mastercraft exterior french door
The horror stories you hear about Mastercraft exterior french doors...are true! Do not, I repeat...do not purchase this product (esp from Menards). Our blueprints called for 5 sets of french doors, which we purchased & our licensed contractor installed. Every time it rained, those doors leaked...so bad, it ran down into the floor below. Contacted the Menards Mgr, wrote letters, and took pics. Took Menards 2-3wks to have the Mastercraft rep FLY-in from WI to try and fix. Blamed on improper install...spent all day caulking, putting in little pad bumpers...testing w/the water hose. The rep declared them fixed. Few days later after a rain, leaking again! Water poured in over the threshold. JUST b/c we've spent so much money at Menards these past months building our home, the Mgr reluctantly allowed us to return them (but we had to buy replacements thru Menards). We upgraded to Pella sliders- as I'm scared to death of french doors & the possibilities of leaks! Love the new sliders. HATE Mastercraft exterior doors, such poor-poor quality and added so much stress to our lives. Menards/Mastercraft point to the builder and say improper install...but even after the rep came out and made sure they were all level, caulked, etc...still bad. BUYER BEWARE OF Mastercrap/Mastershaft doors.

gender discrimination
I held onto this job for a year and a half, and usually never have I let them down. But all of sudden I became pregnant over the summer and was bombarded with the symptoms, such as getting sick frequently, excessive fatigue, and acute memory loss, which all posed a major challenge for me to go to school and go to work and be on time all the time. I tried to take on a second job and was working a total of 60 or more hours a week. That ### wore me out and I had to go back down to the one job that I had before. In the month of October they told me that I had to sign a paper agreeing that I ###ed up and was late. Come to find out they wrote me up for the day I had to call in because I was sick and threw up all over my clothes and had nothing else to wear since I live out of town. I had gone from just this one incident to being on grounds for termination.
Excuse me, but I thought that if a woman becomes pregnant and has trouble meeting all the demands she is entitled to certain rights by law to keep her job. It's not like I have always been this way. They ###ing knew the whole time and just set me up. There's no way any of the general managers will understand my situation enough to give me another chance, because they are all men. I delt with the ### manger this Sunday but I did get along better with the others when I worked there, but still, they are still men. Now there is no way in hell I can pay my bills and keep a roof over my head for more than a month and a half down the road unless I land another job. There's nothing but fast food restaurants and Mayo Clinic here. What do I do?

it seems to me you expect preferential treatment because your a women. That doesnt seem fair to me.
This is a good example of why women should stay home with their kids instead of trying to juggle both motherhood and a career. Women expect special treatment from the time the pregnancy test shows up positive. They expect sick time throughout their pregnancy. They want time off for when their kids are sick or when they have some lame-### school play. They always want to leave early because their kids have sports or a geography bee or some other boring function. Basically women who were once hard workers become completely useless once they have kids, and the rest of us have to pick up the slack. "I have a child!" is their battle cry and they turn themselves into martyrs because of it and they use their children as an excuse to slack off at their jobs. Do us all a favor, honey--stay home with your kid. This goes for all the women with kids out there--you are more useful at home. I've had to take on a heavier workload for more than one mother, and I know my life would be a hell of a lot easier if all of you mommys would just stay home. BTW, I am a woman and the same rules apply to me. If I get pregnant, I will not use my child as a pawn to get what I want from my employer. I will stay home and take care of it and not ### about it and pretend to be a martyr like all the other women out there.
so...it's menards fault that you can't be at work when you are scheduled? btw no employer gives two ### about your "other job." i get that you need to work, but you can't blame them for replacing you if you are not reliable. getting along with people is ok, but you have to get there first. if you really got fired because of one late. you should get a lawyer, not post on some complaint board. i know several lawyers in the rochester area that will take that suit in a heart beat. just type "business law rochester" into google.
My advice to you:
1. Stop making excuses- there are millions of pregnant women worldwide with greater pressure than your 60 hr/week work + school (try 100 hrs/week on occasion). Being pregnant is not a free pass to not perform your job well, as you describe ("if a woman becomes pregnant and has trouble meeting all the demands she is entitled to certain rights by law to keep her job") The law only prevents discrimination, it doesn't mandate special treatment!
2. Lose the sexist attitude- mature men (hopefully your managers are mature) understand the demands of preganancy, but just like anyone, managers expect their employees to be reliable, no matter what gender or "situation" they are in.
3. Get motivated- watch The Pursuit of Happyness to see how a homeless, single parent made it in the professional world. Start in fast food or scrub floors at Mayo if that's what it requires. We all start somewhere.
service and products they sell
We special ordered 6 24x80 doors and 3-30x80 doors from Menards in Moline, Il. We were told the doors would be in in 7-10 days. They would send a card in the mail when they arrived. Surprise no card, After 14 days we called to check on them and were told they had been there for a week.We went and picked them up, got them home and they didn't fit. When you order 24 inch doors that is what you expect to get but I guess Mastercfaft doors doesn't see it that way. They think 23.5 inches is 24. Guess I will look elsewhere .
scammers
Beware of ordering roofing metal thru Menards hardware. It comes dented, scratched, poor shipping. They tried to replace some of it, they reordered some of it five times, we never got the replacement. It took us over a year of trying to get them to settle this matter. We had our roof off our house for over a year, trying to get the metal replaced. They lied to the consumer protection, to Discover Card. We have other people who seen the poor quality of metal. We no longer shop at menards, and have cancel our credit card thru Discover, because they believed Menards not us.
When you place your order with Menards they tell you it would be here for you in about 7-10 days. You have to pay for it before it is ordered, that way they have gotten their money from the credit card before you get your metal, it took them three weeks before we got our metal.

