Midas review: Charged us $3744.98 for removing engine, but car was taken to another shop for second opinion, and engine had never been removed.

We took the car into Midas because it was making a noise under the hood on July 30, 2026, around 11:00 am. After paying a $220 estimate fee, were notified a few hours later by phone that the car needed a new engine for around $8000 because of a cracked block, then called again an hour later stating that the car also needed a new catalytic converter for another $4500. Midas wanted over $12,000 to fix the car! I had them stop working on the car and had it towed to another shop for a second opinion. Midas charged us a total of $3744.98 for the work already done, and they said, in writing, that they had removed the engine, but at the other auto shop, we saw that the engine was obviously still installed and had never been removed (pictures as proof). A few of the ancillary parts had been removed and stored in the back of the car. There was absolutely nothing written on the Estimate about the cracked block or the catalytic converter. In fact, the second page of the Estimate was missing.
