Mercantile Adjustment Bureau False statements

I owe a debt to Capital One from 2008. I attempted to settle with them but they refused to settle the $800 debt for less than $1400. In 2011 I began getting calls from MAB saying they represented Capital One and that they were about to take me to court unless I could pay over $800 now. I haven't worked since June 2009 and have no income. I have gotten many, many threatening phone calls from them. They refuse to send me anything in writing unless it's via email. They also told me they can take my child support payments for this debt. That is false. I pulled my credit report and it turns out that Capital One has written off my debt and sold it to MAB. They are NOT representing Capital One. Today I called and told her I had $800 and wanted to see if they would settle for that. I got this from the tax witholding from my ex for child support. She told me to wait on the line while she emailed Capital One to see if they would accept it. Then she told me that they said they'd settle for $837 but I had to send it in now through my checking account, debt card, or western union. She refused still to send me anything in writing other than an email. Now I was an accounting clerk for about 10 years and have done my share of collections. I know for a fact that they CAN send me something in writing. I believe they are doing this so that it's not a legitimate settlement. I will be calling Capital One tomorrow when I have access to my credit report and attempting to settle with them. I will not settle with MAB regardless of the amount.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Fraud/ Invasion of privacy

Mercantile Adjustment called my home at 7:04pm on Saturday May 14 and left a collections voice message. They have invaded my privacy illegally by calling a phone number that they dug up somewhere. I have never had a bill go into collections and and have never been late with a payment in over 40 years. I have had no connection with Mercantile in the past and do not want their whiny phone messages. I do not have any bill in collections.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau mercantile adjustment bureau

I have been receiving calls on my CELL PHONE for days and days from an "877" number that I did not recognize. They were leaving automated messages that "Megan" (whom I am not)should return the call regarding an urgent matter. I finally returned the call to an EXTREMELY RUDE man-boy named "Brian" and told him to removed my number of well over 3 years. YES, I have had this cell phone number for 3 1/2 years and they are now calling to ask for someone that hasn't had this numer in her name for well over 3 YEARS! Sounds extremely SHADY to me to say the least! The rude little man-boy hung up on me...clearly displaying that not only did he not have any professionalism but that he possessed NO telephone etiquette AND YET HE WORKS AS A TELEMARKETER FOR A "COLLECTIONS" COMPANY. IF I WERE HE BOSS, I'D HAVE FIRED HIM ON THE SPOT! I would strongly advise to BEWARE of such companies CLAIMING to be debt collectors. A legitimate debt collection company will be more than polite and happy to work out terms for payment because that's how they make money! I am reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau and researching how to have Mercantile Adjustment Bureau reviewed! BEWARE! Furthermore, I called back to hear yet another EXTREMELY SHADY CHARACTER on the other end of the phone. I asked for the company's mailing address and he refused to give it to me and again I was hung up on. PLEASE realize the immaturity of a company like MERCANTILE ADJUSTMENT and seek professional advice from the Lawyer Referral Service in your area. Also, these companies should be reported to the Better Business Bureau if you feel the need. (Even though the BBB is also being scrutinized)

A lady from Mercantile Adjustment Bureau continues to harass me about a debt that I have already made arrangements with Portfolio Recovery agency who has had my account from 2008. These people are trying to bully me into giving them my personal bank and credit card information. It is a scam and do not be bullied into this. Two agencies cannot hold the same account at the same time. They refused to give me their mailing address which is against the law. Watch out for these people.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau collection of charged of debt from 2005

A lady called my job and a co-worker fwded the call to me, did not give her name, stating that she wanted me to pay 5100.00 on Citibank credit cards that were charged off in 2005. She said I have to pay even though they are charged off and said "Well, we have your company information and will garnish your wages". I told her this was the first I heard of it and she said they had been trying to call for awhile. I told her last time I had CCs was back in college 15 years ago from that co. and like she stated was charged of in '05. She was rude and persistent. I finally hung up on her because threatening my job and stating that I have to pay. I understand that she is doing her job but her approach, threatening and being rude will not accomplish anything. Thanks for everyone who have posted about this co. Their tactics are over the top!

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Misrepresentation On Internet Job Postings

This information is for anyone in the Tampa area looking for collections work.

Quick Facts:

Extremely unprofessional
Same work environment as a High School
Low pay
Unattainable bonus goals
Poor equipment
Incompetent management
Worthless insurance
%99.8 turnover

Need more information? Read on.

