On the 2/10/2023 at approximately 11.am my son went into Liquor land to purchase one (six pack) Jim beam and coke. The shop assistant asked to see his ID and then denied him service. My son was surprised and said ok and quietly left the store.

When my son returned home, I asked him where was his six pack and he said the shop assistant said she would not serve him any alcohol. I said did you show her your ID and he said "yes but she would not serve me".

I then decided to go to liquor land and ask the shop assistant why my son was denied service. Firstly, I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was away. Then I asked why was my son was denied service, the response was " I can serve or not serve anyone I like, It is my discretion not to serve him. I then asked her "did she smell alcohol on him and did he seem intoxicated or rude. Her response was "it is my distraction to serve who ever I want". I told her this is discrimination to look at my son and could she smell alcohol in which she said no and tutted.

I told her again this is discrimination and I told her I was going to ring Fair trading. I left the store with my son and went to the closest chemist to acquire a breath test that was administered by the chemist. The result was below 0.02. I then proceeded back to liquor land showed the shop assistant the breath test, I then told her this was discrimination and then the other male shop assistant said "oy she can serve who she likes" I responded "don't oy me". He said other things that were foolish, but I ignored him.

I told the female shop assistant that I was putting in a complaint and seeking advice from Fair Trading. She said ok, would not apologies to my son, just kept saying she can serve whom she likes.

My son and I are of Indigenous decent and

I have the used breath test on my persons.

Desired outcome: An apology to my son.Attend appropriate cultural and ethical training. Not to discriminated on appearance (skin colour). To serve all customers with respect and kindness.
