Scam!
Went to the presentation, got our “FREE” gifts - not so free. We got a voucher for $100 dinning with a code on it to register and get the gift cards. The code had already been used by another email! They make copies of the same code and hand it out.
Our “FREE” plane tickets are not FREE - when you register you have to give a credit card and they charge you $200 per ticket for “taxes and fees”.
The package they are selling is more or less a time share type product. How do you jump from $13,999 to $5,000 in a matter of 2 minutes when you tell them you will not do anything without talking to your financial advisor. Dont let these people fool you!
Recommendation: Stay clear

Cost to Join a travel company that does not save you money
Less than a week ago I sat through an hour and a half presentation about how Merritt could save me money on travel. They showed thousands in savings on each trip and said no blackout dates but that as a member you would get all of these deals. I wanted to see the specifics, but they would not give me the access to their website until 2 days later. Once I...

I am so sorry I bought from this travel company. We received a email about a birthday cruise for $329. When I called them about the cruise they had no idea what I was talking about. They offered us a cruise for $309 for a 3day cruise. We found the same cruise for $209. What a ripoff!
We were told that price would include taxes and fees. Now they say the price does not include taxes and fees.
I want my money back!

Total scam! We spent almost 2 hours listening to a canned presentation about travel thru their membership which would save us hundreds of dollars or more. We were promised $100.00 in restaurants gift cards and 2 round trip airfare vouchers with 2 nights hotel. Well... You have to pay a processing fee for the gifts cards and the travel voucher. You cannot see where these can be redeemed until you pay the fee. Well... I already wasted a evening with these scam artists and I am not going to pay processing fees for something I was promised to receive if I attended their presentation. Don't waste your time! This is just another scam to get money out of you.
Claimed loss: time and promise of gifts NOT delivered

Shame on me / truly knew it was too good to be true but wasted my 90 minutes anyway. They send the fancy letter guaranteeing you won a prize and a $100 gift card to a local restaurant. Not! Jump thru hoops and ridiculous fees to obtain "free" cruise and the gift card is worthless. Their sale team members were rude upon realizing we had no interest in making a decision without further review on our part about the company as it was impossible to learn anything about them beforehand. Thank goodness it was only our time wasted not our hard earn money!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
The marketing group for Merritt World vacations is simply deceiving people.
The marketing people are very deceiving. I got suckered in even though I said I would not sign unless I could go on their web site. Of course it was not granted and the properties they subsequently showed me were old and I could book the at the same price myself. So I cancelled and here is the biggest mess, they hold your money for the full 45 days. They are permitted to do this by Virginia law. What a mess. Stay away from this hoax and save yourself money and frustration.
Envelope looks like it's from IRS and letter clearly indicates people won significant prize. Merritt not even mentioned except for fine print. No name is listed under scribble that supposedly belongs to General Manager. Pathetic that companies utilize deceptive marketers like this and then try to blame it on them. I would never trust Merritt.
I also noticed in the fine print of the letter I received the following "In the event of print/mechanical errors or duplicate winning numbers distributed in error, the number match contest is void and no prizes will be awarded." The numbers matched on my letter and when I called the person said I was one of the grand prize winners (of which there are 4 total prizes), but that there are typically 10+ grand prize winners who call each day. This verifies that they have intentionally sent duplicate numbers and voiding the contest from the start.

We received the same discount packages referred to (first in room and military) and that is where the happiness ended. Our first attempt to book a very simple hotel vacation resulted in several quotes with incorrect information, very little savings in an ok hotel and zero savings in the other provided quotes. As of this writing, it is still unresolved and has been promised by tomorrow. We also have inquired about a trip to Nashville in November, the remains to be seen.
As far as transparency...after voicing concerns and a deeper conversation with a manager we were informed that in the case of a cruise for example, we would be required to pay the full price upfront and upon return from the trip we would receive a "check" for any discount they could manage. At no time was the mentioned in the "presentation", nor is it anywhere within the contract. Had I known this, we would have never joined.
What I am finding so far is something, I wish we had never joined, incompetence at the reservation level and the "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't".
Finally, my wife was attempting to check reviews etc. during the presentation and was chastised by the presenter citing, "please put out phone away and give me your attention". Should hav been the first warning sign...
Mary,
My experience was the complete opposite of yours, and I think it's important to share that perspective. The presentation was transparent about the responsibilities involved, and I fully understood and accepted them before moving forward.
I actually found the presentation to be very compelling. I did my own research while I was there, and yours was the only negative comment I could find. In fact, I came across several positive reviews.
Regarding the dinner code, it's unfortunate that someone else used it before you. However, I'm sure if you had brought it to the attention of the Marriott Vacation staff, they would have rectified the situation.
In the end, I decided to become a member and received a $2,000 discount for being the first in the room to commit, plus another $2,000 for my wife's and my military service. We are now very happy vacationers, and I'm glad I didn't let your experience deter me.