This company is complete and utter horse ###. They lie strait to your face about the type of work they do and keep on lying when you start working there.

You will see job listings all over the internet stating they are looking for third party collections agents or people with collections experience. The contact will be /name removed/ with either her phone number /phone number removed/ or her email. She will bring you in for a interview, tell you she needs to interview other people, call you a few days later offering you the position, then call you back and tell you there is a problem with the scheduling of the training class and offer you a lesser position. In this job market who wouldn’t accept the other one? I made my intentions very clear and told her I would only accept the job if I would be moved over to third party when a position opens up. She agreed.

Three months later and four new hires in third party and I am still working in that low rent first party. I would ask her on a weekly basis when they would be hiring for third party and she would lie right to my face "oh were not bring in anyone in third party any time soon.."
Really?

They list the job as collections. But it’s as far from collections as you can get. I don't know about anyone else, but I have never worked for a collection agency or bank that had a QA list with 18 things on it that had to be verified on every call (even if you talk to debtor again the same day), makes a TL plug into every call, had the supervisor monitoring the call, and has a QA guy in the back scoring the call. You? Thought not. Sounds like customer service.. And low and behold you log into your system and look at your job title and it reads "Customer Service agent."

God help you if you do not hit everything on the QA sheet. And God help you if you deviate from the unwritten script. And dont even think about getting creative. Skip Tracing? HA! They would rather have you call a number that never picks up then look for another one. With practices like that no wonder M&I has posted a loss for the last two (going on three) years.

And FDCPA violations.. You will be doing at least one a day due to incompetence. Either incompetence in management or other coworkers. Management will have you call the same accounts 20 times a day while your coworkers will leave a message but not notate it on every account. Along with that they will change their company policies and tell you about a week later.

Look, this is not a rant. This is to give you a heads up on what you will be in for if you accept a job at this company. I know the job market is tough right now but if you are wanting a job in collections, this is not the place for you.

In 8thgrade lingo as I wright I can even get this right! Lets jump you four grades so you can learn "your" is like something that you own. Something you did. It is associated with ownership. The word YOU are looking to abbreviate is "you're." Just remember the AR is short for ARE) just naturally retarted or all that ### you be taking is ###ing with your head because i(Capitalize) know you must be on something, at least something close to meth. AL (When you end a statement you typically use your own name. Not the noun you were referring to or the aliases you are using)

So, anyone dealing with this company do not even pick up your phone. This is the kind of ###ic banter you will have to deal with. Not one person at this company is worth talking to because it will not benefit you in any way. I have already established the only people that will work there are degenerates with a 4th grade education. So they are not out for your best interest. You'd be better off not talking to anyone from this company. If they call you more than once an hour you should call an attorney and at least get them on harassment charges.

It is amusing when people have no clue on anything in life.
Thanks for hammering in my point(s). No one there has the faintest clue what is going on at Mercantile, what their job is, what is going on with their coworkers, or any competence what so ever. So sorry to make you feel weird. I was just upholding the Golden Rule.. I needed work so I kept quiet. And I will here as well. One does not have to be deceitful, BADGERING, or even threatening to be a good collector. Or in your case (First Party) incompetent.

You can want to F-me all the way to the bank when I go cash my $4, 500 checks from the reputable company I now work for. Or join me at the Doctors office when I use my PPO Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. Not to degrade your company but we seem to be doing well based on what I already stated. Not to mention we have an A with the BBB and not one of us has a FDCPA complaint or lawsuit against any of us.

When you can do the same get back to me. No, I take that back. You are too ignorant and Lemming like. Just fallow that little pay check little one.. Fallow it until you run off the side of the cliff.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau - Harrasment, Jerks

This company calls me about a credit card that I had in 2005! It was charged off in 2008 and I haven't heard a word until now! I called to see what it was about since I didn't recognize the original creditor. The guy I talked to assumed I get "rental assistance" (and was rude about it) simply because I get State Disability assistance right now until my RSDI...

First thing first.

Take a deep breathe. Understand there is no debtor jail and regardless of any intimidation tactics being used, until there is a court awarded judgemnt, no action can be taken against you or your property. Yes they can continue to make collections phone calls, but there is a way to stop that as well. And as you know, IF there is an actual debt still owed, then let's face it, in some way, someone received benefit as a result of the debt.

