I joined the Disney Movie Club about 2 months ago when I saw an ad for special Disney movie prices. Naturally, after determining it was an official Disney site I joined and paid the price for the introductory movies. With the holidays and travel I neglected to check my email (I rarely check my email anyway) and didn't think anything else about it until I noticed charges on my credit card statement for movies I didn't order and hadn't received. I have since received the movies and did a lot more checking into this website and what I have found is utterly appalling on these and other pages. I attempted to settle my end of the contract I unknowingly got myself into and purchased the required number of DVDs. Only then did I find out they do not count towards contract fulfillment. I do not want these movies. I was planning on giving out the initial movies as presents but have left them all unopened until this issue gets resolved. I am seriously considering canceling the credit card number they have (and keep charging without my permission) and facing the legal ramifications rather than be held hostage by Disney. I am warning all my friends and family to stay away from Disney Movie Club and am recommending that they stay away from Disney as a company because if they are willing to stoop this low in one thing, they are willing to stoop even lower in others. The family friendly name I grew up with has turned into a warning cry for me and I will never fall into the traps that they are maliciously setting again. Disney has sold its soul and wholesome values to profit. Disney Movie Club, Disney Movies, and Disney Theme Parks have lost my business forever.

I WILL blame them Mellen67. If I sell you a car and are not up front about the problems and make it difficult to find the problems then it IS a scam. Yes I did like the introductory prices, but was completely blindsided by their "Featured Title" charging my credit card automatically (which I am NOT obligated to buy). I'm trying to get the word out so other people don't fall into their trap (it is a trap). And by the amount of posts from others who agree with me I'd say you are fighting a losing battle. But I guess it doesn't matter since you are most likely on their payroll. Why else would you champion your worthless cause Mellen67?

No. That's not what happened. Because when I spoke to them on the phone- they said there was no other previous account in my name. And if they do not accept debit cards at that time- Why was the payment of $103.00 taken off a debit card. Confusing u too, right?

LexandJojosmommy,
I regret your unfortunate experience with the Disney Movie Club. Without having all the information, it sounds like you logged on with an account you previously created and attached this card to. When an account is created, you must "click to accept" the terms and conditions that fully explain the Disney Movie Club for your information and protection. Part of these terms state "Sorry, we do not accept debit cards or check cards at this time." These can also be found in your Membership Guide you received with your inital order. Please give us a call if we can be of further assistance at [protected] (Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 9 PM EST)
Thank you,

OMG- hillarious! Here is my exprience with the Disney movie club. Then you decide either way. I went online & ordered my 2 movies on April 6th. I was looking for an Easter present for my 6 year old daughter. Gave it plenty of time to be shipped by Easter-right? I ordeded Snow White and Alice in Wonderland- the total for the 2 movies + costs was $103.00. I thought well, that was pricey, so I checked again and the Alice in Wonderland was over $60.00 itself (because it was some sort of special edition). So, I thought, pricey, but... I'll pay it cause it will even out (5 free movies, right?) in the end. So I submitted payment, then the order was being processed, but it (the messgae after PAYMENT & DC # was already submitted) said that I could not pick the 5 free movies because an account was already in my name. Weird, I thought... I recieved a confirmation email, but then when I got my bank statement- I had used my debit card and no charge was on there-Disney movie club was not on there. Anyways, so I was under the impression that they dropped it or whatever and went on about my life. Then I got my child support put on the card last Tues. (April 19-)and I had desperately needed it cause I was broke- I had spent every dime BESIDES this 120.00 for csupport which was credited into my account cause I had just started a new job as a make-up artist ($67/hr)and am getting my first paycheck May 1st. Anywasy, I called and checked my account balance- and I had $120.00- csright/- So me and the kids pack up, go to the store, & spend about $100.00 on groceries, Easter baskets and presents, diapers, ect and when we go to check out the girl tells me (after waiting in a long line with a 6 yr old and a screaming 13 month old) my card was declined and the balance on my debit card was $16. and some change. Long story short- the Disnay movie club had FINALLY processed my order and took the 103.00 for the two movies and left me up **** creek. I almost cried- I was so embarassed and now was dead broke in a line with two little ones. I called customer service and they told me they could not cancel the order because there had already been a shipping label created and that there was NO OTHER ACCOUNT in my name- omfg. But they will ship the movies, cancel my account, and send me a label to return them as soon as I get them ( I'm sure if I don't... it'll be curtains-lol) and they have stopped the "hold" payment and the money should be on my card teh beginning of next week (April 25, 2011). Hopefully, this will all work out - they seem to be working with me, but NEVER, NEVER again will I be enticed by a "Disney Deal"-lol! All this drama for a cool Easter present ( she loves ALL Disney movies)- I'll never even get to give her-ha.Thanks!