"You have to pay for it before it is ordered, that way they have gotten their money from the credit card before you get your metal, it took them three weeks before we got our metal."
Of course you have to pay for it before they order it. Imagine if they didn't and people just ordered whatever they want. People would never even think twice about actually needing it. "Sure go ahead, just order it in. I'll decide if I want it when it comes." Where would they put all the stuff that comes in special ordered? Also, steel is custom cut to the inch that you need, that means they can't just sell it like their stock. It's CUSTOM.
Steel comes in quickly. Steel is made and cut by the next day that you swiped your day and ready to ship. The reason it takes a week is because it has to wait for a truck to ship it out. Gas costs companies money, they're not going to send a big semi for a box of steel. I doubt that it took 3 weeks for the steel's initial order.
terrible experience
After a total remodel of our home in Escanaba my wife and I had a few odds and ends to finish up so we picked up the phone and called Menards to order those few last minute things to finish the project that we had started. This should not have been out of the ordinary because we had ordered several thousand dollars of building materials over the last few month some of it from Menards. In the past those orders from Menards were delivered problem free so we had no reason to doubt that this smaller order of $715.00 worth of building materials and delivery charges would be any different. Oh were we in for a surprise.
After waiting for 3 weeks because it was a special order ( that was paid in full up front)my wife called to find out what was going on with the delivery and they told her it was scheduled for the next day between 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. but they could not give her an exact time. Two days later she calls back and asks " Where is our Delivery" and Kevin, told her that he thought it was delivered but he would check on it. A few hours later kevin calls back and said " I check with my manager and he says the delivery has been made and you should check with your neighbors to see if they received it." Needless to say I made the next call and asked for the Store Manager. I was connected to Tim the "Store Manager." After sharing my story with him and explaining that we just wanted our building materials he told me he was aware of the situation and that when we ordered the materials we gave bad directions and that we have no house numbers displayed so most likely it was delivered to a neighbor and there was nothing else he could do and he is the top manager at the store so there is nobody else you can talk to.
In summary My house numbers are displayed on both my mail box and my front deck. I guess I will have to check with all my neighbors (who do not have house numbers displayed) to find out if they have the building materials that I paid to have delivered to my house.

Menards, will not take back any products that have had gas added to them. It even says it on your receipt buddy. Perhaps you should read it next time. Also, I'm a bit shocked he didn't mention the repair center because that's where they send things like this. I'm willing to bet you were not being so nice on the phone. Why would you aspect someone to be nice back :).
delivery
Menards treats their "contracted" delivery service like a piece of crap, even though their motto is "making the delivery service happy"...so why have so many of their "contracted" delivery services quit them. I, for one, did end up quitting because of a foul mouth manager who thought that he could tell me how to run and load my truck. If I remember correctly, if I get pulled over in the truck, it's my responsibility. Of course, I'm fighting to money that is owed to me for hauling...Then I start looking into other complaints...Oh My! Better Business Bureau has them rated with an F. I would love to see complaints from other previous hauling services...Hope you all got your money... I would love to know how you did it!

I signed up with Menards in Jan 2008 and they said nothing about any stores going in nearby. 2months after I start I read that they are building another store 20 miles from me. When the new store went in my deliveries dropped by 50%.
crappy emplyee treatment
I worked at Menards for a few years in high school, as a cashier. Because I was a good worker, they started having me do computer work. But it was something that I was obviously not supposed to be doing, because the Manager (not just a head cashier) had to log into the computer for me. This became part of my expected duties, and I was not compensated for it. But when the store manager saw me doing it, he yelled at me. And so my manager told me I could only do it when the store manager wasn't around, but that I still needed to do it.
I was also expected to help cash out other cashiers at the end of their shifts. Obviously not something I was supposed to be doing.
They also reduced me to tears by screaming at me in front of customers and accusing me of helping someone steal. I had been working as "customer service" doing returns (with no benefit to me) for a while, and one day a person came to return a drill with no receipt. They only could get in store credit, and my manager signed the in store credit check due to the amount (I told him what was being returned). About 5 minutes later, the store manager came screaming at me about how could I let someone return stolen merchandise. I did not see the customer come from within the store, so I did not question his motives. There were about 10 people waiting in line at the time.
Then when had given my two week notice (I was leaving for college), they brought me into an office and showed me a clearly illegitimate check. It was a money order that had been typed over and altered and had been used as a check at my register. The amount was over $300 which meant that the check should have been initialed by a head cashier and they also would have to approve it on the register before I could have completed the transaction. However, there were no initials, and I did not remember processing the transaction. I did tell them that the head cashier regularly used my drawer to check out customers when I was on break. (They knew my passcode into the register, but when I voiced concern I was not allowed to change it.) They claimed they would be going through the video to determine if I knowingly took this falsified check. In the mean time I was fired. They never let me know what came of it.
I must say that my time there was not worth my effort!

I currently work at a Menards in Indiana (not naming the specific city) and I'm one of two minors working there at the front end. They let anyone who knows how to use a radio be a head cashier. As a minor I have to take a lunch every five and a half hours. One day I was working six hours and was only assigned two ten minute breaks. I let the head cashier know that i needed to take a lunch, and she said that we 'didn't have enough breakers or time' to fit one in. Cue me being written up the next day for not taking a lunch and getting the company fined. So I have to choose to get written up for taking a thirty when I'm told to take a ten, or get written up for getting the company fined? Quit letting airheads be head cashiers. Human resources has not yet gotten back to me about the situation. This has happened on multiple occasions.
My head cashier will have me take money out to the garden center, which I have expressed my fear of doing but they tell me I will be fine. They also have me take the red cart back to receiving and operate the trash compactor, which O.S.H.A says I have to be 18 to do. 'Just don't get hurt.' Call me a [censored] but I don't want the company to get in trouble because of the ignorant and uneducated head cashiers!
Menards is really good at using their employees to excess without giving the proper compensation. When I was working as a cashier I was written up for wanting to count my till. I counted it before I would start my shift and the front end manager yelled at me saying I wasn't allowed to count the money. On one day after being yelled at I counted my till again and the till came up 12. 00 short. I immediately called the manager on the walkie talkie and told her but she just yelled at me over the walkie talkie, later that day I was written up for counting my till. I ended up going to the Human Resources Guy and expressing my concern that if Menards wants me to be responsible for their money then I should have the right to count it to make sure that it has the amount of money that it was supposed to have. I was told I was able to count my money before I take it to the register in front of the manager. So the next day I went into the counting room thinking I was going to get to count the money in my till. But instead the manager weighed the money then handed me the till and told me it was fine. I pushed the issue that I was told I could count the money before taking the till which made the manager very angry at me and from that day forward it was obvious I was going to continue to be treated poorly. The harrassment continued from the management until I finally quit 6 months later.
by the way, there are two other people and a store manager that were also on duty that day, and because she was closing that day, she basically loses all she has worked for in the last six years.
my wife worked at menards for about six years now. she was an assistant front end manager. she was great at her job, never had any complaints against her, never had any mistakes. Then there was something wrong with the money at the end of the day, and after checking their security cameras, determined that it wasn't stolen, they still demoted her to full or part time team member and made her transfer to a store farther away. She gave her life to that job, and she was so proud of herself, now she is so depressed, and she worked so hard. I can't believe they would treat a loyal employee this way
charged for products not received
We purchased a few thousand dollars in pavers Sept. 2017. The delivery company for Menards calls and tells us they are short by 700 pavers. The total amount for all the pavers has been charged on our card. So they deliver what is available. A week later my Husband calls Menards and the rest are available. They want to charge us again for delivering a product that THEY shorted US on. Not our problem! They will not work with us at all. We have spent literally thousands of dollars there over the years, we have no other home improvement store to go to. Manager isn't there, how convienient. Can't get a hold of Corporate, can't get a hold of credit card company, what a joke! Save Big Money, NOT! Get ripped off, YES! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, ABSOLUTELY!