Under the FDCPA as a third party collection agency, a validation of debt has to be provided to you that details how the amount being asked for was determine. Until you receive such information in a detailed form, you should not pay any amount of money. There is such a thing as Statute of Limitation that basically starts ticking from the date of last payment (DLP).

Once you receive the information, then on to the next step of how to deal with it.

Would be curious as to what your attorney tells you and at what price to him.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau fraudulent collection attempts in NM

I got a strange call on my cell about a collection attempt against a business I used solely for debit card tracking purposes. I called them, concerned, because I had never had any loans, credit cards or anything on this account other than a debit card and cash account. They claimed Bank of America had turned this collection over to them. I replied that was ridiculous because I had closed that account a couple of months earlier, and BofA gave me back all the money that was in the account, and never mentioned I had an overdraft. They asked for a debit card number so they could pay the bill in full, since it was hurting my credit. I also had never gotten any letters about this so-called debt. I happened to be in my post office and found a badly addressed letter from them that the PO was going to return to sender. It stank of a fraud, so I took the letter into the bank, and they informed me it was a total scam. Nothing had ever occurred in my debit account to generate any collection action. These people are outrageous liars, and are predatory.

They knew I was an attorney, and probably figured I'd just pay the $348 rather than hurt my credit. Wrong! I'm reporting them to the NM Attorney General's office.

Don't let them bully you! You have the right to demand proof of any debt claimed that you owe, BEFORE PAYING IT. These guys were so insistent that I pay it right away, before any proof. When I asked for proof, the woman, Lisa, got extremely huffy.

Be warned.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Harrassing phone calls to in-laws

I received phone calls and when I could call the lady Michelle back, I got her voice mail I requested something in writing if I owed the debt and I would compare as I keep copies of everything, left my address and phone #, then apparently they called my sister-in-law and told them they were trying to get in touch with me regarding a debt and I was not returning their phone calls which was untrue as I was and they should not have even called my sister-in-law regarding my debt, my sister-in-law filed a complaint and suggested I do the same because I called the number again and left another message yet again, and then I called Saturday and got a hold of this Michelle lady, who was telling me they were going to serve me, and garnish my wages, I told her what I could pay and she stated that was not acceptable and I had to do this and give them my checking account information over the phone that day otherwise the police would be showing up at my door and they would get my employer involved I told her if they did that I would lose my job and then they would never get paid, she said well that would be my problem if I got fired over this, I have 2 small children and she did not care, she told me to have a yard sale and sale things to get the money, I have nothing to sell except the clothes that me and my children have, because she threatened me with my job, I gave her my routing number & checking account # and from July until December they are going to take money out of my checking account and she warned I had better not let any of the checks bounce, didn't matter that I have other bills and told her I could do $20 a month she said it was not acceptable, the others were lawyers and they were going to garnish my wages and cost me my job to make me pay what they decide I must pay not what I can reasonably afford, this is the only company I have dealt with that is not willing to work with me on a payment plan that I can affordably do every month and take care of my children & myself, plus calling my in-laws as I know they can not do this and harrass them for a debt that I owe, apparently the original debtor was a HBSC Credit card with a balance she said of $1900.00. This company should not be allowed to harrass people who have nothing to do with a debt someone else owes and they should not be allowed to threaten people with getting them fired from their jobs. How do they expect to get their money if they get someone fired from their job.

A woman by the name of Michelle also called my mother in law and asked her if I had representation. And also told her that I had put her down as a reference which is a lie I would never put my mother in law as a reference. I called Michelle and said a few not so nice things to her. I mean how can they just lie like that I know she just looked my mother in law up on the internet and her number also because I NEVER gave and company her info. She called her a couple of time's then when I called her she was threatening me on the phone I finally just had to hang up on her.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau harassing calls

From June 23 thru June 25 this agency has called my home every day and twice on 6/28. They are calling for someone I don't know but has my same last name.

After receiving these 6 prerecorded messages I called them and asked them how they got my # and the women on the other end would ask how do you know Jane Doe I would ask how did you get my number and she would say tell me how to get to Jane Doe. Ultimately she was rude and then hung up on me.

The gov't needs to get a better handle on agencies like this that harass the working population.
I thought there were laws against debt collectors like this

I've also been getting harassing call from them on my home phone. The funny thing is, I don't have ANYTHING overdue! - I carry small credit card balances, my car is long paid off. I finally got a number for these idiots - [protected]. I ignored the menu & waited for someone to pick up. Of course as son as I did, I let them have it with "WHY THE F**K ARE YOU IDIOTS HASSLING ME? - & immediately got "sent back" to the menu, so hung up. Also about to report them to the MA attorney general's office.

