HomeTown Buffet lousy service

We went to salinas location on sept 7, 2013 at 5:30 pm for dinner for my daughters birthday. We have been going to this resturant since it first opened. We spent $80 for the meal which was not what we paid for.
He chicken was overcookeda s well as the ribs. No steak at all but they advertised it. No glasses for drinks, no cones for ice cream. Most of the food trays were empty % nobody was refilling them. Nobody ever came to the table as a server and never cleared away the dirty dishes.
This was an overall bad experience and I dont think I will be returning to this resturant

HomeTown Buffet dirty bathrooms, horrible food, unclean plates

Food is gross. Manager last dont give a shot about anything. Beef undercooked after i request well done. No plates for food as they sent washer home. Was told to use cold salad plates which were splattered with dressing. Bathrooms were nasty. Mens room. Urine on floor, toilet paper all over. ### gaskets thrown about. All while the lady manager at HB #707 chit chars with 3 other girls at register. Im disgusted with HB. They need to look at Golden Corrals model of business. Im still mad. Fish was dry, nothing was good.

HomeTown Buffet bad customer service

I went to the Hometown Buffet in Garden Grove twice and both times had very bad experiences there. The first time I went in the morning, the people were okay, not great or welcoming at all, perhaps because it was morning. The second time was on Halloween. The male Asian manager was friendly and nice but the staffs were just mean. I was getting my steaks when a female staff came up to me and said that I can't cut the steak myself, but I have to let her do it. I wasn't gonna cut it myself if she was standing there. Because she was gone somewhere that's why I had to cut it myself. And she only gave me a small slice and said that I was getting it the second time that's why. The first time I was getting the steak was for my 8 year old sister and she saw it! she was the one who cut it for us ! I told her that and she just ignored me ! We paid for the buffet, not like I was eating for free or something ! IT was a freaking buffet for God's sake ! I'm supposed to get as much food as I want ! so freaking rude ! When we were done and went outside, a Mexican female staff bumped into us and didn't even apologize ! so unprofessional ! I would not go back here again ! Twice are enough !

HomeTown Buffet poor quality food and selection

This was the most disappointing trip to eat out that I've ever experienced. The food was all old except for the Sprite Zero I had to drink with my meal. The fish was disgusting, cold, dry and old. The salad bar was messy with food floating in the dressing and toppings. The fried chicken was even old. There was lipstick on my cup. The cake was even dry. There were minimal options available and the ones they did have were disappointing. I really wished I had grabbed a burger instead. I will definitely not eat at that location again.

HomeTown Buffet steaks

I am disappointed in the steak being served at the Vacaville Home Town Buffet. First, it had none of the appearance in the advertisements. Two, all ads appeared to show a full size steak available to be served. While at the Vacaville franchise on 7-18-12, I spoke with the Manager about the fact that a full size steak was not being served. They instead wanted to slice in half or just cut off a portion of the available steak. The manager informed me the ads are a bit deceiving and actually, we are only served a piece approximately 2 x 3 inches. He did allow me to have the full steak which was on the table, but it was thin, overcooked, and had no real taste which I look for in a steak. In fact, the majority of the food was really tasteless and mediocre at best. The salad bar was very good and possibly the saving grace for Home Town Buffet. I know your corporation has an extremely difficult job of providing quality meals at an affordable price, but don't advertise and show a nice thick, plump, juicy steak if your intentions are not to serve one. Thank you.

HomeTown Buffet substandard food prep, service, health code violation

My family ate last night at the hometown buffet on sunrise in citrus heights. First, the selection for a sunday was below par! Then to look at the salad bar the lettuce was wilted, and the soups were intermixed and splashed all over. The main food looked like a food fight had happened. The floor by the food buffet was dirty, with food all over. The sodas and coffee were watered down. The beef they were serving was not rare, it was raw! They didn't have prime rib which I thought they are to have on all sundays? They had ham, sausage, and the raw meat. The manager never came to talk to us, he obviously didn't care about what was going on. I will post as many reviews about this nasty restaurant that I can. There were other complaints about the temperature of the food, they brought the thermometer and stuck it in the food on the line, rather than to take it and do it where others cannot see. Just nasty! I took pictures of the nasty restaurant, and the raw meat. Will upload later.

