distress because in the middle of a date they developed massive bleach stains under their armpits? Furthermore, your delighted customer is out of money for their brand new shirt your product just ruined! What disgusts me on top of this is how many complaints about this product you can find online. Your company knows this is an issue, but is chooses to ignore it. I used to be a life long customer of your Mitchum and Revlon products, but not anymore. Don’t be surprised when somebody gets pissed off enough to put this on youtube.

Sincerely,

Miss never buying from you again

OMG. My husband has been blaming my laundry skills! Ruined one of his blue shirts. Bought and one and OMG. Same issue. Bleach spots. Googled Mitchum "issues" and discovered this page! Why?! Trying the vinegar solution fingers crossed it will work. If not these two shirts are garbage. Urg!

So bloody mad today I have just put on a fairly new jumper only to find out the under arms have been bleached I think Mitchum should pay for a new jumper I’m so disappointed spend hundreds of $’s on nice clothing for it to be ruined by MITCHUM DEODORANT what does it do to our bodies?

I have had the same problem 4 blue work shirts that have bleached to white using mitchum.
As I suffer from hyperhidrosis I am already self conscious enough without drawing further attention to myself!

it is true. the vinegar works... i poured some directly on the stains and added a cup to the wash basin. it is an expensive linen shirt no machine washing would i do..but why should i have to ? why is this product sold ?who would buy it if they knew ? why should we have to go through the embarrassment ? i can only reiterate my earlier post, screw you, mitchum, screw you. but thanks to the reader who submitted the vinegar solution! saved my 99 dollar shirt. i took the mitchum back to riteaid. they know of the problem. i wonder why they sell it. oh. yeah.whatever the market will bear...

You are all hilarious.

Clear gel deodorant is high in alcohol content.

All clear gel deodorants do this... Unless you just started using deodorant, I don't understand how you all don't know this...

Hm, let's see... it's not in the ingredients (unless it's undercover as one of the 26 letter long ingredients) so that could be why.

You didn't magically know it had high alcohol content either until someone told you or you looked it up so stuff it.

Hi
I have used Mitchum triple odour Defence Powder fresh Spray for a good while but have noticed recently that the spray mechanism does not work very well at all. I have great difficulty pressing the spray to get it to work. My husband also has the same problem. Just thought we would let you know in case you have changed supplier

I've used Mitchum's women's antiperspirant for 4 decades. But over the last few years (since the older formula was replaced), I find I lose great big chunks --sometime more than 1/2 of each stick-- that snap off as I'm applying it (even though I barely extend the stick past the opening of the container to apply it). After all this time, why has there been no solution, or at least some sort of temporary fix, i.e. a replacement or refund offer?

I end up having to buy twice the number of Mitchum sticks as I should need, so my product loyalty costs me almost double the marked price. I can't afford to waste money or loyalty. Regretfully I'm trying other brands for a replacement.

Mitchum rash

To whom it may concern,

I usually use mitchum once the wheather starts to warm up. So as usual I bought it a few weeks ago the new smart solid papaya scent and started breaking out in a rash under my arm. I switched to a different scent thinking it was the papaya. It wasn't the scent at all it was the product itself I now have a full body rash from my neck down to my ankles. I had to get steriod shots. Steriods to take at home, antihistamines, antifungal/hydrocortizone cream, Yeast infection medication all from the doctor not to mention all the money I spent on itching creams and benadryl. I am a Massage Therapist and had to turn work away because I know have to worry (according to my doctor) about getting a super infection due to the fact that my immune system is now suppressed because I am one big open wound. I want to know who I can contact regarding this or I will be having a lawyer contact the company.

I'm in pain and very pissed off. I will never by this product again.

Mitchum crumbles immediately!

I recently purchased 2 new mitchum smart solid deodorants - one for men and one for women. Both crumbled into pieces after one week of use! These were brand new stock from my local chain pharmacy! I am very disappointed as these deodorants are more expensive than my usual speedstick.

Hi. I wrote Revlon after my second Mitchum Deodorant stick crumbled. They had the audacity to ask for the receipts and for me to mail them both deodorants - for testing! I decided it was easier to never buy the product again.