1. Get a recording device and put the next conversation on speaker.
2. Before they start their tirade, ask if you can record the conversation (required if your state requires it, otherwise, record away).
3. Have them start from the beginning.
4. Look up the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
5. Count the violations.
6. Profit - it's $1, 000 per infraction, so they have now paid you for your time. Your state may also allow for recovery.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Phone Harassment

This company has left repeated phone voice mails demanding to talk to a person we never heard of. The last voice mail said that by not answering the phone we were acknowledging that we were this person and "full action" to collect the debt was to begin. They did leave a return phone number.

After this last call I decided to contact my attorney who directed me to file a complaint with the FTC and the AZ state's Attorney General. In addition, she was going to write a cease and desist letter to this company.

In the mean time I received another call from this company and spoke with a lady who assured me that the calls would stop and that there would be no need for a letter from my attorney.

You spent more time writing this message, and calling your attorney, than it would have taken to research your rights under the FDCPA and write your own cease and desist letter - for free.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau numerous phone calls

For several weeks I have been getting messages to call [protected]. I tried on several occasions to call. I would get messages it was a non working number or a funny noise. For the last week the message has said to call the number regarding, the name they mentioned was my deceased son. He has been gone now for one year nine months. Finally, this morning I got through. They say the name so fast when they answered that you could bearly understand them. I tried to ask what this was about and that I had tried to contact them and their number wasn't working she just kept talking rudely to me asking my number. I told her, she said this is in regard to stating my sons name. I said please don't be rude I'm trying to talk to you. She said I'm not being rude. I want to know who this call is in reference to. She stated his name and was very nasty. She got me angry and " I said he is dead". She said we will take him off the list. Very rudely. As I tried to find out what this was about she hung up on me. I waited about 15 minutes and called back to get the name of the company. When she answered she said the name, I was going ask more questions and she hung up again.

When my son died I changed his address to mine. When all his info came in I sent death certificates to everyone. This holiday season was hard enough to get through let alone dealing with phones like that and still not knowing what it is all about. I have personally never had to deal with collections, now I understand what people are talking about. There are laws regarding collections, it is to bad they are not able to enforce them. The state should make it easier to make complaints and bust up the organizations.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Harassing Phone Calls

I just got off the phone with a representative (Mr. Carter) from Mercantile Adjustment Bureau. He call asking for a friend of mind that I have not seen in over 30 years. I told him that I knew this person, but why was he calling me. He said my name comes up on the account. I tried to explian to him that his data was really outdated and completely incorrect, he wasn't hearing anything that I said. He was so arrogant and obnoxious that when I told him no to call my number amymore, he talked over me drowning out everything I was saying. Wow, he was really desperate. Either way. he actually hung up on me and when I called him back, he said that the conversation was over because I was obnoxious. What a sad person. He needs my help to locate some but instead becomes arrogant and obnoxious while asking for my help. Mercantile Adjustment Bureau obviously employs "gangsters" that think they can do anything. The scare tatics didn't work with me, and I hope thaty don't work with anyone viewing this blog. Its against the law for the Mercantile Adjustment Bureau gangsters to threaten or to continue to make unsolicited phone calls in the manner that they do. Although I have not seen the person that the Mercantile Adjustment Bureau representative was calling me about in over 30 years, I know where he is located and would have probably told the representatives if he had not been so arrogant and obnoxious. As it stands right now, they can't get any information from me. Beware of Mercantile Adjustment Bureau Gangsters!

I have been receiving harassing texts from them saying "Someone will visit me at my home" . Eventually I got a bit worried even though I have never ever in my life had any finance I have had a couple of my employees run up debts but I am retired now. I phoned and they were very aggressive but I used to employ 200 blokes and no one intimidates me so I ended up losing my temper and hanging up on the guy. I think it's a big scam and should be stopped. They are obviously ###.

Mercantile Adjustment Bureau collection harassment

After my bankruptcy which discharged all of my business line of credit debts, MAB has come a-calling several months later, calling my house every day, harassing me in direct violation of bankruptcy law. They are dishonest, rude, unprofessional, and ill-informed. I am reporting them to my state's Attorney General who, I am sure, already have an extensive file on these a-holes.
