Green Motion International review: Insurance scam

Good afternoon.
I am emailing to complain about Green Motion falsely taking over £1000 for a weeks car hire in May 2026. Edinburgh Airport Branch.

We were expecting a deposit back and haven't received it. I contacted the company and they came up with false information regards our eligibility.

Basically I booked a rental car from Edinburgh Airport for 1 week hire. I booked and paid Rentalcars.com.
I paid £215.41 for a mid size Seat Leon. Also paid an additional £43.08 for upgraded insurance by Debit Card. I figured all was booked and paid for.

I arrived at Green Motion to pick car up. They told me that the car wasn't available. And proceeded to inform me that I hadn't paid for the hire. I said I'd paid Rentalcars.com and had a booking reference and proof of payment.
They told me that that was a booking fee and I had to pay Green Motion for the car hire. And also that the car I booked wasn't available. But they were going to give me a bigger car at no extra cost.
They proceeded to tell me that I had to pay a refundable deposit for insurance and also an additional cost for the car.

Because I paid with a debit card and not a credit card...which I don't have, my wife paid £1050 in total. £800 being the refundable deposit and £250 for the additional car rental!
At this stage, we were between a rock and a hard place. On holiday and pressured to pay additional for the hire!

Ive recently been emailing customer services, because you are unable to contact them on the phone.

The customer services agent, Sam, replied saying that the £1050 was a non-refundable payment! And that we opted for the 'upgraded' car! That is pure lies.

We were told that the reason for the £1050 was for £800 pre-authorised deposit for insurance. And the £250 was for the additional car hire.
I looked through the copy of the Agreement, and it seems like they have charged me discreetly. it shows a 'Counter sold Plus' charge of 7 x £125.

I cannot get to speak to a supervisor, I can't contact them on the phone. I am at a quandary now.

I have been mis-informed, mis-lead and had money taken for services I did not ask or agree to.