If you buy anything that says its made for Menards (look at the back label) its going to break or not work! Trust me I purchased tools/paint/lights and they all broke or was the worst product I've seen, spent more money buy trying to save a buck! Home depot will meet and beat there prices so save the time and money (after returns and gas) go somewhere else. When your trying to get something fixed and its junk from the start, it *** you off when you have to drive all the way back to take it back. Just wasted my day and not too mention my money!
We bought an counter top ice cube maker that quit working when we returned it they said the extended warranty was canceled after 1 replacement the one replacement was because it came without the ice cube basket or scoop and the warranty on the new one was void because this was the 2nd one we had replaced also the company wasn't making any money if they had to keep replacing things. what the lady didn't seem to understand is we have bought at least 3 of these things in the last couple of years so we aren't replacing the same one all the time she thought we were bringing them back just before the warranty was up.
The extended warraranty CLEARLY states that it is a ONE TIME replacement. Take time and read up on what you have purchased!
i have nothing but problems with lyons industries and menards co. thier plactic byfold shower door crack within 2 years just as there 1 year warrenty is up because their stufff is garbage
Who is right or wrong depends on what you were told when they called to say they were short. Normally you would have to either pay for the second delivery or else postpone it there was enough product to fill the entire order, but I know that that sometimes isn't communicated properly when these calls are made. Generally a second delivery would only be free if store error caused them to be short on the delivery date.
Not having been there, I can't make the call on this one.
awful experience
I got a *** eater from menards took it home and strated it and ran fine. went to use it a few weeks later and it ran for 15 min's thenm shut down. took it back to the store and manager told me that no returns after you put gas in it. How do you know if it works until you put gas in it? this is there policy, no return or refund. i took it to a repair center had it fixed this time it ran 2 mins started rope jammed and shut down. I called the weedeater manufacture and they were very nice. told me if i get a letter from repair center saying it was not repairable they would refund or exchange the machine. Got the letter took it back to Menards and they gave me more crap about it and after talking to several managers i got my money returned to me. this took almost a month to deal with the prossess. i purchased a *** eater from the repair shop so i could get the job done. why should i have to deal with rude managers from Menards. i now go to Home depot they seem nicer over all. tips! buy where they will suport the product.

people are just too ###ed to read the signs, that are in neon colors half the time, right in front of them...then they bring their problems and crap to us at the service desk blaming it on us..
There are signs by the gas lawn mowers and weed eaters say "no returns on gas *whatever you're buying*). If the company said they would return your money, you should have gone to the company, not the store for the return.
store manager — bruce
We ordered windows from the Menards store located on Clybourn (store # 3092 ). When we ordered these windows we were told they are standard size windows and if we could not use them the store would put them back in stock and it would cost us a re-stocking fee and we could only get in house credit. Which was o.k with us because we have 3 apartment buildings and are always having to buy large items . We are less than 5 minutes from Home Depot and we always go to this Menards. Once the windows arrived we could not get a permit to put these windows in. We went back to the service desk and showed them the paper work for these windows and ask if we could return them. We were told as long as they were in the original packages and not damaged. So we took the windows back and the manager name Bruce thew a fit and told us he didn't care what we were told that HE was the boss and HE would NOT take them back. When we tried to tell him what we were told when we bought we windows and what the service desk had told us he repeated, "I HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON ANYTHING THAT GOES ON IN THIS STORE AND I WILL NOT TAKE THESE BACK." He was very, very rude and when we told him we buy thousands of dollars of items from that store he told us he could care less if we buy from that store or not because he was the boss and what he had to say was final and walked away. We have talked to several of the sales help in that store just to see how he treats the employees and its a sad place to work and not even one person could say anything good about him. We just ask what kind of person this Bruce was and it was always the same. They would look around and all of them said he was very nasty to the help.
We spend at least 25 thousand dollars a year just keeping these building in good shape and that is not counting all the other items we have bought at this store.
If we have this kind of problem with "Mr. Attitude" I am sure other people have all so.
Thank you for your time.

