The toaster timer failed - so it stayed on, (toast removed as done) - indefinitely. Huge fire risk - but for fire alarm the house would have burned down as the surrounding area got red hot - fumes set off fire alarm thank goodness. Dualit's response 1. This is a commercial product, not a domestic one. 2. You should have stood over it all the time it was on, so it is your fault. Don't buy one.

The same thing happened to my toaster. Fortunately I went back to toast a second round and found the toaster red-hot and potentially about to start a fire. I've spoken to Dualit customer services and as is clearly the pattern, they blamed me, saying I should have switched the toaster off at the plug immediately after having taken my toast out of the machine - seriously? So what about a child or an elderly person with memory problems, would Dualit blame them? Well I was told that they shouldn't be allowed to use the toaster! They offered to send me a new timer for £27. I told them that this is totally unacceptable and that any risk assessment, which they are legally obliged to undertake, should have made it clear that a thermal cutout is required as a second line of defence. They then told me that new machines have a thermal cutout and if I send the machine to them, they will fit a new timer and thermal cutout for £36.30. Why did it take my interrogation to get to this point. Why isn't Dualit taking their legal duty of care seriously and making this suggestion to me as soon as I telephone. Because that would be admitting liability and that is more important to them than customer health and safety? It's the last time I buy Dualit. For safety and reliability you have to buy German these days, I am sad to say.

PS - if this had been a car, then there would have been a recall and the company would have paid to have the fault put right. Is Dualit waiting for deaths to occur, perhaps (heaven forbid) in a tower block, before recalling products to fit a thermal cutout?

cream 4 slice toaster went in melt down and started to smoulder, it was not in use at the time. Luckily I was at home at the time or this may have resulted in a house fire.
Beware ...there was a warning on the toaster to turn off after every use, so that is their get out clause.

Same problem here - toaster stuck ON and we were lucky to notice several hours later before going off to work. In the case of my Dualit toaster, it's a 4-slice unit with the (Made in China) TimeTech TTI-660 timer. Seems like some of these older timers are starting to fail. Hopefully Dualit will step up and address this problem sooner than later. IMHO, they should not have been using inferior Chinese parts in a 300+ USD toaster.

Same problem with us. Timer stuck on and toaster heated up to extremely high temp, but luckily the heat alarm on the ceiling went off and I managed to switch the toaster off and move outside. The surrounding area was roasting hot. This is an extreme fire risk. I have emailed and am awaiting response. To find this is a known fault is very worrying. We have three young children. I have heard they suggest people shouldn’t leave a toaster unattended. What parallel universe are these people living in?

Dualit refuses to admit it has a problem with it's appliance. If I had been out half hour longer, our house would have burnt down. Our dogs were affected by the smoke in the kitchen created by the toaster burning the kitchen units. It was a terrible experience. I took great pleasure smashing the Dualit toaster up with a sledge hammer. Will never by a Dualit appliance again, it was a rubbish toaster anyway. Replaced it with a £15. one that is miles better. I now do my best to warn people about their defective appliance. DON'T BUY ONE. The company has no customer care, literally! Paula

The same thing has just happened to us. Our Dualit toaster timer stopped, got stuck off, then came on when we were out and the toaster set fire to the kitchen unit. 6 fire crews, two distressed dogs - nearly killed by smoke filled house. Could have been disaster! Dualit blamed us! The timer problem is widespread. They have to do something about this. Someone could get killed!