I have been a member of DMC in the past. The set up for the movie club is similar to other book and music clubs that are offered. You do not get anything for free (or almost free). Always read the terms of agreement before you agree to join a club. Disney made it very easy for you to decline that months selection as they gave you several ways to decline the movie of the month. Boo on you navyguy for trying to blame others for your neglience. (I have not nor have I ever been employeed by Disney, ABC, or any credit card company-I am just a lowly state employee that reads instead of checks off that I have read the terms of agreement).

I would be happy to clear up any confusion about the Disney Movie Club or how the Featured Title process works! Yes, you must respond by the deadline per the membership agreement or you will be sent the movie automatically. Any further questions, please do not hesitate to email me directly at memberadvocate@movieclubinfo.com. Thank you!

I also was fooled into joining and now can not get out of this rotten club. They say you only have to buy 5 more movies but the catch is that almost none of their movies count towards fulfilling your commitment as they are too low priced. At the current time there are only15 movies on their website that would count and half of those are expensive boxed sets.

I totally disagree with navyguy09.
I joined because it was a great deal (same deal you have listed in your emails and same terms you have provided.)
You hit the nail on the head when you said that you MUST reply back to them, either via the internet or via US mail with the card you receive monthly (or approximately monthly, listing what they will send you if you do not respond).
I respond back to Disney prior to the due date that is on the mailing. I have NEVER been sent a movie that I didn't order, and I have never been overcharged for a movie. If I decided to 'skip' that month, I replied back that I wasn't ordering...and I received nothing as requested.
You have an agreement to fulfill in the period of time noted in that agreement mellen67 posted for you. As long as you follow the agreement you won't have a problem.
OH, and by the way...I do NOT work for Disney, and I have no relatives that work for Disney. However, I do read all the 'little print' BEFORE I join anything.
Navyguy09, you failed to follow the agreement. Chalk it up to a lesson learned and be more timely when it comes to responding to time sensitive mail.
Pay your bill.

The Disney Movie Club (DMC) is committing a serious scam!
They intentionally lure you to join their membership for FREE, and get the first 4 movies at discount. But what they hide from you is that you have to buy their other movies at REGULAR price (over priced, of course) before you can get rid if it.
This is a generous business idea to reach into people’s wallets! I can not believe that Disney, with its reputation, would base its revenue on such a lame business.
Technically, yeah, DMC is doing nothing wrong. It makes up its own rules, and reach out for you. All you need to do is to fall into their trap. However, as many people have been complaining, this is a serious scam that can catch people out of their guard. Who would think that Disney would set up a trap like this?
I have cancelled the credit card I used to join the club. DMC didn’t spell out that they would store my credit card information. If everything about the membership itself stays on the edge of a crime, this definitely falls to the other side. All merchandise would ask for your permission to store your credit card information explicitly. But DMC does NOT!
Well, I think they have great lawyers so they can spell anything legal.
Anyway, this is the DMC. Shame On You!

I also have not recieved my movies. And, they told me two weeks ago I would have them and still nothing. I don't know why Disney would be like this with all the money they have, they should really be dropping their prices on movies and hiring some people who actually know what they are doing and talking about. I am pissed! I will be contacting my bank on Monday since I still have not recieved any of the movies I already paid for. What a rip off!

I WAS a VIP member of Disney Movie Club, but today I got an email stating that I had JUST ordered 12 movies from them. I called them and, it took forever to just talk to a human, they seemingly did everything they could just to get me off the phone! They kept telling me that I should call my bank if I suspected fraud. However, they had already told me that it was a PHONE ORDER! Why would someone call in 12 movies and have them shipped to ME!? Someone there has made the mistake, and I no longer trust them. It was not the first time that I had received a movie I did not order, and YES, I had responded to it online within the time allowed, but they had let it be returned and corrected the charge. But this time! $109.40!? Already charged to my bank account without my approval? Watch out for companies that keep your card number. Cancel them now, and go back to having to use a method of payment EACH time you place an order.

It is your responsibility to respond, but no where in the contract did it say they were aloud to send movies they didn't post online or send on an order form as features. They have done this to me on a number of occasions, but I just return them. I refuse to pay for something that I didn't order. If I forgot to respond that would be a different issue.

Even if you don't receive the feature title card to respond to, its still your responsiblity to respond. They get lots in the mail and thats not something they can control. That is why they have options of phone or online responds.