no refunds on gas powerd tools if used
I bought a gas string trimmer from Menards during June. The first time I used it, the head got stuck. I took it back for an exchange. They said they cannot exchange or refund my money. I have to take the trimmer into an authorized service shop. I informed them that I bought this thing only a week ago and only used it once. They told me that I am stuck with it and all that can be done is try an fix it. They told me that a couple of months a go, Menards corporate office made this anti-consumer decision not to take back any gas powered equipment if it has been used. I asked the manager for their corporate office number. He gave me [protected]. I called and one of the first things the IVR says is "..customer satisfaction is our number one goal..". After that, you will have no way to talk to anyone live about your return or complaint. They give you an address and a fax number to send in your complaints. I think Menards is going out of business and they are trying to save money anyway they can. And customer service has been hit hard. I got on their very simple website and again, no phone numbers. I found one place that you can send your questions to. I did send my complain to it. Just want to give everyone a heads up...One other thing I noticed, Menards receipts don't have store phone numbers. At least mine doesn't. curious...
Good for you. I am glad you got your money. Unfortunately I was not as lucky or good as you were in explaining my problem and got stuck. I hope others will read these reviews before buying from Menard's. I have spread the word in my little way and maybe, just maybe some day Menard's will change their ways and think of the consumers first. Meanwhile I do my shopping at Lowe's and Home Depot where the customer actually counts, not as another dollar in their pocket, but as a life long consumer.
Well, I got a quick response to my email. A rep replied that he will look into the issue. I didnt hear anything for three days. On the third day I replied to his email asking if he had heard anything. He replied nothing yet. On the fourth day I was fed up and I emailed back wondered how a simple issue like this can take such a long time to figure out. Whether replace the unit or tell me to take a hike. Got an email back and the rep told me, if so simple why dont you take the unit to a service center to fix it?(other words, take a hike). I like direct answers. I replied simply, will do. So I figured dealing with Menards is like beating a dead horse, albeit a very wealthy horse. I found the number to the store from the phone book( remember, they dont have their number on their receipts anymore). I talked to the person at Menards and asked where I can take my brand new string trimmer to get it fixed. She gave me the number to a service place which is 45 miles away from where I live(and 20 miles from that store). LOL. So, I have to take this thing 90 miles round trip and if I am lucky have it fixed a few days later and go pick it up with another 90 miles round trip. What can I say, Go Menards! Oh BTW, when I called Menards, the IVR still says service and customer satisfaction... They must be talking about Lowe's or another good and customer centric hardware store.
That is good to hear. At least we know that the money he is saving cutting back the customer service is going to a good cause.

Some stores like to force their police on the consumer like we had signed a contract with them . I feel before we buy a new product we should 1st be made full aware of the stores police for the very product we are buying at that time . Then if we agree at that time to the police for that item before purchase is made / completed, We at that time can sign the agreed police and after that make our purchase, If we feel like it is unfair at least we will have a choice before we spend and risks losing the amount of money in the beginning of all sales under polices that do not adhere to the regular return polices . If they fail to inform you at the time of sale and you did not sign any agreed police . Then the sale will be under the normal return police of 30 - 90 days or witch ever the time frame along with original receipt are under at the time of purchase . If a police was changed after the purchase was made you would not be under that new police the old police would be locked in for the date of your original purchase date . As all original signed agreed polices before new police changes for all signed polices are made after original sales date for any product in an agreed police form .
Update : After we bought and was told we had to get the Yard Man fixed by an authorized repair shop . ' Because we had used the mower " . And after sitting at the house for a day thinking of how and the only way that Menard's would except a return was only if it was not used and in its original Package . I thought 1st this is stupid how stores can make policies and we the buyer have no common policies that work in our favor to help us in most issues . So I did think long and hard an the thought --->" Loop Hole "
We paid almost $ 200.00 dollars on a Yard Man Mower and had it for less than 24 hours . At fist it started and mowed about 10 - 20 % of our yard all flat and no objects to hit . A piece of metal close to the blade that the blade bolts to fell off . Now the mower just wont start at all . We returned to the store and was told we had to get it fixed by an authorized repair shop . On the box it says you get a two year warranty . We went back home with the same piece of junk, And called all our friends about our problem and at the 1st start of spring if our friends and others shop else where for their mower needs i hope Menard feel the sting as we did . Now if they change there slogan from " SAVE BIG MONEY WHEN YOU SHOP MENARD " ---> TO ---> " LOSE BIG MONEY - GET RIPPED OFF - WHEN YOU SHOP MENARD " .
I just had the same thing happen to me yesterday(7/7/09). The day before my husband purchased a weed wacker/trimmer and when he tried to start it nothing, it just did not work. I took it back to the store; they tried for 20 mins to start it and nothing. They came back handed me the piece of junk along with the number to a place where they could fix it. Right away I told them that I did not want the number, nor the faulty equipment. They told me there was nothing they could do, and I could speak to a manager if I wanted to, but that this policy was put in place because they had found that other customers had done something to the machines and they ended up with the bill. I told him that I was very sorry to hear that, but that I should not pay for the sins of others and that of course I would speak to a manager
I waited for the manager and had a 20 minute exchange with him that started with me pointing out how ridiculous their policy is. How can I test if the gas powered equipment works UNLESS I PUT GAS IN IT! Then basically all that he kept doing was tell me "that's our policy", and I saying am not leaving here without my refund.
He insisted that I had to get it fixed, I told him you know actually I have a broken one at home, that I looked at and figured maybe it's not even worth fixing, I’ll just buy a new one, came here got this one, and now I have to send it to get fixed? You know I bought it because it's new and I expect it to work as new. What you are asking me to do is to buy a refurbished item without telling me is faulty in the first place and that is illegal. You fix it! I am not fixing it! I am not leaving here without my refund or with that piece of junk you sold me!
I finally said if you went to buy a car and you try to start it and they said well there's no gas, you must put gas in order to run it, and I did, then i tried starting it, I give the dealer a try at starting it, and no one can make it work, how then would you feel if they told you that you have to get a tow truck and get it fixed?
He told me that if I got a flat tire in my car I can blame the dealer and have to fix it myself... I said Yes, you are so right but that would imply I actually drove it.
At this point he asked me to lower my voice, after pointing out that I was not speaking loud, but I was not going to stop unless he refunded my money, he said if you don't do that I will ask you to leave and not give you your money back. I was very upset, but I did realized, by the tone of his voice that he was finally seeing things my way and was refunding my money... so I waited for him, as he authorized for my money to be refunded.
Omar the clerk at the cash machine, was very prompt at pointing out that I wasn't getting cash back that it would only go back to my debit card. I guess he thought I wanted the cash for something else, but he made me feel like a junkie waiting for money. Just outrageous treatment. I had other items in my cart that i put there while they were testing the weed wacker, I need them, but there are other stores in town where I can get them. You know I can understand that they must have certain policies on place, but this one is just ridiculous...
Just a little note, when you said you thought Menards is going out of business, you are completely wrong. Mr. John Menards Jr. recently crossed the line from millionaire to billionaire.
menards sucks
So I ordered my siding from Menards. Pointed to the sample wall and told them I wanted that one - the Khaki Dutchlap siding. Two weeks later I picked it up and brought it home. Opened it the next day to find that it wasn't Dutchlep, it was the regular stuff. Went to the store to get it straightened out and was told they'd take it back, but with a 15% restocking fee. What the hell? This was their mistake, not mine, I didn't type the order up. The manager said I should have been able to decipher their order sheet and see that it didn't say Dutchlap before I paid for it.
I wrote letters to the store and to corporate but no response. They've just lost a customer whose been spending about $1200 a year there for the past 11 years. Many of their employees recognize me. But they'll never see me again. Lucky for me, I have a Home Depot about 2 miles away.

