I rented a car for two days at the Montclair, CA office on Central Ave for about $36 per day. I am a Gold Member at Hertz. When I rented the car I told the official at the Hertz office that I might need the car for an additional day. They told me that it would not be a problem. On the afternoon of the second day, I called the Montclair office and talked to the manager, I told him that I I needed the car for one more day. He said that the extra day would cost me $100. I said, "why so much more". He said that my $36 agreement was for two days and it had expired. I told him that I had never heard of paying $100 per day for the cheapest car. He said do you want it or not? I said forget it.
I called the Enterprise office down the street where I don't have any status and they said I could have a car for one day for $59. The important part is that they also told me that when you rent from them, a rental agreement is good for 30 days. So, you can call and add extra days at the original rate that you agreed to.
So, two points, 1. I don't understand why I could not add one more day at the day rate I had already agreed to and 2.) In the absence of any unusual local usage activity, why would the rate go up 300%? They were trying to rip me off!