HomeTown Buffet filthy, disgusting bathrooms and floors

Miserable attitude of general manager alfred hanson-quaye when informed of the deplorable state of his bathrooms and floors

He raised his voice and treated 4 customers as if they were dirt threatening to throw them out.

If his bathrooms and floors are that dirty, I can just imagine how his kitchen is at 7 pm on a friday night... It does need an inspection from the department of health of broward county, before some poisoning accident happens.

For the protection of the general public, it is imperative that the health department inspects those premises and insists on them being cleaned as often as required to avoid any health problems that may occur in the future.

I for one will never eat in that restaurant again and will insist that none of my acquaintances go there either

HomeTown Buffet customer harassment

This happened to me twice already. The manager/owner of this hometown buffet located in hamilton ave. San jose, ca also serves as a cashier. Not once but twice did he humiliated me because he thinks that I am pretending to be a senior citizen just to be able to get a senior discount for lunch. When I was about to pay, he ask for my id and loudly said that he does not need to see a senior discount card. I have been a customer of this hometown buffet for years when he was not yet the operator/owner. He is a nasty person who disregards a disabled senior citizen like me. If it was a complement that I don't look like a senior... That I could take. But if it is an insult, then I do not recommend this restaurant specially to seniors who look younger than their age according to their standards :)

We kist ate at Home Town Buffet in Yuma, Az. on Sat. 9/8/2012 & its the Worst food we've ever had. The so called HOT Food wasn't HOT, the corn beef hash was so cold like they just took it out of the freezer & didn't heat it up or anything. We will never go to one again. How they pass health inspection is beyond us as it shouldn't pass.

HomeTown Buffet cold/raw food

3 of us stopped at Home town buffet in Madison on 9/27/11. We commented on the fact that none of the hot food seemed to be very hot. One member of our party cut into a piece of baked chicken that was not fully cooked, and was bloody in the middle. The manager came and talked to us and told us that we just got a piece with " a vein in it, and anytime you cut into a vein, it will bleed." He didn't seem to understand that EVERY piece of chicken has veins, but, chicken cooked properly will not bleed. I also commented on the fact that none of the food seemed particularly hot, and asked him how often the temperature of the food was checked. He said they check it 2-3 times a day. In checking with other local restaraunts that offer buffets, it seems that most places check the food temps AT LEAST HOURLY. I hope the emergency rooms in Madison are prepared for massive food poisoning victims.

HomeTown Buffet attitude by cashier

My father and I go to the home town buffet in gardena every week. So often that we are on a first name basis like janet, daisy, teresa, aloginay and even know one of the managers martha. My father who just turned 81 this past wednesday received a coupon buy one meal and the other meal is free. The cashier arminda was very rude when I asked her about the senior discount. It was my error since I did not see the fine print stating that no other discounts would be applied so for that I apologized but this cashier is just flat out rude. This is probably our third time dealing with her, was not impressed the first time as she never greets customers or never acknowledges anything thought she was just having a bad day so I let it go, the second time again she was the same way but today was the icing on the cake, came to the conclusion that she hates her job or hates dealing with customers. Is it that difficult to smile and acknowledge customers at the counter after all she's the first person a customer deals with. Is she that miserable or does she lack true customer service skills. What kind of cashier does not greet the customers, she only speaks if you speak to her first no customer service training whatsoever. I'm not asking her to be my best friend but she comes across as if she hates the world and her attitude reflects that. Bad impression of your company.