I ordered 42' attic trusses to be delivered to the job site , I paid the delivery fee and when it came time for delivery they tell me the road weight is 10 ton and they cant deliver. three options, I pick up the trusses at the plant.( ya sure like I have a 42' trailer.) #2 hire a company to deliver them on my own , oh ya they will give the contact info. What the heck! #3 They can drop the trusses some where along the way. $ 6400.00 order. I cant get my trusses, what a sad way to treat a customer. I have been in this field for 40 years and have never not have trusses delivered to the job site. they are trying to put it in my lap. How pathetic .
I always thought delivery of a washer meant bring it to the home and put it in the basement! Not at Menards! A $102 delivery charge will get you a washing machine delivered to your garage. Yep, that's what I said. Who in the #$@% wants a washer delivered to their garage? Oh, and for an additional $20 the guys will bring it inside the home. Why don't they just charge whatever the fee is upfront for delivery instead of surprising people with an additional charge when the merchandise is delivered.
Spent $360.00 sent in 11% rebate three months ago in Bay City MICH. STILL WAITING FOR REBAIT (customer service with little college butts in tight jeans) says its still being processed ? I now shop at Home Depot and get 10% discount for being active military. Stop supporting the chineeeys at mearrrrds its junk and they LIE.
Just curious, did you contact the store and give them a chance fix the problem?
The Menards employees trolling on here obviously don't understand customer service. I am a contractor and your attitude is why I am done with Menards. I get better service and better quality at Lowes. You're going to lose customers one at a time. BTW, you can stick your "restocking" fee and your glorious "rebates" in the hole!
The Menards employees trolling on here obviously don't get what customer service means. Menards is losing customers one at a time. I am a contractor and I am done with Menards. I get better service at Lowes and Home Depot. And Menards can stick their glorious "rebates" in a shredder.