Same comment from me. New product breaks off and becomes unusable. The rollon is becoming harder to find, and is expensive.

I have used Mitchum roll on for over 20 years. This new formulary is awful. It not only allows you to perspire but it also allows perspiration to smell. I won't purchase any more of this product as it does not do what it says. I hope they bring back the old product!

I hate that Mitchum decided to change their product line. I used the scented cream for years and years then was forced to switch to the roll on. Not happy with the changes. This new stuff damages my clothes and the very cheaply made container leaks.

The smart solid 2.5 oz breaks off half way down and falls to the floor. I have four of these to mash together to apply by hand. It's stupid but I cannot figure what else to do. Any suggestions out there? Seems the problem falls on deaf ears also. Dave.

Been using Mitchum for years. It's a good product but the solid in the adjustable 2.5 oz. applicator sucks. The deoderant breaks off half way down and you have to look around the floor to find it. Got about four of these to mash together and apply by bare hand then wash my hands. This is very stupid but it's all I can figure out with all the unused halves of solid deoderant. Any other ideas out there besides never using the product again? Seems these complaints fall on deaf ears. Dave.

I too have experienced the same problem as of 1/12 - You would think they would have emails for customer service more readily available to consumers- I too can't believe the overwheming number of consumers who have been experiencing this problem AND it seems they have discontinued selling the gel or roll on & only sell the solid - It is highway robbery to pay these prices & only be able to use 10 to 20% of the product.

I am a 60 yrs of age female who had experienced a LOT of difficulties w/ finding a deodorant that would help allevi8 my issues w/ underarm "sweating, wetness & odor."[I experienced "nervous" perspiration] :-( It was so much of an issue 4 me--I was unable 2 wear certain materials[i.e. silk] or darker colors.[dyes didn't mix well w/ my body odor] Soooo.. I tried "MANY" Anti-Perspirants & Deodorants. Then approx 7 yrs ago, I tried Mitchum's Smart Solid. Wah la! Finally found a solution 4 my issues. :-) Greenwood scent[marketed 4 men] wrks best 4 me. Yes, this product co$ts more than other Anti-Perspirants-Deodorants. However..my comfort level, lack of white stuff getting on my clothes & the ability 2 wear whatever I like--is worth spending the extra $.[IMO] Now 2 the "issues">I 2 have experienced problems w/ that "sticky" feeling & the stick breaking off when only part of it has been used. %-( 4 THE "ICKY-STICKY" PROBLEM>-I run a little water over the stick b4 applying.[water temp doesn't matter] 4 THE BREAKING OFF 2 SOON PROBLEM>I've used this product 4 "MANY" yrs. Soooo...I learned rolling up small portions; then applying "gently" 2 underarms wrks best. After the stick breaks--I "collect" most of the broken pieces & dig out the other portions. I put them in a cup; add a "little bit" of water[again temp doesn't matter] & mash the pieces 2gether w/ something flat. Then when I'm ready 2 use it--I apply the Anti-Perspirant-Deodorant 2 my underarms w/ my fingers. Of course I have 2 wash my hands "thoroughly w/ soap" afterwards. But @ least w/ this method, I've gotten more usage out of this product. Revlon or Mitchum NEEDS 2 solve the "breaking off 2 soon" problem. I have a "suggestion" 4 them. But..they cannot have it 4 free! I wish their site was more "consumer-friendly." So we[consumers] could submit our Questions or Comments 2 them via e-mail. BTW..Tele # on the back of 1 of the "original" Smart Solid Anti-Perspirant-Deodorant bottles is: 1(888)8-MITCHUM[6482486]; HRS: M-F>8A-6P[EST] BTW.. I dialed that #. Got a recording that said: Thanks 4 calling Mitchum's Consumer Information Ctr. So, it's still a wrking #. I also Googled Revlon. Their # is: [protected]; HRS: M-F>7A-6P[EST]; FAX:
[protected]. Revlon's site also offers the ability 2 submit an e-mail mssg or Chat Now. NOTE: All of us[frustr8ed users of Mitchum's Smart Solid Anti-Perspirant-Deodorant] should contact the offices of Mitchum &/or Revlon "by any means necessary" so we can have our complaints heard. Hopefully they will get addressed soon! :-|