HomeTown Buffet overcharged by mistake but won't refund promptly

On wednesday 8/10/11 I went to a hometown buffet in newark california for lunch and the cashier who was obviously new and inexperienced overcharged me tenfold. She must have pressed "7" twice, so instead of charging me $7.71 she entered $77.71. I didn't notice it at that time, but the next day when I was checking my bank statement, I immediately found that mistake and went to the buffet for a refund. The cashier was not there that day and I did not have a receipt, just a bank statement. So I was not surprised when the manager did not pay me back but promised that he would investigate the matter and would call me in 24 hours. I accepted that because I had no receipt. Later that day I found the receipt with the overcharge, so today I went there again to get a refund. That same cashier was there, she recognized me, and we called the manager again. Of course, he did not call me back, and to my surprise he still would not return the money, and continued to claim that "the corporate office" needs to "investigate it. " like maybe I was not alone, so it was not a single charge etc etc. But it is absurd, because the girl (The cashier) remembered me. So instead of apologizing for their obvious blunder they prefer to cast suspicion on me. He never told me the timeframe of their "investigation". I called the corporate office with a complaint, and they put me on hold, obviously called that manager, and then confirmed his story about the need to investigate - without any time frame, again, and without a proper apology. I know that eventually they will return my $70, but I will never set my foot there again. If it happened in a regular restaurant, I wound have been refunded immediately, with proper apologies, and without the need to go there multiple times and ask for my own money. This is not the way to treat a customer, period.

The manager should have apologized for the mistake. It wasn't like it was a five dollar mistake, seventy dollars is a large amount of cash. He should also have offered a free meal for the inconvenience of having to go back to bring this mistake to his attention. I have had situations were the service was bad, or they made a huge mistake and the managers were jerks. Home Town Buffet is a hospitality industry, and in this economy, I would think they would want to keep as many customers they can.

HomeTown Buffet unsanitary

I witnessed a worker wiping off the counters and then throwing spilled food back into the clean food. I saw him do it with the shrimp, steamed carrots and the mash potatoes. The worst one was the mashed potatoes, he not only threw the dirty food back in, but he used the wet towel that he was using to wipe off the counter, to do it. I asked the worker if he does that often and he stated " sometimes" and walked away. I found the manger and complained and he didn't seem surprised, nor did he seem to care. He just asked what I wanted him to do about it, then asked if I would want him to talk to the worker. He claimed that speaking to his worker was all that he could do. I requested a refund, seeing how I was no longer going to eat anything after seeing that. He wouldn't return my money, instead he gave me a business card that he signed, that he said I could use for a free dinner. I was disappointed on the way they handled their food, but I was very disappointed that no one seemed to care, not even the manager.

HomeTown Buffet the waitress was acussing us of stealing the food

since we first got to the restaurant the waitress gave us a very bad service. She came to us offering samples and my husband asked her for the last two and she replide with a very bad attitude and said no there for sampleing not to fill you up! and later the waitress left and came a few mineutes later because she new that she was being very rude and gave us more samples.wel that was only the first part of it and then my husband came to the table with alot of food so we wouldn't have to get up every while and then my husband told my daughter to eat but she said that she didn't want any more. but then my daughter was only joking around and said "well i'll take it home then" and then the waitress heard my daughter saying that and was watching her and acussing us and didn't let us eat in peace because the waitress was giving us dirty looks making us feel bad but i started to suspect what was happening but then the waitress came to our table and said to me and my famliy in a very loud voice and letting the people around our table listen to the convercation she was giving us. And said to us in a very loud voice that could not be taking the food home from there but i told her that the thing was that my daughter was only joking around.but i felt vey imbarassed because she made us feel like we were stealing in front of everybody. And then the waitress went to go acuss us with the maneger. Then the maneger came to our table saying that her understanding was that we were stealing food from there in a rude voice. and i just stood there quiet for a second and said no my daughter was just joking around and the maneger said we know but thats the waitress is job right after i explained to her what happened. and the maneger also said that she was wacthing us through the camara and i said what camara i want proof! but she didn't want to show me the proof she supossedly had and the maneger right away said it was my mastake im very sorry and then offered us free passes for me amd my famliy. but i ws very mad and imbarassed and said to her no thank you i have money to pay our way in and i am never going to return to this restaurant again! But i think of going farther with this problem and sew them for what they did yo me and my famliy.

If you are going to make fun of someone's English Syb, make sure your use of it is above and beyond reproach. When you pose a question it is customary to use the appropriate punctuation. Snark is an art - it should not be placed in the hands of scribblers.