false advertising
On 6.14.2009 Menards nationally advertised the Quick Set Pool [protected]) for $16.96.
When I went to the store, there were flyers around stating that the "...wrong price was inadvertently inserted...the price should be..$44.88."
The store manager refused to sell the pool for the advertised price. He also refused to give me something in writing to the effect that he refused to sell it for the advertised price (though he did give me a copy of the flyer).
Then he sort of followed me out saying, "Everyone makes mistakes...I make them, you make them..." I told him I thought he was making a mistake right now, and that when I make a mistake, I have to pay for my mistake. He said, "I'm sure you do..."
Hey, here's an idea Menards...advertise "Everything in store FREE!" Then when customers show up, tell them the ad is a "...mistake. But since you've taken the time and energy to come to our store, how about buying something..."
No? Why not, because that would be FALSE ADVERTISING?
You think that Walmart will match any advertised price just because of their good nature?
No, they do it because retailers are LEGALLY bound to sell advertised items for the advertised price.
I submitted a claim to the FTC. All that and this over $30 difference.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
"All Christmas Decor, Games & Toys 50% Off". This is advertised in the store and their flyer in the paper and the only disclaimer is "Off Menards Low Prices". Well it turns out that it's only off their low "regular" prices and not off sale prices. This could be construed as false advertising in itself, but on top of that, nearly all their Christmas stuff is already on sale which means when you are in the store, you look at a tag expecting to pay 50% less and in actuality, you're paying 50% off the regular price which in many cases is the same price as it's already marked. I used to be a hard core Home Depot shopper as the Menards stores used to be poorly laid out...in the past year, I've not once stepped into a Home Depot but I can guarantee that after this experience, I'll be going back to Home Depot and not Menards, not matter what their prices are.
I recall when this happened. The printing error came from the printing company who prints the AD'S not any specific Menard you choose to go to. People like you are a joke, thinks the world owes you something it that it does not.
bellevue menards didn't print the ad. it wasn't our mistake. it was a printing mistake on a corporate level. thanks though.
The ads read "off the Menards everyday low price" and have for many years now. This means the regular price (no brainer). Thats why it has the original price on the sale tag SO YOU CAN SEE IT'S 50% OFF! Your ignorance does not mean companies should have to lose money
and by the way, Menards is a regional company, so it wasn't a nationally advertised ad.
The inside back cover of the flyer states "We reserve the right to limit quantities and to correct printing and layout errors." This is the fine print on the ad. Before making a stink with the FTC, you should have read that. This is standard practice in the retail business, why would they do this just to make a lot of customers angry? This was obviously not done on purpose. Get over it.
Is this a serious complaint? What do you think 50% off means? 50% off the original price of the merchandise you are planning to buy. Menards gives the customer the benefit of the doubt by tagging the merchandise with the new price so they do not have to try to figure out what 50% off the original price is... If your that mad go back to grade school and take a math class.
THERE IS NO WAY THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING
every menards store had to refuse every person that pool for that price it wasn't just you. and it was a mistake and they could not sell it for that price. forgive them and get over it. do you think they mean't to do that..i doubt they did
Ummm, how much law do you know? Because a location advertises something for a price (mistake or not) in a flyer or on TV, etc, they do not need to sell you it at that price. It is only a "offer to negotiate".
If your thinking about a 'bait and switch' trick, then you don't understand what it means. It means they advertise you a product, but when you get there, they are quickly sold out, and they quickly try to sell you a DIFFERENT more expensive item.
cutomer service - store manager
Until resently, I have only had one complaint against the store-it's manager's attitude. He is simply boorish.
Over the last couple years I have had the occasion to be in the store just before closing time when an anouncement is screamed over the PA so abruptly and spoken so fast that no one in the store could possibly understand the majority of what is being said. Every 5 minutes the same garbled voice would shout at the customers to essentually get out of the store--and remember that most of what is being said is unintelligible due to the rappid fire pace of his yelling. I should note on the first occasion I thought it might be a new employee who was nervous or wasn't able to hear what they sounded like thru the PA, but this continued for a year or so.
Well after hearing this same type of announcement on a number of nights I finally asked an employee who was making the announcement. They said that it was the store manager. I then said you mean A store manager thinking she meant a department head, to which she said, no it was THE store manager and she meantioned his name. Well having managed a number businesses, I can tell you that I would have fired anyone that sounded like this repeatedly on the intercom, but it's the store manager who is doing it! Hopefully posting here this will attract someone's attention at head office and they'll give him lessons in intercom etiquette and speak to him about his attitude in general...
I have had the same complaint against Mike... He is a rude know-it-all and screams announcements at closing. Maybe, it's from drinking one too many coffees whole working 14 hour days? At any rate he needs an attitude adjustment and to learn that those he is yelling at are likely the same people who are involved in major projects and getting last minute supplies so they can get an early start .
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
actually there is more than one store manager so they usually do not work from open to close. and they don't stay 2 hours late.. except when there is a huge sale or guests don't get out of the store at close. and yes the night pages at that store sound terrible, that guy got all the stores in trouble, i work at one and now it is more strict.
Here's a revelation! The store is open for 13-17 hours per day for your shopping convience...so why the hell are you people in there at closing time! We are all tired as hell after working all day, and believe it or not we have lives that we like to lead after work! Use the aforementioned 13-16 hours of shopping time to get your ###, and IF you MUST be in at closing time, move your ###, get through the checkout and leave!
Well, General Managers work from an hour or two from open until an hour or two after it closes, so its a long day, cut them some slack.
But, of most of the complaints on this website, yours seems to be the most legit. Those 'store closing' announcements are only to be made 5 and 10 minutes before closing, or 15 and 5 minutes before closing. (The later if there still is a lot of guests in the store.).
I will look into this.
terrible lumber quality
If you're looking to save a few bucks buying lumber for your deck project from Menards, DON'T DO IT! You'll pay more later when you need to replace it all with quality lumber. I built a set of arbors and handrails last spring for my back deck using Menards lumber, and treated it all using the same stain I use for the rest of my decking. One year later, all of the deck boards used on the tops of the handrails have shrunk and twisted and all need to be replaced. One 4 foot deck board shrunk almost 2 inches. Two of the 4*4 support posts have bowed and cracked and now my arbor is crooked. Many of the 2*2 railing balusters are splitting.
I pay a little more going to my local small town lumberyard, but I've never had any issues with their lumber. Most of the lumber from the original arbors needs to be replaced already one year later, and I'll be getting it from my local lumberyard. I will NEVER purchase lumber from Menards ever again! You get what you pay for.

The Menards in Elk River, MN has the RUDEST employees of any store I have been in..repeatedly! They also do not stand by their products. I mostly shop Lowes and Home Depot. Menards does not help you and if you ask for help you get snide looks and [censor] service. I've lived in Elk River for 11 years. Trust me..they only want the money..they don't care about their customers!
Everything not a known brand name at Menards is usually crap. I don't know why I can't seem to remember all the hard lessons learned from their crap since I seem to go back occasionally for a reminder. They do sell groceries now, how great is that?
storm windows
Three weeks after ordering 17 storm windows they came in the wrong size due to an error the store personel made while ordering. After reordering the windows they came in the wrong size again. The right size was on the window but they did'nt measure the same as the size on the window by as much as 3/4 of an inch. Now after six weeks of waiting and no windows they want to order them again? I don't think so. Menards has not only cost me six weeks time but now they have 34 windows to dispose of. I was offered nothing for their mistakes,

We put in new storm windows in our sunroom. Now it is snowing and the windows are fogging up...what is making this happen?
Customer service
I am a general manager at a large retail location and in fact used to be a manager at one of your competitors so I know about guest service. I will tell you I receieved none. I needed to return a chainsaw that did not work. I understand policy is to take it to a repair service. I had to purchase another chainsaw from another retailer because I was in need of one so badly. When I tried to return the defective one I was told to get it repaired. I DO NOT need it anymore I had to get another one. I do not understand how a company can sell defective product and make it the customer's problem. I explained all of this to the dept manager, he said it didn't matter I had to keep it and get it repaired. I wanted to speak to the store manager. The man did not even bother to leave his office, and called the dept manager and told him no. I have never been made to feel more unimportant and insignificant in any other retail environment. Perhaps, if I had been a male returning a power tool my complaints would have been taken more seriously. In my experience I know that exceptions can be made for guest satisfaction. I have never let a guest leave my establishment angry and unsatisfied if I could control it. I was not asking for anything but a return. I should not have to get a product repaired because you sold it not able to work. I know that manufacturers give credit for defective product. I know that it happens and it is not the retailers fault. BUT I also KNOW that never ever have I made that my GUESTS problem and not taken care of them. For a company that screams the importance of customer service... your stores give extremely poor examples of that. Can someone please explain how you know if a chainsaw works if you don't put gas in it?