The so called 'Mitchum' that's available now for consumers is NOT the same Mitchum it once was. I fail to understand why litteraly every producer of consumer goods feel the need for the " NEW and IMPROVED" aproach... When the good old "TRIED AND TRUE" works just FINE. This 'New and Improved' stuff crumbles', falls apart, and falls to the floor. It doesnt even come close to the effectiveness of the good old Mitchum I used faithfuly for YEARS." IT WORKED!" Mitchum has lost this loyal customer because of the new and improved formula, simply it DOESNT WORK. I would gladly return to 'Tried and True' that made the name a great one... Dissappointed ... in central muggy USA, sweaty pitts n all

I totally agree with the breaking thing. It is not right. I thought the first time I did it, but the next time it was totally the product it cracks right under the middle of it. I was really upset. I love this product, but I can not put up with losing it all the time because of it breaking off. Plus you can not stick it back in there and keep using it.
I am upset about this and wanted to call them and tell them. I threw away the sticks though. :( Did they still help you out? Or if I have the receipt will that work?

I agree with all of you, the "smart solid" is not so smart, it crumbles, breaks off, after using, maybe half. The old solid worked great for me. The gel is horrible, takes forever to dry and does not seem as effective. And, really, what's with manufacturers thinking deodorants need to be scented? Something to conflict with the cologne one wears? I can't use scented deodorant! I've called the company before about the crumbling...and can't find the unscented now!

Oh boy! Wish I had checked out these comments before I bought the Mitchum SmartSolid Clinical Performance unscented deodorants! First one crumbled, took it back and thast when I bought 2 more cause they were on sale! They have all crumbled! I loved the old Mitchum unscented solids. Why discontinue a good thing for this crap! I bought two of the Mitchum SmartSolid Clinical Performance unscented deodorant. I don't like scented deodorant and I can't often find unscented women's deodorant. I like the gel but found it leaked (mostly inside the cap, thank goodness) when I traveled. I will never buy Mitchum smartsolid again. I will go back to the gel and hope for the best. I just spoke to Mitchum and discovered the following: Firstly, the old product is still available at Wegmans and CVS if you are in the Buffalo, NY area. The NEW product is called MITCHUM ADVANCED CONTROL INVISIBLE SOLID. THE OLD PRODUCT IS CALLED MITCHUM SMARTSOLID CLINICAL PERFORMANCE. The active ingredient in BOTH is 20% Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex. THE DIFFERENCE? The old product was water-based and the new product is WAX BASED (Yuk!). Frankly I rarely had trouble with crumbling but in a water based product I can see how it might happen if not transported and/or stored properly at low temperatures. The water freezes, producing hairline cracks in the stick! Or it gets stored in a hot warehouse and the water content dries. Not so with the wax. The old product is no longer available in Canada... only at CVS and Wegman's in the Buffalo area... and other stores across the USA. It is, they say, NOT discontinued. Beware of old product that will have the water content diminished and/or product that has been stored or transported improperly. I would definitely avoid any retailer or online marketer that might mishandle the product as well... don't know why this issue has "just" arisen. I have had it happen a few times but that's over a 25+ year period. And frankly, it works so well that I would gladly put up with the issue. The old product never stained my clothes and washed out perfectly. The new product wants lots of hot water and soap to be removed during the wash - probably due to the wax base? Anyway, that's the story as I have it at this time. We are 1.5 hours from Buffalo, NY and living in Canada so the next trip to Buffalo will have an entire case of the stuff set aside for us maybe... at least a dozen sticks to bring home anyway.

Why are you people using the solid. The power gel is the best especially if you can pick up the old formula. Mitchum now has a so-called advance formula. I called Mitchum and asked them why on earth they would change their old formula because it was 100% effective. They assured me that the ingredients are the same. I have Mitchum for decades but never tried the solid. The gel does not stain clothing. Just put it on before bed...in time, you will find that you don't even need deodoranrt for awhile - that is how effective this product is.