As for your rather descriptive account of your experience; I am not a big fan of Hometown Buffett, but could it be possible your waitress was simply just prejudiced against the mentally challenged... if so, I find it totally unconscionable that she treated you that way, and I say SURE go for it - "SEW" her - sew up her lips real TIGHT. Hometown Buffet is for old people anyway! Maybe the waitress was mad that you weren't a hundred years old! (Love that South Park Episode.) When a eatery treats myself and my family poorly, I refuse to eat there again. Ever since my kids were little I took them to Norm's, which is a family eatery in CA. When my kids were young, I ate in the Lakewood, CA one, and the waitress was rude, got our order including the drinks wrong, the food was cold, and she didn't bother to even check on us during the entire meal. I had to go up to the front counter to pay for my bill. I didn't leave her a tip, and called the manager, which in turn, was very rude and uncaring. I don't eat at that Norm's if anyone suggest we eat there, I explain what happened, and refused to eat there. Though, I enjoy eating at other Norm's. I would have eaten there a couple times a month when I lived in that city, and they no longer have my business. If they choose to treat their customers so rudely, eventually it will be shut down.

Brenda, I don't know how to send you a message... What do I do?

How old is your daughter? The waitress sounds quite rude indeed, but I don't think suing is a good decision for this case. This is more of a misunderstanding with the waitress.

HomeTown Buffet racism

The above named bussiness is horible, it practice rascism and discremnation against people of color and minorties
I have been going to eat at this resturant in this locations for many years even before it became hometown buffet, and ever since it became hometown buffet it got even worse.
On the hands of the so called general manager named chris eicheir I was humalitaed like never was in my life for no appearant reason except my skin color and race,

He uproached me when I was getting a lunch to go, when I just gott started putting the stuff that I wanted to eat in the box he came out form the office after saw me on camera of course, he came straight to me and said you can not take all chicken in your to go lunch when I had just got started how did he know I was gettng only chicken? I told him im not done yet and even if I get only chicken or only one thing I can, since his place does not have anything posted stating that I can only take certain items, he then along with his shift manager took the food box form my hand refuned my money and thow me out of the resturant and told me not to come again / I called te concord police department to document this, they came and said they only document crimes and here they said there was no crimes and told me that I can take this resturant to court if I wanted to and told them this is exactly what im going to do.

HomeTown Buffet the most humiliating event in our lives

Today, we had experience the most humiliating event in our lives. First, before I begin, I would like to add that we are honest people who will never jeopardize our integrity by skipping out on payment for the buffet line for a measly $13. Every Thanksgiving our family has held the tradition to have a lunch at Hometown Buffet. We were having a great time, catching up on each other's lives, since we only see each other 2 times a year. We were there on our third hour, so my brother, being a smoker, step out for a smoke. He came in, was about to drink a ocke when the store manager, Tracey Gradel, took hold of his cup and jacket and falsely accusing him at the top of her lungs that he did not pay and if he does not show proof at that moment that she would have to kick him out. Now everyone in the restaurant was doing the same thing we were doing, minding there own business and chatting with one another until she publicly humiliated our family by harassing and falsely accusing us. Since we were not able to find the receipt of that payment at that time, we asked her to check the register and she also added that they can check the camera to see if payment was done. She came back and said that it was not worth "it to do that for us" and that if we do not show proof of payment because of her laziness to investigate (I'm pretty sure that is included with job title) then they would have to kick us out. Frantically, we were looking for the receipt, we finally found it at the bottom of my sister-in-laws purse. We showed proof, yet there was no remorse for the false accusation she claimed. She was yelling at the top of her voice, and we do have eye witness of what she did. I really do need a reply back from higher management. I don't feel any conflict was resolved justly. I do think she needs to be reprimanded with her actions and undergo extensive "management" training. In addition I do feel we need to be compensated for the event that was lost this Thanksgiving day. There is a right way to approach customers that will not involve public humiliation and harassment. Webster dictionary defines harassment as "to create an unpleasant or hostile situation for especially by uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical conduct 2: to worry and impede by repeated raids.

Frankly she did all this and quite more. All I'm asking is for a simple and just resolution to your customers.

The receipt is to stay on your table or on your person during the time you are there. It's your ONLY proof you paid. You lost the receipt, and you paid the price. I suggest you apologize to that manager lady. She's only trying to run an honest business. If you can't cooperate, stay out.

All I know is that the Hometown Buffet in Hawthorne, CA off of 120th and Hawthorne Blvd accepts people with fake ID's and socials to work there and that is completely against the law with the state labor board. I think that hometown buffet should be investigated! Those jobs are for the American people!