Lousy Treatment at Beloit, WI Menards
On Sunday, 09'27'15, I bought a discounted electrical switch are Menards, Beloit, WI. Anyway, the switch was lined up with other same switches in the electrical red tag sale, on an end cap. Not huge money here, just principle . . .
Took it, along with other stuff, to check out, and didn't realize was charged full price, until I had chance to review the sales slip. Brought it to the attention of the cashier, who got a "helper" from electrical. The helper said the switch was not on sale. I took her to where I bought it, she said, "Nope, it is not on sale." Though it is was placed with other identical switches in the sale area. It was white versus beige, otherwise identical.
Wisconsin Retail Law, says, if an item identical in principle to others, is placed in the for sale area, in this case an end cap, they must oblige the customer. And the store manager did, since I was right. Then the cuteness took place from a snotty front end "helper."
The front end employee of-the-month -- not, told me to go to END of the line, and she would have the cashier re-handle the transaction. So far, the electrical helper had been very cute about the subject. The front end employee SAM, took it a step further in the cuteness department, and did as stated above.
Making me wait another ten minutes to get out the store. Only two lines were open, people lined up as per usual. She could have had the cashier, simply refund the wrong amount charged, charged me correctly, and let me go.
No, no can't do that, might be construed as good customer service, since I had argued -- correctly -- in my behalf. This was her opportunity to get even, even smiled snottily while doing so. She was compelled to agree on the price, because I was right, this caused her to become cute, to get even!
Gets tiresome, packing my own stuff, getting treated cavalierly, snottily from time to time, at this Menards. Other Menards can be painful to deal with, when things go wrong for them. This Menards is particularly bad, no local competition will do that. And apparent, weak hiring decisions, will do that.
This is long, called the Eau Claire, WI HQ, was told to send this issue to Corporate in writing, or fill out one of those stupid Rate US Forms, to file my complaint, how quaint. Actually filled out Rate US Form for a helper, ironically in electrical. Who had been helpful, about a month before this snotty treatment.
So … decided to leave this instead of writing Eau Claire Corporate, since they apparently are not too concerned about lousy customer service. Corporate Eau Claire, seems to take the same attitude regarding complaints. Not taking a customer call about being treated something other than a customer. Smacks of the too often instances where, I get some other than good customer service. Especially this Beloit store, and their newest SNOT front end woman helper SAM. She had her name tag in caps -- SAM -- by the way.
So screw Menards, I'll drive to Janesville, and shop Home Depot, or Ace locally. Apparently my money is not good enough. Funny, in 2008, I spent nearly $14, 000 there, doing remodeling. And even then had some issues with this store. And used to shop there regularly since, not any more, thanks to front end snot SAM.
Enough is enough, Menards apparently doesn't know about, or be too concerned about customer for life issues, as in my spending my money with say, Home Depot from now on, in lieu of Menards.
Being treated as a second class citizen by retail stores is always unwise. Ignoring such actions, like Menards Corporate apparently does, costs them money.
I'm not that unique, others treated similarly as this snot SAM treated me, will have customers shop elsewhere. Moreover, tell EVERYONE they know how they are treated by snot helpers, like this one at Menards Beloit. I've already told a few, and two of them agreed with my assessment, they've experienced less than decent treatment at this Menards too. Hopefully, they'll think twice before spending more money at Menards.
Bye . . .
Likely as not, once a Menards type sees this nastigram, they'll delete it . . .
At Menards for 1 1/2 hours with loaded cart. Had 3) 8' X 23" shelving boards that had a "11 X 4" sign with a price of $13.10 for knotty pine, next to these were oak veneers for $15.48. At the register they come up $15.48, call for a price check, the guy comes back "$15.48". I bring him to the sign & he grabs the 1 inch screw tag & said "Nopr, thats the wrong price, anybody could have put it there" despite "SOMEBODY" did put it there on the products sign, & who would question a $2 less price for pine veneer than oak. Too bad for me. I call for a manager to discuss his attitude. No one shows, I scan my card & try to pay for the higher price anyways. I walk to the service desk & back to the register 'Ginger' is talking to the buildings dept guy who now realized I was going to report him. I ask her if she is the manager, she wont answer me, "excuse me, I called for a manager, are you a manager?" She dissed me & said "I, m talking ti him". That did it. I turned to the girl & told her cancel the entire transaction. The manager was worse than the dope James. Her excuse was that she was trying to get the "story" from him first. I said that customer service starts with the customer who called for you not the guy who insulted the customer. After alot of rudeness from Ginger the useless manager, she said she would adjust the $2 per board price but I was done! Let them restock the entire order. Best part is you cant reach a regional manager for customer service, just an Eau Clare, Wi
my husband and I went in for a return. The product was a drill and was purchased out of state.. We are in sub-contract work and travel...our employee paid cash for items and receipt was destroyed in flooding we had. We had 3 total. 1 in hand 2 in a work truck on its way back from Pittsburgh. We brought the 1 drill in and explained about the receipts. We asked if this was their product as we are not 100% sure it was this store. they researched and told us it was. We said great! we will bring the other 2 in next week when our truck arrives in ohio. We then bring in the 2 drills and the General Manager accused us of theft. outwardly and openly. Then he further stated we could have dressed up for the occasion and then proceeded to inform us he does not trust anyone who walks in the door.. and that he is the big Company of Menards standing behind him.. and then proceeded to ask me who I have standing behind me... He kept our equiptment and refused to give them back. I explained that I felt uncomfortable leaving the drills there.I stated it felt like if he asked me to leave a child there I should just trust him. he then said that he hopes my children are worth more than 200.00 dollars. he still has our equiptment. I called the regional or the operations manager and he told me he would get to the bottom of things. I had to call him back as he forwarded the problem to someone else without keeping us posted. this new person is calling all retail stores to see who carries the product and we still cannot retrieve are items...The manager also explained to us that we will not get our items back and I quote "because I said you cant have them"
Looking for metal 1 gallon cans I normally bought, Menards switched to plastic. No problem there. I commented about how I needed the metal can for solvent materials. The sales rep tol me I should not be putting solvent into a can in the first place. I have 17 years in the industrial finishing business and can tell you that people put solvent materials in 1 gallon cans. The new plastic cans cannot be grounded properly creating a fire hazard IAW NFPA33. Since Menards sells flammable solvents AND plastic cans, they set their customers up for possible injury and or destruction of property by not understanding correct safety procedures. I hope they do not kill or severely injure someone.
I put the extended warranty plan on my washer don't do it unless someone is in your area to fix it.I called on Tuesday to have someone look at my washer. They gave me time on the next day from 8am to 12pm no one had called or came I called the service department and they said it was from 1pm to 5pm. Bull I work 2nd shift and never would have agreed to such a time. they did call me back and said they found someone local to come look at it the next day. I called the company and they were still waiting for the order and couldn't make a appointment until the papers came threw. meanwhile my machine is still not working. why number one did I buy from Menard's I'm asking myself that today. I will now buy locally from an appliance store at least I would get service.. this is a heads up for anyone the warranty isn't worth the hassle
I would ask the idiot salesman one question, Why are chemicals sold in metals cans if due to his uneducated logic that chemicals should not be stored in metal cans.
Yeah, I bought a brand new mower from Menards as well, doesn't work now. The "Professional Repairmen" say I didn't put oil in the mower. There was ABSOLUTELY NONE according to them, we tipped it on its side, and the "Professional" got oil on her hand and the dipstick. Menards is still saying that it's my fault because I put no oil in
I don't think you read my entry, it was not a price problem, it was a cash register error, learn to read.
Holy ###! I cannot believe that a manager of the store did that and acted in that way. You should file a lawsuit against menards for theft of property and defamation of character. If I were you, there is NO WAY IN HELL THAT I WOULD HAVE STOOD FOR THAT BULL-CRAP! If you need the name of a good lawyer, let me know in a post and I will give you the name of a lawyer that absolutely HATES Menards, and would probably do the case for you pro-bono!