I can beat the 30-plus years of use of Mitchum mentioned here. My grandmother showed me the roll-on or dab-on liquid version in the 1960s, and I started using it then. When that version was discontinued after many years, I moved on to the next version, and so on. I liked the gel (unscented) for many years until recently. (My sensitive skin just can't handle the scented varieties.) I never had any problem with effectiveness or staining until the last several months or more. Before, I could skip a day without any problem, just as my grandmother had told me. Now that's not possible; sometimes it doesn't even last all of one day. But a bigger problem to me is the staining! I am going through Spray-n-Wash like there's no tomorrow! Between Mitchum and any sunscreen, the stains are a big problem. Today I had to wash a shirt that had been "lost" for a long time. The sunscreen stains were still there, but the underarm stains were not -- just like old times. I was assuming there had been a formula change, but that proved it to me. I am now looking for an alternative. Some company would be very smart to buy the old formula and start selling it! I will keep a watch on this site in case anyone does find something like that.

Mitchum expensive and supposedly solid... but exceptionally crumbly flakey deodorant

Just before I go on... I play netball regularly to a high standard so deodorants are more important to me than most...

After a high recommendation by a reliable friend to use this Mitchum deodorant, I rushed to the shops to buy this experience 'Proven 48 hour protection' and more importantly 'no white marks'..

This may well be the case, but unfortunately I was only able to encounter this experience a few times before the deodorant began to crumble and then break off! I persevered and stuck it back on but it was no use. Every morning I found myself chasing chunks of this hydro 'solid' around my bedroom!

I am upset about this but was assured that this must just be unfortunate and to try another!... Oh my, just the exact same problem! I have now wasted nearly £10 on two deodorants that just dont work... not due to the formula but due to the hydro 'unsolid' that it is made from.

Don't waste your money on this product..

Mitchum bleached marks on my shirt

Mitchum sensitive skin for women

To whom it may concern:

I put my deodorant on like normal today (mitchum sensitive skin: upc [protected] 3), and after wearing the shirt for an hour I noticed a mark on my shirt under my armpits. when I looked I noticed that everywhere my deodorant was I had a bleached marks on my shirt. this was a brand new shirt only worn twice before this, and it cost $29.95. so it was not cheap and I did not get that much wear out of the shirt..

Please contact me via email

Thanks:

MY ARMPITS ARE ON FIYYYYYYA🔥🔥🔥. I have been using Mitchum's for 5years and it's safe to assume they stop selling the original solid. Now all I can find is this SmartGel, that does NOT work as well as the original. I am sure they must have changed the formula and NOW I have chemical burns under both armpits... I can't sleep right now because of the pain...I am definitely going to make a formal complaint and maybe contact a Lawyer! 😢😡

After discarding /several/ brands of ineffective deoderants over the years, I discovered Mitchum Clear Gel (my father's used it for as long as I can remember which is probably why it took so long to discover).

It's served me very well over the years with occassional bad batch popping up once every blue moon. However, this morning, after removing a new shirt (worn/washed once), I noticed the armpit areas seemed as if they'd been bleached. A few days prior to that I noticed a rice grain-sized bleached area on the front pocket, and even though I hadn't been around bleach at all, it didn't bother me too much. Sure, it irked me a little bit, but what could I do?

The deoderant I was wearing was the Power Gel, purchased two weeks ago. Also worth mentioning -- the shirt is an inexpensive one. Shouldn't matter, and I read about another guy with the same problem who claimed the Power Gel bleached his expensive as well as his cheap shirts.

What /really/ sucks is that Mitchum's the only stuff that does the job for me (until I begin the hunt again...)

Anywho, if anyone finds/comes up with a solution I'd be glad to hear it!

I too switched to mitchum gel in 2009. i didnt realize that it bleached out no less than 6 button downs and a bunch of red and black tee shirts. I wasn't smart enough to put two and two together that it was mitchum. I am out a few hundred dollars in shirt replacements.

I have same problem with bleaching...I put on a brand-new really nice t-shirt this morning, and one hour later after sitting in a/c house, not sweating at all, I have all kinds of bleach marks in the arm pits.

Mitchum is officially off my list of deodorants. I wish they would pay for ruined clothes.