I really hope that lady (the manager) got in some serious trouble for what she did. And on top of that, I hope Hometown gave some sort of ridiculous offer, like a year of Hometown Buffet for free. If they didn't I hope you and all of your friends never go there again.

HomeTown Buffet being lied to

Yesterday, 3/25/09 I had a bad experience at the hometown buffet in lancaster, ca. My husband and I had a coupon for one free dinner upon buying one. It is our daughters 20th birthday. We took her to hometown buffet for her birthday dinner, she wanted to go on the night they have orange chicken. I called the day before we went and asked what night they had orange chicken, they said on wednesday night. Then wednesday night just before we walked out the door to go, I called one more time and asked them what was on the menu. I was told orange chicken, then I said you sure orange chicken, she said yes, then we left to go there. As they bring out the dinner food, I asked, when are they bringing out the orange chicken, then I was told they don't have orange chicken on wednesday. I, my husband, and my daughter all got upset and I told the waitress what I was told. She had the manger come talk to us, and yes, I agree they have a right to change things if they want.In this case they made tuesday the night for orange chicken from now on. The manager came out and told us it was on tuesdays now. But what upset us, is that just before walking out the door I called and I was assured there would be orange chicken. That was the only reason we went to hometown buffet that night. If we were told orange chicken was on tuesdays in stead of wednesdays, then we would have waited til tuesday, then the manager had the nerve to give us a coupon that we already get in the mail, buy one regular dinner, then get one for 5.99. It totally ruined my daughter's birthday dinner. All she wanted to eat for dinner was orange chicken and I was assured there would be orange chicken. We had no money to go there, we collected enough recycables that paid for our dinner that night. So I am trying to put in a complaint because I feel they did us wrong. My husband was so upset he could not eat anymore, it made him lose his hunger. My daughter was so upset she almost cried.

if you had no cash to go out to eat in the first place then you might have stayed home, , , thay sell orange chicken frozen and sounds like you may get food stamps...complaining about a dinner after you decided to eat is not smart, , , im shure if you did not eat the manager at that restrant wold give youa refund, , , your husband sonds like he is unable to deal with minor issues as he was upset so he was unable to eat, , , your daughter sounds picky as you stated the ONLY THING she wanted to eat was orange chicken, , , , not gee mom and dad thanks for the effert of my party thoe i know we had no funds for it, ,

HomeTown Buffet customer harassement

Today, we had experience the most humiliating event in our lives. First, before I begin, I would like to add that we are honest people who will never jeopardize our integrity by skipping out on payment for the buffet line for a measly $13. Every thanksgiving our family has held the tradition to have a lunch at hometown buffet. We were having a great time, catching up on each other's lives, since we only see each other 2 times a year. We were there on our third hour, so my brother, being a smoker, step out for a smoke. He came in, was about to drink a coke when the store manager, tracey gradel, took hold of his cup and jacket and falsely accusing him at the top of her lungs that he did not pay and if he does not show proof at that moment that she would have to kick him out.

We do HOMETOWN in Palmdale Ca. Most often than none, the help hast to be asked for ice, ice cream to be filled, and alot of the main food items are emty or low and old. The Hometown in Palmdale has the char broiler for steaks. When going for the steaks they only give you a very small piece. Why is it on the menue if we cant enjoy a nice portion. When approaching the people filling the buffet, their answer is mostly ok and nothing is done about it. What happened to customer service, espacially with what you charge. Get rid of the fake cheese cake, always gets us sick after eating

HomeTown Buffet lack of service

3 of us stopped in to hometown buffet in westchester, ca yesterday, july 29, 2008, which we have done many times. However, we were very upset about the lack of service/food. The regular coffee machine was empty, no ice in the soft drink machine, nobody to slice meat, no bowls in the dessert section, when asking for them, we were given what looked like little coasters. The soft ice cream machine was spitting, apparently empty. Several food containers were either empty or almost empty and it was just the beginning of the dinner hour. How could you ever figure that its worth over $11.00 to have this kind of service. I doubt if we will ever go to that one again. I have always believed that in order to make something better, the people in charge has to be told what is going on.