Manager
I recently visited our local menards store. I was treated like a bucket of # and I was prepared to spend 5, 000 dollars, plus. It started by me just wanting a few siding samples to look at and the person waiting on us said that he would need to discuss this matter with his manager, because he wasn't sure. After the manager was finished with tending to whatever business was. He couldn't walk his lazy # down to talk to us about your inquires. Instead he rolled his eyes and gave his young peon an answer and sent him down with a sorry we can't get samples!
So john menard here's to you: go # yourself, you corporate [censored]!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Have you ever heard of getting more with honey? So you did not have the serial number when you called is that correct? The person on the phone said he could not do anything without the serial number. The logical thing to do is get the serial number off the water heater.
Also if you really know when you bought the water heater you can go to the computer terminals and it will give you a copy of the receipt if you used a credit cards or wrote a check. So you are not screwed unless you act badly to the staff.
How did you act? I have had wonderful experiences with Menard's and I have purchased hundreds of items over the years after the remodel jobs. There are always extra items left over after a job. If I can't find the receipts because I paid cash for small ticket items then I get store credits. No big deal because I can always find else to buy there. The have great prices and selections.
Be kind and you receive kindness back, be a jerk and you get yourself right back at you. It up to you how you want to be treated.

anyone who uses such crude language sounds so offensive that they have completely turned off my mind to whatever point they are trying to make. i am quite sure that menards is thrilled to be rid of people who act uncivilized. they couldnt care less how much you were going to spend there.
start shopping at your local mom and pop stores . they work hard to give you the best products and service. and back them up to. may cost a little more but worth every penny if you have ever been put thru the ringer at a big store.
i understand your concern. i bought a water heater there two years ago and it went out. i was told because i didnt have the serial that they couldnt do anything for me or uphold my warranty. when i implied, so i'm screwed, the salesperson hung up on me. total bs and unfair.
Funny how everyone comes prepared to spend all this money...but usually you never buy anything anyways. Grow up, get to the top of a really high building and do us all a favor by jumping off you piece of ###.

You are correct about the poor quality of Mastercraft doors. It's obvious there is a lack of Quality Control during the engineering, manufacturing, and assembly process. After purchasing Mastercraft French doors, I examined them only to find poor craftsmanship and a clear attempt to keep cost down through inferior materials or lack of essential components. Firstly, underneath the sill where it is fastened to the jam there was no caulking to prevent water seepage. This was the first part I fixed. Probably one of the reasons blondeauto's doors keep leaking at the corners. I also noticed that the composite sill was cracked. The staples they use missed the board and cracked it. So I pulled the staples, glued it together, and used much stronger screws to refasten it. Then came installation. After installing the doors I noticed they were racked...misaligned. Therefore I checked the frame for square. It was. This is when I saw that the doors were titled not the frame. I looked at the hinges and I could see that the flawed routering produced different depths causing the doors to tilt at an angle. This is a manufacturing defect caused by poor quality control. When the jam is being routered it is getting pressed at one end when passing through causing the hinges to be set at different depths. When the frame is assembled, the board is flipped and now the reverse problem is on the other side. The solution is to shim the middle hinge and double shim the top and opposite bottom of the pocket for the hinges. After fixing that I stood back then saw a spot of light coming through the top of the doors where they meet. It seems the design missed a seal for the top of the astragal. Also, missing were the two keeper plates for the lock pins. I decided to take a trip to Menards to ask where this missing hardware was. Menards contacted the manufacturer and they said they no longer use the keeper plates but use this little plastic cup to insert into the lock bolt hole. No security there. As for the seal, they said it only comes with one on the bottom not the top. They gave me no solution for the daylight showing through the hole or the wind and cold air that comes through it. Nice! Now onto the door handle and deadbolt installation. Guess what? The strike plates don't line up. So you can't lock both at the same time. Back to Menards where I purchase another strike plate to grind and offset to get the locks in alignment. I think that's enough. I wouldn't recommend a Mastercraft door based on this experience. As for the hundreds of doors that the contractor installed, shame on you for using such a cheap product.
I install hundreds of doors a year and have never had a problem with Mastercraft doors leaking as opposed to other brands. That's why I now use Mastercraft doors exclusively. Being an experienced contractor, I am often called out to fix a door after a so-called professional contractor installed it and almost always the problem is the initial installation (slamming the door in the opening to move on to the next job---no follow through). If all five of your doors have problems, I hate to break it to you but it sounds like your contractor is the actual problem (your pictures look like it too).