Really loved Mitchum Smart Solid the first couple or times I used it and then I too had the problem of it just crumbleing away. What's up? Any chance this problem might get fixed. I made the mistake of buying several of them at one time and now am stuck with abunch of crumbs! How do you contact the company or is this it?

This might help if you're having problems with the new Mitchum Power Gel: I just bought a new bottle of the Mitchum Power Gel Shower Fresh for women and noticed a change of their active ingredient. The older formula Clear Gel used to contain ALUMINUM ZIRCONIUM TETRACHLOROHYDREX GLY 20 %. The new bottle of Power Gel contains ALUMINUM SESQUICHLOROHYDRTE 25 %. I also bought a bottle of Degree Clinical Proection Trisolid antiperspirant/ deodorant which has the exact same ingredient as the old Mitchum Clear Gel. So if that ingredient has worked in past for you, maybe give that a try. I think that's what I'm going to do for now since I've read so much about shirts and blouses getting destroyed by the new Mitchum. I can't afford to replace all my shirts! Although I"ll probably keep looking for it in a gel formula since I like that much better . Darn, why did they have to go and change a good thing?

RUINED LOTS OF CLOTHES AND MY BED SHEETS. IT TOOK A LONG TIME UNTIL I FIGURED OUT WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. VERY DISAPPOINTED. WHY WOULDNT THEY AT LEAST GIVE A WARNING...I GUESS WHY WOULD PEOPLE USE IT IF IT RUINED EVERYTHING YOU WORE. THEY SHOULD RECALL AND GIVE COMPENSATION FOR RUINED MATERIAL!

I also am having problems with Mitchum Smart Solid. It burned my underarms so bad, that they were red and extremely painful. It took over a week for them to heal. I cannot find Mitchum regular solid deodorant anywhere now. It's all been replaced by the SmartSolid. That is NOT smart!

I also am having issues with Mitchum Smart Solid. I have used regular stick unscented for years with no issues, then I got the Smart Solid and it rubbed my underarms so bad that dead skin attached itself in the crease of my underarm causing a lot of pain. Since then I peeled off the dead skin and ceased to use any product. Now the glands in my armpit are super sensitive, rashy, and inflamed. It hurts like heck. I might have to go to the doctor if it doesn't heal soon. Steroids might be in my future as well. Ugh.

Mitchum ruined my silk blouses!

Mitchum deorodant has ruined 3 ralph lauren silk blouses. it leaves bright yellow stains and eats through the fabric.

I bought a 3-pack at costco and will return it for a refund. (if only mitchum would reimburse me for the ruined clothing.)

I took the items to the dry cleaner who said that they could do nothing. then a woman waiting in line said that the same thing had happened to her. she had to through the clothes away.

Mitchum horrible products!

They took the place of the powder fresh ~ bad move! the cool dry (like sandpaper) and gel (makes you wet for hours) are horrible products and the powder fresh (when you could find it) was fabulous! I would buy a case of the powder fresh if I could find it... the other stuff is garbage! I have been a loyal customer for more than 15 years...

Beware!

Sincerely,
Pamela.

Am really unhappy that I have purchased the mitchum soap stick deodorant for my family and have found that in all of these that the last 1inch can not be used so disappointed the product is not cheap and was really looking forward to using your product as it is very good against antiperspirant but to have so much waste is terrible.

I’ve used 2 of the Mitchum deodorant sticks now and when I get to the bottom it doesn’t roll up anymore so there is always a bit at the bottom left. Seems a waste! Any ideas how to make use of the bit at the bottom? Thought the first one possibly just had a fault

The button to press is very stiff and does not work properly. Sometimes two fingers need to be used to get it to work

I bought this deodorant due to its 24hr protection. While the smell is great it claims the bamboo powder is meant to absorb wetness which it does not. Don't waste your money if you're needing something more absorbing.

I bought mitchum gel sticks 2 for males and 2 for females. Unfortunately my son unwrapped the sticks and to my amazement the sticks are filled half, honestly it is a reap off for customers considering the price of the product. I feel robbed honestly

My son doesn’t use any other deodorant only Mitchum as this is the only make that works for him! Was appalled at the amount that came out of the package unused! This is getting very expensive to use now, and to see this much waste, is our money down the drain! Please sort out your product making! 17g wasted!