HomeTown Buffet customer service

My great grandmother and I go to the home town buffet at the moreno valley mall all the time. Especially when I was pregnant. We would go like 2-3 times a week. We have never had a problem with their customer service. In fact they were great! We had not been in like 2 months or something due to some things, but on june 18, 2008 we went again. My great grandmother loves to go there. Or at least she used to.

We did our usual routine which is I drive up to the front and let her out. Yes, she is 91 yrs old and can walk on her own with out a cane or a wheelchair. She is as smart as a whip too. I let her out and she goes to the line. I park the car and get my son out (Who now is 9 and a half mos). Sometimes (Depending on the day and time) , she may still be in line, or sometimes she has already paid. This day, she had just paid when I got to the line. There was a new girl ringing on the register. I looked at the receipt and she had charged us for 2 adults. I made her aware that she did not charge my great granny for a senior citizen. She called her manager to reverse it. The process was taking a long time, but we were patient in waiting. My great grandmother finally asks me what is going on. She's smart, but she does not hear too well. I said to her in the form of flattery that she must look extra young today because she was rung up as an adult and not a senior. Low and behold, the cashier chick looks up and says well maybe you shouldnt let her come up here by herself! Woah! I could not believe my ears. I said excuse me? I said to her well she is 91 yrs old and she is an adult and can come and go as she pleases and I started to explain how I park the car and get my son out etc, then thought to myself, wait, why am I explaining myself to this girl. She had the nerve to say to me that I dont need to get an attitude with her. Mind you there is a line full of people behind me. So she said to me well you dont have to act so rude to me and I said well you dont have to act like a b! She then she flips out more and starts going off on me and I told her to call her manager. After lipping off some more she does and she is still running her mouth. I told her that she needs to just stop talking and hurry and get her manager over here. He comes and the first thing out her mouth is she called me a b bla bla bla. The manager was like well you didnt have to call her a b! Im like excuse me? First of all, I did not call her a b! I said she does not have to act like a b! How dare he come at me like that with out knowing the whole thing. I mean what about what first happened yanno? So I told him. He did not seem like he was really going to get after her for it. I told him I wanted corporates number. He thinks I am stupid, well he gave me the number to the store. So to just skip ahead... I did not call the store. That day I went to their corporate website and filed a complaint. I never heard anything back. I complained about 2 more times on different days on their site again, and did not get any feed back. Finally yesterday I filed a bbb complaint and today I am writing a complaint here. I have not been back since. It upsets me because I would like to go back, but I am so appalled at the terrible customer service I received that day. My great grandmother was so upset because she saw me upset and she has never seen me upset before. It ruined our lunch. We did not eat much that day and just left. When I go in the mall and pass by home town buffet, I sometimes see that girl still ringing on the register. I wonder how many other people she feels she can make comments to like that. Customer service has gone down hill in so many places, it is a shame!

A cook n the Modesto hometown buffet has hepetitis c. Should she be working in the kitchen? I don't feel that it's safe. She could contaminate eople or food. Isn't there a state law against her working in kitchen?

I went to go get a plate of food and something crawling on the silverware. A cockaroach crawling around. I went to tell one of the workers and he killed it.

Specifically went to HTB tonight for a birthday meal of baby-back ribs. We were promptly told 10 minutes by the manager. After about 20 minutes later a rack of ribs came out and I was 2nd in line for a helping. Truly it would have taken a bear with jaws of steel and razor-sharp teeth to drag the meat away from the bone. I complained and they were immediately removed after several employees tried tasting and knifing the carrion. I told the manager and all the staff I could approach that those ribs won't be ready to serve until the next day. I've been a loyal fan of HTB for years, but lately it seems the quality of management is less and less professional and service oriented.

I am sorry you had that bad experience. I know kind of what you went through, yesterday I had a bad experience at the hometown buffet in Lancaster, Ca. As they bring out the dinner food, I asked, when are they bringing out the orange chicken, then I was told they don't have orange chicken on Wednesday. wow i am so sorry that had to happen to you, my husband and i love that same hometown buffet and we haven't really experienced anything like that. it sucks though. i just wanted to say I feel for you! and your great granny... and i totally agree with her disrespecting your great granny by telling you that you shouldn't let her pay alone. I wonder what that girl looks like and who she is? I also agree she is a major B! for saying that! (or acted like one atleast)
